Just advising that once I build my new desktop I will start creating apps and ROMs.
The computer I am going to build will have:
2 1TB SATA hard drives
16GB RAM
I7 processor
High end video card (still researching)
4 Monitors
I will dual boot Linux and Windows 7
I am going all out as this will be my first computer I will build from the ground up and I want it to last.
Any input ( i.e comp specs and android dev material) greatly appreciated.

ssd ... makes everything faster, especially if you're compiling from a 10gb android git repo
Cool. Thanks

High-end computers are going to be required to compile the ICS source code! This is crazy, and I'm sure it will halt development for quite a bit.

am afraid so....check out the OFFICIAL information

snippet
"-6GB of download.
-25GB disk space to do a single build.
-80GB disk space to build all AOSP configs at the same time.
-16GB RAM recommended, more preferred, anything less will measurably
benefit from using an SSD.
-5+ hours of CPU time for a single build, 25+ minutes of wall time, as
measured on my workstation (dual-E5620 i.e. 2x quad-core 2.4GHz HT,
with 24GB of RAM, no SSD), "
That isn't bad at all. RAM is cheap and anybody with a socket 1155/1156/1366 could add 16GB total and meet the specs quite comfortably. An SSD will help, but then it always does!

Problem is it will stop a lot of younger devs as they can't afford a high end PC.
Mine is
4gb DDR3 ram
2.6quad core
2tb storage
Does everything I need uber fast but isn't good enough to compile ics how odd.

Actually every pc is enough to compile ICS(if storage is enough), it'll only take a lot longer to compile ICS on 4GB ram.
It's a pity, but it might be required to do lots of optimalizations or something.
it's well known the one xl has very limited storage. with 16gb to start, 2.34 gb to internal (1.95 gb available on mine), 9.93 gb phone (821mb available on mine), and the other 4~ish gb ????, i only have room for another app or two a few pictures and a few songs. anybody come up with a good solution for this? other than cloud storage? i like music... A LOT, so i prefer to keep it on the phone to save data and battery. and i like a little freedom with my apps and pics.
Wrong forum. This belongs in Q&A, not Development.

Cloud storage. Mind you I have nearly 600 pics and 3 gigs of music and I still have 4 gigs left.plus all my app are installed.

If I were a huge media user I'd get one of those goflex wireless drives.
Here a link they sound awesome, but I wouldn't use that much space, cloud works good for me.

Also airstash looks promising for half the price and add your own SD Card.

it's a damned shame that it looks like OTG won't work for us since the USB port doesn't supply power.
My birthday is coming up soon and I have decided I want a tablet. I was thinking about an iPad but I want a tablet that can replace my laptop so it would need Flash player support.
Now I have read in numerous places that Jelly Bean will not support flash. I also noticed that flash player works in Chrome (for android) now and it didn't used to. So would flash sites (such as streaming sites) work on Jelly Bean because of Chrome?
And finally, I don't want to spend a tonne because it is my 16th and I will be getting driving lessons so I am stuck between the Asus transformer 300 and the Nexus 7. I have been drawn more towards the transformer because of the keyboard dock (understandable since it is a laptop replacement... Right?) but I also wouldn't mind the Nexus 7 since you are always guaranteed the latest and greatest updates since it is Google's tablet.
So, suggestions?

I'm not bothered about a camera on a tablet, in fact, I probably won't even be using the camera on the back (if I get the Transformer).
It's more about which one would be a better replacement for a laptop.
Streamung, browsing, emailing, watching movies.
I'm thinking the Transformer because of the keyboard as I mentioned above.

Do your own research. Use Google. Other peoples 'good' tablet may be different to yours.
And, finally, do not bump your thread on XDA. If it is interesting it will get replies, otherwise it will die the death it deserves.

Acer Iconia Tab A500 32GB Dual-core Cortex-A9 10.1 inch Android 3.0 Tablet PC + WiFi
in my opinion, the Acer Iconia Tab A500 32GB Dual-core Cortex-A9 10.1 inch Android 3.0 Tablet PC + WiFi can meet your demand.
you can search this item on google to review the specfication. As i know, this tab is android honeycomb 3.0, 32gb storage, support bluetooth, wifi, camera and 3g !
The 3G is the only tempting part (and the specs) but I can't go back to Honeycomb. It's uglyyyyy!

Is it possible to Port Win7/8 RT on our Folio?
Maybe before this we need a over clocked kernel!!!
Sent from my GT-I9001 using xda app-developers app
Almost the only thing I know about Win8 RT is it is closed source. So I suppose a port is not possible. It also eats insane amounts of storage. I read some time ago that in 32 GB Surface tablets, 16 GB were for the OS...
So I saw a ROM that makes your phone run on Ubuntu. What exactly is Ubuntu?

Ubuntu is another kind of operating sistem, buty it's stiull being tested and is suposed to reun smooth on devices that have at least 1gb of ram, the good side of it is that it uses the same code as android so android developers will probaply be able to make the apps available for ubuntu aswell, the downside of it is that if it uses the same android code it will be compatible only for phones that run originaly on android, as a android alternatove and no other OS is supported (when Google estimated that a open source system will speed up phone tech I guess they knew what they wore sayng)
