Is there a way to browse device files without using a pc or laptop ?
No..
unfortunately just like WP7, WP8 does not include any form of a file explorer...
why such restrictive....
Is mass storage available for both phone memory and microSD ??? Or just microSD ?
I only want 2 apps, 1) Limited File Explorer to browse only personal files, not the system files and 2) Good Audio-Video player with good codec support.
Same here a file app to rename and organize my stuff on the go and a decent multiformat video player

Would be nice

Why Microsoft being so restrictive? If they allow the user to have more customization they would have more people adopting to the platform.
Give us:
File explorer
Multitasking app to kill open apps
WebKit browser
Multiple search engines
T9 dialer

If you look at IE's settings you can choose which search engine you want to be default. Getting to choose which search engine uses the search softkey at the bottom is different. Bing is suppose to be part of the bread and butter of Windows Phone, I don't see that option ever changing.

No, you can't change the search button. That's what I was meaning in the second half of my post.

Yeah, I know they've covered 90% of work :victory: but when will they make it work on wp8 ?? I want it asap :crying:
Heard MS is also working on a metro version of file manager, then is there any possibility about wp 8 ?? Or should I be hopeless....

Hey guys this may have been asked before but I don't know if I can search using the xda app. Is there a way to open pdf files in the browser. When I click on the link that opens the file it just brings up a blank screen. Any way around this?
Thanks everyone

Is anyone else even having the same problem?
Yes you can search, both in the xda app you are using ( but it won't limit to just one section), and also on the website.
As far as pdf files go... it just auto downloads them whenever I click one.
Sent from my Inspire '4g'.
After downloading them, should be able to open them with the included Adobe Reader app no?
Well the specific website I'm trying to open the file from opens it in a pop up window rather than downloading. The pop up window comes up however it is just s blank white window. On a pc it's in this window that I can save the pdf file however I can't do that on my inspire. I've had windows mobile smartphones for the past few years and this is my first android device.

Yes, I'm having the same problem with specific websites. I have one that I would love to download pdf's from and I get the blank website just like you. Even switched to Dolphin browser (which I really like generally), and I have the same issue with this particular website. Anyone have a solution?
try a 3rd party browser. maybe dolphin or opera mobile.
I am new to android having just come over from the darkside.(iPhone). One thing that I miss from the iPhone is that when I visit a web page in mobile safari, and then exit the application, I could come back to the application and find My web page still open and any windows still open as well. Is there any setting I am overlooking that would allow this behavior on my android?

Its called home button, dont worry, it wont consume memory
Sent from my X10a using xda premium
You should be able to press Home, open whatever else you want to use and still return to the Browser as you left it. Android will keep the Browser state in memory as long as you don't open too many other things in the meantime, otherwise it may be booted out to free up memory.
Long press Home to switch between apps that are in memory.
The home button solution works okay, thanks guys. Does anyone know if there is a way or another browser application that will allow me to keep those windows open indefinitely?

I am new as well.
Can you get the wallpaper background from your Nokia's theme? You can use X-Plore application to search in the folders.
If you can get the wallpaper picture, just load it to your Sensation and select it from the main menu.
If you wanted to export all the theme UI for example, I don't think there is any app for that. Symbians and Androids have different platforms.

Well, X-Plore is meant for your phone. It's an application like Explorer on Windows. From there you can search for the wallpaper picture file and send it to your Sensation. If you don't have it yet on your Nokia, you can download it from LonelyCatGames' website.
Yeah, you can also search for the file from your Nokia phone from your computer. You may need Nokia PC Suit to browse to the internal phone memory, if your wallpaper file is located there.

If you're talking about .sis file, you can't. Symbians and Androids are different platforms.
If you really insist to run a .sis application on Android platform, you should convert it to Java/Jar/.jar/Jad/J2ME based app. And even if you can successfully do that, I have no idea if it will run properly or not without adjustments.
May I ask you what is this theme that you want so badly? I'm curious as I was a Nokia user as well before going to the Galaxy S2.

which one, i got 478 themes
We all know the standard favorite apps...Nova Launcher, Lightflow, Tasker, Pulse, etc. What is an app that you like that doesn't get a lot of attention?
For me it would be Root Call Blocker Pro. With its google group filtering, I was able to go on a website listing lots of common spam numbers in my area code and add those to a google group on my laptop. Now I have about 80 such numbers blocked. I was also able to automatically direct all unknown or private callers to my voicemail.
Webkey. Lets you control everything on your Android from any PC. Even turns your phone access into a URL so no installation required on the controlling PC. Great for using it as a media device when someone doesn't have an integrated multimedia setup.
Screen off and lock.
Desire S • Fallout V2.0.0 • xda premium
Profile Scheduler by Wetpalm, it's smaller and drain less resources then Lama. Scheduler is based on time table - no GPS locations but is free and extremely useful for someone having a fixed day by day routine.
Display orientator is very useful. It forces anything into landscape mode......

It might be a bit more useful if folks would include a link to the apps that are being mentioned. Because I'm bored at work and have nothing better to do, here are the apps that have been mentioned so far:
AirDroid
AlarmDroid
Smart Keyboard Pro
Awesome Wallpaper - as MissionImprobable pointed out, HOLY PERMISSIONS BATMAN!
SwipePad
gReader
Display orientator
Profile Scheduler
Screen Off and Lock
Webkey
CamScanner
TeamViewer
To this list, I would add:
AFV (Android File Verifier) - useful for verifying MD5/SHA-1 hashes of downloaded files
AIX Weather Widget - provides a great easy-to-read graph of forecasted temperature/precipitation for the next 24 hours
Network Monitor Mini - gives a customized overlay indicated current network traffic
@codesplice. u can add TEAMVIEWER, camscanner, ADB wifi n tubemate to the list too

It's kind of a file browser. When you're selecting a file from within a built in application (to send or attach etc) this is how you select it. It's native to Android Kit Kat

Is this rhetorical or do you think I work for Google?
I suppose choice is the key. Most everyday users will be opening their "files" via an app, be it a word / excel type app, or music player etc. To attach files they have this. For anything else, there's play

because they give you the opportunity to install the file browser of your choice, from the play store, instead of loading the phone up with garbage apps. go to the play store, find one you like, and install it. there are plenty of them available, free and paid.
