OK so my wife just picked up the maxx HD yesterday and is adamant on using handcent. But I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the LED to blink. I set the LED up in the handcent app settings, I also have light flow installed and set the SMS/MMS apps to blink. Set handcent as the default messaging app in the handcent settings. Nothing is working fit me.
I have the pro version of lightflow but didn't see hand cent on the list of supported apps so I don't know if I want to mess with installing my account so she can use the pro app.
Just wondering if anyone was able to do this? She is on 4.1.1.
Also, can I set the lock screen shortcuts on this phone? Or at least get handcent to open when choosing the text messaging lockscreen shortcut?
Sorry, I am a Gnex owner so this moto interface is a little different. I am so jealous of the battery life though

Light Flow may be giving you the issue.
Try removing it.
Thanks I will be giving this a try tonight and will report back

Does the application HANDCENT SMS drains my battery even more? Thank you
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I have used handcent a long time now and it does not drain the battery for me. It must be the best sms app.
I have used it for several months also and my conclusion is no.
Yes I would like to confirm also, Im using handcent from day1 no problem so far like this.
I suggest if you have issues. uninstall the application and all the font packages and install fresh.
dont import from backup applications.

+1 for this. I have been using Handcent for about 6 months now and it is easily the best SMS app out there. It doen't drain battery at all for me.

If you find that it is using some battery, there is a couple of things.
If you have the Pop Up notification to turn the screen on, this can really wear battery down if you get a lot of messages. There is a known problem with Handcent and the screen on pop up feature. Unfortunately the pop up can bypass the phone lock. If it is in your pocket and you get a message, the screen turns on and if the screen is facing towards your leg, it can push buttons and stuff, keeping the screen on, opening apps, on and even pocket dialing.
I have experienced this a few times. However, normally Handcent is the last item on my battery usage list. It's very good.
So I've been running noLED on my Nexus S for a while now and just decided to add the app SMS Popup. The problem is that when my phone is sleeping and I get a text I no longer get the notification icon from noLED only, I also get the message pop up and the buttons on it (reply and close) stay active.
I wish that when my phone was sleeping and I got a text I only got the "notification light" from noLED and once I unlocked the screen I'd see the SMS pop up. Does anyone know of a way to reach that? Maybe another app would behave accordingly? Thanks
Under the miscellaneous setting in noled check the option to delay SMS notifications. Works great for me.
That said the pop-up won't be there when the phone is unlocked. Just for the I initial screen on.

Thanks for the tip but that doesn't really help me achieve what I want.
Maybe I could try another SMS program? (Handcent, etc) Opinions/experiences would be great.
I don't think the app matters. The way I understand it is noled will "dismiss " any popup occupying the screen in order to work.
Let me know if you find something though as its an option I'd love to have myself.

Tried Handcent, Chomp, tried even using Widget Locker and it was a no go.

Perhaps you can check out the app's thread for more info and help.
Yep been there and talked with the dev. Doesn't seem possible.

theres an app for that
Do you know what its called I tried the Wimax already didn't work
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I'd like to know also.
Wimax Notifier is the only app I know of that allows this and it can be hit or miss on some roms and even work on the same rom for one person but not another, which may just be setting related I had trouble with it after disabling led notifications I never use the leds anymore anyways tbh

i use an app called lightflow lite (theres a paid version)...its a bit complicated in the sense that it gives you total control over your leds once you given accessibility in your setting and hit direct mode(i think) in the app itself...after you give it the proper access to your phone you get control over both lights and when and how they blink for any kind of situation...you need to turn off any led notification from other apps that use the lights...in a nut shell you can use this app to control the blinking, color, and speed of the lights...you can also set it up for specific contacts...hope this helps

That app doesnt work on most roms i have tried it on. if anyone knows how to get it working keep us posted
I got it to work with the Wimax notification app I use go sms so i checked the box to disable all other messaging services and at first it wasn't working I had to go in and uncheck the box for disable other messaging apps and it now works hope this helps...

easiest way is to just stick with AOSP roms!
I got this version to work with MikG 3.0

Hey, guys! This is my first post on XDA, though I've been lurking around for a while.
I'd like your help with something. From what I've gathered on the forums, the built in backlight notification won't work with the stock MMS app because upon receiving a message it forces the screen to turn on, which uses up the one screen turn-on cycle the BLN will be active for.
Is there a way to set the BLN to stay on for multiple screen cycles? Or, alternatively, can I set the MMS app to not force the screen on? Preferably I'd like both of these things, since it's how my old phone was set up.
I'm running DJ-ICS Plus 2.0, if that helps at all.
Thanks in advance, and thanks for having me
If you buy BLN Control Pro from the market, it should let you set up the notifications the way you want.
You have to use different messaging app for BLN to work. Can't use stock messaging app. There is no way around it that I know off.

Some roms offer it, maybe just the t989 ones I cant remember which ones offer that support.
Download SMS popup. Set that up, disable notification in your stock messaging app. SMS pop up is not a stand alone app. It works with your msg app. That's how you can bypass the screen from coming on. There are a couple threads that go more into detail.

Has anyone got the LED notification light to work?
I can confirm mine works when using 3rd party apps, but shouldn't it come on when screen is locked and a new sms is received? Maybe there is a setting I am missing somewhere?
Mine was blinking this morning for emails. Its very bright.

download the app Light Flow
I wasn't getting any LED notifications at all, I also tried Light Flow lite and it didn't work. The paid version however works for me, but you have to enable the "Pulse notification light" setting in the Android Display settings menu.
edit. Actually not sure if the notifications are actually triggering the LED yet. The test inside Flight Flow worked with the different colours though.
edit2. OK, yep all seems to be working fine for me.
Its in the settings
Settings>Display>Pulse Notification Light
I'm also using Light Flow but for some reason it ignores my settings like "LED always on".
It just keeps blinking
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
If you are using Lightflow make sure you also turn on the notification listener for it.
Yeah, LIghtFlow looks promising.
I did notice at one point it kept flashing the LED even after i had cleared the notification though. However I read somewhere on here a message by the developer of the app, who said he is busy working on a new version for the nexus 5 which may even be out this week.
Think it included additional fixes LED staying on constantly and better support for the Hangouts app. Looks good.

Where did you read this? What is his username? Sounds good!
With the LED option enabled in the default settings, I was able to get a notification pulse for getting an email in my gmail primary folder. It takes about 10 seconds in between pulses.
I just received my replacement phone after the first one has speaker issues and now the LED will not work at all on this way.
I've tried light flow etc with the same settings that worked on the old phone and nothing. Thinking of just getting a refund now...
Someone please tell me: Will the LED notification work WITHOUT a third party app installed?
I too can not see any lit notifications at all. Settings are correct, "pulse notification" on, nothing... no notifications on text, email, missed call, nothing.
If an outside app is needed for the light to work, that is the most absurd thing ever...
lite flow is still VERY buggy on the N5 despite his latest update saying "N5 support"
only works sometimes for email and almost never for hangouts. Plus you cant have a different color for MMS in hangouts.
Even with "run in foreground" enabled it still doesn't work reliably
What kind of colors are guys seeing? I'm using Light Flow Lite for now and when I do the all enabled LED Test, it cycles through:
orange
teal
red
green
blue
and then back to orange.
I thought I saw others getting other colors like yellow, purple, and white to name a few. Is it because I have the free version and/or maybe issues with 4.4?
Only works for me when I have an unread message on whatsapp.
Hangouts and emails and also missed calls don't switch the led light on my nexus 5 which I do find so strange

Mine only work now with using light flow. Don't get why. But at least it works.

Stock LED settings are horrible, however, I installed lightflow and noticed a SMS message sent to a 4 digit # right after (light flow was the only app with access to those permissions and the text was sent at the time it was installed). No thanks.

It does work though you need to check if it's activated in
Settings > Display > LED thingy (don't have english settings).
Lightflow does give you more control. Also it seems the N5 can't have the LED always on, only blinking mode

Thanks yes I did have the settings checked properly. Light did not work. Installed Light Flow, made sure everything was set right, still did not work even on test mode. Oh well guess it's defective. I've had enough annoyances with this device, it's going back...
