[Q] What did i do wrong? (Rooting) - HTC Sensation

Hello there,
i've been trying to install a custom ROM on my phone (Cyanogen - of any version really)
i've tried V9, V10.1 (nightly) and some other one "bruce" made, they all get stuck at the same point, the spinning "cyanogen" animation
(or the v9 equivalent)
now i've been told this is because i'm not formatting things enough before i install the new ROM - but i assure you i am formatting everything except /system and /sd-ext
is there any clues as to what i am doing wrong?
i got as far as installing ClockworkMod which seemed successful - im not sure what information you need (i dont want to go and put a giant block of redundant information so please ask for what information you need, thanks)
i thank you for your time in advance, and i will be as active as i can

Hi,
Try this .
Go HERE
Follow the thread carefully, and you should be up and running in no time.
The key is the 4EXT recovery.
This has "Smartflash" which enables the loading of ROMS.

Do not post a new thread!!!! DISAPPEARING POSTS!

Do NOT post a new thread without reading this first! Very important! Your post may vanish!
I've about had it! I move countless new posts each day to the General catagory!
I want to make one thing clear, if you are not developing or at least helping in the development of a rom, hack, script, driver or anything similar you probably should not post in development.
de·vel·op·ment   [dih-vel-uhp-muhnt]
–noun
1.
the act or process of developing; growth; progress: child development; economic development.
2.
a significant consequence or event: recent developments in the field of science.
3.
a developed state or form: Drama reached its highest development in the plays of Shakespeare.
4.
Music . the part of a movement or composition in which a theme or themes are developed.
5.
a large group of private houses or of apartment houses, often of similar design, constructed as a unified community, esp. by a real-estate developer or government organization.
6.
Chess . the act or process of developing chess pieces.
7.
Mining . the work of digging openings, as tunnels, raises, and winzes, to give access to new workings, and of erecting necessary structures.

So since we aren't BP workers sitting around playing chess while listening to Mozart or watching Hamlet. And we're sure as hell not teachers trying to show children how to do constructions (although I can use it as a metaphore) I'm going to go out on a limb and say that #2 applies.
So unless you can create "a significant consequence or event" other than your own device then you should not post in development.
Do you have a [Q] Question?
Maybe, just maybe it might belong in the general Q&A section.
That would be this:
myTouch 3G, Magic General
Discussion about the T-Mobile myTouch 3G, HTC Magic (general Q&A, tips & tricks)
So here's the deal... for the next two weeks until further notice I am going to be very strict.
If I see a post that should not be in the development section, I will remove it completely. I won't move it, I won't warn anybody. It'll just be gone.
A few days ago I had to go and move 14 (that's fourteen) posts all at once. That's a little out of hand. These were obvious Q&A like:
What rom is the best?
What is _________ app from ________ picture?
How do I setup swap?
What is compcache?
How do I setup adb?
Why is my recovery not working?
How do I flash a new recovery?
Help me flash a new radio?
etc, etc, etc.
(These were only examples since I don't want to single anyone out.)
These are NOT development related.
Now if you made a script or an app of some kind that made these questions easier for the user then it would be development. Get it? Good! Because I'm not repeating it!
Final warning to all members!
And this goes hand in hand with this warning here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=545005
Also... if you break this rule... you can find your post in two places in the trash.
First place will be in the trash.
Second place will be in this locked thread as an example of what NOT to post in the Development section.
You have been warned!

CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
May 27 2009, 19:06:41
ROM: CM6RC3
Recovery: Amon_Ra
Goal: Flash 2.22.23.02 radio onto my phone.
Issues: I have a "perfected" SPL on my phone, 1.33.0006. This means that I cannot use fastboot to flash my radio (I get the "remote: not allow" error).
Main questions:
Can I simply rename the radio file I downloaded (forum.cyanogenmod.c om/files/file/50-magic-radio-2-22-23-02zip/) to "update.zip" and flash the radio using recovery mode?
Do I need to then immediately flash a new ROM (preferably Cyanogen 6 RC3) right after flashing the radio, because flashing the radio requires a ROM flash right afterward (read that somewhere).
If the above steps are correct, do I need to do a full phone wipe? Or just cache and dalvik-cache?
Do I need to worry about compatibility between radio and ROM version? Or radio and SPL version?
OR do I need to first flash the SPL to something like 1.33.2010 (a custom, non-perfected SPL)? If so, do I follow a procedure similar to this: (forum.xda-developers.c om/showpost.php?p=5304579&postcount=4) ? I assume this SPL would allow me to use fastboot to flash the radio (negating the need to flash radio via recovery).
Just want to upgrade the radio to (supposedly) get better reception. And yes, this is a USA MT3G (1st version). Would prefer not to create a goldcard and all that jazz (which I haven't done before).
THANK YOU!

Hi!
I have a HTC magic 32B black rooted.
When I passed to froyo from eclair (with superE), my phone started to give me a lot of problems.
Is impossible to connect it to a wi-fi modem. IT START TO REBOOT IN LOOP and the only solution is remove battery... and change ROM (with a Eclair based).
In particular, when I install for example, a new froyo ROM like superfroyo 2.8.2, at the first connection with WPA2 protected network, my phone, after the typing of password, start reboot in loop. At every restart is impossible to switch off wi-fi.
Same problem with the connection at 3G network...
With Eclair there isn't problem.
Am I the only one with this problem?
What can I do for to have froyo without problems in my magic?

Desire S stuck on htc logo at boot

Hi all,
I can't boot my HTC Desire S and I didn't backup....
I have been following various guides this is my boot config:
Code:

HBOOT-2.00.0002
RADIO-3822.10.08.04_M
eMMC-boot
Aug 22 2011,15:22:13
I am on a mac. I am very familiar with the Unix's, so I chose not to use the various guides and Windows tools.
My process:
- HTC DEV Unlock
- Push Clockworkmod Recovery Image using fastboot.
- Wipe Device using Clockworkmod
- Flash with cyanogenmod
- Doesn't boot!
Software I have tried:
- Android: update-cm-7.1.0-DesireS-signed.zip, and cm_saga_full-59.zip, miuiandroid_DesireS-2.3.9.zip.
- Clockwork recovery: 5.0.2.0-saga, touch-5.8.15-saga, 4.0.1.4-saga.
- Using google apps from Cyanogen: gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
- Also tried using su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip.
- RUU Saga o2 UK (But I can't load up Android!)
What are my options?
Is there any more manual, down and dirty methods I can achieve with fastboot and the adb binary?
Is there anywhere I can get the original recovery image from?
you have to manual flash the boot.img file with this command
fastboot flash boot boot.img( you extract the boot.img from the zip file that you
want to flash)
search the forum for more information, it was already discussed
That's perfect thank you! Can't believe I missed that, I shall have to knock up a Mac guide!

Hi all, I understand it is frustrating seeing the same threads over and over.
As a mac user, and owner of a device that didn't need to have the "S-OFF" string present in their boot process, I was unable to find a single guide or thread to help me.
I did search, over and over again, over the course of several hours at numerous forums. But I couldn't find a forum sticky, blog post, or wiki article (even from the official sites of popular rom developers) about flashing the boot partition with the boot image. I made my progress mostly by guessing.
Shall I put a post together from a pure mac and linux point of view? Lots of guides are written around one-off click and go executables for windows.
What's the problem? As long as the thread is in Q&A or General, you're just getting free "Thanks" for posting the same two lines

[Q]Sensation 4g TMO..root/boot issues

To All, Hey members. Im new to the community but have been a avid follow of this site for quite some time now. I am pretty tech savy and feel like I can fix this problem. The problem being this: I have a sensation 4g from tmobile that was given to me cause someone attempted to root it and couldnt get it done. So as of right now, I can get to the bootloader screen and it has recovery 4xt as well. I have yet to root a device but have been researching it quite thoroughly on here and with the phone being in the state its in, i felt rather opposed to ask instead of taking initiative and risking bricking the device.

So where can I can from here?? I feel like theres something i can do to pick up where the previous person left off, or maybe start over possibly. Im open to all feedback and would appreciate the help to further my knowledge of Android devices and rooting in a whole To add, I have not installed anything to my laptop at this time.

[Q] Reinstalling Android Revolution HD ROM and upgrading to a later version

Hello all,
2.5 years ago I bought my HTC Sensation, after a while I was getting several errors and problems with email servers etc. I decided I wanted a custom ROM that worked well. I had an HTC Touch HD before this phone and was successful in putting a new ROM on that without too many problems, so I thought I was able to do it with my HTC Sensation as well. So I got a ROM (Android Revolution from Mike1986 and installed it. It took me a lot of trouble to get it done and a lot of time to get through it all to understand it, but I managed and worked flawlessly.
Now to the issue. After 2 years my phone is way slower again with the Android Revolution ROM from Mike, it is probably my own fault or just that a device gets slower after 2 years of use so no problem there. Anyway, I want to reinstall my phone again and have the current information in the bootloader:
***UNLOCKED***
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.27.0000
eMMC-boot
Jan 13 2013, 17:33:34
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC
What I would like to know is, what are the steps I should take. Since I already installed a Custom ROM before, and it being a very long time ago (not remembering it all), do I need to go through the same process again as I did at the start? Could you please point me in the right direction, I don't want to mess up my phone and I need to know which steps to take before I can reinstall the latest Android Revolution ROM.
I absolutely love the Android Revolution ROM, fast, works great, no nonsense. So huge kudos to Mike for it!
I just need some pointing in the right direction, what to do and what not to do. So which guides to use, which specific parts of the guides, what to skip etcetera. It has been a long time for me that I looked in to this so I am a bit rusty on the 'Installing custom roms' topic and don't want to wreck my phone.
Thanks a lot for your help!
simple steps
1)make a nandroid backup first from recovery just in case
2)format all partitions except sdcard from recovery
3)enable smartflash from recovery(because you are on S-ON and i assume you have 4ext)
4)flash the rom
5)done

Man if I knew it was that easy I would have done it earlier haha. Thank you very much, I will let you know if it worked!
EDIT: Figured it out, thank you for your help, short but perfect explanation! Really appreciate it!
Don't forget to backup your apps!
The only thing I would add is to not forget to backup your apps with something like Titanium backup before following any of the steps. It saves a whole lot of time later in restoring all your apps with the data intact.

Solved......I am a complete fool. I renamed the recovery image "twrp.img" so the actual file was "twrp.img.img". How embarrassing.....LOL! Time to just go and hit the bar and have a beer! I must have cabin fever after this winter and my mind is not functioning properly. ARGH!

I apologize in advance as I'm sure this has been asked toomany times to count, but I have searched and searched thread after thread to see if I can find a solution for about 23 hrs straight, I'm pretty much out of time & panicking now that I messed up beyond fixing. Any advice, help, or a point in the right direction to the right post would be very much appreciated!!!
So, the problem is, I'm not 100% sure but I think I have "soft bricked" my phone... I gained s-off through Sunshine about a week ago, I have been reading & researching how to root my phone for updating to a custom ROM running 6.0 MM for months now trying to prevent any issues & be as well educated as possible...
Last night I finally gained root access using Kingroot, then switching over superSU BUT of course, I had the problem with the binaries. I installed TWRP app to perform the recovery flash to ext SD because I do have a PC, but it's a work computer so I don't have administrator rights to install any programs/apps on the PC such as ADB, Flashify, etc.
Before I decided to restart my phone I had SuperSU running the # sign in the notifications center (re: the binaries), I also had the TWRP manager I chose my device model, but I did not install any files (at least I don't think I did). I was most concerned on my current backup & flashing that to my extSD. Which is what I thought I had done, or maybe I didn't do anything at all? BTW- I have removed the SD card & inserted into my PC to see what files were on it, and nothing!! Nothing at all to do with SuperSU nor TWRP (I have since installed the latest update SuperSU zip file on that card). All I know is I cannot get my phone on past the Verizon screen, I can perform a hard boot & get back into hboot /fastboot, I have all options on the menu, and have tried every one of them minus the 'factory data reset', 'apply from phone storage' or 'ramdump'. I would have typed in the information that the screen says in HBOOT but my phone literally just died from the screen being on so long :-/ I will add that info if needed once I can boot it back up without use of the charging cable.
Any help on what to do would be so greatly appreciated as apparently I'm freaking out & I'm thinking I'm way in over my head not knowing what exactly happened to cause this!!! Please Help:crying:

You are fine. Start fixing it by flashing the latest s-on ruu I have posted. This will NOT affect your s-off or unlocked boot loader status. Then when done flash twrp via fastboot. (Never use that stinking app). Then flash supersu zip in twrp to root your stock rom. If you have fast internet I can always you using team viewer (free app)
I'm still having trouble...

First,I appreciate you getting back tome so soon. I downloaded the latest RUU onto my SD card, then reloaded it into my phone in bootloader, nothing happened
Right now, I still cannot get past the red Verizon screen, my phone won't turn on fully... The options I have are my "Administrator PW protected work PC" that I cannot run fastboot on, or my Nextbook tablet. Would Team View work on either of these since my phone is out of the question?
Rightnow this is what my HBOOT screen is saying....

If nothing ran you have the file either named wrong or have an extra .zip on the end of the name. Make sure you view file extensions to be sure. It's case sensitive and 0P6BIMG.zip
Leading character is a zero.
First part COMPLETE!

Okay, I have hope. Thank You SO MUCH!!! Phone is on (upgrading currently), but IT'S ON:highfive: I think I accidentally used the s-off file instead of the s-on, and I did add the .zip onto that file (since it wasn't showing it w/ it, DUHHH). I will follow the rest of your instruction's very carefully later on, this will take a while, on app 80 out of 279 (bloatware, ugh!!) Hopefully, it goes more smoothly & I won't have to bother you again :fingers-crossed:
Thanks Again!
P.S. Will be contributing ASAP once I get this mess cleaned up. I really do appreciate all of your hard work & the magic that you make happen!!

Well if you used the s-off one that's fine too. You will be rooted already. Just need to flash the latest twrp image and you will be fine.
