I just spent a couple hours yesterday writing an in-depth article about the possibilities of a Verizon iPhone.
http://jonsuh.com/2010/09/verizon-iphone-more-proof-than-ever/
Now, AT&T and Verizon are both working to convert their networks to LTE (Long Term Evolution). Verizon is planning to begin rolling out LTE to 30 large cities by the end of 2010 while AT&T by mid 2011 (the first city for AT&T’s LTE is said to be Dallas).
The iPhone 4 uses a micro SIM card. LTE technology is said to require a micro SIM card as well. Pictures of a Verizon 4G LTE SIM was released by Engadget earlier in July.
If there was ever a time in the history of a possible Verizon iPhone, it’s now.

So what do you think? How possible do you think a Verizon iPhone is? Would you even want one?

I'm trolling? I was responding to a troll, but of course, in XDA fashion, anti-Apple trolls are not trolls at all.
But to add to the thread, I think that it's possible but there are certainly going to be some conflicts between Apple and Verizon. AT&T got on its knees for Apple but Verizon will not do the same. Like most of their other phones, they will want a ton of control of over the software; something that Apple will simply not allow. Overall though, they both definitely want in on each other and it's only a matter of time.
Would I want one? No. Verizon would probably price the iPhone even higher than AT&T currently does. In a perfect world I'd want a jail broken iPhone 4 w/ WiMax on Sprint's amazing $59.99 EPRP + $10 plan.
FWIW, I'm a current dual EVO 4G and iPhone 4 owner.

Many people misunderstand me when I tell them I want an iPhone. They automatically assume it's because an an Apple fanboy or I want to be another one to jump on the bandwagon.
Truthfully, I'm rather disappointed with some of the app development with Android; maybe I need to be patient.
Some simple truths are (at least in my opinion)
The todo and productivity apps on Android suck. The only apps that would come close would be Astrid, but even then, it doesn't even touch Appigo's ToDo or Cultured Code's Things.
I'm on Facebook a lot and the Facebook app sucks. I don't think many would disagree with me on that one.
I do not like the Android Market setup. I realize one of the hate topics for Apple is the "control" over their apps. Yes, Apple does seemingly have a tight grip on their app store; however, when I try and browse for apps on the Android Market, I have to scroll through 75% garbage, trash, worthless crap. I waste more time shuffling through crap! Unless I know the actual name of the app, it's a huge time waster to come across new apps.
With all these new Android phones out, sometimes it's like pulling tooth and nails to get the latest OS update. One thing Apple does right is push the latest OS to practically all the devices, with the exception of some of the 1st and 2nd generation ones (which they have served their time). Unlike, for example, the Eris, which didn't even last ONE YEAR on the market, didn't get 1.6 and now is not going to get 2.2.
Do I love the fact that I have control over my phone? I guess? I mean I know enough to customize the image files on apps to customize the look, root and flash custom ROMs, run adb cmds on my phone, what more control do I need? Does it help me be more productive and is my phone more of a smartphone because I do? Not really. It's cooler, faster, and customized, but other than that, it does what every other smart phone does. Get e-mail, surf the web.
I had an iPod Touch with the productivity apps, but it became cumbersome to carry both my Touch and my phone and not having a constant internet access on my Touch became more of a nuisance.
I guess it's because I have a specific workflow, and the iPhone tends to be friendlier with it with the kind of apps and functionality it provides.
I'm not slamming Android; I'm not praising the iPhone. It's just my personal preference.
What would piss me off is VZW releasing the iphone before giving WP7 a chance.
good day.

I was asking an honest question, there is nothing an Iphone does that is usable that my Nexus One does not, not for myself anyway and I do not have to deal with the BS that comes with owning an apple product.

edit: nm not worth it.
Honestly I kind of hope they do get the iPhone on Verizon. I'm sick of hearing people trash At&t and their "****ty" service. I for one have not had any problems, and have noticed that it's the people with the iPhones that are complaining about At&t's service. You wanna know why the service/reception is so bad? It's cause there's MILLIONS of people using the same damn phone and it causes network traffic. The iPhone is At&t's number 1 phone and priority so, of course, they get dibs. So when there's millions of people trying to do FaceTime or YouTube or whatever, of course it's not gonnna be SUPER fast. I just wanna see Verizon try to handle what the iPhone will do to their network and see how they handle the traffic, etc. etc. Then people will realize it's really all the phones causing traffic and not the network.
verizon will get the iPhone with LTE, and when their new network launches they will launch the LTE iPhone along with it. No sooner, no later.
Verizon iPhone
Well i don't know if the Verizon iPhone is possible or not, a lot of blogs and analysts are saying they are in production.

This is old news, regarding Oracle. That article would make you think Android is about to crumble, and that is not the case. At least he points out that re-writing the code, slightly, would make this go away.
Google has way too much power/$ to not fix this for Android, which has exceeded their expectations wildly.
In short, do not fret. Apple just being scared, as they should be.
Just like Jobs said recently via an email that Android is tracking people and that they do not.... ignoring all the articles about apple tracking people lately.
EDIT, haha, just noticed he said Symbian would likely benefit (which is dead).... sad considering how much Nokia stock I own (frown face)
The iphone makes up 50% of Apples revenue stream now so Android is a massive threat to their business. Totally idiotic for a company or that size to have most of their eggs in one basket if you ask me.
Personally i think competition is good and keeps the market honest, but all this patent trolling that's going on is just ludicrous. It's no better than kids fighting over marbles in the playground.

How can you compare a hardware/software vendor to a software vendor?
When google is able to claim it makes the hardware its software runs on, then you can start saying Android is a "threat" to apple.
Google and Apple are entirely different beasts. Apple makes money when it sells its hardware, it includes the software "free" with its devices and it has always done this with any of its products.
Google makes software for multiple vendors, and makes zero hardware.
Apple has always been pretty sue-happy, moreso than other phone/computer manufacturers.

i would like to add 1 small piece to this although apple are a hardwar/software vendor it does contract out to people like samsung , so this apple google is also apple samsung writ , android and samsung together is a bigger threat to apple and apple think by sueing (as most companys do and would do in the same situation) both samsung and google may slow them down or as is most likely with the release of all the new smartphones ie galaxy s 2 and new nexus phones will generate a feelling within buyers that apple sell a better product because others are copying , this is not a serious attempt to stop android but with the timing so close to may first release date for sgs2 is more of a marketing exercise , for instance when google lost a case recently they had to pay 5 million $ where as if they had payed for the licence out right may have cost them 50 million $ dont take these figures to seriously but you get the idea this is the way business works and will carry on working as has been said before apple will still buy from samsung google will still develop android licences will be paid for in one form or another and someone will use somebody elses idea to improve their own and tommorrow will be another day
Thank you for the information.

Sort of, it's powered by google as all android phones are, but it isn't MADE by google, it is made by HTC, and the Nexus S is made by Samsung. Google works with the companies closely for these phones, but the phones themselves are not manufactured by google, and I'd be willing to bet google doesn't design the phones and pic the internal components to them either so much, they probably have some influence, but I'd be surprised if they had complete control when it is the manufacturer who stands to make or lose money on the phone based on sales.
5yrs behind again? When can Android finally overthrone iOS?
Now Google and Microsoft are jealous.

I would say it is, yes. But it also shows something else: The power of Apple marketing. Siri used to be an app in the store, and nothing. Then Apple buys the company, touts Siri as some "revolutionary" thing they created, and look at what's happening - suddenly Siri is the best thing since sliced bread and all other vendors should fear it. Yeah right. If you ask me, Siri is a fad that will quickly blow over. Even with Apple's marketing.
Joke, may be you haven't seen the power of SIRI, it is just I always see my sister talking to her phone and she said it is very useful especially when sending email, he will just say "send mike an email, Can you put up the dialyzer so I can start to dialyze when I got there tomorrow" she does not need to go in the mail app, look for the email addresss, click on the message box and type the message, same as text, I think it is not that useful, but now that I saw my sister doing that, I think I might sell my Infuse 4g and try the 4s, come on I did not post this to hurt your egos which now obviously hurt because you bought an Android device, I too bought Infuse 4g but I am open on any device that will benefit me.
The difference between me and some guys here, I am open minded on what will benefit me, and some guys defend Android like it is their company and want to beat Apple, Rim, and Window phone 7. And they don't want to let people speak that they made a mistake buying Android or they just love their android.

totally agree with this post. Until google puts more thought into the UX it will be behind imo. It has all the features but they're so haphazardly tossed together that using it is a chore.
As much as it is kinda cool in the right situations I see this being just another reason to own a cell signal jamming box. People are already rude enough to make a call while in speaker phone.

I sure hope SIRI isn't submitting your posts, because if that's the case it's completely worthless.
You do realize SIRI is just an app right? If you think an app can put apple 5 years ahead of android, none of your posts should be taken seriously. In my opinion, the SUPERUSER app puts android infinitely ahead of apple. Android has personal assistant apps, and I am quite sure the developers will be working hard on them now. Apple has nothing to the likes of Superuser and never will.

If this ever happens i would rather go back to a flip phone or have none at all. I would never give apple any of my money.
I refuse to get an Apple device, but this won't effect available devices in stock or on eBay, so good Android devices will be very rare if this goes the way Apple wants... I'll tell you one thing, eBay prices for Android Devices will go sky high.... (used or not...)
Edit: I miss flip phones anyways, so I'll go old school if I have to...
i have an ipad, and this makes me want to smash it. Apple, you do not own the world, you were not the first to create a "list" on an electronic device. If your so afraid of Samsung, then just build a darn phone with a bigger screen, i wont buy it, but tons of other people would. Fair competition is good for business, it keeps ingenuity alive and keeps engineers pushing the limits of what can be done. Competition is THE ONLY REASON we have the superphones we have now. If apple owns all the rights to make anything that even resembles a smartphone, we will have the iphone 4s renamed and sold as a new product for the next decade.
Whoever the judge is that granted that patent, is an idiot.
it will never happen. Nothing to add.
Well some of what this says they currently have rights to like list view is bs because before the first iPhone was released I was able to use list view on Windows mobile for years. So unless I've miss read, something isn't right or maybe my aging memory is wrong.

Android is here to stay. Google and samsung have some pretty good lawyers too. It's total BS that this kinda stuff even goes on. The only people getting rich on this are the lawyers. If they were smart, they'd sit across from each other at a conference table and make a truce and move on.
Now that Jobs is dead, it's just a matter of time before Apple slips into irrelevance. Nobody there has the passion he had about his company, and nobody is gonna defend it like he did.
That 40 billion they have will be squandered away on bogus patent law suits. Money that could have been spent on more cutting edge development. Everybody knows that patents are crap. Your better off not even applying for a patent and get the thing to market first. By the time they figure out what you did, you come up with something new. A patent application is an invitation and a headstart for everybody else to steal your idea. The company thats ahead of the development curve, and gets it to market fast and furious, makes the money.
Boo hoo...they stole my idea:crying:
Apple is a joke. This is what happens when they feel threaten by a competitor. I will give it to Apple the iPhone was a brake through, but since then Android came out and is user friendly with developers willing to make the devices better and faster more customizable. Making the Android OS just better period. Apple needs to realize there are other players in this game so step up as Android HAS. First off, I searched the forums to see if anybody has really discussed what seems to be a one-sided trial and I haven't really found anything. So I ask this question because I am a little confused on the matter...
If you have been following the news lately, you would see that the samsung vs. apple case has begun. Barely two days into it samsung releases evidence of designs that predate the iphone which look kind of similar. Apparently this "key" evidence was rejected by Judge Koh on the basis that it is irrelevant. You can google search the facts about this but here is one link http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2407919,00.asp
Now, I am no legal expert and just taking a quick glance and seeing the evidence and hearing that it was rejected by the judge makes no sense right now. It angered me to think that samsung wasn't given a fair chance to provide evidence that seems clearly relevant to why this whole trial is even taking place. But I figured I should withhold judgment until I learn all the facts because like I said, I am no expert on legal matters and I know there is two sides of the story.
My question is, is there a good reason as to why the judge threw evidence out like this? A lot of people are claiming the judge is being payed by apple but I'm not going to quickly jump to that conclusion. I am wondering if there are any fellow xda people out there that have some experience in law or know a lot about this case and can elaborate as to why this has happened. I want to know if it is unfair to jump to the assumption that apple is somehow pulling strings behind the scenes.
I'd prefer people with a decent amount of knowledge in this case speak up and not people who have read a few articles and think they know all about it.
If it's one thing I'm really starting to learn, it's that all these tech sites seem to have a bias towards them. I see some sites blatantly ignoring and even sometimes lying about android and it's features, usabillity, etc. So I'd rather get advice, experience, opinions from people who at least know what they're talking about.
Update Now Apple is asking for judge to punish samsung for releasing public documents to the press
http://www.computerworld.com/s/arti...amsung_for_releasing_documents_in_iPhone_suit
I'm pretty sure that evidence was thrown out because it was entered too late by Samsung (there's a cut-off date after which no new evidence may be entered for consideration, since both parties must get some time to go over it and decide how to deal with it).
But yeah, unfortunately I think Samsung is gonna get screwed on this one. Apple seems pretty good at deceiving juries and judges (especially certain ones) into believing that they invented everything in existence. I just hope it doesn't end too badly for Samsung, as their phones are probably the biggest reason why Android has risen up as a viable competitor to iOS (and even raced right past it in market share). The smartphone world needs that competition. I shudder at the thought of a world where the only real choice is getting an iPhone.

I'm pretty sure that evidence was thrown out because it was entered too late by Samsung (there's a cut-off date after which no new evidence may be entered for consideration, since both parties must get some time to go over it and decide how to deal with it).

Ahhh, I see. Well that makes sense if it there's a deadline and they didn't make it. I will say that I find it pretty strange that they didn't make the deadline with evidence that seems to be pretty damn important.
There are time limits, thought it can still be allowed if it wasn't discovered quickly enough to be submitted. Regardless, every decision made seems to point to clear bias on the point of Koh and higher judges. I've yet to see anything fair and impartial about what's been going on with any of this from the beginning.

Worst case scenario... Apple wins. And also gets to enforce the recent touchscreen patents they were awarded. What does this mean for android? That's what I'm wondering. Although, I really hope this doesn't happen.

Yeah... Richard Posner seems to be one of the only sensible ones. Quoting The Guardian:
The Guardian said:
At one point, for example, Apple claimed that Google was infringing one of its patents on the process of unlocking a phone by swiping the screen. "Apple's argument that a tap is a zero-length swipe," said Posner, "is silly. It's like saying that a point is a zero-length line."

Apple is being silly, and this guy seems to be the only judge who gets that.
Whatever happens, I will hate Apple more than ever. And, if I get a second choice, I will rather get a Windows Phone than an iPhone.

Yeah, if they actually manage to ruin Android (I don't believe they will), I'll go for a Windows Phone a million times before I even look at an iPhone. I never used to actively dislike Apple, I just wasn't very interested in their products, but recently they've really made me think they're a ****ty anti-competitive company that doesn't deserve a cent of my money. I truly hate what they're trying to do to the smartphone market.

I've kind of feel the same. I never really liked apple, although I know they make good products. After lots of research and hands on experience, I've realized iOS sucks compared to android. All it has is smoothness. Android has far more features and is simpler to use in my opinion. What apple really is good at is hype. After all these lawsuits with them suing everybody for what seems like ridiculous things, it's making me really hate the company now.

I wonder why Samsung doesn't try the same thing, if I got some of those new Galaxy products for free I would want Samsung to win.

Because Samsung has some respect which Apple dont have. Thats why Apple is playing such cheap games on Samsung.

I should point out, in the interests of fairness, that despite many of our suspicions regarding bribery or illicit deals there has never been the slightest evidence apple have bought legal rulings by anything other than legitimate and transparent means.

Am i the only one that thinks that the judges are acting like that because apple is considered "All american and genuine" company to them and Samsung is an invading country that want to knock off the "GREAT" american company?
From my experience there are people that are dumb enough to act like that....

This thought has passed through my mind to be honest
However I don't think any of this is as simple as "Apple is American" or "bribery".
It's a broken patent system that Apple is using to try and prolong the inevitable - which is Android taking over the majority of the market for what could be decades. Apple is within their rights to attempt to use their patent portfolio to slow down the competition. This is not debatable. They are using legal means and the current system to attempt to enforce their dominance since they can no longer maintain it with product alone.
Although I am a Samsung fan and a huge supporter of Linux, Android, Google, etc. I cannot get past the picture of the Galaxy SII next to the iPhone. Side by side, it does look like they ripped them off. That is where I believe Samsung screwed up. It's not the functionality/UI patents that are troubling to me, it's the fact they made it look like the iPhone. It's almost undeniable. They encroached on brand recognition, to the point that you can't deny they look very similar. Too similar.
In my opinion, that will be the cause of Samsung's defeat. Everyone says "you can't patent rectangles or the color spectrum". But you can't rip off someone's design either. And they did, pretty plainly IMO. Why do you think there are no Black GSIII's? Samsung knows what they did, and they didn't want to risk it with their new flagship.
As far as software patents, Apply can kiss my ass. But they have the right for their product to look unique. No matter who designed something similar back in the day. No one sees a black, rectangular phone with a huge slab of glass and says "hey, that's that Sony phone prototype!". But any average person, even an elderly person who doesn't much follow tech, definitely recognize an iPhone. Unless of course, it's next to a black Galaxy SII.
Just my two cents.

Samsung didn't copy the iphone though, they actually had iphone like designs the year before iphone was made public.
Are you saying that because apple used that design in public first, even though samsung had a very similar one earlier, that apple should be only one able to have anything similar "no matter who designed something similar back in the day"?

It's the phone itself in combination with the dock, square icons, general "appearance" I'm taking about. I'm sorry but it's really not debatable. It looks like a foreign clone of an iPhone.

If worse comes to worst you know we'll just all switch to buying Chinese android devices. The Chinese system not only ignores Apple's chicanery, but has ruled in favor of several plaintiffs against Apple and allows the phones that truly are copies to be sold freely. I don't in any way foresee it coming to that but it will be a long, long time before Apple ever sees dollar one of my money and I will do whatever I can to keep an Android device in my hands.

You're not getting this. Samsung has shown (to the best of my knowledge the evidence that was tossed by Judge Koh, was legit from Samsung), that they had prior art to this style of design, the apps, the home button, the rounded corners, well before Apple ever went public with the iPhone.
