Are you on the HBoot 1.14? You may need to use gui or adb to flash the kernel.
Some kernels are hboot 1.14 friendly and some are not. It states: hboot 1.14:
The installer includes a method to flash the boot.img on hboot 1.14, however, some people still have difficulties. If it doesn't work, extract boot.img from the zip, reboot to bootloader and do:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Note: you must still run the installer to set options and get configuration files!

Yes I'm on HBoot 1.14 would I be able to use flash gui image? (Although I used that before also and it wiped my system clean)
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

Yes. You should be able to use flash gui. I have used it a few times with no problem.

Last question...is there a reason why I cannot control the voltage from Viper tweaks?

...no

I used to have this problem, you need to flash the rom again but dont wipe anything else but dalvik cache and cache, no worry you won't lose any system data or else now am clean but i use stock voltage

Try to flash the Vanilla kernel.. most phones cant handle undervoltage... And If you dont have s-off you need to flash the boot.img in fastboot.

If found increasing the voltage during set up helps

Sorry for the late reply, but i used flash gui image and it works perfect
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

viperxl 2.3.5 + s-off, and i just install elementalX 5.2 (default setting , but not vanilla). Now, i want to have vanilla setting on this kernel, and what should i do now? or i have to install kernel again and get setting to vanilla ?

You can go through the setup again and get the vanilla option yes

I hate to bump, but I ran across this problem as well, and what I found that worked was to do a backup of my phone through TWRP then I flashed the custom kernel, then did a restore. It still read my kernel as ElementalX as my kernel in my about section. I'm not sure if this is a fluke or something, but it seemed to work well for me after I kept getting a bootloop.

yes you can, just make sure it's compatible with whatever rom you're running. You may want to ask the kernel dev in question, a lot of rom developers frown upon flashing a kernel they have nothing to do with (for obvious reasons) and will not provide support if yo have any issues.

I flashed a kernel earlier today (Beastmode v. 3.0) but it didn't work the first time. Here are the steps I took:
1. Downloaded the boot.img for Beastmode Kernel (Its found on page 166 of the thread just read the posts)
2. Rebooted into Bootloader
3. Flashed the boot.img via fastboot
4. Reboot into Recovery (TWRP)
5. Flash Beastmode zip
6. Reboot System
HOWEVER....I should note that it did not work the first time I tried it for some reason it would hang at the HTC ONE screen for a long time and never made it to the home screen. So I actually factory reset, re-flashed stock boot.img from King Cobra v 1.5 ROM then I repeated the above steps and it worked, confirmed the clock speed via Benchmark app...
Hopefully it works for ya!

Welllll, he can flash it fastboot. If he's on 1.09 he can go both ways if he chooses.

agreed. but he certainly does not have to do both as Empyre posted. I also find it is probably safer for a new user (yes a noob) to deal with twrp than commands in fastboot.
Thanks for the help.

How to install a different kernel?

I am not on 2.2, can I just replace the boot.img in the zip file with the new kernel and flash that from recovery? Or do I need to install the rom as normal, and then installing the kernel from fastboot?
If under 1.14 boot, flash ROM, then I usually boot to make sure its OK then back to recovery an flash kernel zip.

1.11 but either way, gonna try that now.
Just me being careful after multiple failed attempts and almost turning my phone into a nice expensive paperweight, I flash separately.
Boot.img from one .zip
Recovery - install .zip
Then repeat for each one that I want. Getting ready to flash Beastmode v3 kernel and then the cam fix.

No frills is good.
I'm using kernel tuner as I like being able to force second CPU online.

Did you use flash gui or adb to flash the kernel? hboot 1.14 requires flashing boot image seperatly.

Only VenomXL can be flashed, no other ROMs work?

As title says, I can only flash Venom ROM, no other one is allowed. Every time I try, I get an error (Status 1) in TWRP. Do you guys have any similar problems/ways to fix it?

Downgrade your recovery to an earlier version. The latest one caused this problem.

I have the latest hboot, so I have to use 2.4 no matter what?
Is it recommended to S-OFF and downgrade to 1.09 instead?

Yes I recommend s-off with 1.09 hboot. What hboot do you have right now?
Sent from my VENOMized HoxL
My understanding of s-off is that your hboot version becomes irrelevant.
You can even leave your phone bootloader locked and still flash roms, radios, recoveries, kernels etc when you're s-off.
Before s-off, hboot 1.09 - 1.11 allowed for kernels and radios to be flashed via recovery which is why they were preferred.
The only issue with the newer hboot is the upgraded touch panel drivers which are not compatible with AOSP roms.
But h8rift created a thread so you can downgrade just the touch panel if you want to use AOSP.

PAC Rom

Hey all, I've just switched to this ATT One X and I'm looking for a little guidance. I've rooted, unlocked bootloader, and flashed TWRP. I've also downloaded PAC and GAPPs. That being said, I've read a little about flashing a Rom and a boot.img seperately which would be new to me. I didn't see anything mentioning that process on the PAC thread so I'm assuming that I just wipe data, flash Rom, wipe cache and dalvik, flash gapps and reboot? If there is something I'm missing, could anybody help? Thanks in advance!
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
If you are s-off you do not have to flash the boot.img seperately. If you are s-on you have to flash the boot.img with fastboot from a computer.

Quick question, flash the whole rom zip, then the boot.img, then gaaps?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I'm pretty sure you can flash the boot.img with fastboot before or after the rom. But flash gapps after you flash the rom. The way I used to do it(when I was s-on) was flash rom, flash gapps, then flash the boot.img from the terminal using fastboot.

[APP] Flash Image GUI - Flash Kernels and Recoveries from normal Android mode! is your friend
flash boot.img first then rom and gapps, but definately do s-off you don't wanna end up forgetting that flashing 3.17/3.18 with s-on + supercid will brick your phone.
Nice! I'm looking into s-off as of now, but what did you mean by flashing 3.17/3.18? I'm on 3.18 and I believe I have superCID. Does that mean I should hold off on flashing until I'm s-off?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
No you can flash now. We weren't aware that you're already on the 3.18 firmware. If you weren't on that firmware you would have needed to RUU up to it in order to flash the ROM, and the warning was to get s-off before running the RUU because s-on + SuperCID + RUU = brick. So, go ahead and flash the ROM.
PS. In future, make sure you provide all relevant information (current firmware/current recovery/s-off or s-on status). This information is needed to help, and it also stops this kind of confusion.

Sorry for the confusion. Trying to gather as much knowledge on this as possible and didn't think to mention that I did the ota update to 3.18. I appreciate the help guys and hopefully soon I'll have a custom Rom running on this thing
