Gingerbread stock camera - General Topics

I just bought the new Samsung player 4.0 us version asks I am extremely happy with it although I notice that the default camera app had an extremely slow shutter speed. Is there a tweak that would make it faster? Thanks!

[Q] Absolutely no HW acceleration in browser/720p Flash?

Hello!
I'm a happy SGS user with flashing addiction and coming here in desperate need of help for my bro. Long story short, my bro is a total newb in mobile phones and computers and after watching my browsing experience which is totally smooth he bought a i9023.
After I tried it, his browser feels like theres no acceleration at all. Even 720p is like 3fps. Exactly like SGS with eclair.
What I dont want is to flash his NS and bring him into the addiction. He only needs a smooth browser.
Please help
I dont have much experience regarding this, but here goes:
Do you have any example of what kind of site he is trying to access? Would be easier for us to test ourself.
And, try the skyfire browser, maybe it is a good solution?
Miren browser.
Stock Android browser has no hw acceleration. Sorry.

Well I tried any website like gsmarena or xda, which is working smoooooth on my SGS?
Why you want me to tell you websites? Do you want to say your browser is buttery smooth like on my SGS? Am I missing something?
Is 720p youtube working on your NS? Its buttery smooth on my SGS with same hardware as NS and NS was supposed to be "pure Google experience" as in the best android experience among other manufacturers especially ones with SAME hardware?
Please help,
Luka

Use the browser I mentioned before, it's hardware accelerated.
Opera Mobile has full hardware acceleration. It uses a completely different rendering engine. It uses OpenGL ES to render pages. If you have flash installed you can select which flash objects will play on a page to save processing power and battery
+1 to Opera Mobile. Very fast browsing experience.

I don't know what you are talking about. Have you tried opera mobile on SGS? It is smooth as a smooth can be. Computer smooth if you understand easier. On Nexus S is definetely NOT smooth. Even 720p youtube is not working in opera mobile. Opera mobile is the best "smooth" browser I tried on Nexus S but is definetely nowhere near smooth. Try SGS Opera mobile and you will know what I am talking about.
I also tried Miren browser. Nowhere near smooth, opera mobile is more smooth. Tried even on my SGS and Galaxy tab 10.1v, both nowhere near smooth. I dont believe it has got any kind of HW acceleration.
Beware, I'm saying it again: My bros Nexus S is completely stock, even root is not obtained. I want it to stay it like that, because everything works perfectly for my bro except battery life s*cks and browsers are nowhere near SGS-smooth with identical SoC!
I'm still searching for help!
Best Regards,
Luka
Stock Android has no GPU hardware acceleration, period. All UI elements including everything inside the browser is drawn with the CPU which obviously is quite ineffective. Samsungs Galaxy phones are the only android phones with GPU hardware acceleration. So if you want it there's currently no other way as to get a Galaxy S II with TouchWiz.
To me and a lot of other people its a bug, see here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6914
Sadly Google thinks otherwise, closed the thread, effectively giving everyone a FU

CM7-SelfKANG1 for Optimus3D

Hey Guys, CM7 Alpha ist ready to downlod
nice, very nice!!!
but one Question:
do the 3D game/apps working?
Very nice! good news to start this week!
only 3 issues?? no other issues?? battery & performance same?
thats amazing start!!!! if this is the start then i think itll take very less time to get a very stable build!
Running awesome on my Thrill! Thanx dev
So. Awesome.
Can't wait to check this out, it would be on my phone right now if the 3d camera worked (I like taking 3d pictures too much, LOL).
Soon as thats working its on. I'm so bored of the stock ROM, this is just in time! Pretty soon lg can keep its boring gingerbread update for all I care arcee!

First feedback
Hi all,
This is my feedback after 3 hours test:
Globaly :
This rom is very fast, just change the default launcher by launcher pro or Go launcher. Everything work for daily usage.
3D:
You will have, after the installation 2 camera software (gingerbread stock) with exactly same name?. One is for video and other is for photo. camera quality is very poor, video and photo appear with green mask..
3D recording, photo and video, don't work for me.
No 3D games
No 3D gallery and other 3D LG stuff
you can play previously 3D video recorded with O3D with good quality but no 3D movies appear sidebyside and no way to change 3D format.
3D photo appear sidebyside.
Bluetooth :
A2DP don't work fine with my car, I can pair devise and play music but DSP application will crash and music stop playing sometime (and replay by self)
++
What the ****??
Moderators, please delete this thread. I'll open a proper one as soon as this goes away, it's a no-attribution copy of a post I made elsewhere.
pls delete this thread so arcee can create one and then i can ask a question
Ive doesnt use my O3D since 1 month, cause i only waited for custom Roms. Just got tired of stock Rom. I cant wait to come Home and test it. ;-)
Sorry for my bad english...

Smoothness in Honeycomb & ICS

ICS is a mix of gingerbread and Honeycomb and it has fully hardware acceleration unlike honeycomb which has partially.
I do wonder why navigating in ICS with a Galaxy Nexus isn't as fluid and smooth as let's say a Samsung Galaxy tab?
Here's an example on Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftljZ9yGsiE
And if you have used a Galaxy Nexus or seen video with it, you can clearly see that when opening the app drawer and navigating in the OS isn't as smooth as Honeycomb.
Could anyone clear this out for me?
I noticed that too, even apps running on GB is much faster than ICS . There are still many performance tuning work to do I believe.
BTW: by default , GPU acceleration in ICS is disabled , right ?

QuickSnap -best camera app on my opinion

Hi guys
I've been using this since being on Froyo and now on ICS MIUI.
Why is it so good? Simple :
Plain, camera only app (no camcorder, no effects), set to infinite focus it's the fastest, yet reasonable result camera. Only by using it can I catch my son running around.

excellent contribution by friend
Feel like bumping this
I tested this and didn't find it to be any faster than stock ICS camera.
if you set focus to infinity it is the fastest i've witnessed, plus it's small size.

If this works for you, please hit the thanks button!
Here is a youtube video of the process. If the youtube is unavailable the directions are below.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkEaJvXV6Uk
If the link is corrupt Follow these instructions
Download
System backup apk:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1245330&d=1344276357
and
o4xr.zip
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1297942&d=1346603576
Now that you have those, drop the apk into your lg directory. I chose the download folder.
Install the apk through a file manager app, I like Astro File Management.
Next unzip the o4xr.zip onto c: drive.
Last, open command promp. Type cmd in start menu search bar.
- In command prompt type "cd.."
- type "cd.." again
- keep doing it till all you have is c:\>
- Type "cd o4xr"
- you should now see "c:\o4xr>
- Set up your phone to do a restart. Get to the last prompt before the phone restarts and go back to command prompt.
- type "root"
- if your phone doesn't not restart automatically within 5 seconds, hit restart.
Now check out your apps. You should see SuperSU.
You're done. Congrats!

Who is your carrier? I just bought this 10.03.12 on Metro and the applications won't even get in Alphabetical order.
Is there a ROM or something for this. It is rooted and there are so many things I am not able to do that I was able to dso with a Galaxy S2. ( my G4ET was stolen so looked at this one)
I am sure the phone is pretty ok but the Metro behind it just Wreaks.
need original ROM

I am rooted and the process described worked almost as well as it should, except using the run command. I just went to those parts and double clicked them instead. BUT, i have a problem. I also flashed the rom given in the guide because of a brick issue deleting bloatware instead of freezing all of it. Now my phone is not the same. Contacts dont have pics imported from fb anymore and other things like making my phone discoverable dont work like they did at all. Its just not the same phone. Does anyone have an original Metro PCS Motion ROM? I wanna go back and start over now that I know what to do. My phone always ran at 1.5 ghz anyway. Please help!
This has s4 not s3 CPU. Benchmarks better than sgs3.

What exactly does any of that have to do with an original ROM from metro and how it functions? And even if the cpu benchmarks are "better" as you say, what exactly are you referring to? Is it the rescue rom, the 1.5 ghz kernal, or the original rom with the phone "as is" from Metro? I don't follow what you're comparing at all, nor does anyone else that happens across this thread! It's an LG MOTION, NOT A SAMSUNG ANYTHING!!! To make it clear, I bricked my phone after rooting it by deleting bloatware (instead of freezing it). I rescued it with another software that isn't the stock Metro ROM. I have since recieved 2 software updates, and had to re-root each time after installation because OTA won't update when rooted. Only an LG flash of the new software works. Maybe now I'm closer to the original (or better) than I was after the initial fix, but I don't know if I'm getting propper updates for the original Metro software (or the flashed fix of an identical, yet other carrier phone's ROM). It may have something to do with why my phone is sluggish compared to first day and many mods later. Also, they claim 22mb/s (max) in Clearwater/Tampa, FL. I get a max of 4 on a clear night in the middle of my street. My WiFi does at least 10 on a lesser signal.Does anyone have any answers to this bs? Well, I hope I'm not the only one with these questions. And maybe someone else will find a helpful answer from here on out. (Unlike the last guy's remark)
I'm looking into getting this phone as well as Sprint fees are becoming ridiculous. I'm online searching for roms as well but I'm not seeing any.
Any updates on this? switched from virgin mobile because the original htc one is a POS.
an updated android version on the lg motion would be killer, and maybe a resolution change?
