Official Jelly Bean update coming soon? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Lately I've been reading about Samsung releasing Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S II in Singapore. I assume that means eventually they will push it in the US market as well. Is this an indication of a Jelly Bean update for the S II Skyrocket as well? Are the updates for S II and S II Skyrocket different? Just trying to gauge what the chance of an official Jelly Bean update being available for my phone soon.

As for your question, there's an answer here (<--link).
The SII and the AT&T SII Skyrocket/Rogers SII LTE are two totally different devices. The SII international has different hardware. The international SII LTE i9210 is more closely related to our phone but it's still a different device (notice the lack of "LTE" in "SII"). Our phone is SGH-i727/SGH-i727r. Do no confuse these phones as you will most probably end up bricking your phone because you didn't read up enough.
To sum it up, when searching for roms always look for model number, unfortunately model name is no enough. Always read all the stickies in this forum. Always use search thouroughly with different formulations/synonyms.
Good luck in your future adventures. :good:

Thanks. I searched briefly, but didn't come across that. So Rogers is getting it in late February, so AT&T will probably get it around the same time?

Probably, you could download the Rogers update from here if the AT&T release is too late it'll work just as good.

Since there's a 4.1.2 leak in the development forum that works pretty damn well already, I'd say they're working on it.

I noticed a Kies update with today's date tried to load on my computer this morning. (but failed because I'm at work behind a rather huge firewall)
The exact same thing happened just before the ICS release (and the other releases when I had the original SGS)... While correlation does not necessarily mean causality I choose to feel optimism.
I'll allow the Kies update and restore my phone to the most recent stock ROM when I get home, and we'll see what happens in the next few days.

I can't see the JB official update is near , I would guess around March or April (from the previous experience with Samsung and ICS) ..

It's actually 6.4 now. Embryo is basically modified leak while we also have an official JellyBean release from Rogers (yes this works on your AT&T/Telcel phone). You can root it, add rom customizer and pdroid 2.0 yourself if you want to.

I got this today.

Are we getting Ice Cream Sandwich...??

So guys .. are we getting ICS.......
let us get all our rumors and news about that in this thread....
Don't be shy to post please.........
IIRC samsung annouced those following models to be updated to ICS (in the 2nd trimester of 2012 hahaha ):
Galaxy S2
Galaxy Note
Galaxy Tab 10.1
Galaxy Tab 8.9
Galaxy Tab 7.7
Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
For others... we don't know ! Sounds this pact with google that is "you must update your models 18 months after their releases" is ****.
2nd Trimester? Probably saving that release to see if the world exists after 2012 LOL.
yes I know the truth

Clearly someone doesnt know what GTI9XXX Family includes. If they wanted to be specific, they would have kept it at GT I9000 and exclude the XXX's, I didn't know you worked for Samsung to declare that.
i really think we will get ICS...because it is not logic that the ICS will hit all the tabs and only one phone.....+ its only an operator from italy who said that......

Well if we believe what google's been saying on how ICS will "unify" all android phones, there might be a paradigm shift once ICS starts getting released on a few droids. A MAN CAN HOPE!!!!

1. The author is fan of Apple.
2. The author didn't say that all updates for old versions of iphone work very bad on them. Also even for Iphone4 didn't get Siri!!! But it's just marketing. And so on.
Also yes this is the one problem for any producer: they don't want update old phones they want to sell new one. And Samsung one of them. Also because of this they didn't create drivers for original Android, but create useless ROMs and it's hard to support a lot of different ROMs and port to them drivers and their bloatware
the rumor that all GTI9XXX devices will get updates came from a rumor site only and not from an official samsung statement
doesnt mean we won't get it and neither that we will get it for that matter
however, our I9003 is not one of samsungs flagships or even very popular outside of asia/pacific areas
i read somewhere that samsung came up with our "inferior" device to be able to save up recources for amoled screens for the S2 and thats why we got an LCD
So in all honesty i really doubt we will get ICS
On a good note though, now that the Galaxy Nexus is coming, the S2 should be getting a bit cheaper and this device WILL get ICS
And a last sidenote... I wish the new Nexus would come with an sd card slot but then again, you can't have everything
if not offical i bet someone will port ICS for our device just like it got ported to galaxy s
Ported roms aint as good as official ones

Don't expect sammy will give an update to this miserable phone.
one thing for sure i9003 is a dumb phone, nobody want this phone even if we sell this at low price.
one recommendation is to move to another phone, and stay out of samsung phone.

As long as it does what you you want/need its all good!

That Same Old Question - Should I get this phone?

Probably a question beaten to death on this forum over the last year, but need some advice.
Am in NZ and can order the phone from here
http://www.mobicity.co.nz/samsung-galaxy-s2-hd-lte-e120s.html
Have spoken to people in NZ about getting this over the standard S2, Nexus and the Note. However the HD just seems to combine all of the above into one great package. Good camera, great screen, size and 1.5ghz Dual Core what's not to love?
My reason for asking is, will I be disadvantaged through lack of support being in New Zealand?
As I doubt we will see an OTA update to 4.0 EVER, is the phone easy enough to root and upgrade to ICS without worry about OTA?
Anything further you can supply to eleviate my fears is greatly appreciated and again sorry for rehasing this no doubt tiresome question.

Even in little ole NZ?
Now, tell me, is that phone I linked to in my OP the same dam phone? lol
The Samsung E120 isnt the same phone as the Skyrocket as the E120 was only released in South Korea/International. I'm guessing the US version for ATT would be Skyrocket HD which will have similar stats as the Skyrocket with the 720p resolution. Not sure if that will release since Galaxy 3 is pretty much coming. As for being in NZ I doubt that would be a disadvantage, of course to utilize the 4G LTE you need to be in that area.
As for OTA updates, if they do have any then you can download them via WiFi, heck I'm paying $20/month for data plan for only 300mb on my phone of course I'll get the update via WiFi lol as those updates aren't that small .
As for Samsung Galaxy SII phones in general, yes they are easy to root and update to ICS, of course that also comes with the great support developers have in making it easier for us. So I'm not entirely sure the support for that specific phone if there is a community behind it but if they did an OTA update it should be fairly easy to get.

Just remember - Vodafone in New Zealand (and I assume Telecom is doing it now too) is using 900 MHz for 3G to expand their network. This is happening in some rural areas where there is little to no 2G coverage. What this means, is since these phones ONLY support 900 MHz for 2G, you get no service in these outlying areas where there is only 900 MHz 3G coverage... I found this out the hard way recently with my HTC Nexus one...
I was a little hesitant at first but when I was able to get the phone for 0$, I jumped in. Big incentive. The 4.5" screen is great. A 5.3" NOTE screen would be nice as well but not available for 0$, maybe next year.
After using the phone for a couple of months I am pleased with the hardware. One quibble worthy of note that has never been mentioned is the lack of video stabilization when recording in HD. I had to purchase a tripod/mono-pod setup that would allow me to shoot some stable video. Don't let this be a deal breaker. Remember, this is just a friggin' phone! Any serious video should be shot using a dedicated camcorder. Overall, a good device.

Recently some internal informant had access to a Nexus tablet, and had decided to do a benchmark on it. We have received the result from the benchmark and they are naturally pretty well. The “Google Asus Nexus 7″‘s benchmark were also very informative on the hardware that the tablet includes.
Google’s $199 “Nexus tablet“, appeared online this week in Rightware’s Basemark ES 2.0 Taiji benchmark test. Most of the details revealed in the benchmark match up with what was previous reported. The device will be made by ASUS, feature a 7-inch display with 1280×768 resolution, and use NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 processor.
What’s new in this benchmark result is the Android version 4.1. Rightware tells us this is the only device they have ever seen to include Android 4.1. The device also featured a software build number JRN51B, which is important because J represents Jelly Bean.
The device also has the model name listed as “Nexus 7″, which could be the final product name.
Some of us had speculated that Jelly Bean would be a major release and become Android 5.0, but this new evidence suggest it will be more of a minor update and be labeled Android 4.1. We reached out to a second source who claims to have seen the Nexus tablet, and they also said it was running Android 4.1.
Details are still limited, but we are told that Android 4.1 will feature a user experience very similar to Amazon’s Kindle Fire. The device will feature multiple home screens that are dedicated to different types of content (music, movies, books, etc).
We are just a month away from Google IO, when this “Nexus tablet” is expected to be revealed, so look for more details to leak over the coming weeks.
Hopefully these benchmarks are from different tablet as I would like to have 9.7-10.1 inch tablet instead of 7-inch which is only a bit larger than Galaxy Nexus
i'll love to have this tablet.. the price fits perfect to my budget.. but i have to say that.. Android it's going way too fast.. i think ICS it's good.. (REALLE good) and if u pull out a new ver. so fast.. you won't let all of your users taste that great SO call it ICS.. If the SO sucks.. i understand.. but it's great.. relax android.. we are just having fun with ics..
Yeah, it's great idea but ...
Now in the GT-I9001 is already 4.0.3 without STABLE camera and we wait ... too long for it. Now ? 4.1 is new challenge for our developers ... and we need to wait another long time for it ...
The thing its not that we wait too long for the devs (not complaining at all) it's just that their going too fast.. that will bring problems to the devs of roms and apps.. not all the apps are ICS compatible.. if they start to doit too quickly will bring problems.. (personal thought)

Thank god the tablet isn't 16:9. I'm really looking forward to it.
Edit: I spoke way too fast. It is 16:9, with a little added height for the nav bar. Unfortunate really.

This is wrong. Apps will be fine with the move to Jellybean. It is just the fact that ICS was such a major upgrade to merge the tablet and mobile OS. That is the reason some apps are weird. And now that you say that, I can't think of an app that is incompatible with my Gnex. Don't expect Jellybean to look different than ICS...people around here have some weird expectations. Google isn't going to completely revamp their software every year...
Of course i don't think google will come up with a major update.. there's not sense at all.. but what i mean is.. is it really necessary?.. in my opinion.. no.. just personal.. i prefer one major update.. than a lot of little updates.. we can be happy 'cause the devs are great.. but.. those who prefer to wait for oficial updates from their manufacturers?. If we (those who try a lot of third party roms) wait some time.. it's nothing compare with the waiting for those who prefer stock roms.. i just know that I want that tablet..

Listen. Ice Cream Sandwich has been on 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.0.3 and 4.0.4. All Jellybean means is they decide to call it 4.1 instead of say....4.0.8. Most users can't tell what software they are on anyway. My wife's Sensation just got ICS 2 weeks ago in an OTA. She can't tell the difference.

Can't agree with you.. the way all the numbers are put on the codenames.. or versions (call it the way you wan it) every one of those have their explanation.. it's not that simple.. Google won't call it Jelly Beam just because they don't want to keep updating ICS.. and they prefer to call it other way.. i know there are a LOT of ppl who can't know the difference from ver. to ver. I just gotta wait.. and see what Jelly Beam would be.. 'cause at the end of all.. if it's better we all gonna update aour devices.. if not.. we stay on ICS.. The next nexus device? or devices lol

I am able to upgrade in september, and was wondering if i should get galaxy s3, or wait for the next nexus or nexuses, because i heard they have better development support. Is it worth it to wait, or is there enough support on s3, being so popular. Also, how long would i have to wait for the next nexus
Nexuses have great support, but if you need a phone now go ahead, the s2 is getting jellybean.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nexus devices get updates directly which is fantastic, there is no waiting involved for manufacturers to add all the bloatware. I have an S3 and know that Samsung will be quite dellayed on any jelly bean update, so I have just accepted that any jellybean I get will be a custom rom but I'm okay with that. Personally my next phone would be a nexus, but I have enjoyed my S2 and currently love my S3

they really are, ive been burned thrice times..sadly ..only reason i tested the nexus is because i knew google was supporting it...if you dont care about the mediocre features of the s3 or dont care for touchwiz i suggest you wait for the next nexus..if you care about them then get the s3..but im sure you know or if you dont know..samsung is horrible with updates ..i got the behold...smh..then the galaxy s..wow..then the galaxy s 2..shouldnt have been shocked..see they dont really build up to much talk about updates..they let it ride for a year..then drop a new phone thats better and forget about the last one..if you dont care about support and updates and dont mind touchwiz and its features then i suggest get it..im not bashing the gs3 for anyone thats reading this, im just stating whats happened from past experiences and my experience with the s3, its a beautiful snappy perfect little phone well little isnt the word lol..but the features it offers if you care about customization and what not are just a gimick. if you dont care about customization like most general purchasers or just dont take the time to figure out how to do then you should get it

I highly highly doubt that will be the next Nexus device. With those specs, there is absolutely no reason for someone with a Galaxy Nexus to upgrade.

As far as I remember HTC promised to give all the One series phones Android 5 ( Lollipop ) in Q1 2015.
Anyone with connections with HTC know if and when approximately the update will come ?

Lol, what would you do if Lollipop still wouldn't be released? Throwing your phone away, because you don't want the previous OS/version anymore?!

I have got this phone since it's release, back in 2013, it's getting old + the forum is kinda dead + HTC has never given this phone full support, it doesn't even have an official released RUU.
Don't get me wrong i love this phone, i just want to get something more up-to-date and with better specs.

That would've been strike #2 by HTC.
First of all, they should be more than thankful for us putting up with their faulty engineering ( hairline cracks ).
At least they could keep the phone up to date and tweak its performance as much as they can as a "payback" for the hairline cracks.
Second that's breaking their own officially given promise about bringing Lollipop to the One Mini.

Cracks weren't the issue here! And for best performance you should use a custom rom (I never used an official rom with all the google-crap, but wait for a working Lollipop that hopefully will be reduced to minimal).
no lollipop for htc one mini...
HTC canncelled their plan to update the mini 2 to lollipop. So I highly doubt we are getting it :/

Legally they have to update it... theyve stated in many advertisements two years of updates for htc mini and mini 2....Mini updates will run out in august so still time for an update (pic below)

I like how Lolipop is sutable to run even on 1Ghz singlecore 512mb ram devices, but HTC cannot make it for mini versions of it's flagship cuz of and i quote - 'technical constraints with the device's ageing hardware configuration.'
What a lot of bull! another marketing strategy from HTC... THROW AWAY YOUR ''OLD'' MINI AND MINI 2 DEVICES AND BUY 'ONE MINI 3' WHICH WILL BE SOON AWAILABLE AND HAVE LOLIPOP!
I am officially saying that i WAS a HTC fan (my last 4 devices was htc's = hero - desire - sensation - one mini) but seeing what a lot of bulls they have done for consumers(even more than apple) on it's devices next device im considering some other company than HTC!
Sorry but they have finnaly lost me with it stupid money making scheme rather than thinking for consumer ! :crying: This is too much now!
Guess who won't be buying any HTC device. FU HTC.
I would not write it off yet. HTC UK just posted new updates page here . One mini is listed there so it is supposed to receive additional update at some point.

It's gonna stay like that.
Devices that have something coming up describe the level of completion if you check

At least it is listed even if no update is currently in the process. My understanding is that devices listed are supposed to receive update sometime in the future. Others just fall into "Unlisted" category...

You're dreaming buddy.
HTC replied to me on Twitter again today.
There will be no Lollipop from HTC for the One Mini.
It's final, final, final.
