I really think this is a good idea and will sign it, but does it really help to develop ROM etc. for our device? Sorry for stupid question, but I don't know much about this case

for what is this sourcecode useful ? will it accelerate and support only by creating gingerbread roms or android 4.x roms too ?

AW: [PETITION] Samsung release 2.3.6 Sources!!
Its better than the 2.3.3 Sources that we have.
Sent from my GT-I9001 using xda app-developers app

I don't thik samsung looks on these petitions and what we want. The couldn't release even a stable 2.3.6 and they said that our phone it's too old and it's not high-end. But they release 4.1.2 for s advance, ace plus,mini2 and ace 2.. which are lower than our phone. I feel unrespected but we all know that after a period of time we must change our phones is order to have the newest softwere, even though i have my phone for about 10 months..

AW: [PETITION] Samsung release 2.3.6 Sources!!
Lol got my s+ for about 19 months and I don't think about changing it cause of our great devs.
And in this period of time there were lots of petition about our phone and none has been listend or accepted. So I don't think it will help

petitions are not generally useful . i have a similar proposition . if 100+ polite emails , nicely asking for what we want showing the advantages of the act , are sent then we might have a chance at it . samsung's customer support should care about it's customers wish , right ?
xda forum grasps a bit of a large community , which are potential or actual customers of samsung , and an act like releasing libs , sources and so on means a newsworthy xda post , especially for a popular low budget phone . this kind of acts is good marketing , and their cost is minimal , it's a win win situation . i mean look at Sony , they are doing this right now - supporting the community , and i personally think that my next phone should be an xperia .
sometimes , a bit of diplomacy would help a lot more than swearing your keyboard off at a gigantic corporation . just a proposition i hope you could get in consideration .
there are thousands of petitions out there and usually there are not many who are actually effective .

Petitons? No use. As edisile said, we have more chances if we send some e-mails to Samsung.

You can send million emails no use of it...
S+ is outdated phone, almost two years since releasing. There is no chance Samsung is going to do anything about it...
I they wanted to do something they would have done it so far...

Also, it is weird that samsung keeps releasing buggy 2.3.6 firmware..
Are they that stupid?

Perhaps it is better to write all such an email to qualcomm to get libs an drivers ?

Just for our Adreno 205? I am searching via GSMarena for phones with the same GPU and a upgrade to 4.0 or 4.1.

Devs...We need to talk..

Dear Devs,
I'm sure most of you know the HTC Wildfire-S right...? Unfortunately...XDA is promoting it..and some devs are attempting to port ICS on it.. T.T I wish someone can speak to this matter and at least cheer me up...
Sigh, why did I didn't saw this post earlier.. anyway he's right guys, at least some of us should try and take a look with the ICS ports and see if there's something the devs can do and help, it's about helping guys. You're not alone.
Yup god dammit you are right. Our device is a lot better but due to the fact that samsung didn't. Promote our device we have this situation in our hand. Plus we do not have many developers for out devices.

I hear Sony is as bad also when it comes to updates, read the xda Sony forum before you commit, I waited 2 month after I got rid of the horrible O3D, now I have the Samsung Note and I couldn't be happier, I have been reading this forum for the last 2 month to see if there will be a fix, my friend is still stuck with one, he is using it with froyo bb, and CM9 for the LGP-925.

I'm also leaving the p925 for a galaxy s2. I'm within my 30 day limit to exchange it. I loved this phone and I was hoping it would be the exception when it comes to ghost calls. Sadly it wasn't, and I'm glad the ghost call happened within the 30 day limit.
Life's good with a company that actually supports their products. Bye bye lg, hello samsung.

Why do you think the sgs4g needs to get ics? My phone is fast got extremely great battery life and tons of other things. Do you just want ics so you could have the latest android flavor or do you think or know it will make our phones that much better. I'm not trying to be a smartass just curious why ppl are this rilled up about ics.
I think the only reason is because "others have it".
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Great words blazen you know maybe ics has some quiet interesting features but our developers make than our phone from crappy to gingerbread better than ics that is one the reasons I want to start developing because I feel that I got skills to make some good stuff for the phone ( like themes and guides only things that i have finished) and other reason is because here our developers are way better than samsungs horrible costumer service....anyway every sgs4g user most appreciete the developers work even if the projects are not finished like ics port and aosp port because that makes people more happy and they know that there works are awesome

I believe that most want it because it is the newest OS and most believe it will be an improvement, much like GB compared to Froyo... Which is understandable considering the developers here are going full bore in a attempt to port ICS.
Being one of those that was satisfied with froyo, I have to admit I am even more satisfied with GB... But as for your question, I personally hope that it is released for our phone because if it is, so to would the source be released (just imagine what the developers could accomplish with it).
Just my 2 cents in the well.

You do realize that's a post from someone in the forums right? No word from Samsung USA. You cannot depend on what a customer service rep says, they sit behind the computer all day and still do not know a thing about the products they are supposed to be supporting. They are just trying to shut us up about it already. If the OG galaxy s gets just a value pack, it'd be hard to imagine them bending backwards to give us full ICS

If I am not mistaken the T-Mobile version is the same as the Telus S2 in Canada. If it is I would not be in any hurry to upgrade to ICS. My own experience and experience of others as reported on the Howardforums has not been stellar. Problems with apps freezing and battery life going in the toilet are common. Looks great, just doesn't work very well. I would hold off until these issues are addressed. I usually always wait to do an update until I here some feedback but this time I jumped in and am now regretting it.
Just a word to the wise

[Q] Need advice on buying older phone possibly ATRIX??

Hi guys, I need an advice on buying an older model smart phone. I don't want to spend more than $200 on it and I was thinking of getting Atrix 4G that costs less than $200. Is it still good idea to buy this older model since it's not going to get an ice cream sandwich upgrade? Or does this really matter? What would be the lifespan left of this phone? I don't need this phone to play any games, I just need it to browse, email and skype. Do you guys have any other suggestions?
Thanks for your time.
Anything older than ICS is going to be pretty lackluster in my opinion - you might check to see what, if any, ROMs are available for the phones you're looking at.
Anything you can get for $200 is probably at the end of its "lifespan" already - not supported. Lifespan that you can use it - well, I imagine ICS will be supported for a while, but anything less is, to me, risking having apps you want to use not support it any more in the future.
You can get some decent phones at that price. You could probably get a used Galaxy Nexus - which would be a good choice as it will continue to be supported by Google likely for some time. It will just take a bit of hunting and sniping on eBay to get one at that price that's in decent condition.
Hi erikmarko,
I've bought a Motorola Atrix in november (160€≈200$). It's a great phone and a cool developpement tool. But CM10/AOKP ROM it's not fine for it. I don't know why there are many graphic bug (for example, i can't make a benchmark -> fc on 3d test).
But if you install CM7/9, you'll get an awesome phone for gaming and HD videos playing. For your requirements, what do you think about an Xperia x10 ? Cheaper than Atrix but great too for you if you want only check your mails etc...
Or if you have worries about lifespan, you can listen Pennycake and check eBay for a used Nexus or Nexus S (Google will support it longer than Motorola supports Atrix).
Sorry for my bad English

GoL LuM, I have couple of questions for you. That CM7/9 is it custom rom that you can upload to the phone? And does it run ICS software when I upgrade to it? Does Xperia x10 run ICS?

Guys, I was afraid that if I get a phone that is stuck on Gingerbread and let's say new version of skype comes out it will require ICS to run. Do I need to worry about that? Or does gingerbread OS still have few years left?

I don't understand your question. CyanogenMod is a custom ROM. Your can upload and install it to the phone. All you need is just a unlocked bootloader (there are tutorials on Google). Take a tour in the "Motorola Atrix 4G" section on XDA.
CM7=Gingerbread
CM9=Ice Cream Sandwich
CM10=Jelly Bean
If you need specific apps that require ICS, just install CM9.
For the Xperia x10, it runs CM9/CM10.
For more information, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks but following the threads i was aware of these news. The reason of my post was that due to the rarity of the hw of our phone and the very few developers still working on it and looking at the development going on on other phones my impression is that we cannot expect too much in the future. Hope i am wrong
Unfortunately, the phone is 'old'.
I have an i5801 until today, and I stop to use, and the development was one of the reasons. Is great phone, it is. But the most ROMs that we have (CM9, CM10), doesn't connect with the camera, and when does, you can't see what are you taking because of the black image. Also have freeze lag's all the time because of the memory.
I don't blame the developers, they did an AWESOME work, but is time to move on. The new systems are to heavy for our i5800.

That's true I think that untill kernel 3.4.x is ready we can not expect a fully working cm9 or cm10 and IF they get everything working with kernel 3.4.x it will be more stable i think... But still the developers do a great work I only would say keep it up

I am truly sorry if my post caused the perception of disrespect towards the developers. I absolutely appreciate the amazing work done by all the developers in keeping this phone uptodate as possible. Even if it is not my everyday phone I am still a proud owner of the GT-I5800 and I am still using it. I am very anxious so to see it still "efficient" :good:. As correctly stated by MicroGeek i was asking more expert members than me to confirm or disregard my feeeling of "end of the game" situation. Apologies if I hurted somebody's feeling.
