[Q] Cognition 4 custom boot animation? - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
i just flashed cognition 4 to my captivate and i want to get a custom boot animation on it but i can't find the default one in my phone using root explorer. Is it in a different place on cognition 4? Thanks

According to the actual ROM features for Cognition 4.3.1:
- Boot animation customizable (disables boot sound)
Question is, where is the bootanimation.zip on this ROM?
I tried searching for it through Root Explorer but couldn't find it at the /data/local folder.
I also tried within the /system/media folder and I did find a bootsamsung.qmp, bootsamsungloop.qmg, which I guess are the stock samsung animations for the boot screen.
How to change the boot screen on Cognition 4.3?

I would also like to know how to change the boot animation on cognition 4. I have been all over the forum but cannot find any helpful information.

Custom Boot Animation
All you have to do is put the "bootanimation.zip" file directly into the system/media folder. It will overwrite the default animation.
You can also change the shutdown animation by replacing the "shutdown" folder in system/media/video. (For example, check out this mod... Download the shutdown.zip, extract it, then replace the existing system/media/video/shutdown folder with it.)

That would normally work but it isn't working for 4.3.1 cog, because there is no zip to replace.

It doesn't matter that you're not replacing an existing bootanimation.zip. Just stick it in there anyway and it should work. It worked for me.

Infinity ROM BOOT SCREEN

Does anyone know how to change the boot animation on the gingerbread infinity rom? I tried using rom toolbox app to change the boot animation. It succesfully installs it but the animation never changes. Any clues on how to fix it or other methods?
yes you can download a different boot animation and rename it to bootanimation.zip
Then with root explorer move the file to system/media.Replace the original one (remeber to back it up) and just reboot

on your phone go to: system/media/bootanimation.zip,
(rename "bootanimation.zip"to whatever.zip).
now in system/media put the new bootanimation.zip you downloaded,
make sure is .zip and named bootanimation ,reboot your phone Enjoy.

[Q] Infuse Startup Boot Logo

Is there anyway to change the startup boot logo on the Samsung Infuse? I've seen a few threads but all seem to be limited to a few phones.
Go to /system/media with root explorer and replace sanim.zip with whatever boot animation you want....must be named sanim.zip tho
Heres the one ive been using
http://db.tt/5L4qqB5k
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk
Depending on the Rom it will be sanim.zip or bootsnimation.zip located in system/media
Actually it depends on the kernel...if your running infusion kernel name it sanim. Zip....if your running entropys name it bootanimation.zip

I've changed the boot animation, I was speaking to the Samsung that comes up before the boot animation.
Go to system/media and delete bootsamsungloop.qmg....

So after i delete bootsamsungloop.qmg , do i replace it with what I want but with the same name?
No...unless u know how to make a qmg file ....I don't...just put bootanimation.zip in system/media and rename to sanim.zip
ALL HAIL *Z*E*U*S* !
nope that's not it. its in either the bootloaders or param.ifs or both(its both on gb for the i9000 they play back to back seemlessly) need a good dev to open it up and replace the file. there may be tutorials somewhere but you really don't want to mess with either if you can avoid it.
edit: oh wait I never tried the Samsung loop thing, I could be wrong. maybe. but probably not, ususally there is one .qmg for boot and one for shutdown but the infuse has none for shutdown and apparently two for boot.
Probably right...I have never tried to delete the file....I like it really...it let's me know I'm booting up...ha!

How about the two logos before the boot animation, the SAMSUNG and Cyanogen(mod) logos? Can those be tailored?

Change bootanimation on ICS?

Is there any way to change boot animation on Samsung Galaxy R ICS 4.0.4? I tried something i found here on forum and now i dont have any boot animation and i wanted a ICS stock animation :crying:
Not stock ICS, but this is greatest boot animation I saw so far, and SGS3 shut down animation, so first U must be rooted to do this or any system modification...
Those are just files in .rar archive, so not for flashing with CWM or something similar. Just decompress-copy-paste files in their respectiv system folders.
First unpack, now Boot archive contains two files and you should place them in SYSTEM/MEDIA folder, second one is shut down animation and place this file in
SYSTEM/MEDIA/VIDEO/SHUTDOWN folder, use root explorer (paid but great), or solid explorer (free) or any other explorer with root permissions :victory:
Liked the shut down animation very much.
Is there any other boot animation available?
I'm already having the boot animation provided here as i'm in Neo Rom v3. Need a change

Procedure for changing Bootanimation in any ROM
Hi Friends,
Below is the procedure for changing the Boot animation in any ICS ROM. But it has one limitation. You have to be in the below attached ardatdat 4.1 kernel to have the Boot animation working. Thanks to wanamsmile
Make a backup of bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg from /system/media and remove them
Now make a backup of samsungani and bootanimation from /system/bin
Download the attached samsungani and bootanimation (Unzip the package) and paste it into /system/bin. It will overwrite the existing files
You can get any of the custom bootanimation file. The name shud be bootanimation.zip. One custom bootanimation file is given here
Place the file in /system/media
Download the attached ardatdat 4.1 (modified) and place it in ur sdcard
Reboot to CWM and flash the kernel
Reboot the mobile. Now u will have new custom bootanimation
Is it possible to do it with ardatdat's 4.2 b6 kernel?

[Q] can't get new boot animation to work using rom toolbox

Hello, I would like to install a new boot animation.
I rooted my S3, installed Rom toolbox pro and went through the different boot animations. I previewed several of them. Installed the one I liked (actually changed the size to the max size as well, hopefully this isn't the cause of the issue I'm having). and even viewed the current animation (which it actually showed the one I choose).
I then rebooted as I couldn't find any other options for confirming that I selected a new animation. However my phones original animation continues to show.
With this I did a little digging and on a youtube video someone eluded to having to move the animation to another file, but gave no direction on how to perform this task.
I can't seem to get the animation to actually install or become my boot animation. What am I doing wrong? Please help
Edit: I've looked through similar threads on this forum and while at least 1 of them had the same issue, I couldn't find a solution that fixes this issue. (unless I just completely missed it of course and in that case please just point me in the right direction)
Thank you for taking the time to look and any help you can provide
Ok, I'm really pulling my hair out here. All of the videos and instructions I have found have looked really simple (just click this button "install" and it works) whereas when I follow their "insturctions" nothing happens.
I know this is a simple process here but I am missing something.

in system/media there should be a file named bootanimation.zip overwrite it. fix permissions to match the folder/old one :good:
so the easiest way to get them from romtoolbox would be to download and move like i said. not the safest to let it install on its own.
also, half of the boot animations on there are not even in the correct dimensions. there are plenty of places on XDA and other sites where you can find WAY more , and probably in the correct size. hope this helps.
another thing : in the themes and apps section, there are even flashable boot animations. saves some of the hassle.

Thank you so much for the reply, however (as I am newer) I am stuck.
I went into system > Media and found no such file as bootanimation.zip.
I have seen this solution before, so I know others have had success with it. However it isn't there.
I have root access and I'm access this file system through rom toolbox, root browser.
There are no .zip files in that folder at all. The closest I came to is bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg
Now, I did check out the theme and app section but couldn't find this same issue there.
Thank you for your assistance.
Update:
I downloaded Root Explorer and found the file you were referring to. Another thread suggested to rename the file bootanimation_bak.zip. I thought that route was a little less evasive as it didn't really get rid of the old boot animation. However, when I did that and copied the new animation in it still registered the original animation.
So, with that said, should I follow your first instructions as to overwrite the original file or is there something else here that I'm missing?

Try renaming the original bootanimation file to bootanimation.zip.bak then move the boot animation you want to system/media and name it bootanimation.zip. If that doesn't work it might be that the rom/kernel doesn't support custom boot animations.

No dice.
I thought you were on to something here as I found the system/media folder and had to change the permission to r/w and placed the boot animation.zip into it. However my old persistent one keeps popping up.
Now maybe I'm totally skipping a whole step here that everyone is assuming I'm taking. Do I have to have a custom Rom installed? I haven't done that yet, as none of the videos I've watched had instructed to do so. I'm rooted, that's it at this point.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Yes, the issue is the kernel not the rom. Your stock kernel is overwriting the boot animation. Considering you did do everything as the other user instructed you to do. You renamed the stock boot animation to .Bak and you renamed the one you want to play bootanimation.zip and placed it in the same folder?

Ok here are a couple screen shots of what I'm working with. I have followed every instruction through this thread.
This first shot is of the System/media folder. I pasted my new bootanimation.zip file here. Originally there was not a Bootanimation file here at all.
View attachment 2181932
This second screenshot of the Data/local folder. This is where the orginal bootanimation.zip file was located. I was instructed to rename it as Bootanimation_bak.zip and paste my new Bootanimation.zip file here. Then was suggested that I change it from "_bak.zip" to ."zip.bak". Neither suggestion worked. Then it was suggested to move my new bootanimation.zip from the Data/local folder to the system/media folder. I did so and I changed the original name back to bootanimation_bak.zip. And this is where I currently am stuck at.

Now, I haven't done anything with my bootloader. I'm wondering if that is my issue, if I need to unlock my bootloader. I didn't want to get to involved with things that I didn't understand to fast and felt that replacing my boot animation seemed simple enough. So, do I need to unlock my boot loader?
Thanks so much for all of the time and effort.
As another user mentioned the stock kernel you are using doesn't allow you to use a custom boot animation. You will have to unlock your boot loader in order to flash a custom kernel that allows you to change the boot animation.

Just make sure the kernel you flash is for your carrier and either touch wiz or aosp. If you're stock rooted it will be touch wiz. Just look through the development forums and find what works best for you. Right now I'm on bonestock rom with stock kernel but I really like Zeus kernel as well.

[SOLVED]BootAnimation Install Location on Cricket PLC_CL

I am rooted, unlocked, with s-off and supercid. I can change the splash screen just fine via hboot, but three different bootanimation apps have failed to change the boot animation, despite being able to successfully disable it completely. I am very confused by this.
Okay, so there are a few places where it appears the boot animation is stored. I got it working by selecting the install location /system/media (the fourth result when selecting 'find locations') and filename bootanimation.zip
If you have the same phone, are using Rom Toolbox Lite, and want to get custom bootanimations working, this install is now confirmed working (although I appear to have broken the default with my earlier experiments, as renaming the file back to the original by removing the second extension did not fix it). I have not tested this install location with direct method or other apps.
Thanks to all who Old Splatterhand and Modding.My.Mind for getting me looking at install locations and permissions, which lead to the solution. :good:
Where do you want to change it (location)?
Did you set permissions for the new one?
Is it correctly named?
Is it a selfmade or is it confirmed that it is running on another device?
For K2_CL it is located
Code:
/system/customize/resource/boost_bootanimation.zip
I do this manually. You can either copy the original bootanimation to your pc or sdcard or you can leave it where it is located at and rename the zip by adding an additional extension after the .zip like .zip.pzi so this way the phone won't read and execute it upon booting up.
Afterwards, take your custom bootanimation that you have downloaded or personally created yourself and insure the zip is given the same name as your stock bootanimation zip file. Then copy it to its proper location. After that, reboot your device .

You will need to insure you have read and write permissions first or you won't be able to to make changes to your stock and/or custom bootanimation zip file in your system.

If there is no bootanimation displaying itself then delete the custom bootanimation and grab another one of its kind and repeat the step. Your thread says solved.... So I assume it is working for you now? If so, then congrats.

There was a couple of times where my bootanimation would not work. It was mostly due to the compression level of the zip file. Best way to confirm is to extract the contents of the zip file then make a new zip file with those contents but make sure the compression level for the zip is 'STORE'. See picture below. Otherwise, the bootanimation will not work.
