[Q] Rooting confusion - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

I know that rooting gives a super user privilege to android owners, but i have to know that is that compulsory to install any custom rom after rooting my device.am now satisfied with my stock rom (not afraid of losing my phone ) but i have to stop unwanted running programmes from my phone.I am not rooted yet, ready to root any time. What i have to do to root my phone (safest and simplest way) and to stop unwanted running programmes.
Hope a sudden Reply.

No need to PM any DEv, I guess they are too busy on the development.
You can write any question here and many experience user can answer your inquiry.
You can root your device and stick to stock ROM and remove any programs that you didn't want to use.
Use Titanium back-up from the market to erase them.

[Q] Rooting & rom noob - help needed

I have few question and dunno where to start. First, I downloaded some custom ROM and I want to install it, is installing new ROM same as rooting ? If not, how to install that ROM which I have already downloaded and ROOT my Galaxy Ace ?
P.S. I'm kinda afraid of rooting I get it as some sort of scary **** to do :S But since I can't update to 2.3.6 since this stupid Polish firmware doesn't let me to do it, I want to change to another one. And I want to ROOT it so I can move some apps to memory card so I get more RAM
I would really appriciate some useful advices

Thanks I should have searched first >.< Btw after I install some other firmware and root my phone, would I be able to update it via Kies ?
Thanks for the answer again
No buddy, once you root Kies will be useless. You may be able to find the most up-to-date rom and root it.
If you go for a custom rom usually developers update it to the latest firmware version.
Just be careful on what your doing to your phone. Read the tutorial 3-4 times before starting the process and make sure you have everything.
Also.. make sure you check task manager and end task all KIES apps. (KiesAgentTray KiesPLR etc)

[Q] Couple of Skyrocket/rooting questions

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forums and looking to root my ATT Skyrocket. But first a problem I've been having with it regarding wifi. The ability to connect to and hold a strong wifi connection isn't working right now. Even within ten feet of a router I still have the weakest signal and I don't understand why when my iPhone has a full wifi signal from the same spot. Anyone else have this problem?
I did some research and discovered some people complaining that the bloatware app ATT Smart Wifi was messing up their connection. So I want to root to get rid of bloatware, block ads, etc.
I also would like to install Cyanogen 10 (jellybean) onto my phone running 4.0.4. Now this doesn't require rooting, correct? But I want to root beforehand so can I flash this afterwards or will it cancel the root?
Basically I'm wondering if there's a specific order to flashing after installing a CWM, and if I can root and have Cyanogen 10 at the same time (and how).
And I have checked these helpful threads:

Thanks for your time guys!
if your going to put a custom rom on your phone its best to have root even though it is no required and you can run a custom rom with root. majority of the reason for custom roms is for permission access to enhance the phones capabilities. and first thing you need to is root after your rooted you can flash any custom ROM that is made for the SKYrocket and root permission will stay

So how can I root my phone and get the rom? Is there a way? It's the order of flashing things I don't understand. And your guide will be helpful once I know this, thanks for taking the time to create it!

its stated in the sticky, quote from sticky:
TO INSTALL CUSTOM ROMS ON STOCK PHONES YOU DO NOT NEED TO ROOT THE PHONE , ALL YOU NEED TODO IS INSTALL A CUSTOM RECOVERY VIA ODIN, THATS IT. SAMSUNG MADE THE SKYROCKET VERY EASY TO FLASH CUSTOM ROMS.
ROOT IS ONLY REQUIRED FOR STOCK PHONES TO REMOVE BLOATWARE AND/OR MODIFY SYSTEM FILES FOR STOCK FIRMWARE, IT IS NOT NEEDED FOR CUSTOM ROMS AS THEY ARE ALREADY PRE-ROOTED.
ON STOCK FIRMWARE YOU NEED TO USE ODIN TO INSTALL THE TAR.MD5 FILE(NOT THE ZIP FILE) OF A CUSTOM RECOVERY(CWM OR TWRP) - ITS THE FIRST AND FOREMOST THING YOU NEED TO DO TO YOUR SKYROCKET TO BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING ELSE TO YOUR PHONE LIKE FLASHING ROMS AND ROOTING THE PHONE.
I REITERATE: YOU NEED TO INSTALL A CUSTOM RECOVERY BEFORE YOU CAN ROOT THE PHONE OR FLASH CUSTOM ROMS, YOU DO NOT NEED TO ROOT THE PHONE TO INSTALL CUSTOM ROMS.

i dont know how to make it any clearer, rooting is not needed to flash roms.
flash cwm or twrp, then flash roms
for flashing roms, read the post for the rom u want to flash

[Q] Which root

Hello,
My GT-P5100 is currently on stock 4.0.3. I would like to root it, but I have no idea which guide to follow. I found these 3 to be somehow equally good:
1st: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657056
2nd: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2101044
3rd: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957165
Which one would you recommend to me? What are the main differences? I do however plan to flash other ROM and kernel if that helps with decision.
Oh, and the last question - will I use any data with rooting?
Thanks!

Follow which ever guide you find the easiest to understand, there is no right or wrong way to root - I'm not an expert so i'm not sure on the differences.
however i used CF Root when i rooted my tab (now updated to CF-Auto_Root) <--- so that would be my recommendation.
I would not use the 2nd link you posted as they are for different versions of the tab you're wanting to root.
the last question, i dont understand much (maybe that's just me) do you mean use data as in 3g? or loose data like files and things? to be honest it wont matter, because rooting won't affect either. Flashing custom roms will affect your personal data.
PLEASE - once rooted, make a backup of your working rom, then backup your EFS folder - if that gets corrupy you have an expensive paper weight!
Thanks, I will try CF Auto Root. Should I install CWM after that? Is it needed for AOKP?

CWM is a custom recovery which enables you to flash roms and make backups amongst other things. Please read up about them before you start rooting or flashing as you could end up rendering your tab useless if you don't know how to use it correctly. Did I mention backup. And backup your efs! If you don't your imei could get corrupt and you can't use the tabs data connection, wifi or bluetooth.
Let me recap the process:
1. Follow CF Auto Root process
2. Backup EFS (with stock recovery)
3. Backup ROM (with stock recovery)
4. Follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722063
5. Flash AOKP milestone 1: http://aokp.co/supported-devices/?id=17&device=p5100
Is that correct? Anything else I should take care of? But if I make backups with stock recovery, won't they be useless in CWM? Or do I have to redo them in CWM?
Thanks.
Errr, no you need to cf auto root, THEN flash cwm. Sorry if I wasn't clear in my last post, I was telling you to make a back up in cwm. You kind of need to flash cf auto root to gain root access from your 1st link then follow the 3rd link you posted to flash cwm. You need to download an app to backup your efs, cwm won't do that for you.

Ok, so:
1. Follow CF Auto Root process
2. Flash CWM with Odin
3. Backup EFS
4. Flash AOKP milestone 1
But which app should I use for backup?

right, hear me out - are you sure you're ready to root your tab? only asking because all the info you need is on this forum but you don't seem really sure on how to do it. I dont want you to follow my advice (and that's all it is) then bugger up your tab.
have you tried searching google for back up efs? or looked on the play store? there is a tool called kTool.
Please do some more reading on what involves rooting and cwm and all it's processes, also read up on preventative measures to avoid bricking your device - no one wants that (you dont want to be another member posting in 2 weeks time saying you cant connect to any data)
sorry if i sound condescending, i just think reading all the info is much easier than getting a breakdown from someone else.
p.s i added 3.2 in your steps above - Don't forget to backup your rom (leaving something this simple out could be life or death )
good luck.
I'm already running on CM10.1, thanks for your help! Process is actually really simple, but instructions are bad and outdated.

feel free to make an updated guide  I myself have the (i think, the more common) P3110 - wifi only tab 2 7" - those guides are a little more up to date - just a quick note - cm10.1 is running 4.2.x - Most 4.2.x roms are less stable than 4.1.x roms meaning you may get some issues.
Glad it all worked out for you. happy flashing (ROMS )

1- you should port other phone's rom to your phone and then flash it.. only then will you be able to use that rom on your phone..
2- Google stock rom/original firmware <your phone 'name> .. if its available on the internet then you will find one.. or else you will need to do a nandroid backup or extract it..
3- there is no general rom which works on all phones rightaway.. there is cyanogenmod which is by far available for all phones (don't know about Chinese phones) .. but you will have to do some tweaks or modification to work on a specific phone because different phones have different hardwares..
4-4.1.2 is jb and not ics.. you will have to put cm10 or probably delete the bloatware installed by your supplier..
5- as i said before you need to port cm9 for your phone.. there are many noob friendly guides on xda to help porting roms.. check out

does your phone has locked bootloader or UNlocked one?
I have a same problem...any ideas?
How good are these phones?
very good phones
A suggestion...
I'm not 100 % you can do it but there is a slight chance you can root your phone through fastboot ! Maybe pushing the su binary and apk through adb and giving permissions or maybe flasing a custom CWM Rrecovery through fastboot and flashing an SU flashable zip through that recovery !
BUT be awere BOTH of these methods are BIG MAYBE ! I can not test and I can not ensure you any of these will work !
You can get a flashable SU package here :
1) Superuser : http://androidsu.com/superuser/
2) Super SU : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
you can
yes you can
i know page on Facebook that support me to root my device and install cmw
Chinese smart phone support
I used this to root my i9400, hope it helps!

[Completed] [q] alps sm-g900h mtk6589 laggy phone

Hi all,
Can I replace the ROM of my phone to earlier versions?
The manufactures have done a mod of JB 4.2 to 4.4 KitKat but the ROM have a lot of bugs, sad , my question is, can I flash a 4.2.x stable ROM from for example a S4 clone ROM? Plus, my download mode is fake because everything is chinese.
And also, with the attachments and using CPU-Z.

Hi.
Unfortunately I was unable to find any support or info about your device on xda. If you have the stock firmware or a nandroid backup, you could restore the old ROM.
You can also try a factory reset and set up your phone again to see if that sorts things out.
Another possibility is to root your device, install Titanium Backup app and freeze/uninstall bloatware to reduce burden on phone resources. This might (or might not) reduce your lag. Please proceed with caution and only if you know what you're doing as injudicious use of this feature can cause system instability.
Short of that, I'm afraid your only option is to contact the manufacturer and request for a downgrade.
