I used to have an HTC Trophy a while back, and I remember that there was a way to upgrade the memory in the device to 32GB by taking it apart, and swapping out an internal SD. Is that possible with the 8X?

What about going from 8 to 16? Can you upgrade the internal 8 to 16gb?

The flash chips are SMT. If you have the equipment, know how and guts to do it, you'll still need to clone the current chip, then restore it to the new one, so I said not possible. Technically, everything can be done, but it's just not practical.

Ok, thats not in English! Wish this was as simple as jailbreaking an iPhone. Plug into computer, run app, install cydia, voilà!
Forgive my newbie question. Since this is just root.. Do we still have to use the side load wonder machine to get the app on in the first place? Rooting just allows us to do all the good stuff but att restrictions are still in place with out a custom rom?
Can't downgrade rom
Can't downgrade. When trying to downgrade the rom I get to HBOOT but its says "Model ID incorrect! Update fail!" Am I doing something wrong?

The Radio S-OFF step allows you to SIM-unlock the phone.
I F'ing LOVE YOU
Attn1,
First of all many thanks for the hack kit, I knew it was possible and you made it happen.
Hoping you can also post directions on how to put the Inspire 4G back to stock in case we return our unit for whatever reason, mine would only be for a hardware defect.
Thanks again!!
This is probably a stupid question (but I'm new to rooting and such), but can you still use an sd card for data storage after utilizing it as a gold card?

Yes, absolutely.
I read in some gold card guide that while you could do that, it's better if you don't. I don't remember the reasoning though.

I quickly read through those instructions. I believe you need an emulator on your phone and I'm assuming there isn't one by default. Any suggestions?

I am confused right now, what is the gold card way everyone is talking about? When I rooted my Captivate(my first Android phone). I just used the odin3 one click root. Will this phone have that?
I'm new to inspire... And I Know to be rooted one must make a gold card my question is if I get a new sd card will I loose root... Currently I have a 8gb sdcard but want to Upgrade to a 16gb card
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
Nope, the only way to lose root is to flash a non-rooted rom. I upgraded to a 32GB card last week and everything is working great.

Just remember if you get a new SD Card then all your CWM backups are stored on the old one unless you transfer them over.

So I get it that the only way to lose Root is to flash a non rooted phone, my question is if I was to replace the SD card but save the gold card, flash a non rooted Rom and want to go back and reroot the phone would all I have to do is reinstall the first gold card and run the root process or do I have to recreate the gold card once again?

Actually, on the Inspire, S-OFF is rather hard to revert. Just flashing a stock ROM or running a stock RUU won't do it. You need to go through most of the rooting steps, then run "gfree -s on", then run the RUU or install stock update.

OK Gene so really the only time I would need a gold card is for S-OFF and or returning to factory stock S-ON correct me if I'm wrong here. I just want to be clear as to pertaining to the security of the Gold Card. and when we would need or not need it. The captivate was so easy to root and or unroot to factory stock, The inspire is a bit different.
Thanks and didn't mean to highjack this thread but I do think these are valid qestions that need good answers.
Cheers

A gold card has but one purpose: installing an official update on a device that is not the same model as the update was intended, period. For instance, installing the downgrade ROM (which is for DesireHD--model PD9810000) on an Inspire (model PD9812000).
If you're S-OFF, then no such restriction exists so you don't need a gold card to revert. You don't need it to install the official Inspire RUU either since it has the correct model ID.
Do i need it? YES
Does it work? NO (well sometimes)
Why? DUNNO
Roms, Kernals, Radios, Re flash, You name it. Done it!
Why does it work sometimes?
Could it have somthing to do with SD card?
Someone give us a clue!!
Definitely try a different SD Card - mine works without issues.

Respect, however you figured out any understandable question from phux ache´s Post!
Just tried SD card from my old HTC Desire, no change.
SDcard or bad Rom flash.. if you're 100% sure its not one of those its probably a hardware problem.

Nothing has been disabled. The rest of the 16GB you're not seeing is taken up by system files.
Not the same as a phone with an sd card slot. I used to bash Apple for this, then HTC does it... at least its not an 8GB

Unless you're planning to delete all the system files and use your phone as a paperweight, there's not a whole lot you can do.

There's actually a disclaimer when you buy the phone that not all of the advertised storage is available for use.

Mate, you haven't mentioned that your SD "slot" had broken !! Now I seen OP, then it was changed.
In your case, you have to repair it by Either HTC or Any local repair stores.
