Hey all,
So I have a MyTouch 4G Slide, currently running Alpha 3 of Kornyone's cyanogenmod 10 JellyBean ROM, which was released on January 1st, 2013.
So, this ROM is pretty good for the most part, but it has some issues. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not the phone would be more stable if I were to instead put the official cyanogenmod 9 ICS onto it, and then hack Google Now into it? Google Now is just such a great feature that I am very reluctant to give up, but the issues with this ROM are starting to get pretty annoying, and I don't know if/when he will be updating it. So has anyone actually tried this? Would it be better than running this Alpha of JellyBean? Please let me know, thanks!
(Also, I apologize in advance if this is a noob question, to reference the noob video from registration, as this is my first post. But a noobs gotta do what a noobs gotta do, right?)
Welcome aboard, your first post went in the right section so props on that lol. Anyways I run CM9 as a daily and love its stability, it just isn't jellybean but you could always try this thread out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828334

I'm sure almost all of us are itching for CM7 to be released for the Galaxy S 4G. The question is when? It can't be that hard to port it, can it? I believe we're really the only phone without support. I can't wait to get rid of my default ROM.
I see that CM released a version for the Galaxy S. Does anyone think there's a possibility it might work for the 4G version of the phone? I can't see why not - it's 99% the same software (I assume).
there have already been a couple of cyanogen threads. search next time.

I am bit confused. Is there any way I can install Honeycomb on my newly bought Infuse 4g? I am not really versed on these technical jargon.
Thanks

Honeycomb is only for tablets. Preventing people from shoehorning it into phones is one of the specific reasons Google has withheld the HC source code until Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is released.

Maybe you are looking for gingerbread? It is available currently via Infused v2, assuming you aren't using a Roger's infuse that comes with it initially.
Sent from my Infuse using my fingers.
Yes, I think I meant gingerbread. How do I install it?
Thanks

Follow the instructions in the Infused v2 thread
so does that mean factory installed is infuse v1?

No that's AT&T Stock. Infused v1.x was a "cooked" ROM based on AT&T stock firmware with bloat removed and some custom tweaked.
Similarly, Infused v2 is based on Rogers stock but has customizations
Factory installed was Froyo 2.2.1. Gingerbread is 2.3.3(presently).
As Entropy stated, Infused is an aftermarket ROM that was built from the gingerbread source that he got from the Roger's Infuse. There has not been an official release for the AT&T Infuse in regards to gingerbread. Infused v1 is Froyo. Infused v2 is Gingerbread. None of it will be stock or "factory" though. It's all been tweaked and modified to run much more efficiently than the stock software.
can any of you be kind enough to direct me to the link where I can download and go step by step how to install it? I am bit getting confused with what Roger is is and what ROM is and etc...
and there are a lot of v2 thread

[ROM] Infused v2 - (08/15) - Development discussion, feedback, and bug reports only
infused infuse helping other infused infuses?
I just want to thank everyone who replied in this thread for answering this guys question and explaining it to him. Nothing miffs me more than these threads where someone immediately tears into a newbie telling them to use the search feature. Granted that should be tried first, but sometimes people are here because they are trying to learn something technical (without a technical background) and don't know how to effctively use the search feature. I've been in the field over 15 years and sometimes get irate with search tools not doing what I want. Anyway...I just wanted to say kudos to everyone for showing some respect (and manners).

Roger is Canadian operator just as AT&T is USA operator.
ROM is kind of operating system as for your PC.
For those who have AT&T Samsung infuse 4g they have stock rom as FROYO and so far ATT has not released Gingerbread for it whereas Canadian Infuse comes with Gengerbread.
So, GTG has made a custom rom based on Roger's gingerbread for ATT Infuse users(may be Canadians also using this rom).
If you do not know what rom is then i assume you do not know how to install it.
I suggest use your phone as it is and wait till ATT updates your phone to Gingerbread(when? i do not know)
And meanwhile read and learn about this stuff before actuall installing it.
Else you may mess up your phone.

People are usually more receptive to questions like this in Q&A, and he did properly post in Q&A.
Cluttering a development thread is what gets you torn apart.
Thank you all very much all being really helpful and kind. I was bit hesitant to post since you guys all seem really knowledgeable about all this stuff. Very glad that I found this site.
I have installed gingerbread to my tablet computer before and I am assuming that the process is not too different. It felt pretty easy. Tablet computer and smartphone is all very new to me. It is my first smart phone and very excited to play around with it.
Anways, just wanted to thank you all for the valuable information you guys post in here.
In many cases it's a matter of availability. If Gingerbread is not available anywhere for a device, it can be a MAJOR undertaking to get it working on that device.
That's why we didn't have any reliable Gingerbread releases until after Rogers released the Infuse with Gingerbread in Canada - prior to that there was no firmware to base things off of, and in the case of Cyanogenmod 7, no place to pull the vendor-proprietary components from.
However, until AT&T releases Gingerbread, any Gingerbread release you find will have some degree of "Canadian" flavor - no HDMI (Canadians didn't get it as a feature), somewhat limited data speeds in some areas, and in the case of Infused v2, apparently some apps actually treat English (USA) and English (Canada) differently enough to say "go away". (Mainly Amazon MP3 at this point.)
I am new to flashing, but I want to get ICS on my Samsung Captivate which will not receive an official 4.0 update from Samsung. There are multiple options for ICS roms; the two I have heard most about are Doc Master's and Team Hacksung's CM9 (alpha). Please leave comments as to the general stability for the most up to date versions of the roms if you have experience with them. I am not interested in a buggy rom; i want one that is stable and that has most/all functions. I am a little bit confused on both forums for these roms how stable these roms are. Especially Doc Master's (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1462035). It does not list any specific bugs for the versions; does this mean everything works? I'm new to this so I am confused.
Also, if I would flash one of these ICS roms and decide it is too buggy, or I don't want it anymore, can I get back to my stock Gingerbread 2.3.5 (what I currently have). If so, how? Is the best way to make a nandroid backup of my stock rom (does that work for stock?)? If not, what is.
I appreciate your help.
Help please!
Bump. I really would appreciate any help.

ICS rom
I have flashed the 2 roms you asked about. I liked them both until I found Dark Knights ICS 4.0.4. Everything works and it is smooth and fast. I have tried others also, I also liked MIUI but Dark Knights is the best so far for me.
If you search XDA you will find the answers to your other questions. You just have to be willing to read a few threads. When I started I screwed up just about every way you can think of and someone was willing to help me out.
If you go to You tube and search for videos on how to flash your Captivate, many will come up (I am a visual person). Look for videos from Josh at Mobile Tech Videos. He knows what he is talking about and is a great help.
It would probably be better if you posted this question in the captivate forums.
I would post the link but I don't have the power to do that yet.
As for your question, I am currently running the CM9 Alpha version and am loving it. It has been my daily driver for quite some time and I would definitely recommend using this ROM.
All of your questions can be found in the captivate forums. You'll have to read a lot but it's better to read more so you know what you're getting yourself in to.
I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question and admit up front that I'm a noob. I've got the XYBoard 8.2 running the OTA version of ICS. It's rooted, but other than that pretty much untouched. Do I have any options that will allow me to run Google Now, or am I stuck waiting/hoping or a Jellybean rom to be released?
I believe there was a way to port it to ICS, however it doesn't have voice search or voice commands...
I think there actually is a way to get it onto ICS and have voice search, however it is an old version and is stuck to an american accent.
EDIT: I have found a better thread than the previously posted one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747224
Other than the accent and the inability to update, it's pretty good.

The answer may be a custom rom
I was thinking about his last night and I think the answer may be that simply running stock ICS, rooted is not going to be enough. I will need to use a custom rom. I'll do some pecking around and try to find one. This may cause an avalanche, but if you've got any recommendations, feel free to pass them along. Lastly, I just want to confirm I'm not crazy and that there is no Jellybean rom yet available for the XYBoard 8.2. If there is, I TRULY apologize in advance.
Alright, so first of all I was reading some threads about the LG Source Code drop which would 'fix' some of the CM 10 problems and also release an official ICS for G2x? The thread was published on October 25th so I was wondering what is happening with this?
1) Is there an official ICS release?? (I rooted in the summer and have been on Hellfire 4.0.4 and CM 9.9.9 Jellybean ever since)
2) How can you fix the bugs on CM 10 like video recording, HWA, etc.?
I heard something about the kernel drop where you could fix CM 10 bugs in the thread I was talking about.. anyone know about this?
I'm really tired of going back to Gingerbread and Froyo to have full functionality, and don't tell me to dual boot, I'm not doing that.
Read the development section please. The O2x had ICS released, but LG confirmed that the G2x will not be. Therefore, we have CM10.1 with everything working but the cell radio, battery gauge (which is connected to the cell radio), and the GPS. The dev's are working on it, I won't count on it working anytime soon, but I think they will eventually crack it.
For your information I had read all the development news and various facts, but I was unaware about a certain thread. Also, Thanks for the information on the CM 10.1.
You missed a pretty important thread. It's become pretty popular lately.

This is the ROM we are rooting for.
Pardon the pun(?).
