Hi guys,
A friend of mine has his power button broken and his Nexus powered off.. So he can't boot it up or everything else. Is there any way I can fix the problem for him? The phone is actually a brick without purpose.
I'm wondering if I can fix it without sending it to Samsung customer care..
Did you pull battery out and then plug charger in? Sometimes that works.

Thank you.. I'll try and I'll let you know..
running cleanrom 3.0, no matter what option i choose in restart menu or shut down, it just does a hot restart
wish i could do a god damn battery pull
[EDIT] This self resolved this time but wtf??
To simulate battery pull hold power button it will blink a few times then turn off. Also disable fast boot in power options.

Yup. Its meant to work all the time, in place of a battery pull.

I had this same problem today.
But the advice given above didn't work for me?
I had to do a factory reset on the phone.
Then the trick to shutting down the phone is to do it BEFORE you set up the phone, immediately after the first bootup.
Just for the fun I decided to brick my phone on purpose. Holding the power button will effectively turn the phone off. Got back into my recovery and reloaded a backup.

Not much of a "brick" if you can just recover from a backup.
Shoot, then i probably brick 4 or 5 times a week

I also experienced this issue yesterday and was able to resolve the issue. Although I am running sick-sense, this might work for you to because I think the issue is kernel related. Try plugging your phone using the charger, and unplug it. see if it resolves your problem. Let us know if this helps so other who might encounter this issue have a fix.
Hey guys I rooted last night using the tool made by Noxious Ninja. Went through the day, fine but now I can't get the S3 to turn on. All I get when I hold the power button is a small vibration and nothing else. Any thoughts?
Thanks!!

Got it! Booted back into download mode, and finally got a boot screen and the homescreen lol. No idea what went wrong. Thanks though! Sorry for the new thread!
So, I thought I knew what I was doing, but apparently not.
I tried flashing XYLON.
Now, the phone gets stuck on the boot animation. I've been trying to get it to work for the last 12 hours. It either gets stuck on the boot animation, or on the "Android is updating" screen. I can't even get into the hboot to boot into recovery.
Can anyone recommend a course of action to bring my phone back to life?

I'm still on 1.09
Its s-off.
I haven't touched my hboot since i rooted my phone.
Hold down power until lights flash 7-10 times. Simulates a battery pull. Then push volume down and press and hold power button for 4-5 seconds, then release power while still holding volume down.. should go to bootloader. Sounds like your not timing it correctly

Well, I'm still trying that. I've done it the way you''ve mentioned it here as well. Trying it again now. I've never had problems getting into my hboot before. :S
Something just seems wrong.
Once I get back home, I'm gonna pull the phone apart and check if something's wrong with my volume button. The Vol. up stopped working, but vol down was working just fine....
Let it boot as far as it will go and see if adb will recognize it. If it does adb reboot bootloader

I've tried that.I kept it for an hour, let it go as far ahead as it would. ADB does not see it.
I agree, if you cant get Into bootloader its a timing issue. Try holding the power buttons until the capacitive buttons blink 7 times or so, when the screen goes black let go of power and press and hold only volume until the bootloader comes up. This way is almost impossible to miss.

Seem like I've been missing the timing all day. :/ I'm gonna check my hardware this evening... lets see what happens after that.
I have heard of a case where someone had to physically disconnect the battery before they could get into bootloader but that's a *****. Since you're s-off you could try RUUing.

RUU doesn't work. I can't get RUU to detect my phone. It doesn't boot up. It's stuck at the boot logo. And even if I leave it connected to ruu while i'm trying to reboot, or trying to get into hboot, it still doesn't detect my phone.
Well... You could let the battery drain and then charge it for about 10 mins then unplug from power and press and hold power and volume.

Right back into the boot screen. I think I'mg onna give up on this now. :/
Sorry man, I'm out of ideas as well. Taking apart the phone and pulling the battery for a bit is the last option.
I encourage you to keep trying the traditional way before taking the phone apart.

Well, I've already pulled my phone apart once to replace my broken screen. Which is why I'm suspecting it could be a hardware problem. Somehow. *sigh*
And I'm in. Finally.
I let the phone's battery drain completely. I pulled apart the phone, and pressed down on the volume + power pins/buttons directly. And I got into the boot loader.
I'm currently restoring the backup of the rooted stock rom I always keep on my phone storage.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions and support.
I just saved myself a whole lot of money. ^_^
I think you can help me maybe but I'm not so experienced

So my situation is similar but my htc inc s is brand new from ebay china seller ( I live in Greece), is s-on, never messed up with, never rooted all factory. It worked great for few days and after the first OTA update I cant get into hboot, adb doesn't see the phone, always the updating symbol on screen.Tried battery pull, volume down + power in all the possible timing and combinations but yet nothing! Also I tried battery pull, volume up + power it vibrates 3 times orange lid is on and black screen (on the forums is said that this is diagnostic menu). So I think maybe this phone is a refurb and not new since the answer from HTC global support (after sending my IMEI and S/N) is that this phone is for Indonesian market and that its warranty expired year ago! Can you help me in some way guys...

Sorry, I am not familiar with your phone. If it is completely stock, you may be able to RUU while int he diagnostic menu or during updating screen. Best to post in the Htc inc s forums.
hi
i tried this method to root my phone ([S3] VilleC Superboot R1 )
HTML:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788974
and i think it bricked my phone...
phone was unlocked and the battery was round 90%
i opened the install.bat and my phone turned off even thought my pc recognized as " my htc " i tried to flash a rom but ruu said that battery is under 30 % ( it took me 20 min to download ) when i tried to power on capacitive buttons are blinking so i took htc charger to charge the phone , after 5 hours i checked and only the red led is on - i thought it is charging , after i while i connected with pc but now it doesnt recognize at all.
i did some searches but no luck until now
what i can try next ?

No Bootloader , recovery or anything ?
I would say run a RUU but you need bootloader for that .
Before opening it I'd say try get it sent to HTC if still under warrenty
Was your bootloader unlocked ?
I sent off my HTC a long time ago it was rooted unlocked bootloader tampered etc... But My carier carried out the repair but under the authorisation off HTC they repaired it and sent it back so I got pretty lucky .
I don't think disconnecting the battery will do anything (sorry Nippo) because the problems software related not hardware realed .but if any hardware has failed they will repair it only under warrenty .
if I helped hit that thanks button it helps me a lot .
