[Q] Samsung GSIII rooted but no root permission??? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I recently rooted my Samsung GSIII using the following link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2046439) and when i use my phone, no superuser was installed, and i dont have root access. I know this is a stupid question, i just want a answer please. Thanks!

I'm pretty positive you'll want to odin route 66 for your model. Then download the unlock bootloader app from market if verizon not sure other carrier but then goo manager to flash twrp recovery. After you have completed the odin. Youll be on k3 if verizon already rooted. Then open unlock app. Click unlock. Then open goo and hit menu button on phone for the option to install open script recovery. Bam go backup and enjoy

Could you explaine a little more please and maybe provide some links, thanks

Download the superuser zip ( look in Google) reboot into recovery and flash it
... If you really did root it, then it'll work. If not, read a little more because you did something wrong. Not meaning to sound like a ****, but honestly you should read everything before attempting this. It really is easy. Flash the old bootchain and then If you would've download the rootdebugfs it pretty much does everything automatic. Then unlock your downloader, install a recovery and voila..

I am in the process of rooting my phone. I have flashed the vralec bootchain and installed the custom recovery. I chose CWM Touchwiz. The issue I am having is the recovery claims there is no .zip file with the superuser and unlocked bootloader. I have tried moving the file around on the sdcard to no avail. I also dled the filed directly to my phone from the guide. What should I try now?

I had the same problem when I tried this originally so I went with TWRP and then my problem was solved. It takes a little while to track down the zip as it could be in a /sdcard/0/ or /storage/extSdCard/0/ directory folder, but you should be fine if you look in those. Hope this helps!:good:

Download "Root Checker" from the Play Store. It will show you whether or not you are rooted.
I may be mistaken but if you have Super User or Super SU installed you've achieved root. At least, that's what I looked for to make sure the root took.

You can always open up a terminal emulator and type su. If the $ turns into a # and or superuser pops up and asks for permissions, then that means you're rooted.

[Q] i have a serious issue. bricked?

i recently flashed the stock rom for my phone, which didn't work too well for some reason. SO i went an flashed domination ics.
through futzing around in terminal emulator, i've removed all apps in data/app, and i can't get into recovery to flash a different rom.
i've used superoneclick and done everything, it flashes a recovery, but after holding the buttons until the lg image turns blue.. it just locks.
the soft button lights eventually fade, and touching it turns them back on, but does nothing otherwise.
is this bricked? if so, can someone tell me how to fix it?
Use nvflash to push stock. Search development section. Alternatively you can use the cleanup batch and then flash a ROM.

crisis averted. I managed to get the phone to take a backup of the original software someone uploaded ,the v21y one.
It's now getting a copy of all my backed up apps so the person i'm giving it to can install what they want to play with.
secondary question, though.
Is there a way to get root rights, without flashing a whole rom? I'd rather leave it on the stock rom, and just have root for apps that need it (like titanium backup)
Yes you can root the phone without installing a rooted ROM. Install CWM via NvFlash and then flash the root.zip file. Give me a second and ill find you the link to NvFlash and the root.zip file

[Q] I535 Verizon Lockout Message - Unlock Bootloader

Hi,
So I've been searching forums for around 7 hours now trying to get CyanogenMod on my phone. I am able to Root via Odin using VRALEC and VRBMB1 Bootchain.
I downloaded CM (from website) and gapps and have booted into recovery using Rom Manager. I also tried EZ Recovery, but I couldnt get the recovery img to work so I used Rom Manager.
After reading a lot of forums (hours and hours), I still get the Verizon lockout message. I am able to get back into my phone my loading up the stock, but I would really like to be able to use CM as it is awesome and I dislike Touchwiz.I am able to Root the phone, so I can unlock the bootloader, but it doesnt seem to stick. So my process has been to use the VRALEC in Odin again and then boot to recovery. This was an instruction I received in a few results from my research.
My issue is how to for sure unlock the bootloader. There used to be an application called EZ Unlocker but it looks like it's been removed and I cant find an APK that will download.
I know how much you guys hate when someone posts without doing their research, but I am at my wit's end and am in need of some help.
Pertinent information:
Device: I535
CM download: http://get.cm/?device=d2vzw&type=stable
Gapps download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2378992
Odin3 v1.85
System: 4.1.1
I followed this guide for unlocking the bootloader because most others did not have files: http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2013/04/how-to-lockunlock-bootloader-for.html
Process: Followed this video after I did the above unlock for bootloader.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNoSG5GYpZk
There must be a pretty obvious step I'm missing here. Feel free to berate me if you like, but really just a n00b in need of some help.
Many Thanks

Hi,
Thank you for your post I was able to root with this method. I cannot, however, find instruction on how to do steps 2 and 3. Do I use Rom Manager again to reboot to recovery?
The link shows:
5. flash the insecure bootloader (this unlocks the bootloader)
6. flash custom recovery of your choice (twrp, cwm, cwm touch all included)
But that is all the information. What is the insecure bootloader? is that something I download and then use through Odin?
Again, I'm sorry I'm so incompetent, I've been at this for hours and just want to start enjoying my phone on CM.
Thank you

Actually I soft-bricked my phone yesterday, and since I was brand-new I didn't backup anything. And after a hellish ride unbricking my phone I got it to work, but I went back an update. Before I was at 4.1.2 and it went back to 4.0.4

You never unlocked your bootloader.
Well I'm not entirely sure where you went wrong there, did you Odin back to 4.0.4 or was that just an old backup?
That unauthorized software has been detected happened to me before when I took an ota unknowingly and didn't realize it locked my bootloader.
Going back to 4.0.4 was my fault, when looking for a solution to unbrick my phone I found a webpage that explained how and gave me files to download. And the file for the default rom was 4.0.4. I will try again after unlocking my bootloader again.
What did you use to get back to 4.0.4?
I unlocked my bootloader, went to cwm and tried to install a custom rom and got "E:Error in /sdcard/cm- 11 -20131211 - NIGHTLY -d2vzw.zip. (Status 7) Installation aborted".
Is that what it's showing now?

Yes, at first I forgot to wipe data/cache but even after I did that the same thing still comes up. Halp. Should I use Rom Manager? That's the progrom I used originally when I would get the System Software error, and now I get this error when going into CWM manually.

Older recoveries don't work with kit Kat (4.4) roms.
If you are using CWM make sure its 6.0.4.3
Where could I find a newer version? Sorry I'm scrub-cakes.
Can flash it with ROM manager

Personally I prefer to use the app called flashify and install recovery image.

TWRP 2.8 VZW HTC One M8

I unlocked using Sunshine then followed the steps from TWRP 2.8. I installed GooManager_2.1.3.apk
<Install the app and open it. Tap menu then hit Install OpenRecoveryScript. Tap Yes. Verify that the filename displays your device's code name and hit Yes. The file will download and your device will reboot and install the recovery automatically.>
When I open GooManager I get a pop up window that says:
<h1>Not Found</h1><p>The requested URL /message was not found on this server.</p>
When I go to menu and "Install OpenRecoveryScript" I get a message saying it was unable to find a recovery for my device. I found this info under HTC One M8 2014 Verizon page so it has to be for my device.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure I didn't use that sunshine method when I did mine there is a manual method that was free I used back then. I thought you had to install towel root first before you could use sunshine correct? If you installed towelroot and you are rooted you may have to download super user from the market so that way you can run Flashify and run your recovery image. When you run flashify does it ask you to grant root where you can push ok?

Just get a copy of fastboot for the MAC, there are copies floating around the web. Or you can just download the Android SDK, it will have adb and fastboot and they are both free. Then just open a terminal in mac. Browse to where the fastboot file is, copy the TWRP .img file to the same folder, and run ./fastboot flash recovery nameOfRecoveryFile (where nameOfRecoveryFile is the name of the .img TWRP file you downloaded). That will flash the device directly.

To get root after using Sunhine you need to flash SuperSU in recovery. So you have to get the recovery on your phone first and the only way is in fastboot.
Once you have fastboot set up there is no easier and safer way to flash recoveries and it gives you many options for trouble shooting to boot.
Invest some time to get fastboot working on your Mac. You'll thank yourself later if and when you run into some trouble. To have a working fastboot connection to your Android device is absolutely essential if you start flashing custom software IMHO.
GooManager is no longer supported for flashing TWRP and be careful with Flashify, TWRP manager and similar apps. People have managed to flash stuff to the wrong partition using apps like that. And that will not happen in fastboot....
