Same question here, I don"t have any clue how to root it !
Follow this metod!
1. Download and install Moborobo (because of drivers)
2. Connect you device to PC via USB cable (USB debugging mode on)
3. Start Moborobo and wait to finish installing drivers. After that go to device info and you will see that device is rooted but its not (i recommend to download root checker from play store - and you will see that device isnt rooted )
4. Download and install UnlockRoot free
5. Start UnlockRoot and you will see that device is rooted (but its not - you can check with root checker)
6. Start ROOT process and after few moments you will have rooted device! you can check with root checker
after go to play store and download superuser application. Now you have FULLY rooted device
notice: if supeuser (from play store) dont gives you popup to grant privileges then uninstall it and follow this procedure :
1.Download Yarvik ADB [by Orzech]:
http://www48.zippyshare.com/v/60795775/file.html
2.Run CMD in admin mode and go to the download Yarvik ADB folder.
>Enter:
adb kill-server
adb devices
adb remount
adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/
adb push su /system/bin/
adb shell "chmod 644 /system/app/Superuser.apk"
adb shell "chmod 6755 /system/bin/su"
adb remount
adb reboot

Any suggestions?
Dont use super one click. Flash cwm with NvFlash and then flash the root.zip file. Easiest way to root the g2x. Takes 5 minutes, if that

Working root iball i1017!!!!
Step 1: Activate USB debugging in your Slide
Step 2: Activate MTP - USB to PC connection
Step 3: Connect to Slide to PC (Mine is Win 7 Professional)
Step 4: Unzip and unrar all the files in the driver zip file. Click here to download the ADB driver zip file.
Note: While unzipping my Antivirus showed alerts and removed few files.. so i had to disable my antivirus temporarily..
Step 5: In your Windows PC >> Device Manager >> Right click over i1017 >> Update driver >> Browse my computer for driver software >> select the unzipped folder and update the driver
Step 6: Install Kingoroot (Its FREE!!!)
Step 7: Open Kingoroot as Administrator.. Kingoroot will automatically download essential driver or files necessary
Step 8: For me Kingoroot showed that the device has been already rooted.. So, i clicked the "Root again" button.. Your slide will reboot and u can see Super SU installed!!!
i think you can unroot using Kingoroot if u want to claim your warranty..
Have fun.. .. donations welcomed
This post is by "kibaruk" his method worked for me.

ok for all slate 7 users, i found a real easy and secure way to root our device, no brick chance because it doesn't modify anything inside the tablet, you just push su.
Way easier than having to install software you don't even know what it does...
The hardest part of the whole thing is installing the adb drivers which is detailed below in step 6-7-8 in case it's all you need.
step 1: Download android sdk manager (there are lots of stripped versions that might work but for tutorials sake we'll use the whole thing).
step 2: Download cydia's impactor (cydia's impactor home page in case you are interested in reading a bit).
step 3: Install both software previously downloaded (the android sdk manager doesnt have an installer, it will unzip and work from that directory, it's probably better if you unzip it into an easy to access path but it's up to you, for tutorial we will use c:\asdk\ ).
step 4: Open android sdk manager, select from the list and install only* "android sdk platform-tools" and "google usb driver" (* only as in this are the only things we actualy need, if you need at some other point or are interested in tinkering you are free to do so).
Ok so here we start with the sort-of-hard part, making our computer connect with our slate 7 through adb, to do this you need to...
step 5: Open a command terminal (windows button + r to open a run window and type cmd to open a terminal).
step 6: Go to c:\users\username\.android\ and type within the terminal:
Code:
echo 0x03f0 >> adb_usb.ini
step 7: At this point you need to get back to an explorer window and get to c:\asdk\sdk\extras\google\usb_driver\ (or wherever you unzipped it), there you will find a file called "android_winusb.ini", open it and add at the end the following:
Code:
; hp
%singleadbinterface% = usb_install, usb\vid_03f0&pid_5e1d
%compositeadbinterface% = usb_install, usb\vid_03f0&pid_5d1d&mi_01
%compositeadbinterface% = usb_install, usb\vid_03f0&pid_601d&mi_01
step 8: Open windows device manager and you will see your tablet as "hp" with a yellow warning icon, right click it and check update software, then click look for software in the computer, then click on choose driver from a list.
Once you do this you will see an icon "use disk". Explore your way to c:\asdk\sdk\extras\google\usb_driver\ and choose "android_winusb.ini" file.
The first option you will see is android adb interface, so you pick next, it will warn you about installing drivers from unkwnown sources you keep saying yes until it's done.
step 9: Go back to your cmd terminal and get to c:\asdk\sdk\platform-tools\ , this is where adb.exe is and type in the following:
Code:
adb kill-server
Code:
adb start-server
Code:
adb devices
if everything worked as expected you will see a device listed, this is your slate 7.
step 10: Now open cydia's impactor tool, you will see a small window with a default command on screen which is the following:
Code:
# drop supersu su to /system/xbin/su
just click start next to it aaaaand you are done!
Just open an app like titanium backup which needs root to see if it worked.
This method is simple plus you don't have to download anything chinese or unnecesary software into your computer, the tutorial is really long because i tried to be as detailed as posible but in the end you shouldnt take more than 5 minutes (the downloads might take a bit longer though for the sdk), i would take screenshots of the process but my computer runs on a spanish version of windows (the same reason why you might see things with different names i was just trying to guess the device manager label part).
If you have any question feel free to ask and if it worked for you a thanks would be awesome so more users will try this.

The Slate 7 and the TP are completely different. I strongly suggest that instead of posting here, you request that XDA start a forum for your device. A quick Google search turns up http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660354&page=855.
I know they are different but there is no Sub Forum for Slate 7.
So I posted it here hoping for someone to reply with Root files :/
Thanks for moving it.

Hey mate,
I have tried to root the HP Slate 7. I am not a developer. I am just an user who knows a thing or two.
Upon trying to sideload flash root files, adb stops and says it cannot be done on production firmware. Same goes via manual.
So the issue relies on the firmware. HP has locked the device down so we will either need to wait on HP to give us the unlock method or for a developer to crack it!
You can always try yourself but not sure if it will work. I think if we created a pre-root firmware we could flash that to gain root.
Root files are universal so just search and download!
Well I can't find root files.
And the problem I think is the CWM.

Tried this and no success. This is what I have been doing and no luck. adb commands work and it will push but the apps aren't there after completing step 2 and running unlock root. I have done a reboot and tried more than once.
I have done this method before so I don't know where I am going wrong lol.
To be honest, I think my Slate and laptop aren't communicating correctly. I cannot transfer non-media files. Have you got this issue?

What Android version are you currently running.
The screenshot shows 2 very basic possibilities
1). you have not enabled USB Debugging from Settings -->developers option Menu of phone
2). the drivers installed are not working,
check the usb debugging option and then try again, then try using different USB Port of your pc/laptop.
Use search option as this ADB error should already have been covered 1000 times here.

Hi friend you exactly have the same problem as I had. I too have the same phone . the thing is your phone is not recognized by root tool not because of the drivers it is due to vendor id (vid) of manufacture. The vid is not present in the android_winusb.inf file which is present in path android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver\android_winusb.inf as well as android_usb.inf at path C:\Users\karthik.kolanji\.android\android_usb.inf . I did few extra steps
1] Configured vendor id in adb_usb.inf located in C:\Users\karthik\.android
2]Configured drivers code (extracted from Device Manager i.e; hardware id) in android_winusb.inf located in Android\android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver
Managed to root with these steps:
Here's what to do in case you still haven't managed to root your device:
1. Download and install latest ADB drivers from here (make sure you have USB Debugging on)
2. Download and Install the latest Root Master. Google for VROOT and it should be the first link, or just click here
3. Disconnect your phone from pc, open VROOT, connect your phone (USB Debugging must be on) once your phone is detected it will show the model number
4. Click the green button in the bottom right and wait for the app to do its thing and you should see the tick and A27 ROOT once its done and your phone should reboot, you'll see an extra app in your drawer called superuser after reboot.
5. To confirm root install Root Checker from Play Store to confirm root.
Cheers
Use root master
Use master root its best for your device to root..

Use the 4.1 SDK. But not sure if that will help. You can try the following.
1.Retry another USB port. Before that Activate search for windows update for new devices.
Or
2.There is an universal android driver somewhere on the internet.
Or
3.try killing adb server using cmd

Battery drains as it keeps connecting back to network after few secs on network drops. I've noticed.
Downloaded the file from pdanetDOTco .I can't post the link as I just joined and my total post count is less than 10. I will give quick summary of how I did it. I downloaded the file and installed in my PC.it ask to choose the device from a list.(chose'others')then connects my device in USB debugging mode.it detects the device and installs the driver automatically from internet.done. actually its a tethering software but most of the devs use this for installing device drivers.
I didn't found any issues from my device.just the battery doesn't last a day but that's OK coz I do play heavy graphics game continuously and browsing.
