Hi all,
I can't boot my HTC Desire S and I didn't backup....
I have been following various guides this is my boot config:
Code:
*** UNLOCKED ***
SAGA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.00.0002
RADIO-3822.10.08.04_M
eMMC-boot
Aug 22 2011,15:22:13
I am on a mac. I am very familiar with the Unix's, so I chose not to use the various guides and Windows tools.
My process:
- HTC DEV Unlock
- Push Clockworkmod Recovery Image using fastboot.
- Wipe Device using Clockworkmod
- Flash with cyanogenmod
- Doesn't boot!
Software I have tried:
- Android: update-cm-7.1.0-DesireS-signed.zip, and cm_saga_full-59.zip, miuiandroid_DesireS-2.3.9.zip.
- Clockwork recovery: 5.0.2.0-saga, touch-5.8.15-saga, 4.0.1.4-saga.
- Using google apps from Cyanogen: gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
- Also tried using su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip.
- RUU Saga o2 UK (But I can't load up Android!)
What are my options?
Is there any more manual, down and dirty methods I can achieve with fastboot and the adb binary?
Is there anywhere I can get the original recovery image from?
you have to manual flash the boot.img file with this command
fastboot flash boot boot.img( you extract the boot.img from the zip file that you
want to flash)
search the forum for more information, it was already discussed
That's perfect thank you! Can't believe I missed that, I shall have to knock up a Mac guide!

How true, but ben_pyett told he will include it at the index, maybe there are a bit less of such threads (hopefully).

Hi all, I understand it is frustrating seeing the same threads over and over.
As a mac user, and owner of a device that didn't need to have the "S-OFF" string present in their boot process, I was unable to find a single guide or thread to help me.
I did search, over and over again, over the course of several hours at numerous forums. But I couldn't find a forum sticky, blog post, or wiki article (even from the official sites of popular rom developers) about flashing the boot partition with the boot image. I made my progress mostly by guessing.
Shall I put a post together from a pure mac and linux point of view? Lots of guides are written around one-off click and go executables for windows.
What's the problem? As long as the thread is in Q&A or General, you're just getting free "Thanks" for posting the same two lines

To All, Hey members. Im new to the community but have been a avid follow of this site for quite some time now. I am pretty tech savy and feel like I can fix this problem. The problem being this: I have a sensation 4g from tmobile that was given to me cause someone attempted to root it and couldnt get it done. So as of right now, I can get to the bootloader screen and it has recovery 4xt as well. I have yet to root a device but have been researching it quite thoroughly on here and with the phone being in the state its in, i felt rather opposed to ask instead of taking initiative and risking bricking the device.

On the SDcard i was able to see the two roms and the other file listed below.
I attempted to install Elegancia one and went through the process fine and upon reboot it stops, same with the other rom.
Elegancia_ICS_TMOUS_V3.0.0
Android_Revolution_HD-Sensation_6.6.7

So where can I can from here?? I feel like theres something i can do to pick up where the previous person left off, or maybe start over possibly. I have my laptop and am eager to follow instructions to accomplish this task at hand. Im open to all feedback and would appreciate the help to further my knowledge of Android devices and rooting in a whole To add, I have not installed anything to my laptop at this time.

Hello there,
i've been trying to install a custom ROM on my phone (Cyanogen - of any version really)
i've tried V9, V10.1 (nightly) and some other one "bruce" made, they all get stuck at the same point, the spinning "cyanogen" animation
(or the v9 equivalent)
now i've been told this is because i'm not formatting things enough before i install the new ROM - but i assure you i am formatting everything except /system and /sd-ext
is there any clues as to what i am doing wrong?
i got as far as installing ClockworkMod which seemed successful - im not sure what information you need (i dont want to go and put a giant block of redundant information so please ask for what information you need, thanks)
i thank you for your time in advance, and i will be as active as i can

Hi,
Try this .
Go HERE
Follow the thread carefully, and you should be up and running in no time.
The key is the 4EXT recovery.
This has "Smartflash" which enables the loading of ROMS.
ood night, i´m really happy to join this big comunity;
My question is this... severals weeks ago, i got an incredible 2 in verizon (in from Mexico City), i tried to unlock to use it with the mexican carriers, but I thought i would be a good idea to root it and get a nice rom.
I use the fastboot way, but, i forgot to make a backup to the original ruu, so i can not be able to follow as the procedure said.
I've been stuck for a several weeks trying to solve this, reading this and another android (mostly htc foums).
the i got this link from android forums (i´m a new user so i cant post links i can share by inbox ) but my i understand that the adb only can be run in the "normal" mode, i mean without the phone bricked, in this point i got my mobile with this..

i have the recovery clockwork 5.0.2.0 vivow
i know that i cant do too much with the S-ON, neither cant boot any rom, and i tried with fastboot, but the adb command "adb devices" doesnt recognize the phone, the fastboot command is actually working , so i cant do anything though.
i´m not an expert, i spent all these days on google before asking directly in any forum, but i ran out of ideas (and forum theads), i´m just beging a couple of hints.
Thanks for your time and redards from México.

I tryed to flash a custom rom on my droid incredible 2 but i wasn't aware that i needed to unlock s-on to S-off mode, note my phone won't boot. I can run recovery and fastboot. But my phone won't boot, so i can't access adb to install revolutionary to change to s-off. Need help here to. Is there any way to get S-off without adb access?
Hi Guys (long time listener first time caller etc etc)
I finally got the courage to install a custom rom on to my HTC One XL (Telstra). After unlocking it installing the custom bootloader (2.5.0.0 TW) I have tried to install some roms and get no where with a few of them and boot loops if they actually install.
The two I can get to install but boot loop are ViperXL and cyanogenmod 10.0.
I am thinking I am doing something really simple wrong, but have tried a lot of things but no luck.
Details below; If there is anything else which might shed some light please let me know.

oh, I did install all of Telstra's updates prior to starting. The last one brought android up to 4.1.2 I think.

Welcome mate.
Couple of things...
The HBoot version you have won't allow you to update the boot.img of the rom your flashing as part of rom installation. You have 2 options - first is to s-off which pretty much lets you do whatever you like. Check in the original development thread for how to s-off if you're interested.
The second option is to flash (install) the boot.img in bootloader mode.
You can do that either before or after you flash the rom. Before I was s-off I did it both before and after.....
There's a few ways to do it including using adb or some apps will do it automatically for you. Take a look here for one example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1870455
And the second thing - good idea to post questions in the Q&A thread. More people look through there so you'll get your answer faster.
Get rid of twrp5.0, had the same issue, flaahed back to 2.3.3.1 and all is good...

Hello all.
My goal is to Root my Sensation 4g. However, due to an odd sequence of events, my Sensation 4G ended up with what I gather is an odd set of conditions... listed below. I've read and reread a multitude of how-tos within these XDA-Developers pages, but I have not come up with exactly how to proceed. As you can see, it doesn't say locked, or unlocked, or whatever other locked options exist. I understand that Firmware 3.33 is non-stock. Also, note that the phone is already S-OFF and HBOOT is 1.27.1100. Apparently this is an unusual combination. That all brings me to the big question. Which mechanism do I use to root the phone? I want to retain the ability to apply OTA updates, so it is my understanding that I need to keep stock recovery. Is this true or not? I guess that's it. How do I just root the phone without screwing up something else, or bricking it?
Thanks for your time.

For OTAs you need the stock recovery, yes. However, as things currently are, there will be no further OTAs, so that's something you should consider, and so you can just flash another recovery and flash a custom ROM.
You can flash a rooted kernel found on this guide (end of step 2 and step 3), but since it is 3.32, I'm not sure if it will work (but it might). You can also use other kernels for this which are compatible. just use the fastboot flash boot path/to/boot.img command on fastboot.
However, being rooted might also block OTAs, but I'm not sure of that.
For OTA requires stock recovery and stock kernel AFAIK
But as above user said there are no OTA updates for sensation anymore so it is pointless

Thank y'all for the information. I had not heard about the OTA updates. I guess I'll not worry about that.
I went to the link provided by astar26 and I reviewed steps 2 & 3 as recommended. I've read that section before. I'm sure I understand the process, but I don't see where I am to get the "boot.img" file it mentions. I've downloaded a variety of files from various places, but I don't have a boot.img file, unless it is buried within one of the zip files, or in other executables such as the RUU files I ran before. When you say I can use "other kernels", I don't know for sure what that means, or where to get them, or how to determine which are okay for me to use with my T-mobile/Sensation 4G. My reason for rooting is so I can once again run Titanium Backup and other apps that require root. That is all I want to do at this time.

There is a way to add root to your existing kernel, but I don't remember it. A quick google search might lead to it (requires messing a bit with the shell).
The boot.img is inside the zip files, in the link I gave you, it is in the end of step 2. Just extract it from the zip, it's called boot.img.
You can also use:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2079851
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424345
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1256668
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562027
They should all work, but you also need to install a superuser app. Try one such as SuperSU.
However, Until replying to this thread I did not know the rooting was in the kernel itself. And you can actually do it yourself with One click tools (such as the all-in-one toolkit for the sensation or even manually (first guide I found, I believe there are many more. Also, when using the mount command, the partition name might be /dev/block/mmcblk0p22, but I'm not sure if it's one or the other (the one I gave is definitly the /system partition, but in the ADB conext the other might work)).
Anyway, first try flashing the kernel and see how it will go.
