How to change boot animation on cm10? - General Questions and Answers

Hey guys,
I have two devices, an Atrix 4G running Epinter's Cm10 and a ASUS TF300T running a Cm10 nightly. In earlier builds of Cm10 I was able to change the boot animation to the Galaxy nexus Jellybean boot animation I downloaded by moving the new bootanimation.zip to /system/media... but since updating to newer nightlies of cm10 pasting the bootanimation.zip I downloaded into /system/media (deleting the old one first) doesn't work.
The cm10 boot animation is gone, but now it just says "android" for the boot animation... which I guess is a new default boot animation? I know in the past if you deleted bootanimation.zip it was just a blank screen.
On http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32749-new-cm10-boot-animation-issues/ blaineevans said you have to change the permissions to (rw-r--r--). Not entirely sure what that means. It looks like you are supposed to take off permissions? But /system/media/bootanimation.zip has no permissions on it. (root explorer lite)

[BOOT ANIMATION] Stock CM6/Froyo boot animation

Finally figured it out. Here is the stock froyo/cm6 boot animation that you see on the current CM6 nightly build.
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/customize/resource
Make sure to make a backup of the current boot animation first, or have a nandroid available just in case.
seems your zip is incomplete. Ive never seen a 26 KB boot animation
It's a small animation. Works fine on my phone.
"/system/customize/resource"
is the path for CM6?
i dont even see this directory.

I'm using Slim Bean 4.2.2, and I'd love to have Samsung boot animation back

Just dig around on this forum, in any of the boot animation threads. If it's just the bootanimation.zip, then DL it and place it on your SD card. Go into system/media and rename the bootanimation that's already there to "bootanimation.zip.bak." Now, move the bootanimation.zip that you placed on your SD card to the system/media folder and set perms to rw-r-r.
Sometimes, the bootanimation is packaged into a flashable zip. In this case, extract the zip. After it's extracted, go into data/local and the bootanimation.zip is there. Copy this to your external SD and use the same procedures as above. I prefer copying and pasting the zip, over flashing it because sometimes the flashable zip doesn't work on every device.

[Q] Lost boot animation after nandroid backup

Hey all,
Long time follower but first post! Im running synergy r326 with ktoonz kernel and everything has been running mostly excellent until I did a nandroid backup from clockwork last night. All I did was the back up and now my boot animation is gone. I also tried manually putting one by renaming the zip file "bootanimation.zip" (only one .zip) and putting it in /data/local/ but no dice. Plus there isn't any file in there named bootanimation to begin with. Any ideas? Thanks eveyone!
Try looking in System/Media. That's where it is in Beans rom so maybe it's there for Synergy. Make sure you add ".bak" to the preexisting boot animation if it's there and set permissions for your new boot animation.

[Q] How to change bootanimation on sabsa prime?

Hi All,
I have Sabsa prime 15.0 on my saga and I want to change my bootanimation.
Usually I see people doing that by moving a bootanimation.zip to either /data/local or /system/customize/resource
My original bootanimation was in /system/customize/resource, so I replaced that one with my new bootanimation.
System was mounted as writable, and permissions are set.
However, my bootanimation is not showing up. I have no bootanimation at all.
What am I doing wrong here? Does the new bootanimation need to be in another location?

You cannot change the ba just like that, you need a third party app like boot animations or rom toolbox to change the files etc. I'm not sure I'm right but it works for me on all roms I use
I see only a way to enable/disable boot animation. Not flash a new one. Is that correct?

No, there should be different bootanimations to choose from and install or an option to choose the zip file of a custom bootanimation on this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...mNvbS5qcnVtbXkuYXBwcy5ib290LmFuaW1hdGlvbnMiXQ..
Ok that one works indd Thx for your help ifti768!
No problem
