So recently i bought an HTC One S with an S3 processor which its country is of Asia. I am currently at europe. I still am on Android 4.0.3 and there doesnt seem to be an update for my phone. Now i know that 4.0.4 and also JB are rolling out, but not for my device. Is there anything I can do to solve this ?
Thanks
I live in a country where HTC sell the S3 processor only. I had my cousin sent me HOS from US, big difference.
You might want to trade for an S4 though.
In the meantime you can search the development forum and look for an S3 ROM.
Not many but there are some.

HOS stands for Htc One S and a Rom is basically an operating system for your device that is nothing like stock, has tweaks here and there things that stock doesnt, and if you root you will.still be able to receive updates but you have to relock the phone and some other things I can't remember then you can apply the update, basically you can't apply update to a rooted phone its just gonna give you and installation error then reboot your phone I think but that's basically it for your questions, hopefully it was helpful to you

Thanks for the information !
A friend told me that if i root the phone i can change my firmware from Asia to Europe where i live so that i can recieve updates accordingly to my phone. Is this true ?
Also is there a detailed noob instructions for me to follow and learn more about rooting the phone and installing customs ROMS etc. ?
Thanks

If you root, you can manually install all sorts of fun stuff. I think if you want to remain as close to stock and receive "official" updates, super cid is something you might wanna read about. There's a thread in the Dev Section by Torxx that I used to root my S4 you might wanna look over and see if that's for you. Make sure everything you decide to do is compatible with your S3 first though.
Edit: there's also another guide in the general section

I start this thread because this question has bother me for a month, since i had the Titan.
We all know that next gen windows Phone will use the NAND Flash Memory. So the first thing i know, there is no Gold Card anymore.
I used to use the Gold Card Technique to install the EU Official Windows Mobile ROM for the Asia HD2, so i am kinda familar with it.
So now i have the HTC Titan from UK , and i am not really pleased with the British Accent on it. So i am looking for the answer if i can install the Official ROM of AT&T version for it, and most important thing: be able to receive the official update for it.
Since it is NAND Flash Memory, and bootloader will cancel the install from the start, i am looking for anyone who have the answer.
And there are many custom ROM out there, but my main concern will it be able to receive the update?
Thanks.
PS: my bad i mean Region, not "religion".

Maybe no one here tried it yet. But if I were you, I wouldnt mess my ROM. About custom ROM, that depends. I remember one of DFT that was able to receive update. Dont know about the new ones, but if you do receive updates from MS, you certainly will not receive OEM updates, like HTC releasing the drivers for internet tether.
Does someone know when the 4.0.4 update for the rogers one x will be out ?? Thank's

Does it matter? We already have many talented Devs here that have released their own 4.0.4 ROMs.
I know but my phone need to be rooted and I don't want to lose my msg, app , settings , etc ...
Then I would suggest staying quiet until Rogers decides to update it. None of us at XDA has any insider information.

You won't lose any of that if you root, and you can back all that stuff up when flashing a ROM. If you aren't planning on rooting, then xda probably isn't the place for you. It's a developer forum, not a general support forum. That said, I highly recommend you root.
Do I need one of those "vanilla" developer phones if I'm to install a custom ROM on my Note 3? As far as I know, nope. You can root any Android phone.
I'm fairly sure that I can ClockWorkMod + install custom ROM on a phone I purchase in a shop. But I just want to make sure .
Thank you in advance .

Although my question seemed that of a noob, I can assure you I am not. My first rooted phone was HTC Tytn2 which I rooted using Duty's ROM's which I found here back in 2008. So no worries . Now I have a rooted SG2. I know all the procedures, safety steps and so on.
The reason I asked such a dumb question was that I had a 1% uncertainty regarding this, which I was unwilling to risk on.
As far as I know, the so-called dev-phones are simply loaded with a vanilla version of Android, no Samsung bloatware.
Anyway, thank you guys for calming my fears .

There´s only one Google Edition phone in Samsung, the S4. Still, you can get a "normal" S4 and still flash it like crazy.

If you have bricked one beyond fixing and can't get it replaced, please consider donating it rather than throwing it in a desk drawer, shooting it, or whatever other crazy idea comes to mind. I can almost always put a bricked phone to good use.
Anyone who would like to use fastboot/adb for this device please use the following version fastboot/adb. It's HTC's own version. It works on pc's with less ram and it automatically breaks up a single zip into pieces for transfer. It also reflashes automatically if needed.

I managed to figure out the firmware largely due to dottat. There were multiple threads of various age, some with seemingly conflicting advice. This goes for most device forums I follow. There was no authoritative resource, IMO, until this thread.
The search feature was key, I am pretty thorough before embarking in firmware upgrades.

Your OP does contain the required information and instructions, so I can't really complain. One thing that could be helpful is to list the bootloader version info for each firmware release. You listed the most recent one right at the top of the thread, so at least it is easy to tell whether a given device is on the latest firmware or not. Because your thread is the main firmware thread, perhaps it would be best if the OP were organized into sections for 4.4.2, 4.4.3, and 4.4.4. It could be clarified which partitions are modified in the process, and whether the radios are affected. Install instructions could be put in their own spot.
These are only ideas! Also, your thread should probably be stickied. Thanks for all you do.

Firmware flash
Hello everyone. I am new to this Forum. I've only been here a few days. I have an Unlocked/S-Off Verizon HTC One M8 that I recently purchased from Ebay. I had a little trouble for a while when I first got it as it was running 4.4.2 and I took the OTA update to 4.4.3 and it messed up the phone. I didn't know it was Unlocked/S-Off'd. And the seller said it wasn't rooted any more. Well so now that I know it is even after running the Verizon RUU, I was wondering if I need to upgrade the firmware one upgrade at a time (meaning 4.4.3 and then 4.4.4)? Or can I jump to a 5.01 Lollipop ROM? I have TWRP installed and I used Flashify to install it. I'm hoping to use Flashify more for installing zips. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you....oh and I'm loving this M8!!!!

Hello dottat. Thank you for replying to my question(s). Yes I know that a ROM is different than firmware. I was just wondering if I had to upgrade my firmware one update at a time or if I could just jump from 4.4.2 to say 5.0 or 5.01 so that if I wanted to I could put a custom ROM on my M8. I'm not actually sure how high the firmware upgrades go. I've only seen 4.4.4 as the highest so far.

update process on factory unlocked VZW M8 used with GSM
Hi!
I am getting a verizon factory unlocked model and i am going to use it on a GSM network in india.Since its factory unlocked there should be no issues with the network. .however i had some doubts about the software updates. .so will i be able to receive and install updates normally without resorting to rooting the phone. .some people reported that they had an issue installing the update where it said that they have to be on CDMA or something like that. .Will i be able to overcome such issues by connecting to wifi?Is someone could shed a little light on how the update process works when used abroad with a GSM carrier it would be great!Thank you so much in advance!

You will always be able to install the s-on ruu from here. The problem is that the latter versions of software while sim unlocked have proven very difficult to use on some carriers because you can no longer edit apn. You have to chose from pre-provided apn and thats only if they show up with your SIM card inserted.
You would be really wise to s-off the phone even if you don't root it as this would be the only way to downgrade if you ended up not having a workable situation on the newer software.
Hi Nerds,
I just get my new HTC One ME from China and I wonder that there is still no specific way to root it. The hardware is allmost from the M9 Plus. You can compare the ME to M9+ (gsm arena website) sorry not aviable to post links yet ^^. the difference between this two devices is, the ME got no aluminium case and there is no 2nd Camera on the back side. And unfortunately no USB 3.0. but the same chipset cpu and gpu.
my question is, can I root it with the common HTC ONE M9 PLUS files. I really dont want to brick it, so i better ask =)
thanks!

Well, i think there's already a recovery for m9ew, but in chinese:
http://bbs.mgyun.com/thread-44535-1-1.html
someone here with good Chinese might help you to download it and upload it to somewhere easier to access.
It may be tho' in Chinese inside TWRP so you'll need a dictionary possibly. Or you can try extract it with https://github.com/xiaolu/mkbootimg_tools and replace the ui portrait resources with english inside twres, then repack.
And to answer the question: I wouldn't try it with m9pw (m9+) recovery, very high chance of failure, at least not without a full RUU zip to make sure you can restore phone to stock.

Yes,the hardware of ME is almost same as M9+. But don't use the same recovery for it only if you already have a RUU.
Bellow is a english version recovery for ME from http://bbs.gfan.com/android-8014295-1-1.html
download:http://pan.baidu.com/s/1kTs0fNh
password:8ft8
and then you could flash root file.
Reminder:
1. You’d better have a RUU .
2. flash the recovery and initially go to the recovery will break your system from OTA. If you would, try to repack it.

Unless you have a unmodified system image backup, you won't apply OTA from original hTC update. If you can get the OTA file somewhere and extract the firmware. Flash it manually and follow the ROM chef to flash custom ROM.
I didn't find out any custom ROM released on the above website. You need to join their QQ group to get one and I don't have a QQ account ( china mobile phone number). I am happy there was a XDA forum to share information for M9+.
hello, i have m9ew with radio 1405. can anyone guide me into installing GAPPS ?
I got mine from HK so it came with gapps. where did you find yours in China? i could not find anyone who had the ME in China. With regards to Gapps, did your phone come with HTC market? if so u can usually get gapps directly from there. its an app called gms or gsm, i cant remember exactly. then you run that app and it will install gapps automatically, just follow the onscreen instructions. That was the case with my M7 dual sim.
any updates on this? solutions?

The phone is doing great though I miss rooting tools but I face a serious issue which is overheating which is so frustrating for me.
It makes it lagging and slow and I have to let it cool down to regain its full power
