Hello!
We have a small community in Hungary with this tablet, and this method has some serious problem that came up for a few people including me.
After the first boot with a rooted tabled, gapps going to crash many times. The only solution was to reinstall gapps from CWM (from the cyanogenmod source). After the second boot AOSP keyboard started to crash. Others had problems after a week of use. They had infinite boot loop and the only solution was to flash the original fw.
Do anybody else had problems like this?
after a few attempts, it worked like a charm... thanks for a nice and clear tutorial...
if only there were some custom kernels for this device...
btw in developer tools - how can you enable "Full screen anti-aliasing"? it's grayed out and unavailable...
one more thing
on the official Prestigio web site and in the device manual it says that this tablet can't be charged through usb port - not exactly true...
i used my android phone charger and plugged the usb cable to the device and charging worked (it doesn't work only if plugged in the computer usb port)...
but i don't know what happened - usb charging didn't work today (maybe it has something to do with rooting of the device - it worked yesterday when it was unrooted) - if i figure out what happened - i'll post it here...

You have to downgrade first. After the reboot with the 3G older firmware your tablet will be a non responding brick, but don't worry it has to be this way. Push the power button and the tablet going to power off.
Anyway as I wrote, after rooting most pepole got many problems (chrashing apps, bootloop ect.) and the community is too small to solve problems like this. Easy rooting method is still needed.
You don't have to worry, you can flash the factory firmware to your tablet even if it's a halfbrick, you can do rooting safely.
I tried it a while ago. I have ROOT now! Great. This way is right. THX
-----EDIT-----
Some trouble with automaticaly close some apps has solution in wipe/factory reset, wipe Dalvik and Cache and format SDCARD. I have not any error messages now.

so is there any posibility to have anything newer than 4.1.1 for this tablet? (even with small drawbacks)
did anyone manage to succesfully install some of the other rk3066 based roms on this multipad?

Hey,
I recently got a hold of a Nexus S as a friend of mine gave me his phone as a gift to replace my Iphone 3g before he left out of the country. I love this phone, cant seem to put it down but now I want to upgrade the phone to ICS or JellyBean. I was hoping if someone can point me in a direction of how to upgrade. I cant seem to find any info on how to upgrade with a rooted 2.3.7. The phone I have is a Nexus S I9020A with 2.3.7. I am also including a screen shot of the phone settings. Please go easy on me as I just jumped in to the world of andriod and Im loving it! From the research i was getting from google i was wondering whether I should go to stock 2.3.6 and then get OTA for ICS, as I read how rooted phones do not get OTA. So I was hoping if someone could lead me to the best pathway to upgrade, if it is true that you only get OTA for unrooted phones I would prefer those upgrades. Thank you so much for your help!
first go here :http://www.randomphantasmagoria.com/firmware/nexus-s/i9020a/ download 2.3.6 GRK39F Full ROM...
2:download 4.0.4 IMM76D - IMM76D from GRK39F
3:download 4.1.1 JRO03E- JRO03E from IMM76D
Copy the 3 files to the storage card.
power off phone ..
press the power button and the volume up button ..now you see the recovery ..
wipe data/cache/dalvik
install zip from sdcard
first 2.3.6
reboot
second
imm76d
reboot
third
JRO03E
reboot
thats it !!
Or avoid update on update **** and flash stock JB from images instead : https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
thank you for your help, i downloaded those three files and put it on the phone. once i get in to recovery I do not see wipe data/cache/dalvik. Everytime I select recovery it gives me a blank screen for one second and then takes me back to the same screen but on the top it says fastboot mode - no boot or recovery img

Make sure you have everything backed up. Try titanium backup.
Boot into recovery. (make sure you have a new version of recovery. If you want google - nexus s install cmw recovery
Clear/wipe everything in recovery, you will have the option to wipe phone and clear cache. You need to do this before changing roms or your bound to get errors.
Apparently A701 has now got a JB update.
That's the file that i'm snitching now:
Acer_A701_AV043.RV08RC01_AV051.RV03RC02_WW_GEN1_1348812627085_4fb53b48.zip
Grab here:
http://www.multiupload.nl/YFJ8SRR4W5
UPDATE
Now there is a way to fully upgrade ANY 4.0.4 device to 4.1.1
!!!! WARNING !!!!
THIS METHOD WILL WIPE ALL DATA FROM YOUR TABLET, INCLUDING INTERNAL MEMORY CARD (unless you carefully read all instructions)
You have been warned
Prerequisites: Acer A701 running 4.0.4 with unlocked bootloader and CWM recovery 6.0.1.1
Steps:
1) Download
1.1) Image for 4.0.4 http://www.multiupload.nl/L8GPOS9KLQ
1.2) Patch for 4.1.1 http://www.multiupload.nl/54LUR8HYHV
1.3) Image for 4.1.1 http://www.multiupload.nl/IEWOOJMHX0
2) Put patch 4.1.1 to an external SD card (not required, but helps a lot)
3) Boot to fastboot (adb reboot bootloader)
4) Install new image via running flash-ics.bat (that will give us a 4.0.4 image that will definitely upgrade to 4.1.1)
5) Rebooting to CWM (adb reboot recovery)
6) From within CWM install patch downloaded in 1.2
7) Reboot the device. 4.1.1 will start. Reboot it again to fastboot (adb reboot bootloader).
8) Unlock the bootloader (fastboot oem unlock)
9) Install the 4.1.1 image (flash-JBRoot.bat)
Reboot. Task complete.
To revert to 4.0.4 once 4.1.1 has been installed
1) Boot to fastboot (adb reboot bootloader)
2) From fastboot boot to CWM (fastboot boot Recovery6011-411Compatible.img)
3) From CWM install the original 4.0.4 image
If you have 4.1.1 and need ROOT
Start with step 7
THIS WILL STILL WIPE ALL DATA FROM YOUR TABLET UNLESS YOU KEEP READING
IF YOU WANT TO KEEP THE DATA ON YOUR DEVICE
Edit both .bat files and delete the -w parameter from the 'fastboot -w flash boot boot.img' command
So what now?
Can I just use this zip and install via CWM? If i'm not on V 028 can I safely install?

Current CWM doesn't have the "getprop" command for whatever reason causing this update to fail. Also CWM we all have is for "A700" causing update to fail. Suggested installation type is to
1) Download
2) Format a micro-SD card as FAT32
3) Rename downloaded file to update.zip
4) Put to root of the sdcard
5) Start tablet with "VolDown (button with 2 dots)" pressed down
6) Update "should" happen.
Potentially a "Stock" recovery is required but i'm investigating
Geeez... So sorry, I didn't properly read the title, therefore didn't see that it is for the a701... -.-

it's possible to adapt the update.zip file but battery life would not be as good (as the GSM layer is enabled so)

Why do you want to update A700 with A701 ROM? And then after you brick your device, you gonna start whinging and begging everyone in the forum for their help to recover your unit.
Are you so desperate for JB? Do you even know the difference between JB and ICS?
Now waiting for the respected modders to pick this up and give us a custom JB ROM
Can someone who has updated this successfully and is rooted provide a system dump?
Code:
busybox tar cvf /sdcard/system.tar /system
And upload system.tar from your /sdcard
Vache - we need you!
Requires professionals to do over this update to a full castom. For installation on devices with unlocked bootloader :silly:

Which CWM recovery version? 6.0.???
And did you make your backup with the original CWM version 5.xxxxx? Because if you did, it probably isn't going to work, and your tab will need to go to the service center for a mainboard replacement.
A sure sign is to go into CWM, and try to do your Data wipes. IF you can't do your Data wipes, she be bricked Matey.
If you can do your user data, data and system wipes, then you just have a bad backup file.
I would do all your wipes, and try the restore function again. Sometimes I have to do this on my 501 when restoring. Shouldn't have to tho.

I always can use any adb in recovery mode.
but only by using your link, now I can adb using USB debugging. Thanks.
Anyway, I found that it is not easy to flash recovery for unsupported device. I want to try CWM or 4Ext Recovery but they support only most popular devices by auto detect and one click flash. I tried to find the way to suite CWM or any recovery binary into a custom devices but seems no easy or general idea + require linux machine. Some said flash will overwrite /recovery but sometimes they copy somethings to /system if I check the recovery.img source. Normally there are boot, system and data partition but where recovery binaries located is still unclear to me. I am thinking I might need to resize partition on device originally without recovery.
Are you able to flash CWM in your device? How is that possible?

yes i had flashed CWM on my device
in bootloader mode (guide is given)
the CWM i had flashed just replace the recovery ramdisk and your original kernel will be same
so you can try it
there is enough space on rk3066 (16 MB for boot and recovery so you dont need to do anything)

I followed the instruction was able to flash the ROM to my D70pro ii running 4.1.1 (ROM 20121220), but now it is running in a boot loop, it will only boot to cwm 5.5.0.4, it wont boot to android 4.1.1. I tried to make recovery, it say cache recovery not found. Now, I think my only lifeline is install .zip through SD. My question, should I try install cwm 6.0.2.7 or should I install Darkwater's custom ROM. I hope I can make a factory stock ROM first before I venture into custom ROM. Unfortunately, I dont have a choice now, any suggestions, please?

I have in my possession the romdump, stockROM 1101, darkwaterROMv.1 and CWM 6.0.2.7; How do I use my romdump to get me out of the reboot loop or what can I do at this time to get my tablet back? TIA,

This thread will help you to update and root android version 1.4.2 on your galaxy tab 2 (P5110 only).
This solution requires access to a PC running Windows.
This procedure was tested on stock 4.1.2 ROM and may not work on other versions.
WARNING:
I am not responsible for bricking your device, using this thread is at your own risk!
Requirements:
- Odin (download)
- Latest galaxy tab 2 android firmware (download)
- Clockworkmod (download)
- SuperSU v1.10 (download)
- Samsung usb drivers (download)
Process
Step 1:
Copy SuperSU v1.10 to the root of your SDcard.
Install the Samsung USB drivers.
Step 2:
Make sure Samsung KIES is not running on your computer!
Step 3:
Make sure your tablet is not connected to your computer or another power supply.
Shut down your tablet and turn it on holding both power and volume up (right) button pushed.
After some seconds you'll see a yellow triangle, push volume down now.
Step 4:
Connect your tablet to the computer and start Odin.
When Odin is succesfully connected you should see a orange box lighting up. (in Odin)
Step 5:
Extract P5110XXCMA2_P5110OXXCMA4_SMO.zip to a place you can find it.
In odin, click on PDA and select the tar.md5 file you just extracted.
Step 6:
Click on start and let Odin flash your tablet.
Step 7:
When flashing is complete your tablet should restart, turn it off again and repeat step 3.
When you're in download mode again click on PDA in odin and select GT-P5110_ClockworkMod-Recovery_6.0.1.0.tar.
Step 8:
Click on start and let odin flash clockworkmod on your tablet.
Step 9:
When flashing is complete your tablet will restart once again, turn it off again.
Start your tablet by pushing volume down and power at the same time (not volume up)
Step 10:
Once you are in recovery, use volume button (UP/DOWN/LEFT OR RIGHT) to move around and POWER button to select an option.
Select install zip from sdcard. Choose SuperSU v1.10 file you already copied to root of sdcard.
Step 11:
Once you're done flashing you can go back to the main page of clockwork recovery and clear cache.
When that is finished you can reboot your system
That's it!
Your device has been updated to version 4.1.2 of android and rooted with superuser.
WARNING: Do not install ROM Manager until developer says app will support Tab2 10.1 < Posting this because someone bricked their Tab2.
In addition, ROM Toolbox may not work properly (1 crash reported).

I recommend doing a full backup of android in clockworkmod recovery (use step 9 to get into clockworkmod recovery)
This is one of the first tutorials I've ever made, and I made it in a limited amount of time.
Iff you have any feedback please leave a reply, also leave a reply iff your flash was succesfull
Have Fun!

You can install the update above, it will reset your recovery to default.
That way you'll be able to flash the new recovery
Thread changes: I deleted superuser and added supersu, this way root will work.
Hi,
Thanks for the tutorial.
We bought 2 Tab 2 10.1's yesterday (It's our wedding anniversary on Monday these where the gifts we bought each other) and after spenging last night flashing PA, CM and PACMAN I settled on a stock rom.
All the others just don't have the right feel..... Where is the Sotmax rom when you need it...
Any way so my tablet had root and a custom rom installed already (and a back up) and was stock after flashing.
For the mrs I just followed this and all went according to plan.
Only thing I can say is the link you have to teamhacksung.org is broken.
I did also flash philz touch straight after this.

Latest galaxy tab 2 android firmware (download) is a super slow link. Anyone got a faster one?
For those who need the download links here they are, they all work!
Clockworkmod
UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.34.zip instead of v1.10

Odin

samsung usb driver is bad link
anyone got a working one?
I think that, if Kies is installed on your pc, you dont need to install samsung usb drivers again...
I've updated my Tab 2 to 4.2.2 but am largely unimpressed so wanted to use this method to root and then install a custom ROM.
If I use the Android firmware from the link above, will I be back on the older version of Android (which doesn't bother me), or do I need to follow all them steps above but use the 4.2.2 rom from somewhere?
Anyone?
Wow, no love. Was wondering the same thing. ^
Can I use this method with stock JB 4.2.2?

No. There's a different root method for 4.2.2. Android-Andi posted a root method for that firmware in the development section. It's in here somewhere...

Tablet : TF300 wifi only
Unlocked : No
Rooted : Yes
Version : US_epad-10.6.1.27.1-20130711
Problem :
Updated to latest JB version OTA. The wifi kept disconnecting after a few minutes automatically. To fix this I tried to use the build.prop from this thread here. I used the version which said 10.4.2.9 tweaked when in fact I remembered my version was 10.6.x.x. I did make a backup of the build.prop file.
NOW THE TABLET WON'T BOOT!! IT IS STUCK ON ASUS LOGO AND I HAVE NO RECOVERY AS MY TAB IS STILL LOCKED.:crying:
What can I do with the build.prop backup file???!!
Please suggest a solution. I bought the tab in USA and live in India where they don't sell it so I'm not sure if the customer care will be able to help me out even though it's still under warranty.
Thanks in advance!!

Seems like others are having issues too. I recommend flashing a custom recovery then flashing a ROM I recommend cromi
Or you can extract the build.prop from the official blob file.

Could you please let me know how to do that? Or direct me to the right post? Cuz I can't boot up my device and while I can open the boot menu screen using volume+power keys I don't see the usb option(maybe because of the locked bootloader??). This post here isn't giving this option (to do anything with the boot menu screen) for locked bootloader. Please advise.
Thanks in advance!!
I came here from your post at my guide. Please follow these instructions to fully recover your tablet:

========= Recover /Downgrade from Jelly Bean to ICS/Clean Factory Restore with stock recovery =========
1) Download the latest firmware from Asus website
2) Extract the .zip file somewere on your desktop (the result will be another .zip file, use it for step 3)
3) Rename the extracted archive to "EP201_768_SDUPDATE.ZIP" (without the " ") and upload it to a MicroSD card
4) Insert the MicroSD card in your tablet and use this button combination to Power ON and go to recovery --> Start the tablet by pressing Volume Down and POWER togheter for 5 seconds ,a message will inform you that you have 5 seconds to enter the recovery, press Volume UP before the 5 seconds expire.
At this point the device will go in recovery and should start updating your firmware .
Note: Keep in mind that Windows doesn't show the known file extensions so most users don't have to put the .ZIP extension in the filename.
