LG announces "worlds smallest" Qi charger - Nexus 4 Accessories

Seen this on Engadget today, looks promising to me. Its a very thin disc flat style qi charger, the article claims a $60 price tag but no details on when it will be available.

It looks like the one I have. It worked great. I always thought the touch pad was too slippery. The case made me more comfortable handling it. I no longer worried about it slipping out of my hands. The only down side is that it was too thick to charge on the touchstone.
I just got the HP case. They are only $4.99 with free shipping for Hp and it works with my touchstone. I bought 2. check out this link they have a lot of things on sell. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676227

Yikes, a bit of a strong reprimand for someone just pointing out a good source of comments on the case. However, I have one, and use it when I take the pad outside. It does have difficulty with touchstone, though I have made it work with careful positioning.

These are those low-quality generic cases from china. You can't see it but, the dye rubs off and stains your device. The TP is black so most don't notice but if you get a different color or use it on say, an iPad, you will get a nice surprise. Also, it doesn't fit the TP snugly - the thing moves around in there a bit. My advice get the official case on Ebay or something better. It's priced at $4 for a reason.
They are super generic, but they are of good quality for the price. I'm using one on my TP right now. It's very decent, but I am a bit of a case junkie and have 4 different cases at the moment. That said, I'd recommend it.
Further, I've had no issues with it not being color fast, and the fit is perfect...but that's just my experience. I also bought mine from ebay, not that it makes much difference, I'm sure...

RND Nexus 4 dock review

Hey guys, I bought this Nexus 4 dock on Amazon and received it today. It's specifically designed for the Nexus 4 and fits like a glove. It is currently OOS but this dock looks exactly the same and is $10 cheaper than what I paid. D'oh! The dock works with or without a case thanks to a little insert that changes the size of the dock port. I tested the dock with my Diztronic TPU case and without.
What I like about the dock:
Plain and understated design with no logos or blinky LEDs
Matches the Nexus 4 with or without case perfectly
Works with or without a case
The N4 slides onto the micro usb port with little hassle. I think this will end my attempts to put in the micro usb cable upside down in the dark before falling asleep.
Surprisingly, the speaker doesn't sound too muffled despite being covered by the dock. I was able to comfortably have a conversation over speakerphone and watched a couple YouTube videos without issue.
You can lightly tap things on the screen without it tipping over
Charging works fine thus far. You can also plug it into a computer USB port to sync stuff
Cheap, at least compared to a Qi charger
What I don't like:
You need to hold the base with one hand to pull out the N4. It's made out of hollow plastic. A heavier, more solid feel would be nice, but the base would probably have to be made out of iron to slide out the N4 with one hand.
Included USB cable is short, around 3 feet long
Included wall charger works, but looks and feels cheap. I just plugged in my OEM charger instead
Here's a flickr set of some additional pics I took of the dock.
I'd highly recommend this little guy. IMO, current Qi chargers aren't worth the high cost for the extra convenience they provide. This dock strikes a better balance of convenience and price, and doesn't scrap too much on quality where it counts.
Looks decent. I had something similar for my old Evo. Be interesting to compare to the new Orb one. I just like the idea of magnets doing the work and not worrying about misalignment of the usb port.

Agreed, the orb charger looks ideal. That said, I don't think that this dock will hurt my micro usb connector - I can dock it with far less fuss than connecting the wire manually. But maybe that's just me and my poor hand-eye coordination. :highfive:
This looks ideal. Does anyone have a link to order one from Hong Kong? I have much better luck ordering from there to Canada than I do from the US...
Not sure if this is the same dock, but looks almost identical: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KiDiGi-Ne...520772?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2327426fc4
A question to the OP, I noticed from your pics that you were able to use the dock whilst the Nexus was in a Distronic case...was this a comfortable fit? I have bought the Ringke Fusion which is similar in shape to the case you're using.

Yep, the Diztronic case fit perfectly. Not too snug, not too loose. The phone slides down to the USB connector just by gravity alone. You then push the phone down a little and it locks in.

I own 2 of the RND docks, one for an HTC Inspire and one for the Galaxy Note. I went to buy one for the Nexus 4 but it was out of stock then Google had the Orb so I ordered that instead (a lot more expensive but I need to keep the phone for 2 years at least so might as well enjoy it). I really do like these docks, they are very easy to drop your phone into, holds it at a very nice angle and I have never worried about damaging my USB port with it (unlike the Samsung Car Dock which always worried me).
I may still buy one of these for travel as they are small and seem to pack up well. I cant speak to this one specifically as I don't own it but if it is anything like the other two I have it is a very well build product. The one thing that has me a bit concerned is the statement about the cables. The cable they shipped with the old ones were definitely not short, I use one in my bedroom and it is about 6' long. They used to ship a long charge only cable and a shorter data cable, maybe they stopped doing that.
@rmgill Just wanted to thank you again for the recommendation. I bought the cheaper version you linked to in the OP and it appears to be the same as the more expensive one you bought. Very nice dock and killer price. Unfortunately, they're out of stock or I'd pick up another one for my desk at work.
I have a Ringke slim case on it and it slides into the dock with just the right amount of tension. Doesn't feel flimsy or particularly cheap and the back supports it well enough that I don't worry about the microUSB port getting damaged. Definitely recommend it.

[Mini Review] Powerbag Messenger Bag

Got a nifty messenger bag that can now house my electronics. Today I got in my Powerbag Messenger bag that I got from Woot! It's just a great made bag and the 3000mAh battery is just gravy IMO. You can go to Best Buy and get a 6000mAh for about 50bux but I opted not to. Reason being is because I have a 10000mAh NewTrent pack as well as a 3200 Anker Slim portable battery pack. So with all those, I think I am "ok" with power lol. I view having the Powerbag as a stop-gap/emergency source if my two other battery packs get depleted. I mean all you need to do is plug this sucker in with the supplied charger and plug it into the wall with all your toys connected in the bag. There is a 2.1 AMP USB port inside the bag that will charge faster than the "quick" charge pockets located on the outside of the bag. One is for the iPhone/iTouch but that will be rarely used by my daughter's OLD 2nd gen itouch lol. To the left, is a BIGGER pocket where houses the micro USB and mini USB port. That will house my Nexus4. Inside has a spot for my Nexus 7 tablet where I can run a usb cable to the internal usb port located next to the battery (win!). There is also a spot for a laptop that can hold a laptop up to 16". Great for travel! And of course you can't charge your laptop battery lol....
To turn it on just press the button and boom! Your automagically charging! And if you have the bag plugged in, the devices will charge first before the internal bag battery, which is cool!
Anyway, it's a fantastic bag if you can get your hands on one cheap like on Woot! The quality is really nice and is as good if not better than the Maxpedition bags which I have as well. Nice and durable too!
Any questions let me know!
Powerbags are excellent.
I managed to snag a backpack one when the groupon was only $39.
Well worth it!

Sorry dude, I got it from Woot.com a few days ago and that only cost me 40 bux plus shipping. My model is discontinued, but retails about $140 at best buy. You can try ebay or amazon, but probably run you about 80-100 bux. Kinda expensive for a bag, but it is worth it if you need a bag. I didn't need one, but like you, I is an accessory whore lol.

aaaaaaahhhhh damn it i want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did like the sling bags they had as well, but wouldn't fit my 15.6" laptop when I travel, so I opted to go with the messenger. The backpacks are nice too!
More PICS!!!
What you see is the roomy interior. The slots where you can slip in your laptop and/or tablet. In my case a N7 with Seidio Active case fits with room to spare! Then you see the exterior pockets with the micro and mini usb cords and then the ipod one next to it (glad they made that pocket smaller lol).
And I couldn't resist showing the cool LEDs in the bag. Reminds me of the Cylon's from Battlestar Galactica lol.
I may buy one I got a targus laptop bag and a swiss gear one maybe I'll sell them and buy one of these hmmm

Personally, I think you can save a lot more money if you just get a external battery pack. Throw it in your backpack or messenger back and you can use it whenever you need it. Unless you really want a bag then this could be a good choice for tech enthusiast.

it does not look like it has the cut out for the pogo pins ,so that would be useless
I have the dock (was in the box in Japan) and have been looking around for a case compatible with it.
The truth is that even 0.35mm thick cases are not compatible.
I am of course talking about cases that covers the sides and back of the phone.
Cases of this thickness have been tested and reported as non-compatible by Japanese users. They still require to push very hard on the phone to fit into the dock and it is hard to take it out after that.
I've also got a brodit car holder that uses the pogo pins.
So for me its even worse, not only does the case have to fit with the dock, but also the car holder.
And all these superthin cases are not cheap, don't want to drop 30 bucks USD on an experiment.
Case compatible dock
I just came across a dock on Ebay UK that has a removable section to allow the extra width needed for case's.
Ive ordered it so will report back when it arrives, from Hong Kong so may not be quick.
Excellent idea tho, something Sony should pick-up on maybe.

Dock arrived this morning, and looks pretty impressive.
Dimesionally, it is exactly the same as the DK26 dock from Sony, the removable sleeve (to allow extra thickness for cases) is approx 1mm+ thick and very nicely
built into the unit - and easy to remove.
The charging pins are more than long enough to cope with a case as they are spring loaded.
Also, this dock also allows for charging from my laptop (DK26 does not work from a USB) which is handy.
TBH for the price difference - 6.99 compared with 25.00 for the DK26, and the abilty to charge from pc, and use with a case ......its a no brainer really.
Only critisism i can make really, is the springy prongs (Not the charger ones) that hold the phone are a little stiff, which may case problems with gel cases etc. that will try to drag rather than push. Although these will probably free up more with use.
overall, for seven quid, you cant go wrong.
I also own the DK26 and thouroughly wish id of seen this first.
EDIT:
Just took it apart and pulled out the springs, now its smooth as. A highly recommended mod.
Phone now just drops into place nicely, regardless of case.

The bumper cases still wont fit, it has to be a thin profile case.
Removing the insert only gives you just over 1.5mm of clearance, so cases still need to be thin as can be. But there are quite a few out there with the slot for dock pins.

Another vote for the iBolt dock. Secure, functions well, doesn't obscure the camera, lets the S4 in a Trident Kraken/Otterbox Defender fit, etc... pricey but worth it IMHO.

It does not fit, but you can shave down soft plastic of the iBolt connector pretty easily with a x-acto/hobby knife. Or any sharp knife really. Took me 1-2 minutes to do. See my post with pictures here:

There's also a bunch of other useful info about the iBolt dock in that thread.
I'm a big fan of these
http://www.amazon.com/cell-phones-accessories/dp/B002K9IPOC
It mounts securely and it solid and it's easy to clip and unclip the phone one handed. Adjustment is also one handed via push buttons and you can rotate it to and from landscape without changing your adjustments. My S4 will be my third phone to occupy the mount.

I've tried all the better model of car docks and the Craigsdocks dock is by far the best, IMO.

Charges, secure holding. Can put the phone in and remove it, all with one hand. No putting it in the dock and then plugging in the USB cable. Nope, this one is all done in one easy motion with just one hand.
A bit more $$, but it will work with any Samsung Galaxy phone. S2, S3, S4, Note II. So it's pretty much future proof as long as Samsung keeps putting the USB port on the bottom of the phone.
It also works with extended batteries and large cases. And billet aluminum. I just can't really say enough good things about this dock.

WOW....... umm, I'm very impressed! Going to contact them and see if they'll send me a demo unit to review! GREAT find, thanks for posting
The car and desktop docks from Craig look great. A bit pricey. I wonder if the car dock can be attached to my proclips base.

That's exactly what I was going to do, right flat on the base with industrial strength Velcro tape - don't use screws, just Velcro that thing right to it and it should work just fine that way, the CraigsDock has a very flat base on the back of it and would work great with the flat face of the ProClip vehicle mount! Just make sure to get all the screws set first, obviously, or else you'll have to peal back the one side of Velcro just to get to it. Use Velcro tape and not double-sided tape because then you can't work with it quickly or switch out components when you get a new phone as easily! PROTIP :good:
Has anyone here tried out a magnetic mount?
I really like the iOttie One Touch XL that I just got. It has a very strong suction cup and an easy one click lock/release mechanism.
I got it on a sale from Meritline.
I'd also tried another iOttie that's more compact. While the S4 fits it, it's near the end of the range so it's more of a two handed operation to put the phone in the holder. I much prefer the Easy One Touch linked above.
I've had an iottie. Works ok but with my galaxy s4 my phones has fell out a couple times. Worth the extra money for ibolt

I have the samsung universal car mount. It worked well with my S3 and now with my S4.
