[Q] Sensation XE firmware updates - HTC Sensation

Hello;
I am planning to buy htc sensation xe which was released in oct 2011. My question is until when the phone will continue to have firmware updates and bug fixes?, anyone knows when it will be discontinued by htc?, what happens if a phone stopped receiving updates, will it still be usable?
Sorry for this but I am updating from nokia 6800.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards.

Hi,
HTC are very slow with their updates for the Sensation.
This is a very sore point, considering that this was once a flagship phone.
Having said that, the unofficial route taken by our very clever Devs, means we have the latest ROMS available (namely Android 4.2.2)
It works well so as long as there are Devs willing to give up their time for us,we will keep up ...

Official ICS for ChaCha is it real ?

Hey everyone,
Some one found out that on htcdev ICS kernel sources are available for download.
HTC support reply on that:
Dear User,
This upgrade is released for developers, if you will download it, unfortunately, downgrade will not be possible

HTC ChaCha will NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER get an official ICS update. As stated here: http://www.htc.com/www/help/android4faq/?cid=android4blog
"What devices will not get Android 4.0?
We work hard to ensure each of our products has the optimal user experience and therefore some products will remain at their current version of Android. In general, devices with 512MB ROM or less will not be upgraded to Android 4.0. These devices include the HTC ChaCha, HTC Salsa, HTC Wildfire S, HTC Explorer, HTC Desire HD and others."
Also, the kernels provided on the htcdev site are GB (2.3.5) kernels. Do a compare between the 2.3.5 India and 4.0 India and you will see only 3 gpio files modified; the rest is the same - it's really, really hard to believe that the same kernels can be used for ICS without any additions/fixes/workaround that could actually improve the user experience.
Therefore, I've stopped believing in anything that HTC reps say.
1. Alex C. didn't trust them with the Unlocker, yet, they released the Unroot it for the chacha!
2. The device is limited, but why the kernel for developers!? (cm9??)

Alex is right, the guy who was replying to me sounded confused about it anyway or he was just in a rush. One point he thought I was talking about a Desire HD update when I didin't mention the device. Also he thought people could just install the ICS update from the Kernel source. And even if it was they aren't pushing it Over The Air....
"This update will not be pushed out over the air (OTA). This update will only be available on the dev website, it will be up to the user to whether they want to install the update. The reasons for this is because of the low memory and poor functionality it can cause."

1. There was no reason for me to believe that they wouldn't unlock the bootloader. They stated they will, yet they didn't say when. What I knew they wouldn't do is S-OFF the devices.
2. The kernel is for developers because you need the android sources from google and compile/build ICS on your own. Nevertheless, the sources they say are 4.0 are actually 2.3.5 sources; beyond compare clearly says only 3 gpio files have been modified. I have contacted HTC Support, told them I did a compare between the two kernels and I asked a tech guy to provide me with information about this.
This is their first response:
"Dear Alex C.,
Thank you for contacting HTC.
With regards to your inquiry, kindly be informed that we don't have access to all the details that our engineers have operate over the kernel sources. but i will escalate this question to our engineers from Taiwan."
I think there must be a developer version of ICS for ChaCha but it lacks much stuff as it was with HTC Desire.
Regarding this(From wikipedia):
HTC has released a software update to upgrade the Desire to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Originally, they planned to do this in June 2011.[28][29] On 14 June 2011, HTC announced via Facebook that there would be no Gingerbread update for the HTC Desire, citing memory constraints. This is because HTC had been unable to fit both Gingerbread and HTC Sense together in the phone's 250 MB system partition.[30] However, on 15 June, they released a statement saying the Desire would receive the Gingerbread update, with the possibility of some apps being cut.[31] The update was finally released for download from HTC's developer website[32] on 1 August 2011, and is not available as an over-the-air update.

ChaCha is not popular as Desire was in time, thats why we will never receive that update.
But if some one could get that developer release i think it will bring more opportunity for developing CM9 for example.
ok then,
Straight, Alex C. do you have any contacts within the CM team? they said there will be support for the Chacha, at least a cm7 version.

The support for the CM7 will be provided by adlx.xda which ported it. The CM team itself will not touch the ChaCha build (mostly). If you check the CM site, you'll see each maintainer - in our case adlx.xda.

HTC One S updates

So recently i bought an HTC One S with an S3 processor which its country is of Asia. I am currently at europe. I still am on Android 4.0.3 and there doesnt seem to be an update for my phone. Now i know that 4.0.4 and also JB are rolling out, but not for my device. Is there anything I can do to solve this ?
Thanks
I live in a country where HTC sell the S3 processor only. I had my cousin sent me HOS from US, big difference.
You might want to trade for an S4 though.
In the meantime you can search the development forum and look for an S3 ROM.
Not many but there are some.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app

HOS stands for Htc One S and a Rom is basically an operating system for your device that is nothing like stock, has tweaks here and there things that stock doesnt, and if you root you will.still be able to receive updates but you have to relock the phone and some other things I can't remember then you can apply the update, basically you can't apply update to a rooted phone its just gonna give you and installation error then reboot your phone I think but that's basically it for your questions, hopefully it was helpful to you
T-Mobile HTC one s
Htc one S
Thanks for the information !
A friend told me that if i root the phone i can change my firmware from Asia to Europe where i live so that i can recieve updates accordingly to my phone. Is this true ?
Also is there a detailed noob instructions for me to follow and learn more about rooting the phone and installing customs ROMS etc. ?
Thanks

If you root, you can manually install all sorts of fun stuff. I think if you want to remain as close to stock and receive "official" updates, super cid is something you might wanna read about. There's a thread in the Dev Section by Torxx that I used to root my S4 you might wanna look over and see if that's for you. Make sure everything you decide to do is compatible with your S3 first though.
Edit: there's also another guide in the general section

The only ROM I know if is a European one that you'll find in the dev section which as you rightly pointed out, is no good for our devices. I have not seen any news yet on a stock USA ROM. I think many of us here with ATT, Bell, Rogers, etc would like to get our hands on it but it just does not exist as of now. Considering how popular the 8X is supposed to be, it's surprising but unfortunately the reality.
Keep your fingers crossed. Maybe something soon...
I want to join this request. I have c625b (TELSTRA, Australia, pm233...).

There are some unbranded Asian ROMS that have leaked as well. Perhaps those will work better? They are over on the Dark Forces Team forums.
can i flash my at&t 8x with europe rom? or it brick the phone or just the lte stop working?
+1 for this - have a verizon one which I'm using on t-mobile
+1. At&t Engineering unit here. Would like to go back to stock
I would love the stock TMOUS Rom v1532.20.20010.531 or later! This ROM enables Wi-Fi Calling for us T-mobile customers!
Anyone here could help us?
I Have an HTC 8X, Model C625a. I want to know if is posible to flash it, beocuse i am thinking about release it, so i can install applications that are not from the windows online store. I could try by the Microsoft way (Registering it as a Developer/Development Phone using a Windows Live ID) or by the other way, using an application to Jail Break it.
If is the case, and the Jailbreaker Application breakes the Windows Phone System, i want to know what posibilities do i have of repair it. Could I do a hard reset to the phone to restore the original system? or Do i Have an other way to install applications.
The Carrier is Rogers Canada, but is unlocked working with Cubacel
Sorry if the message has some spell errors, I am cuban and I am learning english now
AT&T 8X, looking for HTC stock rom
Hello,
I'm also looking to unbrand my ATT HTX 8X, the model is PM23300. I couldn't find any rom for it. I'm using the phone in Canada, so i need a north american rom.
Thank you for helping!
Dear friends. I believe there's a lot of people having STUCK IN GEARS problems with their phones. Is it possible for a good soul to dump the stock rom so we can play with and try to fix our phones???

[Q] the right rom for my device?

Hi all,
Was wondering if anyone can give me some advice!
I desperately need 4.3 jelly bean on my htc one sv, as I need to use the low energy bluetooth.
Currently with the help of the forum ive managed to unlock my phone through the dev centre, ive flashed the recovery with twrp and installed superSu. But I have not seen any posts regarding 4.3 jelly bean in the htc one sv threads.
My question is would the 4.3 jb for the htc one work on the htc one sv - if yes what should i look for to know the right file
Or is there any other way for me to get the low energy bluetooth runnin on my phone
heres my phone deets
k2-ul pvt ship s-on rl
hboot-2.21 000
os-3.11.61.10
jb 4.2.2
Much thanks in advance if anyone can give me any assistance
@devinell
There is currently no 4.3 Rom available for the HTC One SV. As for using the one from HTC One, no, not directly as their specs are much different from ours. You would need to port it, as well as work on the kernel.
However, as it stands right now, 4.4 with Sense 5.5 is due for arrival sometime between March and April.

Assuming one has the experience and expertise or even the will to learn, porting is possible. But its all trial and errors along the way as you go about debugging any possible issues so that whatever is actually being ported gets resolved and works properly. Requires knowledge, patience, and free time.

When ive finished Uni its something I will indeed get into as time is a factor, but for now I think my only escape plan is to put kit kat on my old htc desire and use that for development instead -
Thanks for all you advice amigo
