I have had my iPod Nano set for disk use for some time under the Apple HFS+ format, and in curiosity, I wanted to see if I could access those files via the Samsung USB connector. I tried Paragon,and the USB Mass Storage Watcher OTG and nothing has exactly happened, but it works automatically and my Mac recognizes it right away. Well with the latter program, it does charge to its credit , but with this also, it shows up as a Blank USB storage rather than with the files. Is there any possible way I could access them on the Note 10.1 [N8013] , or does it require other drivers in order to recognize the iPod Nano 6th gen?
I'm honestly not in much of a hurry concerning this issue , but wondering if others have found why the device is inaccessible to either app.

New to Android and new to this forum. I have my TF700T two weeks now and I'm glad I bought it. My target is to copy the content of my Compact Flash cards (16GB each - from my DSLR) to a portable hard drive. Therefore I tried to connect both a card reader and a portable hard drive via an auto-powered USB-hub to the only usb-connection of my tablet. I even tried with another hub and even with a third hub. The only result was that my tablet only found the first device that was connected (regardless wich one: the CF-card or the HD) with the hub and not both at the same time, so copying from the CF-card to the drive isn't possible in one step. Sure I can copy the CF-card to the internal memory of the tablet and in a second pass move it to the HD, but that is very time-consuming.
Anyone who knows how to connect more then one usb-device at the same time via a powered USB-hub and do a file transfer between them? Your help is greatly appriciated.
You can use wi fi transfer to do it with a file manager, like file expert.

@tbtaf: When on vacation or on a photo trip I only have that portable hd, my tablet and a powered usb hub. I think a Wifi appraoch is not applicable then. Or am I missing something?
Sounds like you need to setup a second mount point for the additional device - don't know if that can actually be done or not, but I do know that some people who could not even connect the first device were able to manually specify the device by mounting it in a terminal window.
I'm not sure 100% on the code, but let me try to find out.
Or you could copy the 16 Gb CF card onto the pad's internal memory (or external MicroSD card), disconnect it, connect the HD and then copy it out again.

He already mentioned, he doesn't want to do this, he wants to copy straight.
For now, it's not possible since the powered hub or non power hub unable to recognize 2 devices at the same time.
CF, now there's nostalgia if anything. I thought those became outdated over 3 years ago... Fact is the CF is hardly compatible with mobile devices these days.
No, you can't copy from an external cardreader directly onto an external HDD through your tablet. It can only read 1 storage device in the USB port. Multiple devices works, but multiple storages doesn't. Some people have had some success with USB Flashdrives/Pendrives instead of HDD's though. You could try that.
You can copy from an SD to HDD easily though, so you could consider using an SD with a CF adapter if your camera has no SD slot. (SD's have the added advantage that the pins can't bent.)
On my previous devices, I occasionally pulled out the removeable SD card, and ran a backup of the card to my laptop hard disk. I ended up with a 32GB card which was filled with music, videos, and work documents. So, I got the 32GB S III to have plenty of room. So now, generally, I have my music, documents, etc., on the S III internal 32GB SDcard as it is called. I have my videos and a few other huge items on the external removeable extSDcard.
Now the problem is, there is no practical way for me to back up the internal storage. It won't fit on what is left of my external card. I have a issues with my laptop so USB does not work, or is unreliable when it does, and too slow anyway. I don't really want to use the cloud. I have tried FTP, and it works, but clunky.
I'm thinking about getting an external hard disk and using an OTG cable. That is about the closest I can come to what I want.
Does anyone have any good solutions? I guess I could get a 64GB card, but if I got a 64GB card, I would prefer stuffing more videos and such on it, not wasting it for backup.
I'm rooted, simply so I could freeze some bloatware.
There are a bunch of questions I'd need an answer to before I could even begin to help:
What about your computer is making the USB connection spotty? Are the USB ports damaged?
What ROM are you running on your device?
What OS are you running on your laptop?
Are you familiar at all with adb? Do you have it set up to work on your laptop?
IMPORTANT: Backing up 32GB of data from anything to anything will take a long time. USB OTG will still run at USB speeds, so probably not much faster than trying to backup over USB to your laptop. Your best option will probably be something like my adb_bak2computer tool. Shameless plug I know, but its true. Well, only if you are running linux or mac (for now at least).
In the advanced options menu you can select "userdata" which will backup /data including your internal sdcard. I could write a new option to only backup the internal sdcard, actually I think I will.
Still, need answers to those questions.

USB is out. Long story, but basically, the laptop has an internal hub to drive all of the USB ports. A lot of devices refuse to cooperate when they are on the other end of a USB hub. Nice laptop other then that annoyance.

Most machines have a "USB hub" that drives multiple USB ports, so that shouldn't be a problem. Even if you were using an external USB Hub, and it was a powered hub, you should still be fine. Could be something wonky with your OS?
Anyhoo, if you've ruled out USB to your laptop, then its either some sort of Wifi file explorer (or wireless adb), or USB OTG.

I'm not going to waste another minute on USB to the laptop. The USB has not worked on this laptop for years. I hope to purchase a new laptop early next year, or maybe a Surface Pro. Also, even when USB is working, I can't MOUNT it as a drive letter, so normal backup programs don't see it. I have to manually cut and paste. But that is all another story.
I really want to be able to MOUNT the S III SDcard as a drive over WiFi. That would be perfect. Then I could run an automatic backup script.

I use an app called "FolderSync" that lets you sync whatever you want with a shared windows folder. I do this on a schedule to backup my internal and external SD cards over my home network. But it is kinda slow, so if you have 32gb then it could take all day if you are syncing for the first time.
I use FolderSync quite a bit because it also supports Dropbox and a bunch of other cloud services. It was well worth the money for the paid version, but there is a Lite version also. I don't know what the limitation are on that.

Noobie question here. Is there any way to transfer files to and from directly to flash if the phone you have DOES NOT have USB OTG support? No PC in the mix, just a flash, cable adaptor and phone itself. If so, is it possible to do it without rooting? I've tried the PNY Duo-Link as well, without success (r/w from the laptop, phone does nothing). See I prefer to have the flash as my main datastore, independent of internet transfer and local to the PC, laptop, phone, etc.
Recently purchased a Verizon LG Transpyre, Model Number: VS810PP. The closest solution I've found is WiFi File transfer. However, I want to take the PC out of the equation (don't run M$) for the driver:

Wifi File Transfer does require not only Mobile Hotspot, but Mobile data too ;( You get an ugly Verizon subscription message with Mobile data even though you want to tranfer from YOUR PC to YOUR flash. Still a lot of hassle to go through though all you want is a non USB OTG phone to flash.
I can use bidirectional transfers via a miniUSB to USB cable on the Transpyre, but the flash isnt there. Had a talk with Sandisk technical support about non USB OTG solutions they may have for file transfers. Basically with OTG (MTP) only Microsoft supported scenarios work to a PC, there are no flash options and to to try Amazon. Bottom-line is, according to them, is if you have a non USB OTG phone, your only option is a SD option.
I just like everything I have on one media i.e. not multiple, SD, CD, flash etc. On top of that I want a bootable media. What would fit the bill would be a male SDmini cable into the phones slot to a female USB adapter for the flash drive, I dont think thats possible. So, some sort of SD adapter for the non USB OTG device is all I can come up with. What do others use for their main bootable datastore media for the phone, PC, Stereo, etc. i.e. the flash drive, SD, SD to USB adapter, DVD, etc.? Or should I just throw the phone and get a USB OTG one
Now the question is bootable SDCard vs USB for all around bootable media for storage to any device. This is what I did, almost there...
Bought a neat little kit from Walmart, Mobile Junkie's 3-in-1 mobile Kit. Basically, I took it's miniSD stuck it in my phone. I can use a miniUSB toUSB cable to the PC and pull the miniSD when I want and slide it into the kit's USB for the PC or booting. Getting close to all the functionality I want other than it's a pain to open up the phone and the bootable USB image I have did not work on the miniSD. The kit also has a regular SD, i.e. miniSD > USB > SD. Not sure if this type of USB/miniSD connection is bootable. But I think all I need to do is create a bootable to the miniSD from the PC.
Any experiences out there between bootable USB's vs SD's?
Conclusion - I'll never buy a phone again without USB OTG support.
After updated my Note10+ (Exynos) to Android 10 and One UI 2.0, I found one serious problem:
Problem: When I inserted Samsung USB-C to USB-A adapter to the phone, then attach a USB drive (which work fine on the same phone when running Android 9, and the device was checked to make sure its functioning), Note10+ fail to auto-mount the USB drive. There are no response, and Samsung My Files app do not recognize the USB drive
Workaround: To make it work, I have to install Sandisk Memory Zone app from Google Play. after that, when I inserted the USB drive, Sandisk app detect the drive and I can transfer file using Sandisk app as usual. However, Samsung stock My Files app still do not show the USB drive as it should be
Another work around is to mount the USB drive with Paragon NTFS eFAT/NTFS for Android, then browse or transfer file with Total COmmander file manager. Still, Samsung My Files app do not show the mounted USB drive at all
I think there must be a bug with Samsung firmware that need to be fixed. I have reported this to Samsung Support staff over the live chat
Any friend experience the same problem? Or it is just me?
Recently, I've been forced to start using my Note 10 (Exynos) as a replacement for a PC (long story).
I bought a 3-rd party DeX adapter, and in general it works great. It works nicely with an external 1080p display, and even with my wireless Microsoft keyboard+mouse combo (with a dongle). Not all apps work well in desktop mode/full screen, but overall it's good enough.
The only thing I can't figure out is how to use NTFS formatted USB drives (external HDDs and SSDs, and disk-on-keys) with the phone.
Whenever such a drive is connected to the DeX adapter I get a notification "Issue with ... USB drive". In Settings -> Storage -> Advanced the drive is shown, but with message "The data on this ... USB drive is corrupt". In both cases the phone suggests to format the connected drive.
I also tried with 2 different OTG adapters (including the original one from the box), and got exactly same results, so it doesn't seem related to the adapters.
Also, the same drives work fine with my Sony Android TV, so the issue does not seem to be with the drives.
I found quite a few mentions on the internet that Samsung and Microsoft have some kind of agreement and the default file explorer is supposed to work with NTFS devices. This actually makes sense, since new Samsung phones have built-in integration with Your Phone and OneDrive from Microsoft. However, this doesn't seem to be the case.
I found the "exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon Software" app in the Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro) which kind-of works in tandem with Total Commander or X-plore File Manager, but has a terrible rating in the store and I also found it doesn't work with all my external drives. So I'm a bit hesitant to pay the 10-15 bucks for something that doesn't provide me with a full solution.
Does anyone have good experience with using a Samsung phone (preferably a Note) with external NTFS drives?
Any advice (except reformatting all my external drives) is appreciated.
