Is there anyway to change the startup boot logo on the Samsung Infuse? I've seen a few threads but all seem to be limited to a few phones.
Go to /system/media with root explorer and replace sanim.zip with whatever boot animation you want....must be named sanim.zip tho
Heres the one ive been using

Depending on the Rom it will be sanim.zip or bootsnimation.zip located in system/media
Actually it depends on the kernel...if your running infusion kernel name it sanim. Zip....if your running entropys name it bootanimation.zip

I've changed the boot animation, I was speaking to the Samsung that comes up before the boot animation.
Go to system/media and delete bootsamsungloop.qmg....

So after i delete bootsamsungloop.qmg , do i replace it with what I want but with the same name?
No...unless u know how to make a qmg file ....I don't...just put bootanimation.zip in system/media and rename to sanim.zip
ALL HAIL *Z*E*U*S* !
nope that's not it. its in either the bootloaders or param.ifs or both(its both on gb for the i9000 they play back to back seemlessly) need a good dev to open it up and replace the file. there may be tutorials somewhere but you really don't want to mess with either if you can avoid it.
edit: oh wait I never tried the Samsung loop thing, I could be wrong. maybe. but probably not, ususally there is one .qmg for boot and one for shutdown but the infuse has none for shutdown and apparently two for boot.
Probably right...I have never tried to delete the file....I like it really...it let's me know I'm booting up...ha!

How about the two logos before the boot animation, the SAMSUNG and Cyanogen(mod) logos? Can those be tailored?

Hi,
i just flashed cognition 4 to my captivate and i want to get a custom boot animation on it but i can't find the default one in my phone using root explorer. Is it in a different place on cognition 4? Thanks
According to the actual ROM features for Cognition 4.3.1:
- Boot animation customizable (disables boot sound)
Question is, where is the bootanimation.zip on this ROM?
I tried searching for it through Root Explorer but couldn't find it at the /data/local folder.
I also tried within the /system/media folder and I did find a bootsamsung.qmp, bootsamsungloop.qmg, which I guess are the stock samsung animations for the boot screen.
How to change the boot screen on Cognition 4.3?
I would also like to know how to change the boot animation on cognition 4. I have been all over the forum but cannot find any helpful information.
Custom Boot Animation
All you have to do is put the "bootanimation.zip" file directly into the system/media folder. It will overwrite the default animation.
You can also change the shutdown animation by replacing the "shutdown" folder in system/media/video. (For example, check out this mod... Download the shutdown.zip, extract it, then replace the existing system/media/video/shutdown folder with it.)
That would normally work but it isn't working for 4.3.1 cog, because there is no zip to replace.

It doesn't matter that you're not replacing an existing bootanimation.zip. Just stick it in there anyway and it should work. It worked for me.
How do i install the boot animation found in this location http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-themes/54582-droid-x-boot-animation-blue-color-edited-me.html on my samsung captivate running official froyo (KB1). I have flashed the voodoo lagfix injected kernel too. Is the method of copying the bootanimation.zip to /system/media going to work? If it will work then i see two files under /system/media. one is called bootsamsung.qmg and another one called bootsamsungloop.qmg. if i paste the custom bootanimation.zip within this folder without removing these two .qmg files then what will happen? i will see two boot animations after at&t logo? or it will simply not work? Can someone please guide me on this?

Hey guys, I have been told to post this here as I have not made enough posts..
I tried to change my boot animation, by placing the bootanimation.zip file in both /system/media and /data/local and all still plays the Samsung boot logo although with no sound.. So searched through the forums here and everyone tells you that you need a custom rom to get it to work if your phone has the /system/media/bootsamsung.qmg file...
I then cooked a package from romkitchen and installed that but have the same issue, even though I can see the bootanimation.zip file in /system/media/ I can also still see the bootsamsung.qmg as well.
I have only just got this phone about a week ago, so have searched thoroughly, in case I was missing something but i don't think I am..
Can someone help me with what’s going on?
No one able to help me with this one?
Hm you should easily be able to change bootanimation with the rom kitchen.
Remember that you can not change the white text at the beginning of the boot.
I think the files stay there, they dont get removed, just another one gets used if its present, if not the stock animation will be used.

Thanks for the reply,
I'm not sure if this helps, I have cooked a new one today and applied and it said to keep this log incase I have issues.

I can see the file is in the folder, it just does not seem to take affect.
I am assuming that people have got these working on i9000's before and it's just me..
I still have not managed to get this working, starting to think that I am tripping..
All it seems to do is kill the samsung boot sound.
Anyone else got any ideas?

Do you use a stock rom?
This probably doesn't work because your android is not looking for the bootanimation.zip.
Custom ROMs have a modded start up script which tells the system to look for the .zip file.
I am using a rom from rom kitchen..
I have changed it again since I made post above but still a custom rom..

Did you try downloading a new wipe rom with a different bootanimation build in from start?
Yes, wipe rom, Hardcore's Kernel, boot animation, and everything else is prittly much the default setting in rom kitchen

Did you delete the boot animation file out of system/media,&put the new animation zip AND rename it to the same name as the one you deleted?
Sent from my EVO 4G using XDA Premium App
I have tried selecting the bootanimation from RK, and also downloading one from elsewhere and replacing the one that is there.
Both have the same effect..
Weird,I had trouble switching mine too. The only way I've been able to do it is using the app called File Explorer. It's like 10 dollars on the market, but I found it for free. I put the new zip on my card, then file explorer/system/media, delete the boot animation zip, paste the new zip & rename it to the name of the zip that was there. It's worked every time. Flashing a new splash screen is a little different....
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I will try this again now and see how i go..
Just to clarify the splash screen is the white text right?
I am not trying to change that just the colored samsung animation.
The splash screen is the first screen you see when you turn your phone on. It doesn't move, & most often just says the name of the phone. Then the boot animation comes on, it moves & plays some kind of music. Do you have file explorer? If not, don't buy it,I can help you get it for free.

I have Root Explorer that I use to access that location.
I have tried another bootanimation from this spot -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905538
I tried both of the sizes for the AndroidParticles2 and set the permissions to rw-r-r
(Renaming to bootanimations.zip and placing in system\media)
but still the samething happens.
Yeah, my bad,I meant Root Explorer. But it had to be bootanimation.zip take the s off
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Sorry typo, I don't have the s on my i9000.
Well that's how I change mine. I did download a particle ring android (blue) and couldn't get it to work right. Seems to me like you're doing everything right. There's one other option I know of. Download a free program called android flasher.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638
You should be able to flash boot animations & splash screens with no problem. It is a .rar, so if you don't have the program you'll need to download winrar or something similar to extract & install the files. Google it, the program is free.

Thanks for your help today, at least I know now that I wasn't just doing something stupid.
Does anybody know an easy way to disable the shutdown animation? I know that you can disable the startup animation by browsing to /system/media and renaming bootsamsung.qmg to bootsamsung.qmg.bak.
I don't see where they stash the shutdown animation.
Post questions in q&a.
Its in /system/media/video/shutdown you should be able to rename or delete the folder.
Edit: I'm on tw4 ep1w but it should be the same on other roms.

Try setting your Window Animation in Spareparts to fast. That disables it in Gummy GBE.

It's in /system/media/video/shutdown/
I just did this as well. The best thing to do is create a new folder and move the images in the shutdown folder to the new one. It will rid you of the animation and you can easily copy and paste the images back to the folder if you ever want it back. It'll save you from having to reflash the rom to get it back.

Thanks guys. I just renamed the file with a .bak on the end, it worked perfectly.
Now if I can only get rid of the Verizon branding without damaging the phone... and/or Samsung logo.
Old thread but not working for me. Someone else posted about this and will check there to see if they found another solution. Well it actually did work. Guess I will search now to make it boot faster.
I have been searching on xda for some time now and here is a question. I am looking to change my bootanimation on the s3 as I am not happy with the verizon animation. When I had the droid bionic, all I had to do was change the name of the animation in system/media and place the new one and change accordingly. I saw two posts in here that did not exactly answer the question completely. If I flash an animation with cwm do I need to rename or move anything in system/media beforehand? Can the animation be extracted and just placed in the system/media folder? What is the best way to do this? I am rooted, stock with frozen bloat and some inverted gapps.
If you are rooted, you can use ROM Manager to change your boot animation quickly.
I have tried with rom toolbox however it did not work and I believe it mentioned something in rom toolbox about how it will not change if samsung uses a qmg format. Basically, I am asking for directions on how to change the boot animation once I have the new bootanimation.zip on my sd card. Is it even possible on the stock rooted s3?
I just used rom toolbox, found the one I wanted and installed it. Then went to recovery and flashed it, it showed an error, but I just left it alone and rebooted, and now I have a dancing droid! I would also recommend buying the full version so you can use the randomizer, its a fun feature.

I have the full version but changing the boot animation definitely does not work on a rooted stock ROM setup.
The bootanimation.zip support is dependent on a custom kernel on Samsung devices. In stock form only .qmg format will play. No one to this point can edit or create .qmg files, they are proprietary to Samsung devices and their Bada OS. If you want to change it you will need to flash imnuts' lean kernel (assuming you are stock rooted as it is a touchwiz kernel). On a side note i personally think the boot animation from the droid charge is pretty BA and is floating around the net in .qmg format, don't know if it would work or not though due to differences in screen resolution. Here it is if you want to give it a try, just unzip and rename/paste the files where they need to go. It also has audio, place in system/media/audio/ui.

Like i said,i have no clue if it will actually work or not but you could try ..... or just flash the kernel and use whatever lol. It's not my fault if it breaks stuff. Sorry for the long winded answer.

Thank you. I just changed the animation to the stock Samsung one that I believe came on the i9300. Nothing special, but it is 100 times better than that Verizon boot animation.
Did you flash the zip file in recovery? If you use the randomizer I don't think you have to flash the zip though.

I did the same thing. I also swapped the PowerOn.ogg and PowerOff.ogg files for files with no sounds so the boot up and shutdown are now quiet. The replacement audio files may be found in this thread.

You can edit the .qmg files. You have to use Samsung's Theme Designer to view the .pngs. From there, you can edit the bootanimation how you like.
can the png sequence be extracted now? I wrote off using the theme designer a long time ago because i could not extract them

I presumed that if elreyden was able to change the animation to the i9300 stock one, that I should be able to do it also. The animation that he refers to won't work with a stock rom (contains jpg, not qmg files), hence my confusion. I thought I must have had found the wrong link.

Not sure what your particular situation is, but try putting the bootanimation.zip (not a flashable file. If you have one of those, extract the bootanimation.zip) to /data/local/ instead.
Tried it and it didn't work. I've given up - there doesn't seem to be a solution for stock rom. I will wait and probably flash a rom when they've had a chance to get solid.

I'm on a stock rom and changed my VZW animation to the I9300 w/o any real problem, other than locating the qmg files. I've included to 2 files that I used in the attached zip so you should have it pretty easy To use them simply extract the files and put them into the /system/media folder using Root Explorer or whatever root based file utility you prefer. I simply renamed my existing versions and then copied these into the folder and made sure the permissions were the same. Once done I rebooted and the VZW version was nowhere to be seen.
It's also possible to replace the audio files. I wound up using "empty" files so I no longer have to listen to startup/shutdown sounds either. :good:
ETA: Here's the link to the thread with the silent startup & shutdown sounds. Scroll down to post #9.
