[Q] Confused by Unibody Phones (Example HTC One) - General Questions and Answers

Can someone please answer this for me? If you have a mobile phone where the back of the phone isn't removable so you can get to the battery, how do you reset the phone when it hard locks up? Is there like a pin hole you use to reset it like you did back in the day to eject diskettes?

depends on the device, with my nexus 4 holding the power button down for around 10 seconds it will restart much like a computer would

Yep its usually a physical button that needs to be pressed for x amount of seconds or even a combination of buttons for a varied amount of time to do a hard reset.

While it does appear that just holding the power button isn't the same as a battery pull, it actually is. There is a chip that detects when the button has been pressed and it cuts the power to the whole system. Atleast that is how it is on my nexus r

In the HTC One X (which I own) I believe you hold the power button and volume button at the same time for 10-15 seconds. Phone has never frozen though or given me reason for a battery "pull"

[Q] can't get into bootloader.

Am I doing something wrong I have had many android phones, and this is giving me trouble. I tried holding power and down volume rocker and the screen just stays dark. I also turned off fast boot. Any tips.

Sorry wrong section.

A bit harder than on for example the desire. Try holding it down for longer or uncheck quick boot in settings. Only got it to work once, now I usually just adb reboot recovery from command line on PC or use the reboot to recovery option on shutdown menu (Leedroid)
Yeah its abut weird basically switch of phone completely then press power you will feel a vibrate then quickly start holding down vol down button or switch on and keep holding power and volume and release every few secs how I do it hope it helps

You don't really have to hold Power for long. If you hold it for a period of time, you will see the capacitive buttons light up meaning it's going to force a restart. Hold Volume Down the entire time though.

[Q] Motorola XT720 unresponsive with black screen

Hey,
my XT720 just stopped working a couple weeks ago. When I leave it plugged in for about twenty minutes the four lights at the bottom of the phone light up but the screen stays blank. I've looked at all the other posts and tried getting into bootloader to flash it using RSD Lite but i can't get it into bootloader. I got a new battery and that didn't do anything either. Are there any other methods or am I trying to get into bootloader the wrong way- I've been doing Power button + Volume Down + Camera button. Any help would be great.
Hardware issue not much you can do unfortunately.

The four lights on with black screen happens on xt720 when the battery is extremely low. It could be that your battery is old. Plug it in the wall with the back panel off. Let it charge while keeping an eye on the screen. Whenever it decides to start booting, pull the battery out and start again. Keep doing this for about two hours. This used to happen to me enough when I was experimenting that I just got an external battery charger.

What if I never had an SD card in the first place? When I ordered it, it didn't come with one so I left a lot of memory to the phone's internal drive. Would buying one help? And if so, what product would you suggest?

I tried that too but no luck. Plus I already ordered a new battery and those come in at least half charged so it must be something else.
Have you ever been into the bootloader on your phone? You have to get the keys really, really fast. Particularly when powering on by putting in the battery. If you haven't already try it this way:
1. Remove battery, disconnect USB
2. Press and hold both the camera (the shutter one) and volume down keys
3. Keep holding them down
4. Put in battery (keep holding the buttons down)
5. Keep holding the buttons down until you see either the fastboot screen or the (M) logo (or you give up after 5 minutes)

HTC Sensation Suddenly Died!!!

Hi,
Im the proud owner of a HTC Sensation, bought it quite cheap and for what its done its awesome.
Got my bootloader unlocked by HTC, and rooted, nothing else.
It has been working for almost 4 months like that! without any problems.
Today however i am pissed....
I was using Gmail App with Winamp playing, and when i tried to leave Gmail app the phone crashed, couldnt do anything but music kept going...
had to remove battery!
everything started good again, and i was playing music and using dolphin browser....this time i got an message that Gmail crashed.....and phone crashed after again. this time music stopped playing and only music noise continued played....only the same tone...
now phone is dead...had it without battery, SIM card and SD card for about 20 minutes, nothing, recharged it for about 2 hours...nothing, cant turn it on....POWER+ Volume up or volume down does nothing as well....if i connect to usb i get nothing detected...
anyone has some trick?...
probably will get away with warranty...will see....
Try another battery and charger first. A software problem, crash can not lead to hardware failure

Hi
Did you removed the batter before you pressed and hold volume down + power button
Remove and reinsert battery, press and hold volume down + power button until phone boots
Try charging you phone over night and check
Does the orange LED glow when you plug you phone to charger
Hit the thanks button if you find Mr helpful

phone is completely dead!
no orange light nothing...
removed battery, waited a few minutes put again, POWER + Volume up or down, nothing does anything...will try charger and battery from a friend tonight.
I also think a software crash wont kill the phone...but its strange that crashed first in Gmail app and second time also it was the Gmail APP...
But i also had the phone rooted... don't know if by some means could have corrupted the memory...
Will update later.
You will have to press and hold power and volume down button together for some time till phone boots
HIT THE THANKS BUTTON IF YOU FIND ME HELPFUL

Just held it for about 5 minutes....nothing......
also seems battery has 3.9V with a multimeter...should be good , anyway will try at night with a good one.

Phone restarts if I hold the power button.

I'm coming from an gs3 where this wasn't an issue. Is this a "feature" I'm stuck with? Aka can I get rid of it via some option, rooting, or is it hard wired in, and I'm going to hate the **** out of this phone?
I cant say I have ever held the power button to see if that happens. Why are you holding it so much?

Almost any phone on any rom will restart if you hold the power button long enough. I'm also confused why your holding the power button down so long...
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
New case, different sized phone than I'm used to. More important, it is a sensative button, so stuff in my pocket sitting against it restarts it.+
. And it is only a ten second hold to pop to reboot. so basically if I'm holding it wrong while talking (it is where I would normally hold my thumb) or if I just wrap my hand around it it pops.

Phone Won't stay On

My Nexus 5 just crapped out.
Phone constantly reboots every second.
It turns on, shows the Google splash screen, then turns off, then Google Splash screen then turns off.
It happens very quickly stays on the splash screen for about 1 second then turns off.
If I hold down the Volume Down button, it shows the Bootloader for 1 second or less then shuts down.
If I hold the power button long enough it'll turn off. Now ANY power source plugged in or a QI Charger, it'll turn on and keep powering off and on and off and on again.
Now it actually won't turn back on without any power source. Not sure if it's out of battery or not, but it's not helping, since if I plug it in, it turns on then turns off right away, over and over and over and over again. No way to charge it like normal.
Anyone have any ideas? It's running stock with xposed mod.
I've never had this happen of all the Nexus phones I've had and others.
Phone was working fine today then I went to open the camera and it rebooted and then this.
Wow, yup just I suspect, I think power button is messed up.
I have a rubberized case on it, if I tilt it sideways with power button facing down, and just keep banging the side of the Nexus 5 on the table, it will power up and boot up properly.
Once I stop, power menus shows up and or it'll hard reboot.
The power button itself doesn't feel broken, when I press it I can feel it being pressed.
Now I have to figure out how I can wipe and lock the bootloader while doing this....

Nope. the case has holes for the buttons.
Speaking to Google now, they're going to do a warranty replacement.
