Hi,
i just flashed cognition 4 to my captivate and i want to get a custom boot animation on it but i can't find the default one in my phone using root explorer. Is it in a different place on cognition 4? Thanks
According to the actual ROM features for Cognition 4.3.1:
- Boot animation customizable (disables boot sound)
Question is, where is the bootanimation.zip on this ROM?
I tried searching for it through Root Explorer but couldn't find it at the /data/local folder.
I also tried within the /system/media folder and I did find a bootsamsung.qmp, bootsamsungloop.qmg, which I guess are the stock samsung animations for the boot screen.
How to change the boot screen on Cognition 4.3?
I would also like to know how to change the boot animation on cognition 4. I have been all over the forum but cannot find any helpful information.
Custom Boot Animation
All you have to do is put the "bootanimation.zip" file directly into the system/media folder. It will overwrite the default animation.
You can also change the shutdown animation by replacing the "shutdown" folder in system/media/video. (For example, check out this mod... Download the shutdown.zip, extract it, then replace the existing system/media/video/shutdown folder with it.)
That would normally work but it isn't working for 4.3.1 cog, because there is no zip to replace.

It doesn't matter that you're not replacing an existing bootanimation.zip. Just stick it in there anyway and it should work. It worked for me.
Here is the full screen honeycomb boot animation. I noticed people were having problems with one that wasn't filling up the whole screen.
I have tested this on my Droid X running Liberty 1.5. Not sure if it's universal so if someone could comment on if this is working on other phones that would be great. I am not responsible for any damages to your phone.

Thanks for doing this it looks great!
I don't have liberty, can you flash this via clockwork?
Works on Rubix focused, thanks! Didn't flash via clockwork.
Used root explorer to copy the zip to system/media and rebooted, started right up. The animation almost gave me a seizure though...
been looking for a nice animation this one will do thanks alot
I'm glad you all like this!

Save bootanimation.zip to root of sd card
Using root explorer or something similar, go to data/local and delete the current file named bootanimation.zip
Now go to the SD card and then copy the file bootanimation.zip and go back to data/local and paste the file there
restart phone and enjoy new animation
Very nice, this even works on the stock rom that's been deodexed.
Thank you sir!
Glad to hear it. Hoping I can get this working on gingerbread since they decided not to change the boot animation

Clean install of Whitehawkx MIUI 9.23.
Found online boot animation to my liking and applied it.
Reboot and it worked fine.
Installed Trinity ELP kernel and with installation a new boot animation comes with.
So question is how do I get the MIUI boot animation back instead of Trinity kernel boot animiation? I tried to re-apply MIUI boot animation but it doesn't work.
Thanks guys. I'm sure it's a simple fix.
Are you putting the zip in /system/media or /local/data?

Try manually changing the .zip file with Root Explorer.

When you install Morfic's kernel, it overwrites 2 files that are needed by miui to change the boot animation. You need to change them back. Files are:
/system/bin/bootanimation
/system/media/bootanimation.zip
If you've already flashed morfic's kernel, and didn't backup these files first, I'd suggest grabbing them out of the original cwm zip from miui that you installed, and putting them back.
For future reference, if you install morfic's kernel on miui and want to be able to change bootanimations in the themes section, just (before flashing the new kernel) edit the cwm zip from morfic and remove the following directories:
/system/media
/system/bin
(and everything in them).
Then flash, you get the kernel without overwriting the bootanimation files.

Thanks. Your later half advice solved it. I get a bit of Morfic's Trinity Boot for about a second then the rest is all MIUI.

Yes. The part you're still seeing is the kernel splash screen. That's part of the ramdisk. That won't affect miui's bootanimations, because it's the screen you see when the kernel is loading before miui or any other rom starts. (On CM based roms you see the lg logo at that point.)
Is there any way to change boot animation on Samsung Galaxy R ICS 4.0.4? I tried something i found here on forum and now i dont have any boot animation and i wanted a ICS stock animation :crying:
Not stock ICS, but this is greatest boot animation I saw so far, and SGS3 shut down animation, so first U must be rooted to do this or any system modification...
Those are just files in .rar archive, so not for flashing with CWM or something similar. Just decompress-copy-paste files in their respectiv system folders.
First unpack, now Boot archive contains two files and you should place them in SYSTEM/MEDIA folder, second one is shut down animation and place this file in
SYSTEM/MEDIA/VIDEO/SHUTDOWN folder, use root explorer (paid but great), or solid explorer (free) or any other explorer with root permissions :victory:
Liked the shut down animation very much.
Is there any other boot animation available?
I'm already having the boot animation provided here as i'm in Neo Rom v3. Need a change

Will upload if anyone needs.

Procedure for changing Bootanimation in any ROM
Hi Friends,
Below is the procedure for changing the Boot animation in any ICS ROM. But it has one limitation. You have to be in the below attached ardatdat 4.1 kernel to have the Boot animation working. Thanks to wanamsmile
Make a backup of bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg from /system/media and remove them
Now make a backup of samsungani and bootanimation from /system/bin
Download the attached samsungani and bootanimation (Unzip the package) and paste it into /system/bin. It will overwrite the existing files
You can get any of the custom bootanimation file. The name shud be bootanimation.zip. One custom bootanimation file is given here
Place the file in /system/media
Download the attached ardatdat 4.1 (modified) and place it in ur sdcard
Reboot to CWM and flash the kernel
Reboot the mobile. Now u will have new custom bootanimation
Is it possible to do it with ardatdat's 4.2 b6 kernel?

Trying on it buddy. Currently getting boot loop. Will let u know if it works
Hey guys,
I have two devices, an Atrix 4G running Epinter's Cm10 and a ASUS TF300T running a Cm10 nightly. In earlier builds of Cm10 I was able to change the boot animation to the Galaxy nexus Jellybean boot animation I downloaded by moving the new bootanimation.zip to /system/media... but since updating to newer nightlies of cm10 pasting the bootanimation.zip I downloaded into /system/media (deleting the old one first) doesn't work.
The cm10 boot animation is gone, but now it just says "android" for the boot animation... which I guess is a new default boot animation? I know in the past if you deleted bootanimation.zip it was just a blank screen.
On http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32749-new-cm10-boot-animation-issues/ blaineevans said you have to change the permissions to (rw-r--r--). Not entirely sure what that means. It looks like you are supposed to take off permissions? But /system/media/bootanimation.zip has no permissions on it. (root explorer lite)
