Hey guys this may have been asked before but I don't know if I can search using the xda app. Is there a way to open pdf files in the browser. When I click on the link that opens the file it just brings up a blank screen. Any way around this?
Thanks everyone

Is anyone else even having the same problem?
Yes you can search, both in the xda app you are using ( but it won't limit to just one section), and also on the website.
As far as pdf files go... it just auto downloads them whenever I click one.

After downloading them, should be able to open them with the included Adobe Reader app no?
Well the specific website I'm trying to open the file from opens it in a pop up window rather than downloading. The pop up window comes up however it is just s blank white window. On a pc it's in this window that I can save the pdf file however I can't do that on my inspire. I've had windows mobile smartphones for the past few years and this is my first android device.

Yes, I'm having the same problem with specific websites. I have one that I would love to download pdf's from and I get the blank website just like you. Even switched to Dolphin browser (which I really like generally), and I have the same issue with this particular website. Anyone have a solution?
try a 3rd party browser. maybe dolphin or opera mobile.

I've had this problem on my Evo and now also on my TF...
Every time I reboot my device when I click a bookmark or URL link of any sort it asks me which browser to open it with and asks to check the box if I want it to always open with that browser. That browser will then truly be my default browser and automatically open such URLs and bookmarks until I reboot and I have to select which browser again... Is there any way to change this so that it remains the default browser and automatically opens links after rebooting? I use Dolphin HD by the way. Thanks in advance!

Yeah, its happening to me too. Hope it gets fixed.
I had the same problem with Dolphin HD on Desire S as well as on Nexus S. Still no fix for this issue?
SOLVED
Ok, I got it All you need to do is to keep browser in phone memory. Concerning Dolphin HD, only browser must be in phone memory, you may move add-ons to SD card...
This worked for my Nexus S but I hope it's universal.
I currently access a website that has the ability to download selected files from the click of a hyperlink. (on the PC). You just click on the link and the files come down and a dialog box opens with the downloaded file asking, to open it or save it.
When I try to do the same on my phone the website appears to be accepting depressing the link, however nothing appears on my phone and I cannot find the file anywhere space on the phone. It may be downloading the file in the file structure but I cannot find it. My friend who has an iPhone does the same thing and the file opens up immediately on his phone just like you would on a PC.
I can open these files if they are sent to me in an e-mail but not by depressing this hyperlink on the website.
Anyone have any ideas?
ps: the phone is a stock Charge with the latest GB update.
Usually you'd see an arrow in the Status Bar when something is actually downloading. You can also check the Downloads app in your App Drawer, providing you have it.
It sounds to me like it's simply not downloading for some reason You could try another Browser to see if you have the same problem.
I tried using the dolphin browser but still no luck. I looked in the downloads folder and did not see it. The particular link on the website itself is a function that automatically begins a download stream to the your device. When using a PC, a dialog box opens up asking if you want to open the file or save it. I get no reaction when using my android phone. I know the function works on a mobile device since a friend of mine with an iPhone perform the same function and it downloaded to his phone.
Any other ideas?
What is the website you are trying to download from?
Anyway, try Opera Mobile first, NOT the MINI version, but "Opera Mobile".
Its the only browser who allowes me to download from any source I tried so far:

Wow, thanks very much for the help yukinok25. Looks like the Opera Mini browser, which I assume is similar to what's in the iPhone works perfectly. The website I am accessing this link is a secure server so I cannot tell you the website.

I am new to android having just come over from the darkside.(iPhone). One thing that I miss from the iPhone is that when I visit a web page in mobile safari, and then exit the application, I could come back to the application and find My web page still open and any windows still open as well. Is there any setting I am overlooking that would allow this behavior on my android?

Its called home button, dont worry, it wont consume memory

You should be able to press Home, open whatever else you want to use and still return to the Browser as you left it. Android will keep the Browser state in memory as long as you don't open too many other things in the meantime, otherwise it may be booted out to free up memory.
Long press Home to switch between apps that are in memory.
The home button solution works okay, thanks guys. Does anyone know if there is a way or another browser application that will allow me to keep those windows open indefinitely?

Hi everyone,
I have checked the site http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_desire_x-4951.php and it states 'Browser: HTML5' most of them on GSM Arena do have 'Adobe Flash' there as well, I have checked on other sites and some places do say the HTC Desire X does support Flash, and some say it doesn't.
What will it be? Can anyone that owns this phone or used it before confirm if it supports Adobe Flash?
This is taken from the official HTC website on the Desire X handset.
Rich and seamless browsing experience
Enjoy HTML5 and Flash® content on the go. And no more panning left and right. The web browser's text reflow automatically adjusts text to the width of your screen. To find out more about using the web browser, see Browsing the Web.
You can also keep a copy of what you're browsing so you can read it later even without an Internet connection. See Saving web content for later.

Please help me clear this up, it's one of the features I want my new phone to have and the other phone I have looked at is the 'Samsung Galaxy S Advance' which states 'Browser: HTML, Adobe Flash', so an advantage for the HTC would be that it is HTML5 what ever this means.
Please help me clear this up, thanks!
The easiest way to get flash is to use a browser that supports it. For example my favorite browser is dolphin browser and it supports flash. So download dolphin browser from the play store and that should work.
Press thanks if I've helped u

Thanks, but in terms of the Browser on the HTC Desire X does anyone know or tested if it supports Flash at all? Would appreciate it, if someone who has used the phone before could give me there input here, cheers.
Please c attachment.
Note text paragragh is cut off right side. This is on my home PC. My m8 with chrome is fine. I use my PC for xda so I really would like to know whats up with my PC.
w7/64
IE 11
malwarebytes
I have Windows fully updated
IE11 is at default
malware has xda listed to not bother
NO 3rd Party ad block app
I have informed xda management, I still cannot enjoy the articles, 1/3 of text not there.
So the question is, why is my PC not displaying web page correctly?

still cannot view website properly.
No replys or serious considered action from xda.???????
No one to even hint at what the issue might be, my pc or the websites. any thoughts? the attachments should say it all..............
It might be a problem with internet explorer, try using a different browser such as chrome or firefox.
still cannot read articles xda.
Attachment will not show it but live, you can almost see the edge of a block of something cutting thru the paragragh.
Since this is the only website with this issue for me, I will not blame IE 11. Pretty annoying when every xda portal post is like this. I'm not inclined to alter my pc to suit 1 website. There are certain times when the client is right. This is 1 of them.

see where the text is cut off in some right hand areas and not others. Why, cannot xda get a web page to display well.
I know this thread is old but recently I started having issues using ie11 on my pc to view the xda website. It was working without issues using ie11 till the other day when I had a symbol in my address bar of a blue circle with a line through it blacking part of the site so i clicked on that icon and clicked to allow xda to the view list and now no matter what i've tried I still can't view the site in ie11. I am using avast free version antivirus and it (without my knowlede) installed its own browser which Im forced to use now just to ask this in this post on the site. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue in ie11 cause I don't like using other browsers on my pc??
Hi,
I have the same problem,
anybody?
