CM10 small tweaks and RAM. Post your setups! - LG Optimus 3D

Hello!
Are you on cm10 or any cm10 based ROMs? Is your phone rather fast? I am on Jellybam v 4.1 and i've used it for some days now. (it's the longer I ever stayed with it) and I am planning to use it as my daily driver but after installing a few apps and so the phone gets very slow.
What performance improvents and configs that works are you guys using and does it speed it up? Maybe I am the only one feeling this though  .
This can also be a thread with tweaks, improvements, benchmark posts etc.
Also, how can I increase my RAM with Swap? I know how to partition but not how to activate it.
Btw I can not flash another kernel as I am on wkparks v25a and if I do that I will end up in a recovery loop!
Thank You!

Well I myself am using the lagfix app from the play store on the latest cm 10 nightly. The app works and it's not placebo. The speed increase is most noticable in launching apps.
If anyone else tested the app please share your experience.

Here's a few of my settings:
On performance settings I changed CPU governor to hotplug, then I/O scheduler to CFQ then zRam to 26% and finally enabled kernel samepage merging.
All this on performance settings from CM10 I also can't flash other kernels because I'm using bernis dual-boot... anyway seems better on performance no freezes only battery drains a bit faster but I guess that's a cm problem.

Sv: CM10 small tweaks and RAM. Post your setups!
Well there is the problem with the fps locking at a point on cm10 based ROMs. Iblueminds 4.2 doesnt have that so I am going to flash that tonight
Sent from my 3D phone.

Guys if you want to flash another kernel or ROM on wkparks 1.25a you have to
1. Downgrade to a u-boot lower than 1.24 with fastboot
2. Go into recovery and flash your ROM/kernel
3. Flah the 1.25a with fastboot and it should boot up fine.
This way you won't end up in recovery loop
:good:

I use the same settings. As well i use the Bluekernel II from iBluemind and i downclocked the maximum frequency to 800mhz and the minimun to 196mhz for a better battery life. It's enough for my daily use without any lags and freezes, but i don't play games on the phone

This is the best combination I think so far:
Odex system and framework. Create a 64mb swapfile on either the system or data partition and set swappiness to 85. This makes all my cm10 and cm10.1 roms smooth and fast. On stock cm kernel too.

Is this exclusive for mazel rom?
Or can we use this in stock ics?
Just flashed the kernel. For some reason unable to use WiFi. Not being detected. Initial reactions: pretty smooth. I'm on bb rom. Will test for a while and update.

Battery Life, yes it may be terrible as its only beta version. Its not because of OC. Its because i have not included all the tweaks needed for battery life. Still its in testing stage. Reason for including OC and having only 1.2 ghz is to test whether its preventing the game lag. Generally when i OC with limits and intermediate ranges as 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3, mostly the mobile clock in 1.1 ghz and very rarely going to 1.2 ghz. So i skipped 1.1 and included only 1.2 ghz.. Just a testing.
Will you add BFQ scheduler at a later stage? I have good experience with that and have been using it since I moved permanently to CM.

Let's try again : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1950052 - it's a "fixed" kernel by codeworkx for the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, my other device, which also had serious lags and freezes in ICS as our Galaxy R. Hope there is magic you can add from that to your kernel.
Ok now..included intermediate freq of 1100 and then the BFQ scheduler as suggested by Adam. Getting few compiler errors for BFQ. Will check it tomorrow.
And finally setup the environment for AOSP build. As Ubuntu 12.04 was not supporting all the branches to do AOSP build (though its gud for kernels), now setup a diff environment using 10.04. Will Start init/sync tomorrow.
Nice work buddy! You can spare a lot of upload bandwidth by adding a '.gitignore' file. It tells git to ignore the specified files so they will not be pushed. Get one (specified for kernels) here: https://github.com/Adam77Root/android_kernel_samsung_i9103/blob/jellybean/.gitignore

[Q] What's the best battery saver kernel for Sensation?

I'm using ARHD 6.8.0 and sebastianFM kernel. I set gpu frequency of 2d and 3d to lowest which is 200, but still when I play games it still drains as fast as when the 2d and 3d is set higher. I also set minimum cpu frequency to 192 and maximum to less than 1000 ghz but it still drains battery fast. By the way, I'm using Kernel Tuner App to tweak the kernel.
Is there a kernel with fastcharge enabled for sensation?
I want the kernel that's best both for gaming and browsing internet-wise.

If you play games, you will use more battery,no ,matter what kernel you use.
Play games=more cpu=more battery.

Make a full Nandroid backup first before you flash the Sultan kernel.
That way if you do something wrong in the installation and pick the wrong options in Aroma it's super easy to just revert and start over. (Though I think Sultan offers a "reset" option as well.) But still...you're doing something you'r enot familiar with so make a backup first.

The Powerful Kernel Reset included in my kernel's Aroma installer will erase init.d scripts left behind my many kernels (including my kernel) and it will then proceed to purely install my kernel with no init.d script included.

[KERNEL][CM7/9] Custom Gingerbread kernel [2.6.32-61][v1.0 RC2]

Custom kernel for the P999, Gingerbread version
--- Smooth, Fast, Efficient ---I've been requested to make this kernel because development for gingerbread (and ICS/JB hackfest) is dead for this device. You asked for a fast and responsive kernel, here it is. 'nuff said.
Original work by Faux123***Like always, I am not responsible for any damage to your device related to the use of this kernel!***
Instructions
1) Flash any compatible ROM (CM7 or hackfest)
2) Send the kernel's flashable zip to your SDCard and install it via clockworkmod recovery
3) Reboot
Afterwards...
- First boot might be slower, this is normal
- Adjust the overclocking in Settings->CyanogenMod Settings->Performance->CPU Settings. A Max CPU Frequency of 1015mHz is recommended if overclocking is not required. Remember to tick "Set on Boot"

So this is my first gingerbread kernel. It's based on Faux123's work, which is already well updated and relatively stable. I backported several memory management features which makes a good increase in overall performances and smoothness. This, of course, required some adaptations since they are "normally" only compatible with linux >2.6.37.
I will also investigate the CM7 bluetooth audio bug with the newest firmware. This is why I updated those drivers. If this issue is kernel-related, then there's something I can do.

Yes of course. Try it first and if you still get BSODs I will need a kmsg taken during the phone call that caused the issue.
Concerning the charging BSOD, I've been testing this kernel for some days now and left the phone charging most of the time and I had no problem at all.

Actually it's possible..Sometimes, BSODs on android are caused by a bad CPU frequency management from the governor. In some cases, the frequency would drop too low and the device will then crash.
If that's the case here, changing the governor to smartassv2 and updating it might've fixed that issue.

Ofcourse. It was the CPU governor, as increasing the min frequency to 51x MHz eliminated the BSODs during calls too. It was mainly occurred when screen turns on and off during call or during charge. Ur governor must hv fixed it. Anyway. One request. Can u get us the boot.img version for this kernel? as dual boot doesn't work without it.

Battery drain problem

Hi, I'm new to the development of LGO3D and the 4.1.2 capatibilites of it.. but i've got an idea for the battery drain problem.
I saw that in Ics and as well in Gb the kerner the second core is just off when it isn't needed. But in Jb it stays on all time and it's eating much more battery. I started to look alfter it... ( apks in google play and in the main android forum) and found that, it depends on a dynamic hotplug govermor [I may incorrect] and if we build it in Jb's kerners then the battery-drain is about in the level of ics.
I'm not a dev but if somebody get this working, then I would test it.
Download iodak's cm10 kernel and install it. it has hotplug built-in. As well as a buttload of others.
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda premium
Even stock kernel has hotplug governor built in so just change to it with setcpu or similar app from play store. On JB Ondemand is stock.

TeamApexQ (for their hard work on the Relay)
All the other developers who contribute to the D2 kernel upstream
Changlog 9/27/14
1.)Kernel updated to linux upstream version 3.4.104 straight from kernel.org and to B14CKB1RD v2.3
2.) Added Fast Charge support
3.) Added Optimax Governor and removed unneccesary ones
4.) Did various other fixes in source
As usual my personal preference is Wheatley Governor and SIO I/O scheduler as i get great performance and battery life with it
Awesome!! Thanks for your work. Great battery and performance with this kernel in liquid, carbon and omni! Thanks for do it

Which one do I need for cm11, is it TeamApexQ Roms ?
Can you rename the files to see a difference ?
I can't vouch for which one cm11 will use as its kernel varies between both...what happens is between my ROMs and omni/fat toad is graphical tearing...if one of these 2 causes this said tearing then try the other...I'd say try using TeamApexQ version first...

Thanks for your efforts! Here's the last_kmsg from a reboot today of this kernel flashed atop your latest Carbon ROM. Hope it helps.

Is there an app you use that accesses system files...such as WiFi related...especially one with a lot of ads...or anything...certain themes may also cause reboots as well as using certain kernel tweaking tools

Notice reboots typically occur when accessing data (Internet) but not only Wi-Fi. No games, just Googling something. Also, using no themes. Did use trickster mod to set up your recommendation of sio/Wheatley, but that's it.

That's most likely the reason you get reboots...trickstermod is a known issue on a few devices....you can actually set governer and i/o scheduler under performance settings itself....unfortunately there no known fix even if you uninstalled the app except for clean wiping....I do not use any tweaking apps and have yet to get any reboots

I also have trickster mod along with pimp my rom, and a few others. I have also experienced some reboots until I put min at 1350 and max at 1512 and performance gov and io scheduler row. To do a "clean wipe" does this mean a full factory reset. I hope not. That is just something I am not going to do. That's why I'm still on carbon and not on the liquid rom.

If I uninstalled these apps and reinstalled the rom and kernel after would that be enough to get the kernel to work as it should?

i suppose a uninstall of trickster mod AND pimp my rom and a dalvik wipe and cache wipe then do a dirty flash of rom and then do the kernel same method will work...but curious as to why use outdated and unsupported apps like this when it has it built into the rom itself....im not intending to come off negative but this app and kernel tuner has been widely known since jellybean to cause reboots and even bricks of some devices. the min cpu should also NEVER be set higher than 480....thats one way to really overheat and kill battery hence why i removed the mpdec touchboost that teamapexq uses
I'd love to add some (or all) of the governors and schedulers to the stock kernel (4.1.2). Do you have a github for the source? It would be super appreciated.

Interesting perspective. I've rooted and run many custom ROMs and kernels on a Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, HTC One m7, and Nexus 5 with Trickster Mod and have never seen that app cause random reboots if the kernel parameters are set within reason (no UV or OC). Maybe I've just been lucky, but that would be very, very lucky as that lack of reboots applies to every ROM and every kernel combination with every single device I've tried over a few years. Even though I'm selective as to what I flash, that's in the hundreds as I can flash several times a day. And all with Trickster Mod on board.
The Relay 4G just seems unduly fragile to me. I've seen it reboot more times in a week than the other devices I mentioned randomly reboot in a year. I'm certainly not blaming any dev for this (and am thankful for all the efforts put here) and want to acknowledge just how difficult it must be to squeeze these great ROMs into a device that probably wasn't designed to handle them. Again, no disrespect to the OP.

Well nexus devices are built pretty vanilla when it comes to android so its compatibility outreaches more....I've had reboots on every Motorola and HTC devices I've owned....I know for me I haven't had a reboot but I guess I'm lucky....but it could just be small incompatibilities in our code that may cause this and we just haven't found them or figured it out yet

Which is probably why, as a flashaholic, I stick to Nexi(?). My girlfriend, however, insists on a physical keyboard *sigh*.
Thanks for the ROMs and kernel; you're singlehandedly keeping this device relevant. Well, you and TeamApex.
Stop it so I can get her a new phone already...! (kidding)

I would just like to add, if I may, that after uninstalling those apps I have not had any random reboots. Also on a topic unrelated, that viper4android fx app does not play well with poweramp, got rid of poweramp.

uhhhh im using poweramp just fine....of course i had to set up sound settings within it....which i can guide you through that as well
Also...just to let people know...will be spending the rest of the week updating and further developing the kernel and various other fixes
