I just purchased a used Samsung Transform and I don't think its been rooted before but there is an app on the phone called SuperUser that I can't delete off my phone for anything and when I connect my phone to my computer it isn't even recognized as being connected. Please help me remove this file...I need the FOR DUMMIES instructions!!!

That app in itself means it's rooted.. Or at least attempted to be rooted.. Google search return samsung transform to stock there's a guide on sdx..

If the previous owner used an app to root (like z4root or universal androot) then you can unroot by using the same kind of app... if it has been manually rooted via adb (commands via pc/windows) then its a little more complicated! Your phone should show up on your pc regardless, it will only be recognised as external harddrive unless you install the official samsung software recommended for your handset which will also install all the necessary drivers and allow you to interact with your phone easier.
Root access can be useful, make sure to have a quick look around to make sure you want to loose it
Edit: Kept messing around until my Charge finally mounted itself again as a CD drive; then I opened the "drive" and quickly grabbed the USB driver package, which I installed from the desktop. Now my Charge is recognized and I was able to root using adb with no problem.
The driver package is an 8.1MB .exe file; PM me if you need it emailed to you.
Problem:
I'm trying to root my Charge and can't get adb to see the device. I have Samsung drivers installed and my Fascinate is seen just fine. Not only can I not access the Charge via adb, I can't even connect to USB storage to see the Micro-SD card on it.
Any help much appreciated!
Edit: Thanks to a post by imnuts on another forum, I learned that the Charge has its own drivers which can be installed if it is first connected with USB debugging turned OFF. It mounts as a virtual CD drive, from which the drivers can be installed. This at least allows me to open the SD card on the device. However, when I turn USB debugging back on, my computer STILL can't find the drivers and isn't happy with any directory I point it to.

Hi - Would really appreciate your help here. Thanks for the tip on turning debugging off to get to the phone so I could install the USB drivers. Problem now is that ADB just refuses to connect to it. It shows up asa disk drive in Devices, but when I do a kill-server then start-server then adb devices, it doesn't list any devices, and an adb shell just says device not found.
Do I need to reboot Windows, or the phone? Seems unlikely. I can open a window to the phone, but can't get access to install the Gingerbreak and su files I need to root it. Going crazy!
Thanks,
Eric
Try rebooting both. Couldn't hurt.
Oh yeah, and if you haven't make sure the phone is back in debug mode.

Well, I'll be a monkey's brother in law. I rebooted both, checked debig mode - and it wasn't on, to my surprise. I've turned it on and off a bunch of times, so...
Anyway, I was able to finally get adb working!!! Yaaaayyy! But now I'm trying to root it, and Superuser doesn't show as an app, and Root Explorer says the f-er isn't rooted. And the Gingersnap Root Utility I've been trying to use, says it's all good to go, but its not.
Gonna try a different method, but if anyone has any ideas, I'm open.
Thanks!!!!
Use gingerbreak.
You gotta download superuser from the market

Try downloading busybox from the market, or downloading titanium backup and hit the "problems" button when you open it and select get busy box

Tried GingerBreak. No good. "permission denied".
Good idea - I got Busybox installed this way, but still no joy from Gingerbreak.
Just flash the ED1 odin package and done

If I could flash anything I'd be rooted already, wouldn't I? How do I flash? ROM Manager needs root. Vicious circle.
I've heard that its not possible to root the Charge using current methods since the f-ing update the other day.

Check the development thread for the Charge. There's a thread on how to rollback to ED1 with root using Odin.

Dude - THANK YOU!!!! I could not get those drivers to install!!!
Please - Stickie!!!
If you want the drivers and don't trust the sources posted anywhere (we're not trustworth ?) you can get them from the phone itself. They are located in the file /system/etc/autorun.iso and you can extract them from it.
Hi, I have a 8" Tablet with Android 2.3.1 and Samsung S5PV210 processor.
I'm trying to gain root access, but I'm having particularry hard times doing it. Basically, I found I don't have the su command neither inside system/bin nor system/xbin directories.
All the root methods (I found till now) are based on a .bat file, but fail because su: command not found.
Gingerbreak fails too, it stays forever spinning trying to root, it crashes when I rotate the tablet; sometime, once every 5 attemps, it reboot the tablet, but fails to root it :\
What can I do, where can I find mor info on the rooting process?
Tnx.
exact same problem.... no one with a solution ?
Cant beleive no one answered this one yet

Might want to try reading through this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
If you can't find the answer there, then ask in that thread, those people know best how that method works.
I had the same problem... i tried them all, z4root, androot, gingerbreak, and super one click to no avail... I then stumbled on SUPER ONE CLICK 2.2 and it rooted first try no problem..
the S5PV210 CAN be rooted
I looked for three days trying to find a way to root this Chinese Samsung tablet knock off. Finally I used Super Click 2.3.3.0 You can find it at download.cnet.com
Download and unzip the file. I unzipped it to a USB stick -- just to make it portable.
You only have to connect the tablet to an XP computer with a USB cable. Then you must load the driver for the tablet when prompted by Windows. The driver has been provided for you. Just browse to the drivers folder in the unzipped software. Then run SuperOneClick.exe Click the Root button. Done.
Trust me. Skip all other advice. Nothing else could be easier than this.
I've never done manual before.... so I'm completely illiterate here...

That tool works on Mac??? Also, not sure how to downgrade on a Mac either...
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401959
Download 2.11.605.5 file
Rename it to what it needs to be then boot to hboot downgrade
Then run the revolutionary tool
Find it on your mac on the web
If its not compatible I suggest running a emulator or downgrade and then get on a windows computer to run tool for a second

Downgrading has nothing to do with the computer, it's all with the phone.
As far as rooting the Thunderbolt on a Mac is concerned, you're better off just going to a Windows computer. I tried to do it on a Mac first but after around 8 hours of getting nowhere, I just used a friend's PC. If you're still trying to root and are having problems or if you can't downgrade the radio, let me know and I'll help.

I was able to root from a Windows 7 VM running in Fusion.
BTW, you don't have to downgrade to use Revolutionary to root. Here's a workaround: http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/418539-thunderbolt-root-unroot-thread.html

Honestly, I found that just downgrading the radio was easier, but I'm not very good at using adb so that's probably why.

I just did it this morning but on Windows 7, I did it with the same firmware that you have also, I posted up my experience in doing so right on the forums here, in the Thunderbolt Section > General (I cant post links yet lol)
Maybe it will be helpful! But as far as I know revolutionary (Which it uses) Is Windows/Linux only, try a VM!
No loss method posted on YouTube
I just went through a procedure posted on Youtube by Nat3Mil that starts with a temp root of the 605.9 that then allows you to use revolutionary to root without data loss. I am running my first titanium backup on my now rooted thunderbolt 605.9 now and I am at the green end of noob town.
Since I cant paste links you will have to try a search for temp root 605.9 might throw Nat3Mil in for good measure.
here is the written part of the guide with the links removed
//WRITTEN GUIDE
1. install htc drivers
2. plug thunderbolt into computer
3. turn on usb debugging (settings, applications, development, (check) usb debugging, okay
4. download ThunderboltTempRoot.zip from link below
5. extract package to C:\
6. click start, type cmd, press enter
7. in command promt type
cd c:\ThunderboltTempRoot (press enter)
adb devices (press enter)
(at this point you should see your device listed with serial #, if not, reinstall the driver, make sure usb debugging is on, and remove any syncing software from computer (htc sync, itunes, etc) then try again. you cant continue unless your device is listed!)
adb push fre3vo /data/local/tmp (press enter)
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/fre3vo (press enter)
adb shell /data/local/tmp/fre3vo -debug -start F0000000 -end FFFFFFFF (press enter)
8. Your thunderbolt is now temp rooted. DO NOT REBOOT or youll have to do this over.
9. go to my rooting video linked below and follow along to get perm root without wiping data! (you can skip the driver install, its the same driver as above)
Also on the video that he did showing the revolutionary part there was this note that speaks more to the original post:
SUCCESS! Booya, you rock. I used your other video for getting S-OFF with Gingerbread 2.4.3 and software update 2.11.605.9. Everything worked as shown in the videos. To my Apple-brandishing cohorts: I was able to do this with Windows XP via Parallels on a Macbook Pro. Make sure to have Parallels attach the phone to the Virtual Machine. Also, you might want to download the files required using a Windows browser just to prevent and corruptions issues when transferring between OSes.

Same question here, I don"t have any clue how to root it !
Follow this metod!
1. Download and install Moborobo (because of drivers)
2. Connect you device to PC via USB cable (USB debugging mode on)
3. Start Moborobo and wait to finish installing drivers. After that go to device info and you will see that device is rooted but its not (i recommend to download root checker from play store - and you will see that device isnt rooted )
4. Download and install UnlockRoot free
5. Start UnlockRoot and you will see that device is rooted (but its not - you can check with root checker)
6. Start ROOT process and after few moments you will have rooted device! you can check with root checker
after go to play store and download superuser application. Now you have FULLY rooted device
notice: if supeuser (from play store) dont gives you popup to grant privileges then uninstall it and follow this procedure :
1.Download Yarvik ADB [by Orzech]:
http://www48.zippyshare.com/v/60795775/file.html
2.Run CMD in admin mode and go to the download Yarvik ADB folder.
>Enter:
adb kill-server
adb devices
adb remount
adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/
adb push su /system/bin/
adb shell "chmod 644 /system/app/Superuser.apk"
adb shell "chmod 6755 /system/bin/su"
adb remount
adb reboot
Tried that but no joy thanks anyway
