Update 8.0.10211.204 - Windows Phone 8x by HTC

This downloaded yesterday to my 8X (Telstra)...
Messaging improvements.
A great messaging experience is now even better. You can now add multiple recipients at the same time when you send a text message and automatically save unsent text messages as drafts. You can even edit received text messages before you forward them.
Text replies to incoming calls.
Can't take a call? Now you can send a prewritten text reply to a caller directly from the call answer screen. It's a nice way to let people know that you're not ignoring them.
Internet Explorer improvements.
You can now change your settings to prevent pictures from downloading automatically—an easy way to help keep data usage low. You can also delete selected sites from your browsing history and leave the rest intact.
Wi-Fi connectivity.
Got a favorite Wi-Fi network? Windows Phone 8 will now prioritize Wi-Fi connections based on your connection history.
Other improvements. Includes many other improvements to Windows Phone.

this is portico update, isnt?
So, it is old.

Yeah, just got Portico Saturday on the Bell network in Canada. A bit late, but at least I finally got persistent Wifi.

Among those improvements my battery life went from barely lasting a day before needing a charge, to nearly 3 days! VERY HAPPY!!

What battery are you on I get barely 12h

Is receiving emails while in stand-by possible?

I've noticed my TP doesn't receive emails when the phone is in stand-by, even if an automatic send/receive schedule is set. This makes it completely useless to me. I mean, what's the point of automatic send/receive schedule, if the phone will be in stand-by 90 % of the time (or for 2 hours straight)? Is there any way to get notifications of new emails even if the phone is in stand-by?
Thanks
Mine works
U have send and receive every 5 mns
Strange, it does work for me (on a POP account with auto send/receive every hour). E-mails come in at night, for instance. They just don't make the phone come out of standby or turn on the screen, but the white LEDs around the centre button provide a visual notification.
You could edit the notifications (settings -> sounds and notifications -> second tab -> new e-mail) for a more persuasive signal (vibration).
Are you referring to cellulair download or WiFi download? Remember that WiFi is disabled upon entering standby, unless otherwise configured using Advanced Configuration Editor. For cellulair download the right network connection must be selected if WiFi was used before. Are you able to receive emails on the proper automatic schedule if you don't put / allow the device to go into standby?
hotmail also works fine with the setting - update when message received (options set in windows live). In fact hotmail acts as a very good push service for those of you that want delivery of email as it arrives.
Hmm, thats odd. I have two IMAP accounts, and neither update when the device is in stand-by. I'm using 3G data connection to update. I sent myself an email, put the device to stand-by, and waited. Send/receive was scheduled for every 5 mins. After absolutely no activity in about ten minutes, I woke the phone. A little after that I get a sound & popup notifications of a new email. Also, the LED around the centre button start to flash. If I don't allow the phone to enter stand-by, it receives new messages as it should.
Well, at least it should work. I was afraid there for a while that this was a feature rather than a bug. Hopefully it'll get fixed with a ROM update at the latest. I'm using standard 1.90.401.1 WWE at the moment.
this was a problem we had with the kaiser....hopefully we dont have the same problem here...
Well, this is interesting. I turned off HSDPA/HSUPA (I have an upper limit of 384 kbps anyway), and enabled automatic send/receive when roaming. After this the auto s/r works also in stand-by. Good enough for me!
Hm hey guys,
I'm facing the same problem with my Raphael.
I get my emails forwared via MMS from O2 Germany. Problem that I just realized now, I only get them when I turn my phone on.
So if someone sends me an email at night, I get the MMS with it in the morning when my alarm turns on. Isn't too bad but still a little annoying - what can I do?

Is My Battery Defective or too many email clients??

I have a Touch Pro with Sprint that I bought October 30th. I currently have it checking my Gmail, Hotmail, Work email (Exchange), and side job email (POP3). I don't use applications a whole lot but I'll occassionally use the GPS in the Windows Live app every so often to find something but not for more than 5 minutes. I do text maybe 10-20 messages a day. So I'm not doing anything that should drain the battery too horribly. When I first had Gmail and Hotmail working, battery life was decent, but i still had to charge it every night. I have Hotmail set to get email "as it arrives". Which I'm under the impression that they have it working with Push for Hotmail/Windows Live mail, correct? My Gmail is set through IMAP and checks every 60 minutes. I added my POP3 email to check "once a day". Battery life wasn't really effected. Then I added my Exchange email and set it to Push. My battery life plummetted. I couldn't get through half the day without having to charge my battery, even when I wasn't receiving emails. I don't receive too many emails with my work and even during my off hours when I'm not receiving any, it kills my battery life. I was under the impression that with Push, basically when I get an email on my server, my phone gets sent a little message telling it to check for email on the server. So its only checking email when told. I could be completely wrong, but does anyone have suggestions. I can barely make it through the day without having to charge the phone and that's using JUST email. If I try to use GPS or internet, I'm afraid my phone will die when I most need it. Thanks for any suggestions!!
Push email requires a data connection to be maintained open 24/7 - the only way to lessen the impact of this on your battery life is to force the phone into EDGE mode rather than UMTS/HSPA, it will use less power on EDGE and give you longer life, but you'll lose the various advantages of HSPA.
Your other choice is using a service that is not true push email, but their service checks your email account every so often and sends you notification through SMS to check it.. I believe "Seven" does this.. this way you don't have to maintain a data connection open 24/7.
Have you tried turning push mail off for a day or two and see if thats the real culprit here>
Having a data connection open doesn't use up much battery life. Only when its active does it chew through the battery.
AT&T Fuze - Battery Life
I had the same problem with Outlook Direct Push on my AT&T Fuze. When I changed activesync to every 10 minutes for my Outlook account, it improved my battery performance immensely!

S: Instant Messenger without battery drain

I am looking for an instant messenger application that is easy on the battery of my HTC Fuze. I tried Beejive, but it just runs down my battery in no time when connected. I also tried OZ, which uses SMS instead of a data connection. This of course saves some battery life as it doesn't need an always-on data connection, but it would also quickly decrease the pool of my included text messages.
I was searching for a solution that would allow forwarding of instant messages via email. And if I were to receive such an email, I could then fire up Beejive and engage in the conversation. Does anyone know about such a service? I googled like crazy but couldn't find a thing.
As an FYI, I am using my HTC Fuze on T-Mobile with the $20 Blackberry unlimited data plan and a bucket of 400 text messages.
i would say that the im client is the least of the batt drain thing
the fact that the phone have to be online with gprs or wifi all the time
to be connected is what drains the power
which program would not make much of a diffrence

I think I might have a solution... Scratch the Blackberry plan, add T-Zones 5.99 plan and an unlimited 15$ a month text plan and your good for a buck extra a month.
Not a bad idea, if I wasn't using the Blackberry Connect software to get push-mail -- which is surprisingly gentle on my battery, even though it uses an always-on EDGE connection.
I'm trialing this at the moment, tempted to buy it when my 7 days runs out

Very little battery drain and when signal drops can forward messages to an email address you specify

How to block text messages?

So I have my account set up to text me when my bill is ready.
Otherwise, I don't have texting as part of my plan.
I keep getting text messages from random numbers - no, I don't give out my number. I don't do phone calls or texts other then T-mo incoming for billing.
How do I block all but carrier texts?
If no easy solution presents itself then i'll just remove texting capabilities from my ROM.
I won't pay T-mo to block texts, i'll either do one of two things:
-eliminate the phones ability to receive them
This is an easy fix, but I lose my billing messages and I have trouble keeping track of my place in time, so they are helpful. This is a defensive mechanism.
-Devise an offensive solution. I have a few ideas, but nothing i'm willing to pursue at this time. Lacking other options I may.
Any help from the community out there?
I'm pretty new to the whole texting/cellular bit and this part is making me want to smash my phone. I just started a new job and it takes a lot out of me, leaves me spent and wasted at the end of my shift.
I almost just threw the damn phone out my car window on the way home, i'm easily frustrated after my shift is over and if my window was down it wouldn't have bounced back into my car this morning.
Edit:
An app solution is not the answer, not even being considered. I won't increase the overhead on the device to solve this problem, and if that's the only answer then it's either remove texting capabilities completely or be done with cell phones as a whole.

That's weird, same thing happened to me a while back when I gave my number to my college, i kept getting random calls all the time, the only way i fixed it was to change my number.

I'm pretty sure if you call tmobile, they will just block them from your plan entirely. I believe I did the same when I didn't have texting on tmobile. Similarly, I have AT&T block my data so I don't use any mobile data. I lose my picture messaging in the process, but it's much less of a headache than getting extraneous data charges removed every month...
For someone who types so much, I'm suprised you don't have texting blue
Very simple solution - login to your account on tmobile website, goto change services section and you would see a Block all chargeable messages option. It's FREE!

Interesting - I called CS and they said I would cost some dollar amount per month to block texts.
Wouldn't be the first time wires got crossed there, I'll check into the web portal next time I log in.

Okay, that was worth crawling out of bed for.
I found it in the website under my plan options.
Hopefully it works.

Well, posting I can type at my leisure, and this place exists to me when it's convenient for me.
Text messages get sent to my phone at the most inopportune times. I'm either trying to work on something for development, or like now I was trying to get some sleep. Volume turned up because I have to wake up in two hours and get my day started, but i've been trying to sleep for the last 3 unsuccessfully due in part to a barrage of BS text messages from who knows who. Random that has nothing to do with me.
Also, posting here doesn't cost me any extra per post unlike the texting part that does.
I'm just aggravated at the moment, and prone to solve problems with extreme solutions that provide final and irrevocable resolution.
I hate texts too, I think I signed up for the minimal number you can get, just because I have some friends who seem to only communicate via text. But, if you turn off all texts, you can still get a bill reminder sent to you via e-mail.
Am I right that this issue is due to the annoyance factor and not to the charging factor? I don't know how tmo bills SMS, but here in Canada, there are a couple of service providers that charge good money for INCOMING SMS messages (IMO complete fraud since you can't control somebody else sending them).
If it IS due to the money factor, then there is nothing you can do at the handset level to stop the money flowing out of your account, since they are billed at the network level.
If due to the annoyance factor, best option would be to modify the MMS application to add in a screening feature.
ALTERNATIVELY, there is a setting in the MMS application to disable NOTIFICATIONS (however, this would also block notifications for billing messages).
If you can get tmo to send billing info to your EMAIL instead, that should negate the need for SMS/MMS notifications. In this way, SMS messages will accumulate in the SMS application, but it won't pester you with notifications about it.
Thanks for the responses.
Haven't had a problem with it from people since blocking text messages in t-mo 'my account' settings on the website.
Now I have an issue with T-mo sending me a notification text message daily about taking advantage of some thing because of my insurance.
Gonna have to call customer service and see what I can do about that, because I really want to keep the billing notification.
Modifying the sms app on the device has crossed my mind, but with how much work I've got going on right now I just don't have the time to look into even something that small for dev.
Once I get on the road and start travelling for my new job I'll have a lot more time, but leading up to that I need to get as much cash on hand as possible to account for hotels and travel costs until I can get myself into the re-imbursement cycle.

Text messages taking over 3 minutes to send?

On average how long does it take you guys to send a text message? I just sent 2 text messages in a row and it took over 5 minutes for both of them to send. Usually takes over 3 but this one took a little longer. Is anyone else having this problem? I am stock rooted running some xposed mods...
Something ain't right. My texts are going out as they are supposed to: instantly.
Running CleanROM with some extra mods and also Xposed for Sense6 toolbox.
I hate to state the obvious, but do you have a low signal? Are you sending pictures or just plain texts? The only time I experience send times this high is when I have a low signal or am trying to send a text in an unusually crowded area. I am also rooted and running xposed, so unless one of the mods you are using has something to do with texts or signal, I would think it would have to be one of the above.

Im usually on wifi for most part of the day, but my signal is usually good. I get solid 4g. I am mostly just sending plain texts but I did just recently get a new job and apparently it is right next to an at&t tower and I literally don't have service for a full 8 hours. I do use wifi there but i still cant receive text messages. Could that have anything to do with it?

Yeah, unfortunately WiFi won't help you at all with plain text messages. If you have no service there, that would explain the huge send times. With Wi-Fi, you'd be better off to use Facebook Messenger or Google Hangouts data messaging feature instead of texting. Those services use data to send and receive messages so the WiFi would be utilized by them.
