[SOLVED]BootAnimation Install Location on Cricket PLC_CL - HTC One SV

I am rooted, unlocked, with s-off and supercid. I can change the splash screen just fine via hboot, but three different bootanimation apps have failed to change the boot animation, despite being able to successfully disable it completely. I am very confused by this.
Okay, so there are a few places where it appears the boot animation is stored. I got it working by selecting the install location /system/media (the fourth result when selecting 'find locations') and filename bootanimation.zip
If you have the same phone, are using Rom Toolbox Lite, and want to get custom bootanimations working, this install is now confirmed working (although I appear to have broken the default with my earlier experiments, as renaming the file back to the original by removing the second extension did not fix it). I have not tested this install location with direct method or other apps.
Thanks to all who Old Splatterhand and Modding.My.Mind for getting me looking at install locations and permissions, which lead to the solution. :good:

Where do you want to change it (location)?
Did you set permissions for the new one?
Is it correctly named?
Is it a selfmade or is it confirmed that it is running on another device?

For K2_CL it is located
Code:
/system/customize/resource/boost_bootanimation.zip
I do this manually. You can either copy the original bootanimation to your pc or sdcard or you can leave it where it is located at and rename the zip by adding an additional extension after the .zip like .zip.pzi so this way the phone won't read and execute it upon booting up.
Afterwards, take your custom bootanimation that you have downloaded or personally created yourself and insure the zip is given the same name as your stock bootanimation zip file. Then copy it to its proper location. After that, reboot your device .

You will need to insure you have read and write permissions first or you won't be able to to make changes to your stock and/or custom bootanimation zip file in your system.

I have a CKT_bootupone.zip and hTC_booyup_one.zip
Edit: I also have hTC_downanimation.zip
and
CKT_downanimation.zip
these are the shutdown animations?
I had it set to [default] install location in the bootanimations app (via ROM Toolbox Lite). This is my problem, then?
Also a htc_bootup.mp3 - this is the startup sound?

UPDATE: renamed CKT_bootupone.zip to CKT_bootupone.zip.bkp and installed to same location with filename CKT_bootupone.zip
The result was no bootanimation at all

If there is no bootanimation displaying itself then delete the custom bootanimation and grab another one of its kind and repeat the step. Your thread says solved.... So I assume it is working for you now? If so, then congrats.

There was a couple of times where my bootanimation would not work. It was mostly due to the compression level of the zip file. Best way to confirm is to extract the contents of the zip file then make a new zip file with those contents but make sure the compression level for the zip is 'STORE'. See picture below. Otherwise, the bootanimation will not work.

[Q] Cognition 4 custom boot animation?

Hi,
i just flashed cognition 4 to my captivate and i want to get a custom boot animation on it but i can't find the default one in my phone using root explorer. Is it in a different place on cognition 4? Thanks
According to the actual ROM features for Cognition 4.3.1:
- Boot animation customizable (disables boot sound)
Question is, where is the bootanimation.zip on this ROM?
I tried searching for it through Root Explorer but couldn't find it at the /data/local folder.
I also tried within the /system/media folder and I did find a bootsamsung.qmp, bootsamsungloop.qmg, which I guess are the stock samsung animations for the boot screen.
How to change the boot screen on Cognition 4.3?
I would also like to know how to change the boot animation on cognition 4. I have been all over the forum but cannot find any helpful information.
Custom Boot Animation
All you have to do is put the "bootanimation.zip" file directly into the system/media folder. It will overwrite the default animation.
You can also change the shutdown animation by replacing the "shutdown" folder in system/media/video. (For example, check out this mod... Download the shutdown.zip, extract it, then replace the existing system/media/video/shutdown folder with it.)
That would normally work but it isn't working for 4.3.1 cog, because there is no zip to replace.

It doesn't matter that you're not replacing an existing bootanimation.zip. Just stick it in there anyway and it should work. It worked for me.

[Q] Editing zip before flashing a ROM

I know I have done this before and this is a noob question, but lately I've been having trouble with this.
If I make changes to the zip file of a ROM (eg replace a few existing files, and remove some unwanted system APKs, but not add anything new), do I need to sign the zip before flashing or just flash straight after editing? Also what's the best tool to use to replace the files within the zip? I trust WinRAR will do the trick...

I've never added anything (yet!), just deleted un-wanted APK's and altered some system files (ie build, prop etc). I've never signed anything and I used IZArc although only as that's what's installed on my XP system.
This is something that I too would like to do more so that I can further personalize and tweak some of these already great ROMS, so I'm also curious for some pointers from more the experienced.
Check the portal, there's an app to create flashable zips there.
PS - POST QUESTIONS IN THE GENERAL SECTION !!!!!!!!
You can set a flag in recovery to check for signatures or not. When it is not set you can flash any zip file

I tried this once, and then I flashed the zip. It was a CM7 zip which would normally take at least 20-30 seconds to complete, but this modified zip flashed in less than ten seconds. It said successfully flashed but when I rebooted nothing had actually happened. Hence I was wondering what went wrong?

Shut Down Animation

Is there any way to remove or change the shut down animation? Im currently running Weapons 3.0 RC1 with the ICS theme

I believe under settings under Tweaks you can disable both the screen on and off animation.
Oh whoops you meant shutdown animation, my bad. Is anything listed under system/media?

If it's anything like the original LG rom, the shutdown animation is controlled by an apk. Try looking for and removing that.

As wewo said, the shutdown animation on the g2x is controlled by poweroff.apk it works pretty much the same as a boot animation but is controlled by a XML instead of a txt file. You might be able to delete the apk but idk what will happen if you do.
You could also pull the image folder out with 7zip and make them all black. I have a power off.apk made from weapons boot animation in my weapon new clip mod. Feel free to pull it and use it if you want.

First of all, excuse me in advance for my english, I didn’t my best !!
I have the same problem. I have a LG-P999 (optimus G2X) with Videotron.
I easely change my bootanimation, but for the Poweroff animation, I didn’t find the way to change the animation after 3 days of recherche on the web….
If I desinstall the app with ‘’SystemApp remover’’ and I take the original APK file in ‘’/system/app/PowerOff.apk’’ the installation work well and when I closer the phone all is ok and the logo of videotron appear.
So I tried the tricks I saw on the web :
1 - Take the original ‘’PowerOff.apk’’ file, open it with ‘’winzip’’.Replace the .png file by other one in same format. Deleter the file ‘’/system/app/PowerOff.apk’’ and replace it by the modified one. Result, when I close the phone, the phone close and restart with no image. If I try to install the file, the installation doesn’t work.
2 - Take the original ‘’PowerOff.apk’’ file, open it with ‘’apkmanager’’. In the folder ‘’PowerOff.apk’’, I replace the .png file by other one in same format. After I Zip the modified folder ‘’PowerOff.apk’’ with ‘’apkmanager’’ and select system file. Deleter the file ‘’/system/app/PowerOff.apk’’ and replace it by the modified one. Result, when I close the phone, the phone close and restart with no image. If I try to install the file, the installation doesn’t work.
3 - If I take ‘’apkmanager’’ I extract the APK for code file (option 9) and after ZIP it (option 11) for system file, they ask me to select the file in the original apk file for the files who are not modified. If I select that the program import anything from the original file (with the logo of videotron). If I try to install the file, the installation works, but it’s a copy of the original…. If I didn’t choose the option the copy from the original file, I have the same problem of point no.2.
4 - If I dont desinstall the original ‘’PowerOff.apk’’ file but I remove it from the folder file ‘’/system/app/’’, the shutdown of the cell phone work normally with the logo of videotron…
So my question is, do they have anybody here who can read the code of the original file and say me if when I install it, it extract the ‘’.png’’ file in an other file in the cell phone ?? (Because of the point no.4)
Can you say me why I create a new apk file with ‘’apkmanager’’ I cannot install it on the phone, it give me an error and it only write ‘’the app have been not installed’’ or simething like that… Maybe, if I modify the file, the phone don’t recognize the news signature on it or something like that ???
Here is the link of the original file and the modified file :

[Q] can't get new boot animation to work using rom toolbox

Hello, I would like to install a new boot animation.
I rooted my S3, installed Rom toolbox pro and went through the different boot animations. I previewed several of them. Installed the one I liked (actually changed the size to the max size as well, hopefully this isn't the cause of the issue I'm having). and even viewed the current animation (which it actually showed the one I choose).
I then rebooted as I couldn't find any other options for confirming that I selected a new animation. However my phones original animation continues to show.
With this I did a little digging and on a youtube video someone eluded to having to move the animation to another file, but gave no direction on how to perform this task.
I can't seem to get the animation to actually install or become my boot animation. What am I doing wrong? Please help
Edit: I've looked through similar threads on this forum and while at least 1 of them had the same issue, I couldn't find a solution that fixes this issue. (unless I just completely missed it of course and in that case please just point me in the right direction)
Thank you for taking the time to look and any help you can provide
Ok, I'm really pulling my hair out here. All of the videos and instructions I have found have looked really simple (just click this button "install" and it works) whereas when I follow their "insturctions" nothing happens.
I know this is a simple process here but I am missing something.

in system/media there should be a file named bootanimation.zip overwrite it. fix permissions to match the folder/old one :good:
so the easiest way to get them from romtoolbox would be to download and move like i said. not the safest to let it install on its own.
also, half of the boot animations on there are not even in the correct dimensions. there are plenty of places on XDA and other sites where you can find WAY more , and probably in the correct size. hope this helps.
another thing : in the themes and apps section, there are even flashable boot animations. saves some of the hassle.

Thank you so much for the reply, however (as I am newer) I am stuck.
I went into system > Media and found no such file as bootanimation.zip.
I have seen this solution before, so I know others have had success with it. However it isn't there.
I have root access and I'm access this file system through rom toolbox, root browser.
There are no .zip files in that folder at all. The closest I came to is bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg
Now, I did check out the theme and app section but couldn't find this same issue there.
Thank you for your assistance.
Update:
I downloaded Root Explorer and found the file you were referring to. Another thread suggested to rename the file bootanimation_bak.zip. I thought that route was a little less evasive as it didn't really get rid of the old boot animation. However, when I did that and copied the new animation in it still registered the original animation.
So, with that said, should I follow your first instructions as to overwrite the original file or is there something else here that I'm missing?

Try renaming the original bootanimation file to bootanimation.zip.bak then move the boot animation you want to system/media and name it bootanimation.zip. If that doesn't work it might be that the rom/kernel doesn't support custom boot animations.

No dice.
I thought you were on to something here as I found the system/media folder and had to change the permission to r/w and placed the boot animation.zip into it. However my old persistent one keeps popping up.
Now maybe I'm totally skipping a whole step here that everyone is assuming I'm taking. Do I have to have a custom Rom installed? I haven't done that yet, as none of the videos I've watched had instructed to do so. I'm rooted, that's it at this point.

Yes, the issue is the kernel not the rom. Your stock kernel is overwriting the boot animation. Considering you did do everything as the other user instructed you to do. You renamed the stock boot animation to .Bak and you renamed the one you want to play bootanimation.zip and placed it in the same folder?

Ok here are a couple screen shots of what I'm working with. I have followed every instruction through this thread.
This first shot is of the System/media folder. I pasted my new bootanimation.zip file here. Originally there was not a Bootanimation file here at all.
View attachment 2181932
This second screenshot of the Data/local folder. This is where the orginal bootanimation.zip file was located. I was instructed to rename it as Bootanimation_bak.zip and paste my new Bootanimation.zip file here. Then was suggested that I change it from "_bak.zip" to ."zip.bak". Neither suggestion worked. Then it was suggested to move my new bootanimation.zip from the Data/local folder to the system/media folder. I did so and I changed the original name back to bootanimation_bak.zip. And this is where I currently am stuck at.

Now, I haven't done anything with my bootloader. I'm wondering if that is my issue, if I need to unlock my bootloader. I didn't want to get to involved with things that I didn't understand to fast and felt that replacing my boot animation seemed simple enough. So, do I need to unlock my boot loader?
Thanks so much for all of the time and effort.
As another user mentioned the stock kernel you are using doesn't allow you to use a custom boot animation. You will have to unlock your boot loader in order to flash a custom kernel that allows you to change the boot animation.

Just make sure the kernel you flash is for your carrier and either touch wiz or aosp. If you're stock rooted it will be touch wiz. Just look through the development forums and find what works best for you. Right now I'm on bonestock rom with stock kernel but I really like Zeus kernel as well.

Boot animation not working

I made a boot animation, and tried installing it using various methods. First I copied the bootanimation.zip to /system/media. Phone booted fine, but it only showed the Google boot logo (not my animation). I also tried copying it to /data/local, same results. I tried making a flashable zip, but when I tried flashing it in CWM it just said "Installing update… Installation aborted." I have also tried flashing the same animation on the Moto G with same methods, and same results.
What am I doing wrong?
Did you make the zip without compression? It can't be compressed.

I guess you didn't sign your zip file.
I always use the same structure for my boot animation so here are the differences with yours. Some of them don't matter though.
1. Into your zip, you have a folder bootanimation => you should directly have your partX folders and desc.txt
2. What is .DS_Store?
3. Naming:
part0 => 000.png / 001.png / 002.png....
part1 => 003.png / 004.png / 005.png....
4. desc.txt:
Code:
1080 1920 15
p 1 5 android
p 0 0 part1
Replace "android" by "part0"
BTW the second number is the delay between loops (in milliseconds) so "5" seems useless.

Thanks for the feedback! I tried changing the structure of the zip file as you suggested, same results. DS_Store is an annoying hidden file Mac OS makes, I deleted it. I also changed the desc.txt. Still not working.
Would signing the zip make a difference?

It works now on my phone. I removed several png files (for testing purpose) because I resized them to 1080x1920.
I also changed desc.txt and removed DS_store file.
Copy this zip file into /system/media/ with 0644. Reboot.
