Hey, guys! This is my first post on XDA, though I've been lurking around for a while.
I'd like your help with something. From what I've gathered on the forums, the built in backlight notification won't work with the stock MMS app because upon receiving a message it forces the screen to turn on, which uses up the one screen turn-on cycle the BLN will be active for.
Is there a way to set the BLN to stay on for multiple screen cycles? Or, alternatively, can I set the MMS app to not force the screen on? Preferably I'd like both of these things, since it's how my old phone was set up.
I'm running DJ-ICS Plus 2.0, if that helps at all.
Thanks in advance, and thanks for having me
If you buy BLN Control Pro from the market, it should let you set up the notifications the way you want.
You have to use different messaging app for BLN to work. Can't use stock messaging app. There is no way around it that I know off.

Some roms offer it, maybe just the t989 ones I cant remember which ones offer that support.
Download SMS popup. Set that up, disable notification in your stock messaging app. SMS pop up is not a stand alone app. It works with your msg app. That's how you can bypass the screen from coming on. There are a couple threads that go more into detail.

So I've been running noLED on my Nexus S for a while now and just decided to add the app SMS Popup. The problem is that when my phone is sleeping and I get a text I no longer get the notification icon from noLED only, I also get the message pop up and the buttons on it (reply and close) stay active.
I wish that when my phone was sleeping and I got a text I only got the "notification light" from noLED and once I unlocked the screen I'd see the SMS pop up. Does anyone know of a way to reach that? Maybe another app would behave accordingly? Thanks
Under the miscellaneous setting in noled check the option to delay SMS notifications. Works great for me.
That said the pop-up won't be there when the phone is unlocked. Just for the I initial screen on.

Thanks for the tip but that doesn't really help me achieve what I want.
Maybe I could try another SMS program? (Handcent, etc) Opinions/experiences would be great.
I don't think the app matters. The way I understand it is noled will "dismiss " any popup occupying the screen in order to work.
Let me know if you find something though as its an option I'd love to have myself.

Tried Handcent, Chomp, tried even using Widget Locker and it was a no go.

Perhaps you can check out the app's thread for more info and help.
Yep been there and talked with the dev. Doesn't seem possible.

Hi,
Is there an app (working with the Sensation) that can make the LED notification light flash continually until you actually open the new message or am I stuck having to bring the phone out of sleep incessantly to check if anything new has come in?
Surely such an app would just eat battery up for no reason.

I've been having a look at this myself,
(i am a noob when it comes to devolping apps)
but i was one first to get desire and there
was a command that you can run (without root)
to get the led to flash different colours length etc..
Tried this on the sensation and just get a file cannot be found.
(if you want to now the command then pm me or
il post it up not that it be much help)
so basically this means all existing apps with run on this old
command, so a new one will be needed when somebody figures
out the file name for the sensation led - then you can
just push a number to it using the echo command and itl work.
put into a java script and your done
wait so the notification light only lasts for 5 minutes? wtf?

What?? Is this true???
You know, I never noticed that since it's my second line. Interesting. Maybe part the reason the standby time is so good on this phone. (really reaching)
I did leave my phone alone for a few hours and no flashing led for my peep mentions.

any update on this?
I just got the phone and the lack of a notification sound or light is a big negative for me.
I would love to see the app NoLED work for the Sen4G which would be a perfect fix for this issue
The HTC Sensation does have notification by sound, LED and Vibration, look closer at your settings check out the settings in HTC Hub

The problem I'm having with NoLED is that I also use Handcent SMS and when you clear the NoLED notification screen it also closes the sms popup window. It's kind of annoying. A fix around that issue is the problem I'm having.
Just installed SMS Popup & it seems to have an option to repeat your reminder & can set an interval. It even turns on the screen which I missed!!!
Testing now.

Edit: yep, works perfectly. Only downside is you lose the awesome lockscreen feature of showing the envelope & text

That's only for SMS, which I literally never use. (I use Google Voice for 100% of my texting.)

Haha yes! And I've successfully converted a few others as well. I mainly use it because I can text via my work PC or my home PC. Texting with a full keyboard = a thousand times better
Plus saving on text messaging costs, and ease of porting number over yadda yadda
Anyway, I've been testing out NoLED today and it's a nice app but I don't like that it turns the entire screen on. Massive battery loss there.
Is there a better way?
from what I've read NoLED was made with an AMOLED screen in mind where black doesn't drain the battery because those LEDs are actually off
I've been using NoLED with Handcent. There is an option in NoLED that is Handcent specific that seems to keep the sms popup under the NoLED notification. Just unlock NoLED with the volume rocker and the popup window will remain open. Only downside is when the phone is on vibrate you will be constantly taking the phone out of vibrate mode to unlock NoLED to view sms popups. At that point you'd have to use the home or back key to unluck NoLED but it will dismiss the sms popup. So NoLED is ALMOST a nice fix. Gonna use it for now until something better comes along.

After going through all the app's options and menus extensively, I now have it set to disable the screen via the proximity sensor (ie if in my pocket etc).
Now I'm trying to use the Blink feature so if my phone is on a table or somewhere exposed, the screen isn't 100% on. Rather, it turns off/on periodically.
However, it seems the Blink feature doesn't work on the Sensation? When I get a notification, the screen never turns on.
If I disable blink, it works again right away (but then the screen is on 100% of the time when not in my pocket).
Anyone else experienced this?
Why do I not see one thread discussing notifications? Given we don't have kernel source, BLN is not possible, but seems it would be useless anyway considering how dim the blacklights are. Also, it appears NoLED does not support the charge yet. What's everyone doing for notifications on this thing?!?!
Noled works just fine on the charge

Hmmmm wtf, I've got widget on and tried reboot, still nothing...Will dig further...Looks like this is all we will ever have though for notifs tho
Just a couple of tips; Download Handcent SMS(not sure if you can do this with stock) and change the settings to turn the screen on when you receive an SMS. If that still doesn't get your attention just set it so you receive an update every 1-15 mins if you don't check the unread messages.
I spent 2 years without a notification LED and didn't see a point to it. Loud notification alert + screen on works fine for me.

I prefer GoSMS over Handcent, way more efficient, cleaner, more features...screen does turn on when I recieve it, but if I'm out and phone is in my pocket and can't hear/feel it, I used to just take a quick glance to see if BLN was on...Rather dissapointed they didn't put an LED in here...Will look into the update thing though, thanks
NoLED works great on my charge. There is a setting for delaying it for popup txts and I have that on. You do have to be using the Glass or Puzzle lock screen for it to work, if you're on a custom rom.

anyone know if there is a way to get GO SMS Pro and No LED to work together. Right now I basically have them both GO and stock messaging running cuz its the only way ill get the NO Led notification. If not, maybe someone knows how to get free texts? lol. The only reason Im really using GO is for the GO Chat cuz I dont have unlimited text (only unlimited to vzw) and I went over my limit cuz of damn sprint and att friends lol.
I honestly don't think unlimited text is that much compared to a limited amount...

it'd be another $10/mo which doesnt sound like much but im already spending $75 and im one broke son of a ***** lol
Plus my gf who is im on a family plan with refuses to pay more because I text way more than she does.

You might want to try this: Go to NOLED Setting/Toggle Notification/Monitored Apps, and select your preferred SMS app. It works with Google Voice for me.
It will require you to enable Accessibility Services for NOLED. Go to Settings/Accessibility/Accessibility Services, and place check marks on Accessibility and NoLED.
I cannot make these two apps work together.
With nothing set in the apps configurations, no led appears when the display is off.
I tried to check the Go SMS Pro mark on noLED monitored Apps, it just makes the display to stay on for an indefinite time.
So I tried to check the notifications delay mark on noLED, but this makes no effect and the display remains off with no leds on it..
I have the same problem. I checked in accessibility the noled and i checked in monitor program go sms but nothing...
Fixed. i cant use a link here but read this:
Q: NoLED no longer works with GoSMS for SMS messages, any help or workarounds ?
A: The problem is in the new feature that GoSMS added: the ability to turn off notifications for all other SMS apps. If you leave that box checked it also disables it for NoLED, uncheck that checkbox to make it work again.
I switched to handcent, basically the same as gosms, but has no issues with no led

Thanks to fousekis21, now it seems to work!
I've unchecked the box for the other SMS apps notifications and setted the delay on noLED (not setted any monitored app).
Now the notification incons appear with a delay of about 1 second, but finally they appear!!
What are backlightnotifications? What do they do? And why do we need them? I notice they are in the updated kernal.
Read the app description for the app FB states is needed and I'm sure you will figure it out.
So instead of my phone screen lighting up when i recieve a notification my back light at the bottom of my phone will light up. Am i right? OH OK I GET IT NEAT!!
Yes. If you get a text or whatever - your softkets will illuminate and stay on as a notification.
Hmm, i flashed the new kernel but bln still doesnt work. Any suggestions?

Did you download the app? Did you enable it within the app? Did you flash the kernel through CWM as FB said? Lastly, did you receive a text to test it?
Yes, flashed through cwm. I had an old version of the app, i updated it now but still no luck. And i didnt receive a message, what should i be getting? App is enabled, ofcourse.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
You receive a text to see the BLN. It illuminates your softkeys to notify you of a text.
Or there you can push test notification within the app.
Haha, ofcourse, i know. I thought you meant i had to receive a test message upon installation. No, i already received texts and it isnt working. The test in the app foesnt do the trick either. Bummer, i really enjoyed this on froyo and didva happy dance when i saw it should be working with this new kernel.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
The test in the BLN app will take a few seconds to kick in. Tap on the test text then turn off your screen right after and you'll get the softkeys lighting up.
I've tested this so far with Trillian (works perfectly, the screen doesn't turn on when I get an IM and the softkeys do). GoSMS doesn't work though. Older versions of GoSMS used to work for me on Froyo with the Bali kernel though.
Note that the app you're trying to test this on has to support BLN!!! I think handcent might. You should go through the market and read the description for different texting apps to be sure though.
GoSMS Pro does support BLN. You have to enable LED notifications in settings --> default notification settings for it to work. I have tested and am using with no problems on GoSMS Pro.
I also disabled 'screen on'.

Aha, this was it. I enabled screen on but this is a much better solution . It doesn't work when you have screen on + led notifications enabled at the same time.
Aweeome! Glad you have it working.
Ok, the test works indeed, didnt realise it takws about 5 seconds to kick in. Im using handcent and it doesnt work there, ill have a look at the handcent settings next.

The Bali kernel used a different implementation of BLN. I may end up porting that implementation at some point to see if it helps compatibility.
Well i dont see anything wrong with my settings in handcent, so i dont know why its not working there...

oh I see the built in text messenger or call doesn't support BLN, only some apps.
Not sure about stock. Have not tried it.

There is only one kernel for GB with BLN. Go to FB's kernel thread.
