A question for this tablet... - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello friends!
i have few questions.. (i'll buy it...)
- Have this tablet a good illumination?
- Is easy to root? and are there many roms for the 3g version??
- Is better this tablet or galaxy tab 2 10.1 3g ?
thanks to all !

Illumination seems perfect to me. Didn't run into a situation yet, where the display was not perfectly readable.
But then it is still winter. No experiences with summer sun yet.

Rooting is quite easy after using the unlock app from ASUS. There are lots of guides, check them out.
Sorry, can't answer your other questions.

I don't have the 3G version so haven't done any research but it seems a lot of ppl that do have it are in the threads for the non 3G roms which makes me think there aren't many ROMs available for the 3G functionality (though, it seems if you're willing to lose the functionality the other ROMs will work).

I just rooted my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and am trying to speed things up with SetCPU. Anyone have suggested settings?
It won't allow me to clock over around 1000MHz?

You need to install a custom kernel that supports overclocking which can be found in your respective tablets development section.

Awesome girlfriend!
I looked for the first time in the 10" dev section last night and couldn't believe there was nothing at all. There is so much for the 7 so far. Once the 10 sells more units and more people get them a nice smart dev should end up with one and that's where the roms and things will come from. At this point in time I wouldn't trade my 7 for a 10 because I hate the stock firmware so much. It's so laggy and un-ics like.
Good luck, keep SetCPU because it's the best IMO. I've been using it for years.

Best tablets for under 170?...

Im so tired of seeing so much ics everywhere except here i now have an ice cream headache (applause for my witty wordplay) so anywho..im about to order one of these tablets here http://android-sale.com/eken-a90-android-tablet-16gb.html
I dont feel like paying over 200$ so after my research, this is so far my best bet.comes with ics.theres already support for root and clockworkmod but virtually no custom roms yet..so if i get quiet on here soon youll know what i am up to
I posted this to merely get some opinions on this tablet,if anyone has used, owned,or knows someone who has one let me hear some feedback (i trust you guys more than those generic ratings i see on the websites that sell them) also if anyone knows of a better tablet i should get for same price range.i am all ears.
Thanks. - ryan

thanks for your words,i dont plan on leaving here at all. might take a leap of Absence after scv6 is released soon. after that ill be waiting till the ICS comes to our phones and then goto town on it. theres just not much left that i'd like to do for gingerbread, i mean theres some unique xml work that i would love to be doing but takes time, and now that the babysitter has flaked out for good im left watching the two youngens a lot more than before so my time is limited now.

True, with a locked bootloader, we are so limited. Kernels can make quite the performance difference. my hope is that as ics nears we can pull it with an unlocked bootloader from cheesecake. I am thinking of trying to make an app to automate the process even more. I sent phydo a PM asking if he would share the source code, so I can take a look at what he's done.
The other problem is we have so few devs for our phone. I'm not all that great myself and basically it is you, Jim, JRW28, and a few others. other phones have a ton of people working on stuff.

Yeah.as for me i spent 10 hours a day for a month learning how to develop.i was steady making progress untill i lost the babysitter, now im watching my girls kids.now i barely have time to focus and actually make the progress i want to to bring anything innovative to the table .because theres a lot more to know.i still consider myself an amateur dev.

@lkrasner Well, technically don't we have an unlocked bootloader, or at least a bypass from kexec? From my understanding we just don't have a kernel to put on it yet.
@rdavisct Does the tablet have a capacitive touch screen or a resistive? I know a friend who bought a tablet that looked really good for the money (two cameras, 1.5Ghz processer, microSD expansion etc.) but he got really pissed of when he got it and discovered it had a resistive touch screen.

True, but kernels are immensely complex. I wouldn't mind if he takes a couple months if the product is stable and bug free, rather than him forcing it out early with tons of bugs.

@farshad ..yes its 5 point capacitive,1.5ghz single core,1gm ram,16gb internal storage with sd expansio upto 32gn. Hdmi out and loaded with ics. And. 9.5 inch screen. One HELL of a nice package IMO.
Ive been searching for days.only thing close to these specs is the novo 7 elf 2 and novo 7 aurora ..but those both only come with 8gb internal storage,1.2ghz,and 7 inch screen. So i think i found the winner by far.

I know you said you don't feel like paying over 200, but you can get a used xoom off of ebay for very close to 200.
I have a xoom, the one with a 3g/4g radio, and I have hacked it and flashed it to work with an AT&T radio. I have been running ICS on mine for some time now, and I LOVE this thing! When I bought it in March last year, I liked it so, that is why I got the Atrix2.
The Xoom is just that bad assed, if you can spend just a small amount more you can get a used one. I just checked ebay and saw a bunch in about the 200ish range, that lowest was 211, but I am sure if you pay some attention you can snag one for a great price.
Or may be you can try HP touchpad

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

It seems Jelly Bean is rollin' out soon :fingers-crossed: When would Infinity receive this version? Or should we wait and get the Infinity already installed with this version?
http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/27/jelly-bean-android-4-1-revealed-by-google/
nice. guess i will hold on to my xoom for a while, but im still getting the infinity.
I personally refused to hold my breath and got the Infinity yesterday (me = lucky bastard). Here in Holland, only the 64 GB version will be released initially, by the way.
I don't know what the splendid chefs in here will come up with, but based on my experiences with my SGS2 and all the custom ROMs I've tried on it, I'd prefer most of their cuisine to ASUS' mainstream cooking any day. I like the stock ROM enough to let it be for a while, but I'm going to root it this afternoon, if possible. I need my TB...
I can wait too get one. I will have to root it as soon as possible. I can't live without TB. It is so much easier than waiting on Google or reinstalling manually

Well Asus usually is pretty quick with updates, and they've already been working with the Nexus 7, so they're familiar with the code for it. I'd expect them to have a Jelly Bean update out within a month.

Hi dskw, sorry for not replying that quickly. I must've missed your reply.
I used the process referenced in this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706588
Make sure you have killed off Asus Sync (under WIndows, CTRL-ALT-DEL and End Process). It will interfere to the point of plain inhibition. ' Ot of the box, I couldn't get root acces, but I installed Superuser and Busybox from the Play Store and all was fine. Other than that, all went smoothly for me. Have been running root now for a few days, so at least it is effective and stable.
ADDITION: make sure to try out the sio scheduler swap-out as well. It is one of the main reasons to root the TF700 at the moment, since it does make a (slight) improvement on throughput overall. I will try and find the reference for that procedure as well and post it here, but I'm on a busy train now and people are starting to look at me with this funny look on their faces. :S

Earlier on, I couldn't get what people were talking about either. Being active in the medical field (and having a military background), I'm pretty much used to avalanches of acronyms that you just have to look up. The bane of techie discussions.

Never mind, I did the rooting on my own with the same method.
But the scheduler swap-out is indeed interesting!
I've looked into VoltageControl but it seems like the stock firmware comes only with the noop scheduler.
And next time the people on the train look funny tell them:
YES, it is NOT an Apple! Believe it or stop starring!

You'll need both the app and the scheduler itself, but both are available from the first thread. Have fun!
And as far the people on the train are concerned, I just try and ignore them completely. They'd never understand anyway...

I called Best Buy about two weeks ago to inquire about preorder and the lady started rattling off the specs as she saw them on the screen in front of her. Everything sounded on point so I feel like I can trust the accuracy of her information. What caught my attention was when she said "Jelly Bean". I stopped her and said "Wait, what?". She explained that her info read that the 700 was supposed to have ICS but had "Just changed, and now it's showing Android Jelly Bean for this tablet when it goes on sale". She was sure of this and even doublechecked her data to confirm.
We might see a very welcome update early next week, folks. I wouldn't be surprised.

There are official roms as well on that forum.

Sounds interesting,
I would love to see some more development for this phone. It's really a good deal compared to almost any western branded phone (that is still made in China or Taiwan or Korea anyways).. Hi there,
can anyone help me out - give me a suggestion how to make the internet connection working with this Newman n2 phone.
My internet network is working - Virgin however i am unable to use internet on the phone.
I have contacted my virgin mobile provider and from their side the internet is ok, i can see as well that it shows that i am connected.
when i go to settings - under "about this phone" it shows that under "mobile network state" it says DISCONNECTED.
maybe this is the reason why my internet doesnt work?
can anyone please tell me how to make this work?

What up? Yes I have tried the MIUI rom and the Google rom I am busy trying the CleaN2 rom which looks to be the best by far.:good:

Would you recommend Honor 8 for a power-user wanting a good dev scene?

XDA have posted many blog posts about this phone and are running competitions so I assumed it would have a good development scene, however these forums seem quite dry in that there aren't many ROMs. Is this likely to pick up? Or am I best off getting a different phone with a better development scene?
Thanks in Advance
There aren't any ROMs that I know of and although TWRP finally got a port to FRD officially in the past day or two I haven't seen anyone with the FRD-L07 (US version) report using it. People had bootloop issues installing SuperSU to the L04 in the past and the then current version of TWRP couldn't make a system backup either.
The Honor 8 is a really nice phone, but I would wait and see what happens if you're thinking of buying one with flashing/tinkering on mind.
Only get this device if you are willing to jump in and help. As there is almost nothing and no one is really interested. I am saving up for the device but it won't be for like 8 months or more before I get it. I understand there will most likely be nothing so I am looking at it as a challenge.

XDA have posted many blog posts about this phone and are running competitions so I assumed it would have a good development scene, however these forums seem quite dry in that there aren't many ROMs. Is this likely to pick up? Or am I best off getting a different phone with a better development scene?
Thanks in Advance

Right now, there is a TWRP and some modified stock ROMs. Maybe in time, development will bloom for this phone. But right now, this phone is not recommended for development adept people.

You have to take into account that this phone is like 3 months old. Be patient , just because there isn't a "[ROM] CyanogenMod 13" thread, doesn't mean that nothing has been (or is being) done.
Yea...there are a few things that need work, but all in all, it seems like a great device. I see probs with notifications and some with wifi issues. Hope it's resolved too.

Well said. Usually it takes about a year.

If you want to buy it now, I would say no. If you're looking for the medium/long run then probably yes. Development is just starting.

This is one of those devices that there really is no waiting. Either the owners all jump in and figure it out or there won't be one.

I think it has to do with sales (community size) and official support (source code and guidance).
That's what made the nexus so widely developed.

Get a best phone with good development. As of now H8 is a born baby and is not good at development. MI is better in development compared to Honor.
Until someone can prove me otherwise Nexus devices still enjoy the biggest and diverse (in terms of different ROM flavours and different apps) community.

That obviously is because XDA is whoring itself out to Huawei and getting a ton of money for marketing the device for them.

Would you blame them? I wouldn't.
All true. But I have to admit, this is still a bad ass phone.

Even more badass if a CM ROM is made.
