hello fellas,
okay let me first explain you the issue. There is guy who I met yesterday and he have a I9003 but he is facing IMEI problem, i.e, he dont have a IMEI on his phone and also the baseband is missing.. Well luckily I know how to fix IMEI so he contacted me.
Here comes the situation now,This sort of IMEI break happens if some one tries to delete the .efs folder and wants to add a custom IMEI(which may even not exist) so that he can enjoy the services till the device breaks without getting traced.I think that this phone might be a stolen one. There is strong possibility that I said "STOLEN" because he said he have the box(factory box) of the phone and even on the box there is no IMEI number printed.I even looked at the backside(below battery) and it seems as if the IMEI number has been physically made erased by means of a sharp tool like razor blade I guess.
I am really confused and I said I will think about this matter.. so what you guys say that is this phone might be of gray market(stolen one)?? or am I just over reacting?
PS:IMEI number is missing and also Baseband version is missing.

I am doubtful about that device. Because if someone has purposefully earased printed IMEI on device it means surely someone dont want to know original IMEI which is wiered. So I will suggest not to play with that device.
@OP And considering what has happened in hyderabad recently, I'll advise you to return the box and not think about it again.
yeah I have not touched the device after that and I am not gonna fix anything in it. Thanks Vishal and Hetalk for your advice

Hi folks,
Thought I'd give WM6 a try, which seemed to go OK. Strangely enough though my phone number is now different! What's going on there? I've been upgrading phones on and off since Smartphone 2002, but never had this before.
Rich
different in what way ?
Well it's just the wrong number - it's not my phone number anymore! I thought that was just locked into the SIM - didn't think the phone had anything to do with that?
yup its in the sim card itself .. the phone just reads the info in there..
well thats pretty weird
did it change imei as well ?
Hmm - just realised I'm still using IPL/SPL 2.24. Maybe that's related. I'll try updating that first.
that got nothing to do with it..
Well I guess not - but what else can I try? Perhaps something went wrong with the install somehow.
hardreset it.. this might help
Your phone number cannot really be different.
However your new ROM may not report it correctly in SIM Manager.
Call a phone that has caller id, but I don't think you have anything to worry about.
I think you're right - although the number displayed is wrong when I phone myself it rings. Weird.
yu this seems to be a cache error or something related hence the hardreset
but u might better do this romupdate again to make sure its oke
I got my mobile today after 3 weeks repair. They charged me for repair and replaced motherboard(HTC desire). Now i have new IMEI but same old problem. If i look at my mobile all the screws are not even touched. My problem- how can i prove they just flash rom and nothing else??????. Is there any other information that shows me that the mother board is not changed.
Thanks for help.
To have a new IMEI means you have a new motherboard.. The IMEI is specific to the radio.. The only way to change it, is to change the phone......
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
just a word of advice . . . .

HI there mate, im not 100% sure that statement is entirely accurate.
I think that there is a method of flashing an IMEI number and it is illegal to do so in the UK and may well be as illegal in other countries.
The sole reason i say this, is that the OP mentioned in his opening post that the same problem remains even after a "new motherboard" - I would be extremely wary of that situation. Also, if the phone is insured in anyway- the IMEI will be the reference number for any claim that would be made and if it has changed and not updated with the insurer- you will NOT be covered.
I personally would take the phone right back asap and ensure that a bonafide repair was/is carried out. The serial number should also change if the MOBO is swapped out, so if you still have the box you could check the serial number from the info section on phone whilst on -check this against the box

You mention that the problem is still there- could you let me know what the initial reason for repair was??
P>S> Most if not all devices, have some form of "void" sticker system- these are tiny stickes that are placed over screw heads in order to indicate whether the screws have been removed. I would take the back cover off, take the battery out and look for these stickers on the screws. If there are none, or the screws look like they have been undone/scratched- then i would say a new MOBO has been fitted. If there ARE void stickers however, then you may have just had a different IMEI flashed (carries a jail senence in UK for doing this)
The other problem you face in identifying this , is that the repairer may have just replaced the stickers AFTER replacing the MOBO.
Hope this sheds a little light on you prob bud.
Id definitely go back to whoever fixed it, even if just to get the repairs checked out and certified documentation for work carried out! What was the problem with your phone? Is it possible that it could be a common manufacturers problem with that particular handset?
First of all thanks for ur answers.

It get extrem hot and turn itself off or it hangs for many hours.(only option is to remove battery)
Void sticker (Three of them on the sides) are not removed.. only one of them (from 4) is removed :.
I have same serial no. and same old IMEI on the back side of my mobile ( or is there any other method to check serial no?) . But if i press *#*#4636#*#* or *#06# i get new imei... and they gave me also on paper that they have changed the MB.
Sounds lile a trip back to tell them the MB cant have been the problem after all then, keep that paperwork safe
i just bought a nexus s and when i turned it on i wasn't prompted to the android screen that tells me to touch the screen to sign into my gmail account so i got a little paranoid. the screen protector is still on the front and back, the battery was sealed and the charger was wrapped like it was new so i'm not sure if it was used and sold as new. anyone know what bestbuy does if they get a returned cell phone?
i did a factory reset and then upgraded from 2.3.1 to 2.3.2 and then 2.3.3 manually. my IMEI was assigned to my phone number so i'm not worried about that but i'm paranoid thinking someone could have installed something on the phone to steal information and then returned it since it seemed someone used the phone. it's in new condition and there is nothing wrong with it (so far) so i don't want to have to deal with returning it and then getting a bad phone that i have to exchange again. i know it's an irrational paranoia but could anyone give me peace of mind and let me know if it's possible?
also, i'm assuming something WOULD have been able to be installed if it was rooted and i'm pretty sure my phone wasn't rooted.
Return to stock ROM here:

This is just for those looking for the complete bone stock, full 2.3.3 ROM. Use it to return to stock but remember it will remove your root.

Huh?
did you buy the phone in a store like best buy? or 2nd hand from another owner?
either way you can go into settings > privacy > then wipe data factory default
i bought the phone at best buy. i did a factory reset and i used the stock 2.3.3 update so i took care of those things.
ignore the IMEI statement. i was wondering how someone WOULDN'T be able to report that IMEI number stolen but since it's assigned to my phone number i'm sure it would be impossible to do. remember, i'm being irrational since i just bought the phone for over $500 so i want to make sure i'm secure.
i guess if updating to 2.3.3 removes root access then everything should be secure. anything that could have been installed on the phone if it was rooted when it was running 2.3.1 has since been removed right?

IMEI numbers are not assigned to phone numbers. Well, possibly in the US, but not in the rest of the world.
If I knew your IMEI number, I could possibly report it stolen. And then you would have to report it "unstolen", probably by documenting that you own the phone and have obtained it legally.

well, that doesn't really bother me. on the receipt it shows my phone number and IMEI number right under it so i was assuming that they might be intertwined but that doesn't really bother me since it doesn't involve stealing information.
i basically just want to know if manually updating from 2.3.1 to 2.3.3 would allow anything to still be installed on my phone if it ever was.
just do a factory reset and you're fine
Hello, my mom really wanted a new phone fast because right now she uses an old samsung and it's has some problems but for her phone is in need because of work... So in eBay we found an awesome deal! OnePlus One auction, and we won that phone only for 37 pounds. Phone has to come tomorrow, but I was scrolling through eBay and I wanted to read some feedbacks on seller again so I went to OPO information and then I readed that phone doesn't pick up any network. So, I know that mother will kill me because network will not work. So I wanted to ask, is there any way fix that fast without any parts changing? Just change something in settings and it will work?
Are you serious dude?
Ever heard of "If it looks too good to be true, then it probably is"?
If it was that easy to fix then it would have been sold for far more than £37. Basically, no chance of fixing it in settings I'd guess, but you could try flashing a factory ROM image and praying lots.
Not sure until you actually get the phone and see what's wrong with it.
Soo, phone came and any sims doesn't work on him. So we took it to the repair, they told that they will see if they can fix it. So we waited until next day, they told that they will try to fix it until today. We came to the repair and they told that they changed the sim tray and problem still exist and they said to us to wait until tomorrow if phone gets any better they will call us. But my mom wanted to know, can be that problem can't be fixed at all?
Does the phone show IEMI in Settings/About Phone/Status/IEMI Information? "do not post your IEMI" just let know if does.
For the price you've paid inc the repair you could have got a Nexus 5 in good condition on Ebay.

I think so that it shows IMEI, I can't check right now because phone is teardowned and I saw that antenna was corrupted so we gonna changed it on Thursday and what about nexus 5, we could get it but only 16gb but my moms needs more memory so .
And more about IMEI, last time when I checked IMEI was in place but I don't know what about last time when I restored the phone after flashing ROMs .
If you have TWRP installed try backing up the EFS partition. That's where the IMEI is stored.
There's no more problems after antenna change, thanks everyone who tried to help!
Hi guys, so i 2 days ago i woke up and realized my S6 (i have it for one year) suddently couldnt connect to the mobile network, so i check what can go wrong and people say to check my IMEI, and then i see 350000000000006 which of course isnt the correct one, so i go to a guy who could fix it, but he says he needs the original IMEI, problem is i cant find it anywhere! i am pretty sure i dont have anymore the box with it. Someone said to me you can check it with the windows register and searching for Kies/Smart_switch info if you used it with your phone but i cant find anything even tho i used Smart Switch some times. Is it all over for my S6? Is there anything i can do to save it? Or should i start searching for something else? Please help
The IMEI it's on the original back cover.
as punktnet said, just look on the backside in the bottom part. But be warned, it's hard to read.
