[Q] Galaxy Note II Clone - Star I8160 software or hardware problems - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi! Please, can anybody help me? The problem: phone Star I8160
I bought 2 piece about a month ago, and day after day, i had problems with it.
First problem: the microphones was absolutely silent, so i heard everybody in the other line, but nobody hears me, just if I'm shouting. Then they hear me, but they was not able to understand my speech continously, just only pieces of my sentences. First, I tried to use the factory defaukts, but nothing changed. In second, with a local mobile repair shop they replace the microphones of the phones. For two days, the phones were good, but today it produces another problems: a loud of the microphones are good, but the speech had problems - the same before. In the other site of my call I can hear everything perfect, but my speech is just arrives in pieces, not continously. It is very frustrating... The phone comes with S3 dandelion wallpaper software, and i noticed, that if i turn it off, a little improvement is coming. Please help me! Is it possible, that because this phone has only 256MB memory Ram, the software cause, that i unable to speak? Is it possible to get some older software to it to check, that maybe that version is working? PLEEEASE help! I not want to send it back, i want to use it! But it must be repaired before do that...

My other half had a N7100 that would do the same thing. It was caused by a tiny bit of makeup from her bag going in to the headphone socket, making the phone think an external source was taking care of microphone duties. Plugging a headset in and out fixed the problem.
I don't know if something similar has happened to your phone but it's worth a shot.

Thanx, but not
Thanx for the info i tried out with the headset microphone, but is is not working too.

Help - First major mic problem in HTC TC

Hi everyone, how are you?
For about a week or so i have been having some problems in my touch cruise.
My mic stop working (more or less). I have been trying to solve it by myself and with some help of forums in my mother language, but even so, i failed.
The problem is this:
When i answer a call, the person in the other side is not able to hear me at all. Only if i shout real loud and if i take the device from my ear and put it right in front of my mouth, they can only hear whisper like sounds.
If i am the one doing the call, it happens the same thing.
If i try to record a voice note or something like it, almost the same thing. i cant hear myself talking. Only in the situation i mentioned above, with the phone in front of my mouth and with me shouting, its possible to ear something.
I have done a hard reset just now and it remains with the same problem
do you know what might be happening? do you recommend some proceeder before i try sending it to be fix?
I bought it online, in expansys (and i'm in Portugal) and they said that i have to contact a company that makes the "fixing" for them (outsourcing services you know). I tried to call them but i didn't got any answer yet.
I know who is the dealer of the HTC brand in my country (Novabase).
Should i contact them directly, should i go first to the other fixing company or should i try some mambojambo in registry or some app that may fix the problem?
Please help me. My phone/pda is (almost) my life. I need it for work (and the amount of money i gave for it does not include problems of any kind )
Thank you in advance and sorry for the HUGE post.
I will be waiting for your guru answers =)
stay cool
up...
please
Unfortunately, it really sounds like a hardware problem, especially you already tried the hard reset. You can confirm this by using the headset. If everything works fine using the headset, then your phone's mic is broken. And if that's the case, sending it in for warranty repair is the only solution.
yeah, you are right. with the wired headset it works (oh, just to think about it, does your headset moves arround insite the jack? it seems loose)
it has to be hardware then. :S
SH*T =( so much money for this :S
thnaks anyway =X
Major mic problem
I've bought 2 HTC TC Cruise and both of them have the same mic problem, so it's supposed to be a quite common issue: suddenly the mic becomes deaf without any apparent reason! I know it maight be an hw problem, but I would avoid the too slow assistance service if possible, does anybody have an idea? Tnx all, bye.
This seems to be a common problem in Touch Cruise. My Mic stopped working and I took a replacement
The Hardware Quality Of Polaris Is Unacceptable Weak!
Just one month ago my Polaris was repaired and shiped back from UK (mainboard replacement in HTC repair center). It was "SIM not found" HW problem.
...and I have now a same MIC problem!
Now I see - I'm not alone, this looks like amplifier chip failure on the switchboard.
THE HARDWARE QUALITY OF POLARIS IS UNACCEPTABLE WEAK!
Im finish spending my time and money on shipment to HTC repair center.
Today I'm using a BT headset and looking for spare parts on web.
Hate the moment I decided to bay this ****!

Problems with front speaker

I have been having some problems with the front speaker lately. Most of the time when I get an incoming call or make a call no sound comes through the front speaker and have to put the loudspeaker on to hear anything. The weird part is that from time to time it works fine usually after using the wired headphones. Oh an the volume is set to max.
Has anyone else had the same problems? How to fix this? could it be that I changed some settings inadvertantly?

Mine did not work at all any more. I even did a hard reset; no change. I have now sent it back to HTC for repairs.

Same here
Mine doesn't work at all.
Wow, I guess we should start a poll where people would select which problems they are experiencing:
1. Wi-Fi
2. BT
3. Front earphone
4. Radio
5. Bad painting
6. Shutting down suddenly
7. None of the above
More than one could be chosen... That would ballpark the size of the problem. Maybe some production batches were messed up due to the hurry from Qualcomm to deliver the already delayed parts? Maybe HTC came to that point where the brand is far larger than is the company's capacity of growing (especially in terms of QA)...

I have the same problem. The wired is that it ocassionally works. Another problem is that FM not always working. I bought the device in German. But now I'm in China. Any one knows how to fix? I don't know how to disassemble it. But I'm curious, maybe some pin is loose?
Same for me, the front speaker didn't work for 48 hours and then worked again I don't even know how
No sound speaker htc touch
I have the same problem, no sound from de phone, when switching to handsfree mode i hear de caller
Hello,
I have the same problem and found that this happened when starting an application that uses only rear speaker or hands free speaker (e.g. Tom Tom, Compe Pocket, etc.)
And the problem is not of that application, the problem is in the phone application of the cruise. I think that these applications mute or power off the front speaker and the phone application don´t activate it.
I have found a solution to this. When making or receiving a call, press many times speaker or hands free button on display and after many times, speaker works again.
Now, I am looking for a new phone application, in order to quit HTC application. Somebody knows a good phone application to use in Cruise????
Many thanks in advance.
My device has been returned today.
Have not had a chance to test it. Will do so when I get home tonight (in 8 hours). I will let you all know if it has been resolved.
As a remark to fran_mad's post; In my case, even after a FULL HARD reset, the speaker did not work.
I therefore do not think it was caused by a software problem.
Kind regards,
Robin

Motherboard has been replaced and all works OK again.
Good and quick service from HTC (free pick-up and delivery within one day)
I am still not sure if I like this one better then my good old sleek, slim and sexy Touch.
no sound from phone speaker
fran_mad's solution did not work for me.
I am affraid it's a hardware thing with me too?
I checked volume, did soft and hard resets (clear storage) but frontside speaker does not work!
HTC technical Support is going to collect my phone tomorrow. I will post my proceedings...
frontside speaker repaired
HTC Techsupport repaired my Touch Cruise within a week. Bravo!
See if it keeps working this time!
Same here. Front speaker started to fail a few times. 1 week later it totally stopped. Was repaired by HTC (EuroTwice.be) in 2 weeks.
Front speaker stopped working after 1 month usage - motherboard replaced by htc within 12 days. But now the device shuts down by itself sometimes - will send it to htc again tomorrow - meanwhile i am very disappointed about my Touch Cruise.

Hi
I have problem with the front speaker.
The sound is "blurry" if i put the caller to rear speaker the sound is crystal clear.
So the problem must be in front speaker??
I search the net but i cant find where to get it?
Is somebody have the front speaker from dead Prophet?

my touch cruise experienced this weird problem since yesterday.i've tried fran_mad's method and and its works!! thanx dude! i'm still figuring why the heck this kind of problem happened as i didnt change any setting on my phone.
Sorry for being clueless but what do you guys mean by "front/rear speakers"? I thought there is only one speaker on the back side of the phone and a universal connector for handsfree - earphones+mic?
There are two speakers, one in front and one on the back. My front speaker died and was repaired by htc - new motherboard. Seems to be a known problem...

Speaker buzzing noise

Does anyone have a problem where the earpiece makes a buzzing or rather high pitch noise when the volume is loud on a call
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I have the same problem on a galaxy s 2.
it is random on calls. not sure if its a signal problem or rather a blown ear speaker. irritating at best, thinking what should I do with it now.

Didi you take it to the service center for this specific issue or for something else ? What did they say about the issue ?
I'm beginning to become obsessed with this issue, so for the past 2 days I've been listening carefully to that noise and it sounds to me that it's not the speaker that's making the noise, but it's like the noise is coming from the phones housing...It's like something's vibrating when the speaker reaches a high pitch sound...
Also, I've been trying to see if my friends have this issue also on other Nexus S and Galaxy S (since it's the same hardware - with some extras ) phones, but this doesn't happen on their phones, however the volume on their phones is a lot lower than mine.

I spoke today with a guy that fixes phones for a living and he told me that the issue is the filter from the earpiece. The phone might've suffered a bump at the store when the people there handled it and that messed with the filter. He said that I can take it to the Samsung service to get it fixed or I can leave it like this... He said it doesn't get worst in time if the issue doesn't get resolved...
this happens on and off with my Nexus S 4g...it drives me insane!!!
I did notice one thing. If I hold the phone kind of tightly and squeeze the backplate to the phone it doesn't make the noise or it makes it less noticeable.

ok.... I do not remember what they have replaced, but i sent them my nexus s i9020T only for the buzzing noise.
They returned me with the same bug.... I've noticed, that when the buzz is in it, little tap on the back of the NEXUS and the noise go away .... it seems....
it could be that it is due for other components not well fixed to the chassis?
In september I will sent my nexus to them but I hope to read here the fix ... I had to wait "only" 45 days after sent my nexus to have it again on my hands

sorry to hear that.
I actually went to the samsung service centre some time ago, and the technician actually said that its normal to him. >_>
He put in some codes at the dialer and said something in the mic and it played the same words, (I ask him for the codes but he didnt want to give it to me) it did the exact loud buzzing sound from the in-ear speaker. I told him THATs the PROBLEM, but he was like thats normal man, if your speaker's blown, you would hear worse than that. He said he had to order a new speaker to have it "fixed" if I insist.
In the end I didnt leave the phone for the fix, thought to myself if I really can't stand it anymore I'll come back and get the speaker replaced or something.
so far I only had 2 friends that had the same problem. the other 3 friends has no such problem.
are there any news about the issue?

guys, I brought back my cell phone for assistance to fix the problem never repaired today! I inform you on his return
I sent my phone in for repair because my camera had a problem and I wanted to see if they could give me a stirdier volume button and fix my buzzing earpiece. The camera was fixed but nothing else. I think I'm calling later today to see if they can take another look at it. My cheaper lg optimus t doesn't have these problems so it's frustrating to see this phone haveso many problems.

ok I got back my phone (SGS2 internaltion version) from Samsung Service Centre, after a second persuasion they changed the front panel (whole LCD including the front speaker, not sure if the back speaker too, I don't know the structure of the phone).
And now, it's solved!! NO MORE BUZZING when making/receiving calls!
Definitely go ask for an exchange or a change of your panel guys! It's a HARDWARE ISSUE.
i still haven't sent mine in but after hearing that there is a REAL solution could you please tell me everything i should tell the person i talk to from samsung. i just hope they don't ignore the problem a second time and give me the phone back without doing anything to fix the problem.

I dialed a toll free line and let the engineer listen to the buzz, he seemed to be able to make out the buzz too. He said that it could be the glue used on the front speaker. I don't really understand how that would affect it.
But when I took back the phone and asked what was the issue, the same engineer informed that he couldn't actually find the problem, but he just changed the front panel with the speaker. I guess I was pretty insistent (the phone was still under warranty) and I even borrowed another dude's SGS2 for comparison (he was in another counter), everyone was staring at us.
Please note that I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S 2, the structure might be a little bit different, but from my search it seems samsung phones has the same buzzing with some the batches of Nexus S and SGS2.

[Q] Skyrocket mic issue? or software?

Hi,
I was very excited to get my Skyrocket, but after a day of using it, people I called to reported that there's a weird problem with the call audio quality. For a few seconds my voice seems to be muted out, like speaking very distant. This has gone on for many calls at different locations.
Frustrated, I sent the first one back and got another one. It came today and I was very excited. I tried it and there was no problem. Then a couple of hours later, the same problem came on.
This is really weird. I don't think it's a hardware problem since it has happened on both phones, the second of which is brand new. Makes me wonder if it's a software problem. But this did not happen on my HTC Inspire which had the same set of apps as the Skyrocket.
Does anybody encounter the same problem? Know any tests/ fix for the issue? Or even heard of something similar?
Do you have a case on your phone? If so, perhaps it's covering the mic???

Disable the setting that is mic noise cancellation, that's what is causing it.

I am having the same issue where my voice seems fading/distant according to anyone I talk to. I exchanged it once and still have the same problem. I don't really know the problem so I just use BT headset for calls.

Hmmm... my phone was doing the same thing, turned off noise cancellation, fixed.
Sent from my Rocket that is in the Sky!
I have had the identical problem as the original poster. I received my Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket on January 18, 2012. Starting immediately, during phone calls, the other party would tell me that my voice cut out, sounded distant and tinny for a few seconds at a time. When using a bluetooth headset, the problem never occurs, so I ruled out the mobile network as the cause of the problem. I do not have a case for my phone, so that is not the cause of the problem.
I exchanged the phone for a brand new Skyrocket, which I received on February 3, 2012. Same problem with the new phone. I am nearly sure the problem is with the noise cancellation hardware/software. It seems to get worse if I hold the phone touching my ear (the noise cancellation microphone is on the top edge, near where the phone will touch the ear).
Besides this defect, I like the phone a lot. Now I must decide whether to use the phone with noise cancellation turned off, or give up on Skyrocket, return the phone, and choose another Android phone.
Are all Skyrocket owners using their phones with noise cancellation turned off? This is a very serious defect.

It has occurred in many different locations.
In the course single phone call, I can experience the problem using the handset, then switch to a headset and the problem stops, and then go back to the handset and the problem picks up again. I am going to start using the handset with noise cancellation turned off, and I'll report back on how that works.

My observations:
No issues when using bluetooth headset or loudspeaker.
I experience the problem when using the wired headset, and handset with or without noise cancellation.
I probably have a defective phone but did not bother to exchange it again. I use bluetooth headset all the time.

Mic Issue Continues
After looking into reviews of this phone, and subsequently buying one in June, I can't believe I missed this issue. Alas, over the past few months, most recipients of my calls as well as callers to me cannot hear me unless I'm speaking loudly into the phone. To make matters worse, I can't simply tilt the phone to my mouth and back to my ear because the motion sensor will activate the screen and my cheek will touch the "end call" button. I have already turned off noise suppression and still, it's a problem. I have already "talked loudly" and then normally, and still, no dice. I have also switched to speakerphone, then back to normal and still, no dice. This is painful. It makes the "phone" useless. (I have not tried switching to Sky ICS.)
Has anyone found a solution to this design flaw besides a headset? Will adjusting the mic gain work? If so, what code do I need to adjust the mic gain?
Rooted Skyrocket. AOKP Milestone 6
My wife is having this exact same problem on her Skyrocket too.
She was on the official ICS from ATT and then I tried CM9 and nothing seems to make any difference.
Anyone found any more info?
You think it's worth exchanging the phone or just a bad design in the hardware?

I hear installing the Sky ICS ROM may solve the problem. If that is the case, then it is not a hardware design flaw but possibly noise suppression run amok (regardless of whether the option is unchecked). That would seem to be consistent given the mic location has not changed in the Galaxy line of phones. Further, speakerphone works flawlessly.
If Sky ICS works or if I find a "mic gain" solution, I will report back.
guys try rooting ur skyrocket and flashing a new kernel

Suddenly no sound in rear speaker of Nexus S

I have Google Nexus S with ICS 4.0. This phone was bought in US from AT&T Carrier and gifted to me by my brother. Right now I am using it in Saudi Arabia. Since last six months its giving trouble like suddenly rear speaker doesn’t work. Consequently I do not hear any ring when somebody calls nor alram tone or any music. This is the third time it happened. First two times speaker went off for few days and started working again and now I don’t know when I will be able to hear any sound. Just recently I have upgraded to ICS 4.0, before I was having Ginger Bread but this problem was there even then and also persist now. If there is really a hardware problem with the speaker then the voice shall not come back after few days by itself. I would like to know whether this is just happening with my phone or anybody else is also experiencing the same problem.
Please help.
I don't think its a software problem. I haven't heard of a speaker dying because of software. Yes it can happen, but usually on unstable software. That being said, I thunk it is a hardware problem. Every phone is different, some can survive slight water contact, but I've hard of many Nexus S' speakers breaking due to water damage. Has the phone been in any water? Even if not, I still thunk it is a problem with your hardware. Best of luck!

Thanks for your response. But it was never been in water. If it was hardware problem, the voice shall not come back by itself after few days. I am just waiting to hear voice again as was happend previously. Just today my phone is upgraded to Jellybeans but even this upgrade did not solve my problem.

Hey guys!
I have similar problem. There is no sound from rear speaker at all but I can hear sounds from earphone.
I thought that it was a hardware problem but I have just realised that there is sound only from MIUI rom and only in the settings of sounds just "voice volume and bluetooh volume". When I hear these voices, I have realised that there is no issue about rear speaker but the problem is about software.
Could you please help me if you know about some conflicts about any software?
Thank you in advance
