i cook ROMs with Android Kitchen, use unpack/ repack scripts/ utils to peek inside boot.img/ recovery.img & make changes to it & flash & backup ROMs almost every alternate day via CWMR/ TWRP...
A year back, all these are not possible & it has never come across my mind that i've been taken advantage of these great tools shared by these great DEVs...
Credits to Klown80, he has sort of kick me in the butt & this is the reason i'm starting this thread to pay our dues & rewards to all these great Master Shifu's...
So please go to those threads & start hitting those buttons to reward them for the great job they have done for us...
Buy them either breakfast, lunch or dinner is entirely up to you...
Arrange in Alphabetical Order
Thanks to Master Shifu bgcngm for sharing his unpack/ repack scripts to the world or we will be stuck at using Stock 3e recovery on MTK SoC until today...
Thanks to Master Shifu carliv for developing CTR recovery specially for MTK SoC so that it will fit to its limited 6Mb recovery partition...
Thanks to Master Shifu codeworkx for developing BBQLinux now everyone can kick-start Android Development ...
Thanks to Master Shifu dsixda for his Android Kitchen or we won't be able to cook ROMs on MTK SoC...
Thanks to Master Shifu Javum for looking into those source code or we won't be having TWRP on our MTK SoC...
Thanks to Master Shifu Koush for his clockworkmod or we won't be able to use cwmr to flash custom ROMs & do backups. Buy an app here... ROM Manager is not compatible for use at our MT65xx however, b'cos of Master Shifu Koush share his source code, DEVs are able to compile a working cwmr on MT65xx...
Thanks to Master Shifu Michfood for his Repack Utils or we won't be able to Unpack/ Repack boot/ recovery.img directly on Win OS... You are spare from the hassle to install linux or cygwin & learn all those command line interface (i hate cli)...
Thanks to Master Shifu Phil3759 for adding MTK support to PhilZ Touch CWM Advanced Edition... :good:
Thanks to Master Shifu rua1 or we won't be able to backup MTK SoC Factory ROM & use it for unbricking & many many more...
Thanks to Master Shifu Dees_Troy & TeamWin or we won't be able to use TWRP to flash custom ROMs & do backups...
Now, if you see & notice closely, each & every DEVs above are actually interlink to each other which means if any one of them doesn't develop & share, our MTK devices will be very dull & feature-less...
So what are you waiting for, start hitting all those buttons to show your gratitude to them for their great work done on MTK SoC & i'm sure they will continue to bring us more goodies & updates too...
Last but not least, did you notice that i have a GOLD STAR beside my name, head to here to show your support too...
There was once someone ask me what is Master Shifu & How does he looks like....
Give Credit Where Credit is Due...
Cheers...

All the Dev's you listed should get a donation for there help and hard work. I cannot guess how many hours of there time these guy's give freely so to give a little support buying them a Pisa or a beer while they are stuck to the PC scripting away is the least we can do :good:

Wait a minute, are you saying we might see a less riskier dev market for MTK devices? In that case, its about time. Ive been mulling owning an Android device, but only as a watch phone. Maybe one of those 3 inch concepts with USB ports that came out years back. Personally, I never consider a device credible if the aftermarket tweaking isn't up to scratch.

Yeoh man, where have you been, my friend...
Your MTK watch phone development thread is here... And there are many many more here...
i believe it all started when Master Shifu bgcngm release his unpack/ repack scripts to the world...
At the company i work for, use the keyword how many manhour have you use for this project, where is the cost center for this job while these great DEVs, just as above bigrammy says, they do it for free so i guess its time to full swing Operation RMD...

I agree, awesome stuff and without you all the MTK SoC would just be a non starter for tweaking and modding

Yup...Yuweng bro!! We came to know each other on a dull day with not able to repack our boot.img properly.....i just wonder how things moved on quickly and we all now belong to a big community.
My sincere thanks to all devs and Yuweng bro for helping me in most of my works related to MTK.
It will be awesome if MediaTek understands us!

Supporting this thread :good:
I have a Star S7180 fwvga version (854x480px) and I am learning to cook roms jeje. Thanks

Big respect for the developers, and anyone who has helped us about MTK devices :good:
special thanks to Bruno and yuweng who have helped me very much!

Just wanted to say thank you to ALL of the Master Shifu's for all great MTK gifts they have given us, that includes you too Master Shifu Yuweng, I couldnt have done it without you either. Thanks again!

hello from the Philippines! the android smartphone market here is overwhelmed by MTK devices and with the help of all the devs here we've appreciated our devices more. so here's to a bright future for mtk device development  more power to all

Haha, may be its a good idea...
Look at the MMX A110 thread here so organised, previously it was scatter all over xda, so messy & there are still many A110 stuff left on the outside...
i'm sure it gonna take MOD some time to get it done......

Wong,
I want to thank you and all of the people that made this possible.
You saved my butt for atleast 3 times for now!
A big thanks you for putting this all together and giving us such great help!!
thumbs up!! :good:
( PS. WHERE IS THE DONATE BUTTON TO YOU!? )

My 9 to 5 job, i deal with automation system that involves 80% hardware & 20% simple logic programming so its easier for me to pick up MT65xx SoC than normal users....
As said, i'm not a DEV & i donno how to write codes, only manage to KANG one or two script...
so no button necessary for me...

I have a little doubt guys. My gps don't work well. I think that is because gps is configured for China. Any idea for solve or fix it?

i will try learn that .......... and how do developers modify a ROM and make a custom ROM ????
This thread will help you to create custom roms
but its only for HTC devices and some other famous phones
I don't know how to add support for galaxy fit
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
Well, You can use the HTC Android Kitchen! In the kitchen, just dont let it change your updater-script to update-script.
All functions of the kitchen will not work as it is actually made for HTC phones. You can deodex your FW, add boot animation support, Change the name of the fw and Compile it!
So is there any similar tool only for samsung devices?
Nope! The HTC android Kitchen is the best option available. Most of it's features Work Man!

I found this playlist on Youtube by MarakanaTechTV which has about 18 videos about android application development. This user has some other videos on how to make custom ROMs and many other which may be useful for developers .

[NOTICE][REQ] Fit Moved to Legacy & Low Activity Devices

As the title says, the Fit has been moved to the Legacy & Low Activity devices. I would like people to come up with ideas and innovations. If you are unable to execute the idea, please join hands with DEVS. to complete the task. If you are unable to do so, just help the DEVS. test out what even is built. COme up with different custom ROMS and everything! I, as a DEV., will contribute all my BEST on keeping this device into the Main Forum.
Here is a list of what we need to achieve
-> Black Android Theme (Responsibiltiy taken by bangalorerohan)
-> Bug-free CM7(DONE)(Thanks to vishwanathptl,TJ_STYLE,marcellusbe)
-> DEV. of Scripts and Custom ROMS (ANy user can apparently do it)
-> Tutorials, Guides and ROM feedback THread ( I can do it for the future release of ANY official ROM)
-> Port of themes (Contribute as much as you can on this)
-> Overclocking Kernel (If anybody helps me, I can do this)
-> USB OTG and TV-OUT (Kernel Tweaks)
On achieving all of the above, the Fit can be moved to the Main FOrum, I believe. So, all the DEVs. and learning DEVS. please help to bring this to the main FORUM.
Also, If you have any doubts in any thing, regarding Development, please feel free to PM any DEV!
Fit is not a Legacy or Low activity Device!!

Wanna join me to make a OverClockable kernel?
I was gonna start making a Kernel soon, it seems you are interested.
Why not be a part of my team which only consists of me? LOL...
I don't know anything about Kernel Development....
Gonna start up by reading stuff from Google....
I need someone to test the Kernel too once its made....
My friend who has this phone won't do it :/
So what say?
I am ready to join you! I am now downloading the source code and stuff for Fit! Will take some time! And, I am a total NOOB to kernel DEV.
But, I think I have a friend who is good at it! I will try consulting him on what I can do.
Also, it would be good if you can share the source from where you are about to learn the Kernel Tweaking!

That's because the oc kernel is for mini....apart from the touch keys, screen and camera everything else is identical with fit and hence those features not working...a huge thanks for testing the same....am pretty sure one of our devs can pick up the work of changing the required in the mini oc kernel....the same way in which we got CM7.1 working for our fit....

Please Please people, when you take the work of others, Credit fully the work of others and refrain from taking undue credit, it doesn't cost you a dime & its open source after all !
What you have done here is even worse !
Modding Master Shifu bgcngm's cwmr 6012 & replace it with your name with some Hexeditor & claim that its yours, i know that trick too...Why don't you compile your own cwmr from sources since you are so great at hacking...
An ethical DEV/ modder/ programmer would have know Credit Where Credit's Due...
This has gone way too much & its not the first time i see such cases happening...
Just put this the other way round, how would you feel if others is doing the same thing to you...
Look at this chap here credit goes to:- I me and myself & credit goes to:- I me and myself, both of you must be brothers in software piracy...
If it wasn't for the great Master Shifu bgcngm sharing his unpack/ repack scripts to the world, until today we would be stuck at using Stock 3e recovery !

Yeoh Sahil bro, thanks for coming in clean...Personally, i have nothing against you & if not mistaken, i have seen you in one of my thread too, right...
i would be gladly to withdraw my message on both of your threads with the condition...
1) Update appropriate credits to your OP
2) Come here & hit the thanks button, that is the least you could do to show your appreciation to Master Shifu bgcngm for using his unpack/ repack script. Or you could spend him a beer since you are wrongdoing to him not me !
To an end-user they wouldn't have know or wouldn't even care if you mention credits. However, to fellow DEV/ modder/ programmer, it means alot to them...When you mention credits in the op, it means you appreciate, recognise, respect & you truly honored to the original DEV for their work that you have taken from...When you don't include credits, end-user will think you are doing all this work by yourself...You can also notice, even great/ well known DEV/ modder/ programmer all mention credits in their OP b'cos they give recognition to the original work/ person they have taken from too...
Most importantly, Point taken, lesson learned, thats all as i wouldn't want to involve forum moderator on such minor case...
As for you, afkfurby. i don't think Master Shifu bgcngm or for that matter of fact, anybody at all, would like their work hacked & replaced with your name in it...Or you could ask him directly yourself...
Fyi, Kadan, the DEV for Logobuilder has started a thread here at xda here too... Credits to fellow xda member EGY_STARS who inform me that he manage to 'track' down Kadan from russian site & most probably b'cos of that Kadan started his new thread here & share his updated tool that unpack/ repack logo.bin/ logo.img & boot_logo too... :good:
And i bet you guys haven't see this sticky by MOD Tom recently too...
No hard feelings

Do you mean custom rom ... ? I think need time to wait custom rom will available for public. I have similar phone with different brand. I bought in Bangkok in the last December 2012. Brand is MXNEC. Im interesting to this phone due to serve dual sim card. I do like Android dual sim phone and fit with my need. During couple days searching, I just realize the phone is MT6577 base (Mediatek). Many phone in Market based on MT6577 under various brand. I'm pretty sure they use similar kernel sources. Someone know where we can obtain kernel source for this device (MT6577). This device is declared as Galaxy S3 clone. How to ask moderator to open up NEW THREAD for this device MT6577 whatever the brand I believed we hold exactly similar device
Where are the download links for the official firmware???? It is useless having all the tools you can think of if you do not have the correct firmware!!

Cyanogenmod for mediatek devices

Hey guys, We are going to try something new for our china phones - cyanogenmod.
But we need some more devs to get everything going.
For now we have:
-Github tree for Lenovo P700i(mediatek 6577, android 4.0.4, kernel 3.0.8)
-Lens_flare - original port author(may work with system folder and configs)
-some kernel source from other devices like liquid gallant
The main problem is getting adb to work that could help a lot on remaining development. For now even zygote not starting, but all partitions seems mounted successfully.
We need more devs (especially that could assemble working kernel for device), working with p700i may lead to following porting for other mtk devices, as sources are nearly the same.
good project
i am in...
We've done our best to deliver robust and delicious custom roms to our device (even using andrea or some other work [which are great], but, well.. android is opensource in the end ).
We hope you could help us with cm development (mostly on kernel part).
At last it would be great to see some light in the mtk darkness..
Hi,
I'm trying to start working on CM for MTK6589 device. (Star S7589)
Kernel sources (for normal Android) can be found (has been released by Acer few weeks ago), but the biggest problem is the "device" folder.
I've written e-mails to few producers (ZOPO, Cubot, THL), and even that I've gotten replies from ZOPO and THL, they don't want to share anything, nor the kernel, nor any other sources.
If you'll get to something, please post it here, or pm me, and if I'd make any step I'll also keep you informed.
Maybe it would be a good idea to sign a petition to Lenovo to "open the source code for the device"? 4pda russian forum would participate in signing such petition. And I assume there will be much more other communities / forums where we can spread this information to join us!
There are two steps to do this:
1. What is a petition website preferrable for such action?
2. To prepare the text for the petition which would be technically correct and would cover all the aspects we are waiting from Lenovo.
Anyone to take responsibilities for any paragraph?

As an example of petition I looked at the "Give us Ice Cream Sandwich for HTC Desire HD".
So, the petition site I think is chosen. It is http://www.ipetitions.com/
So, who will take care of technically correct statement for the petition?
There is one more issue: the channels for such information spread. As to my thoughts it might be:
1. xda developers (of course),
2. 4pda russian forum,
3. Lenovo russian forum,
4. Please propose more...
nice to see guys good if we get this working but any chance of mt6575 processors they are capable of running ics so cyanogenmod 9 ?
This is great, i´m a ZTE v970 MT6577 owner and love the idea. I have kernel for ZTE Grand X V970 already uploaded to github and download the android sources and CM to start building.
The problem is im not a dev or have any kind of formation so I dont know if Im doing rigth. But i will try
I build a cm from scratch to my htc wildfire but I just had to do the steps of the CM tutorials.
Sorry for my inglish
Good luck to you guys, i was lurking on XDA just to search for a few optimizations for my MTK6589 phone (HDC). This quadcore cpu is spreading like wildfire among chinese phones due to its low price, so hopefully you will get some good help for getting started.
i'am hopi will custom rom ICS for my phone lenovo a690 mtk 6575,rom512,ram512
Sent from my Lenovo A690 using xda app-developers app
Short update on the topic:
1. I've made working TWRP recovery for mine Star.
I had to rip it a bit (awfully small recovery partition), but it looks like it's 90-95% working, just without partitioning possibilities. (But backups/recovery of them fully works, as same as other TWRP functions, and offcourse it's all operated by touch.)
2. I've compiled CM10.1, but it doesn't start, so here there is really a lot of work in front.
hey guys I kinda ported cm7 on my mt6575 phone well I luckly got it booted up but only the thing was I was not able to go pass the lockscreen its some thing to do with some touch screen drivers only my power button worked any one know how to deal with the touch screen drivers ?

Maybe its better to start with CM9 or CM10, since Mediatek (ours) does not support JellyBean 4.2 yet. So getting CM10 on it would be freaking hard.
I also have a mtk phone, i would like to run cyanogend on it one day, iam no developer, im just gonna sit back and watch good luck
LPCRJ™ - Congrats! That's something, I'd say that even something really big, because noone else had even got to that point.
If you can, please share your sources (device/vendor catalogues) on github, then we'll be able to help you more
nathan-96 - Mine has got JellyBean (4.2.1), that's why i try to port the CM10.1, also I'm not sure if kernel 3.4.5 will work with CM9 and I haven't got any other to work on.
Still, mine CM isn't even going past first boot screen, even using hints from Lenovo P700 sources.

Sorry I thought you had the same mediatek processor as the op, but I read that you have one that, apperiantly, supports JellyBean 4.2. Its indeed a big step.
But we need Logcat's to see why its not passing bootscreen, because you might be closer than everyone's thinking right know.
Xolo Q800 / Fly IQ446 / Gionee GN708W Kernel
Hi friends, I was able to get my hands on the kernel for Xolo Q800 / Fly IQ446 / Gionee GN708W Kernel which are essentially the same phone. They run JB 4.2.1 today, though the kernel is based on 4.1.2. Will this suffice or do we need anything more to get CM working.

All these phones are Quadcore MT6589 1.2 GHz processors with 1 GB ram and 4 GB flash. And, roms of these phones can run on each other.
Thanks
amardeepsingh77 - You're my god!
There is literally everything in that source, the "device" catalogue, prebuilder scripts, complete kernel sources, it's kind of unbelieveable!
Now we are possible to really get to work, not just move in the dark
yo guys I was trying to port cm7 but I really wanted to port cm9 so I left porting cm7 because my phone is already running gingerbread here is a thread I found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2246892 he have actually ported cm9 to mt6575 processor phone though I don't have this phone but I think porting to other mtk phone might become easy using his ways I flashed it on my phone but I had a bootloop I try editing stuff but no success. thanks to PdroidAndroid

Мне кажется что для начала и 9 сойдёт.
Ибо хоть что то буде что можно будет кастомизировать.
Да и не нужен на девайсах в 512 мб ,4.2.
Также есть идея может кто за $ согласиться помочь?
Next update from the field:
However sources from amardeepsingh77 are awesome, it'll take a lot of time to succeed the build.
Our MTK devices can't be compiled like all others Android devices, because we can't simply use ./build/envsetup.sh, we've got to use makeMtk, and it's got a lot of annoying stuff.
Without that we can't build preloader, and without it I don't think any Cyan or other rom will work.

Thank you childofthehorn, subarudroid et all for SGH-i497 progress!

I'm unable to post in the development section as I'm not over my post minimum requirements (yet).
So I wanted to make this public "thank you" to Childofthehorn, subarudroid, Win_Wizard and anyone else contributing to the custom ROM support of our SGH-i497.
I don't have much experience in the ways of android or Linux, but if you guys ever need a guinea pig tablet I am volunteering mine
The 2 forums are linked below to anyone interested in helping, and thanks again!!

<3 --- THANK YOU! --- <3
also, I'm setting up a dev environment to try and make my own roms / kernels x.x wish me luck.
Still learning Ubuntu, tutorials on youtube and xda-university have been extremely helpful but it's a slow journey to learning a new language.
Goals for the future include:
-Helping in any way I can (testing / dev work)
-Porting CMx
-Porting Slimbean
-Creating my own "slim" ROM
ALL for the SGH-i497 / Bionic (The only 2 Droid devices I have =) )
