I start this thread because this question has bother me for a month, since i had the Titan.
We all know that next gen windows Phone will use the NAND Flash Memory. So the first thing i know, there is no Gold Card anymore.
I used to use the Gold Card Technique to install the EU Official Windows Mobile ROM for the Asia HD2, so i am kinda familar with it.
So now i have the HTC Titan from UK , and i am not really pleased with the British Accent on it. So i am looking for the answer if i can install the Official ROM of AT&T version for it, and most important thing: be able to receive the official update for it.
Since it is NAND Flash Memory, and bootloader will cancel the install from the start, i am looking for anyone who have the answer.
And there are many custom ROM out there, but my main concern will it be able to receive the update?
Thanks.
PS: my bad i mean Region, not "religion".

Maybe no one here tried it yet. But if I were you, I wouldnt mess my ROM. About custom ROM, that depends. I remember one of DFT that was able to receive update. Dont know about the new ones, but if you do receive updates from MS, you certainly will not receive OEM updates, like HTC releasing the drivers for internet tether.

ok seems theres an official update from HTC for our rogers phones anyone try it yet http://www.htc.com/ca/SupportDownloadList.aspx?p_id=270&act=sd&cat=2
Ooooh, eeenteresting....
Code:
Why is updating the software on your device recommended?
The ROM software update posted below provides several key enhancements for your HTC Dream:
-Improves the overall device functionality and stability
-Enables correct SMS timestamp [B]<<<<<<<<<<!!!!![/B]
-Enables Chinese character display for POP3 HTML Emails
-Corrects E-mail client exchange Issues
yes can it be timestamp fix heaven? lol.. just wondering if this is going to work for rooted or non 32a magic.. or both
The update pages says "HTC Magic (Rogers)" but when I stick in my S/N it says: Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device. Bummer since my phone and box say HTC Rogers on them.

ditto :/
i just got the S/N from the box as I didnt want to remove the battery.
yeah i noticed it also.. comes up when you select Rogers Magic.. but if you noticed in the notes.. some of which also posted above.. it says enhance dream isssues... will try my s/n and let you know
you can get the files from the rogers support page.. i used this link to get there http://www.androidincanada.ca/news/update-rogers-htc-dreammagic-android-timestamp-problem/
I have the direct link here:

Be careful as this update will more than likely install a Perfect SPL on your device. You will need to re-root your device after installing this. Could be a painful process.
I'm going to wait for somebody who knows what they're doing to remove the important bits from this update.
Cheers!
my thoughts exactly.. the way they have been putting the perfect spl on devices that didnt have it.... I tried it ( im running Jacheroski 2.7.4r2) and it didnt even recognize my phone. I was reading on the HTC site that you need HTC sync software first... thought that was for hero.. anyways.. have to run out for a bit will check back later... on a side note.. if this actually unroots your phone and puts the rogers apps back on .. couldnt someone tweak this up date and make it a restore rom?
I can confirm that it installs a 'Perfected SPL'.
Version 1.33.0010 to be exact.
Proceed with caution! I read through some posts on how to root these devices with 1.33.0010 and I really wouldn't want to have to do that.
I haven't installed the ROM image, and I won't.
After running the RUU (before you even click Next or accept the terms), you can find rom.zip in "%TEMP%\{F313B180-FF83-48A8-B925-E14312A5AFCB}\{50F2F878-636A-496F-A7CB-544C067E0C4B}"
I'm sorry if this isn't being asked in the correct place but as this thread is already discussing the new ROM update I was hoping that someone here could please tell me whether or not this ROM update would SIM relock a SIM unlocked Rogers Magic phone?
I am asking because I should be recieving my new unlocked Rogers Magic (that I am going to be using on AT&T) any day now and while I wouldn't mind updating it with the new ROM I really don't want to go through the expense and hassle of having to SIM unlock it when part of the reason I bought the one I did on ebay is because it is already SIM unlocked. Thanks in advance for any information on this.

I really doubt it will. I don't know exactly how SIM unlocking works, but this update shouldn't touch those settings.
Why run the Rogers update with all of it's restrictions and crappy software? Download and install any one of the dozens of better ROMs available in this forum.
First let me admit that I am a total NOOB with Android and even the idea of flashing custom ROMs on cellphones (the phone I am upgrading from is an 8525 and had an 8125 before that and the only time I remember flashing either was updating the official ROM to 6.0 off of HTC's site). I guess this makes me a little behind the times but my idea of customizing was installing programs like Pockets Plus and then Mobile Shell 3 because I'm not a programmer and was a little intimidated about cooking the ROMS.
That said I was thinking of running the stock ROM atleast for a little while to get an idea of just what I like and don't like about it and then being more knowledgeable when I research what ROM I should upgrade to? Is there a list of the ROMs and what their customizations are for the Rogers version? Do you have any advise on what ROM's I should look at and what the differences are?
I'm afraid that I will be somewhat overwhelmed with the number of choices to be made. Besides, I use my phone on my job so I can't risk it having issues or having to reinstall everything on a regular basis so continually flashing it with new ROM's as they come out may not be a logical solution for me. I think I'd rather end up with something stable and able to use all the programs, etc that I need for work and play. Anyways, any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Your best bet would be to start off by running the ROM that it comes with. If you've got problems with timestamps in the ROM, use a program called ChompSMS.
Read this forum, look for information on the 32A HTC Magic. That's the version you are getting. Learn as much as you can without changing your phone at all. Once you've got enough information start by 'rooting' your phone, then play around with some custom ROMs.
Lots to learn around here. Make sure you use the search function.
The following link was made by skittleguy to try to combine all compatible roms for Rogers. There have been quite a few changes to most of these ROMS but you can go to each original thread and read up on different ROMs and their advantages and disadvantages. I believe most of the original threads are being updated from time to time, but you can always just do a search for the name of the ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534464&highlight=repository
Personally if you want one that is stable and has all of its features working, I would go with Cyanogen's ROM v4.0.2 with Amon_RA'sv1.0.1 kernal. It is based of off MyTouch 3G. The link is below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544854
Having said that, there is one feature that I miss on this ROM, which is the smart dialpad.

Hi there people. For many of you who do not recognize me, I am a noob here on XDA.
I would like to know if it is at all possible to flash my Omnia 7 to I8700XXKH2 without the German branding all over it - this might seem silly but I thought maybe there would be a way with all the different firmwares out there to trick it into doing so? If not no worries, I'm on RTM but if I could install I8700XXKH2 without the branding I really wouldn't care too much for the official update..
Anyway let me know, I am quite computer literate so I don't need really deep details - and thanks in advanced to anyone who helps, even if it is with a simple "no, not possible"

I did but thanks anyway, its only been mentioned by a couple of guys one of which I've PM'd about it buy we both have a different first language so its a bit tough to work out.
If someone could just confirm or deny this method for me that would be great
1. Flash a (pre)NoDo Tmobile DE Branded Rom
2. Go through the process of upgrading that to Mango RTM (which in itself will remove the tmobile branding
3. Close Zune and run command - wpupdate /iu thatpackagefromxxkh2.pk
Which should leave me on RTM but with the upgraded drivers from KH2..
Like I said this is all speculation of conversation with someone so I may just be completely wrong in translation...
EDIT
So that's probably definately not going to work.
How about if I replace the .csc in the kh2rom with one from an (obviously older) unbranded engineering rom..would that work?
Hello all.
I recently bought a Samsung Focus S (i937) on eBay, but the equipment was a mobile phone demonstration of a store, and as such came with a demo ROM (7.10.7739.25), now I want to install on it a normal rom official, can someone help?
My best bet is trying to find an official ROM for it up here, and then flash it.

There is no way to install ROM on this device.
In my opinion, the only way out of this demo version would be to find a CAB file leading to update.
Here is a thread where you can find official ROMs and flashing tools with complete discription.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306415
SparkW (Verizon Trophy) users had this problem. For the longest time, the only leaked flashable roms turned our phones into demo models! It was terrible because the device would reset itself every day at midnight, and all your data/programming (this is a CDMA phone after all) would be gone!
We where finally granted a solution in that a full Mango rom leaked before Mango's release to Zune, so we could finally "un-demo" our phones. It wasn't for a few months after that that DFT added support for SparkW with their unlocked bootloaders.
If you cannot find a flashable rom, perhaps your phone has an unlocked bootloader available? With that, you could possessively flash a 3rd party rom. I don't know anything about Samsung phones, so I don't know how useful my input is. I do understand how manually pushing updates is a waste a time (it really is.. just a complete waste) as it won't remove the package creating the demo.
Looking at the Samsung Focus S forum.. how is this device not a legacy/low use device on xda? The Spark/Trophy forum is way more active then this?! ;

I'm there to ask questions and nobody can.

With the new updates for wp7.8 had news for the Focus S?
Once the zune doesn't update the device, it can be possible to obtain the update via the SevenEighter?
I've tried but without success.
So recently i bought an HTC One S with an S3 processor which its country is of Asia. I am currently at europe. I still am on Android 4.0.3 and there doesnt seem to be an update for my phone. Now i know that 4.0.4 and also JB are rolling out, but not for my device. Is there anything I can do to solve this ?
Thanks
I live in a country where HTC sell the S3 processor only. I had my cousin sent me HOS from US, big difference.
You might want to trade for an S4 though.
In the meantime you can search the development forum and look for an S3 ROM.
Not many but there are some.

HOS stands for Htc One S and a Rom is basically an operating system for your device that is nothing like stock, has tweaks here and there things that stock doesnt, and if you root you will.still be able to receive updates but you have to relock the phone and some other things I can't remember then you can apply the update, basically you can't apply update to a rooted phone its just gonna give you and installation error then reboot your phone I think but that's basically it for your questions, hopefully it was helpful to you

Thanks for the information !
A friend told me that if i root the phone i can change my firmware from Asia to Europe where i live so that i can recieve updates accordingly to my phone. Is this true ?
Also is there a detailed noob instructions for me to follow and learn more about rooting the phone and installing customs ROMS etc. ?
Thanks

If you root, you can manually install all sorts of fun stuff. I think if you want to remain as close to stock and receive "official" updates, super cid is something you might wanna read about. There's a thread in the Dev Section by Torxx that I used to root my S4 you might wanna look over and see if that's for you. Make sure everything you decide to do is compatible with your S3 first though.
Edit: there's also another guide in the general section

Thanks friend. I will search in the forums and take a look about what to do and how to change my firmware. I still need to learn stuff about android and root.
Still am on everything stock on 4.0.3 and looking to change my Firmware from Asia to Europe. Further assistence would be AWESOME
How long will it take to wait for the root of this phone?
I have bought one but it really annoys me cuz it just can't be rooted. and you know the true interesting thing about android.
Anyone interested in find a way of root for this phone?

To gain root, first we need a custom recovery.
I have been trying to contact people on here that seem capable of making a custom recovery for this device, but so far no luck.
I have also been watching the Chinese forums for this device as well, but nobody there has a custom recovery yet either.
It will happen in time.. we had the same process last year with the M7 dual sim version. in the end we even had Enlish Roms flashed onto the devices... Im sure the same will happen here eventually.

Hi, when you get English roms flashed on to the unit, does it mean you get OTA updates for that rom too?

Do you mean when you flash a custom rom, can you then get OTA updates from HTC? The short answer to that is no, you cannot receive official updates for a custom ROM.
If you mean that you wan't original ROM in English, then the original Chinese ROM does have English language, and with that you can of cause receive OTA updates. I think all original HTC phones have English language.
