Hey guys I rooted last night using the tool made by Noxious Ninja. Went through the day, fine but now I can't get the S3 to turn on. All I get when I hold the power button is a small vibration and nothing else. Any thoughts?
Thanks!!

Got it! Booted back into download mode, and finally got a boot screen and the homescreen lol. No idea what went wrong. Thanks though! Sorry for the new thread!

I have been running the ICS leak on my sky rocket since it came out, with no real problems making the phone un-useable.
Starting yesterday, my phone would randomly restart and would reboot to the samsung logo. Once it hits the at&t splash screen it will vibrate and reboot all over again until I pull the battery and restart the phone.
Now today the same incident occurred, and pulling the battery is not fixing the issue. When I put the battery in, it will just continue the loop of the samsung logo.
No flashing since I installed ICS months ago, only change would be installing random apps in the play store.
I'm unable to enter recovery, and when I get to the download screen it just reboots after showing a blue screen.
Pretty lost on what else to try with this phone.
Vol+ and vol- and power hold them down
Or vol- plug in usb

Phone will get to the download screen, and the CWM screen then restart before anything can be done.

No dice, even tried a backup battery that was fully charged in a external charger.
Same result

Have you tried forcing DL mode when it's already plugged into a computer? Pull battery, plug usb into computer and phone, hold vol + and -, put battery back in. That might keep you in DL mode. Good luck

Restarts getting into DL mode as well.
Im actually thinking the power button might be stuck internally. Since the button itself does click when i push it

Popped off the frame, but had to run out before actually doing any tinkering.
So screwed it back together before I left, and now the phone works perfectly fine.
*shrug*
Thanks for the assistance guys
Well glad that worked for u

running cleanrom 3.0, no matter what option i choose in restart menu or shut down, it just does a hot restart
wish i could do a god damn battery pull
[EDIT] This self resolved this time but wtf??
To simulate battery pull hold power button it will blink a few times then turn off. Also disable fast boot in power options.

Yup. Its meant to work all the time, in place of a battery pull.

I had this same problem today.
But the advice given above didn't work for me?
I had to do a factory reset on the phone.
Then the trick to shutting down the phone is to do it BEFORE you set up the phone, immediately after the first bootup.
Just for the fun I decided to brick my phone on purpose. Holding the power button will effectively turn the phone off. Got back into my recovery and reloaded a backup.

Not much of a "brick" if you can just recover from a backup.
Shoot, then i probably brick 4 or 5 times a week

I also experienced this issue yesterday and was able to resolve the issue. Although I am running sick-sense, this might work for you to because I think the issue is kernel related. Try plugging your phone using the charger, and unplug it. see if it resolves your problem. Let us know if this helps so other who might encounter this issue have a fix.
I have had my S3 for about two months now and it has been rooted the whole time. The stock ROM finally annoyed me enough to try a new ROM. I installed Rootbox then Pacman, but they both just sat on the boot screen for about 10 minutes before I pulled the battery and gave up. I tried installing MIUI which went well but as soon as I hit the 'restart' button, the screen went blank and now the phone won't turn on. The battery is fine, I tried the known good one out of my wife's S3.
Is there any hope here? Any chance I will be able to get it swapped out at Verizon? Am I just f'ed?
Just for the record because I know it will be asked: I am have installed many ROMs on my old Droid X and I did follow directions for these installs. MIUI even had the wizard. I do have a nandroid but since I cannot turn the phone on at all, I can't get to it. I cannot get to download mode or react when I plug the charger in. I can't even get the thing to vibrate when holding down the power button...as far as I can tell it is COMPLETELY dead.
Thanks for the input.
Pull the battery and try again. If that doesn't work plug it in and see if it charges.

i fried a gsiii and got a replacement frpm big red. just tell them the OTA did it. if it can't turn on they can't check what you've done until it's too late. bring it in asap and have a sob story about how the update destroyed your phone... it worked 2 days after the jelly bean update for me.

No dice on both fronts.

Any response booting into download mode?

Does the screen flash for a second or respond for any amount of time when you try charging it with or without the battery? Our is there no response at all when you're trying to charge it,?

No problem. They will give you a replacement as long as there is no physical damage to the phone... Good luck!!

Did you flash a rom for the i9300 version of the phone and not the i535? I did that and hard bricked my first s3.

Need some help here...been running AOKP unofficial just fine for a while then all of a sudden my phone starts acting crazy and the flash will go off and then start vibrating and try to reboot, then it kinda gets stuck in a mini boot loop. I have to hold down the power button to get it to fully reboot properly. So i thought it might be a bad app. I uninstalled some apps and it kept doing it. So I wiped and installed the latest AOKP unofficial rom. it did it a couple of times even with no apps on the phone. One thing ive also notice is when I push the power button to sleep/lock, It comes right back on to the lockscreen...Thoughts?
Power button, it's in the beginning stages of being totally stuck

My Old Skyrocket I'm letting my son use, is rebooting also. I notice if i barely touch the power button, it wants to go black, or even prompts to reboot. Extremely sensitive. I'll give this a go within the next few days and hopefully this will get him back in business.

Guys my phone was acting up. I tried to boot into recovery, and it wouldn't go. Splash screen came up and had recovery booting in upper left hand, than it just vibrated and kept doing just that. I pulled battery and put it back in and automatically vibrated. Now it just keeps doing that. I just wanted to clear cache and now it's doing this!
Every time I put my battery back in, it wants to automatically boot into recovery. But than just keeps vibrating.
EDIT: it booted into recovery and went back to its cycle. I think it has to do with my screwed up power button. Not sure what to do?!?
I had the same issue.
You can send it in to get fixed, our pull out the power button like I did.
Sucks either way

How do you operate recovery and getting into it? My phone is back up now. I just tried recovery again and had the same loop problem. Not sure if I should try going back to complete stock.
Does the phone have to be less than a year old to take it into Verizon? Its older than a year. Is it worth trying to go into Verizon?

I was able to turn the phone on after taking the power button out by sticking a pin in the hole and pushing down on the button within the hole.
This was also how I diagnosed it was my power button for sure. I could just flick the button in the hole without paying down and the screen would shut off.
I was told this is a hassle to fix because it could be a short on the power cable. I'm just sticking with my phone like this for now

Ohhhh. Yeah, I'm afraid to take my power button off.
I thought it was software at first. I clean flashed BoneStock and it went away. Then when I double pressed the button today it started happening again. I wanted to try flashing CleanRom but I can't even get into recovery.
It's sds sudden death syndrome it's a known issue with the power button. It's defective.

Oh ok thanks. What are the recommendations for dealing with the issue? I know the user above me took his actual button out. Anyway it could be covered? I'm about to go back to grad school and last thing I need is a defective phone.

Take it to store they will repair it, in most cases it's covered.
