hello,
When I am on a sense rom (currently I am using the Venom rom 4.1.1, sense 4+), I can use any radio and wifi tether with the phone screen off.
When I wifi tether on an AOSP rom (I tried Blackbean 6 and blackbean 7), the internet would not work when the phone screen turns off. (I would still stay connected to the tethered wifi network, but there's no internet connection). The only exception is using radio 0.16, which allows the internet to work even when the screen is off, but it only works partially. half of the time the phone's connection would get stuck in 3g instead of H; there would then be no internet connection, and the data network will just reset. Again, the network only gets stuck in 3g and reset when the screen is off.
As much as I love AOSP roms, I can't live without tethering. Anyone has a solution to this? is there something wrong with the radio configuration in AOSP roms for the one S?

I've noticed that my WiFi connection is unstable regardless of which ROM I'm using. I'm sitting less than 10 feet from my router and the signal is excellent yet my Fuze WiFi won't connect...I can't update 2.1 weather, can't open a page in Opera and IE.
Anyone out there with a solid WiFi connection every time they use it? Which ROM are you on? What are your settings/edits?
I'm desperate to find a solution to this since having a built in WiFi is one of the perks of the Fuze. And I don't want to be held hostage by AT$T ridiculous data plan.
i'm using EnergyRom Jan 27th build 21889. I've never had any problems with wifi for any EnergyRom builds i use. I don't really set anything up, i just turn wifi on, and just enter the WPA passkey and it's done, it's only a one time setup, everytime i turn wifi on it'll automatically connect.
There are tools like Wifi Monster etc that can show you the strength of the wifi signal, as well as tools that gives you options to set up an advanced profile (I think it's called Wifi Profile).......
do a search for Wifi in PPCWarez and you'll find what you need.

Thanks for the reply. I'm also on EnergyRom Jan 27th build 21889....I've actually been an avid follower of NRG Roms but have never had a consistent WiFi connection. I really don't know where I'm going wrong. I've been using the same WiFi for the past 3 years. I didn't have WiFi connection problems with RoMeo's Rom on my Tilt or on my Hermes. Just would like to have a dependable WiFi connection. I'm pretty sure it's not the Rom..just curious if I had things configured properly.
I am also having problems with the Wi-Fi connection on my HTC Touch Pro. It is very unstable and unreliable -it flies for 10-20 seconds, and then hangs. The problem persists with different routers. I am using the stock HTC ROM.
Performance Mode
Hi guys,
have yo tried switching WiFi mode from "Battery Saving" to "Performance"?
Start/Setting/Connections/Wifi icon
The same wi fi problem for me: it recognizes the network, it asks for the pass, but it doesn't connect.
i'm two meters from the router... any suggestion?
Try...
Change your wifi settings to preformance first.
Things that affect WiFi not particular to your phone:
1. Bluetooth on and active (same frequencies) on your phone as well as others
2. Other Routers (esp. if you live in an apartment)
3. Running Microwaves ovens
4. Other RF devices in the 2.4GHz range. (i.e. wireless keyboards, mice, novelty devices, etc.)
The only step to do is change your router at home to another channel and try again. If you are connecting outside your home, then you are at the mercy of the provider.
Hi everyone,
Ever since installing the OTA Android 2.3.5 with Sense 3.0 update on my Desire S, I've been having problems with the Wi-Fi. When I'm at home, my phone keeps connecting to a BT Openzone network nearby, and I have to manually choose my home Wi-Fi. I could understand this if the BT connection had a better signal, but it only has 1 bar compared to 5 from my router. I constantly tell it to forget the BT network, but the next time I turn Wi-Fi on, it connects to it again.
Is there any way to permanently forget a Wi-Fi network, or to tell the phone to default to my home connection?
Thanks.
I have got a problem where on sense 3.5 I cannot connect to a wifi network that is hidden. I put the correct details in but it doesn't connect. It will connect to other wifi networks fine.
It is not a problem with any other type of roms just sense 3.5 - I have tried every 3.5 rom for desire s and get the same problem.
Any ideas on this
i used to have that problem. i just change my laptop ip and voila it connect.
I don't see this problem. I using ednymion 3.3
From Russia with love by my HTC Desire S
tried changing the radio yesterday to see if that helped but still get the same problem, it won't connect to a hidden wifi network. It's a hidden wifi one at work and I don't have access to change any settings on there, need to be able to connect to it as I get a poor phone signal and rely on the wifi.
Seems strange that it only happens on all sense 3.5 roms. - the sense 3.0, MIUI and ICS roms can connect to it fine.
If you have change your radio, and if it doesn't work, try this app: Wifi manager app
What is the channel of your wifi network ?
Install Wifi manager.
And on settings, check 2.4 GHZ Channel, and complete (14)
and check 5GHz channels too.
Reboot after.
And try to found your wifi network.
It's an solution.

finally got round to trying this but I am not sure what channel the wi-fi network is on. It is a hidden one that I am not supposed to know is there so I cannot really ask about it, all I know is the SSID and the PW. Phone reception at work is very poor so I rely on the wi-fi.
I checked all the channels like you said but still cannot get this to connect to the wi-fi.
Tried 3 different radio's and flashed a clean install of a sense 3.5 rom and still get this problem.
Don't mind as I can connect to it fine using MIUI , I'm just curious why it doesn't work on 3.5 sense.
Thanks for the advice though
No problem.
That's strange your problem, cos I'm on Sense 3.5 since the beginning, and I haven't got any issues with Wifi network.
But If you have find a solution, it's good for you
As you can see from my sig I'm S-On with firmware 3.32 and HBoot 1.27, though I'd like to S-Off I haven't gotten around to it. Here's my problem: since rooting, I haven't had a single ROM where every type of wireless connection worked.
Sense 3.6-based with non-stock kernel: https over mobile, bluetooth
Sense 3.6-based with stock kernel: https over mobile
Sense 4-based before fastboot flash boot.img: https over mobile, bluetooth
Sense 4-based after fastboot flash boot.img: https over mobile, bluetooth tethering, wifi(!)
So yeah, since rooting, regardless of ROM or kernel, I can't connect to any websites or apps if they request an https connection (so no, it's not a browser problem) while I'm on a mobile connection. Over wifi it's fine. Additionally, the only time bluetooth tethering has worked was when I was on a Sense 3.6-based ROM with the stock kernel. Flashing boot.img through adb made bluetooth pairing and file transfer possible, but not tethering (despite the fact that the bluetooth symbol on my nexus 7 turns blue when I turn tethering on, which should mean I'm connected to google services). Not to mention, now my wifi is stuck permanently on "turning on...". I've been trying to fix this for a month and every time I do, it seems like I'm taking one step forward and another step back.
First of all, many thanks to the devs who brought these awsome Viper ROMs to us!
I have lately been experiencing strange problems when trying to use WiFi hotspot (it used to work fine until about a week ago). Now what happens is the hotspot initiates nicely, my laptop finds it and connects, but there's no internet connectivity. What is even more strange, my phone also loses internet connectivity (email, browser, you name it) as soon as my laptop is connected to the hotspot. When I disconnect the laptop from the hotspot, the phone regains internet connectivity.
My phone is Ville C2, I was previously using Viper 3.1.4 when the problem first appeared, then I upgaraded to Viper 5.1.0 and the problem persists.
Should anyone have a tip where to start fixing this, I would highly appreciate it as the hotspot functionality is quite important for me.
