What i have to do if i want to lock my phone's recovery and download mode?????
One of my friends found a Galaxy S, and when he tries to det in recovery and download he could not!!!! He tried everything but nothing!!!!!!
Is the phone hard-bricked?
If not, is he doing the procedure correctly?
Is this simply found or "found"?

Its not bricked.. He turned it onand it asked him for lock code.
He did not steal it because he found the owner and gave it back!!!
But I can't find out why he could not achieve R and D mode...

Maybe the owner reported it lost / stolen and the carrier locked it down, because recovery and download would allow a wipe and re-use by the finder.
Maybe he just wasn't doing it correctly. Those things can be pretty picky and easy to mess up. Not sure if you can really "lock down" a hardware function like that, but maybe.

Do you mean that he reported its imei and the carrier locked it down.????
My friend tried everything. He its not noon as he flashes ROMs to his i9100

Well im also not sure what a carrier's capabilities are as far as locking down a lost / stolen phone, but surely they have some method..And dont forget that the carrier's reps scan the imei at the store, or by putting in a sim, it detects the imei, so they have it. Perhaps they can send some kind of temp kill via sim?..

1) what's wrong with the volume rocker? did you buy it second hand? If not why not return it and get it replaced if its broken?
2) to boot into boatloader is volume down plus power button, but hboot versions don't matter on our phone. Its all rootable currently
The down button doesn't work I need to replace it. I've been watching YouTube videos on how to do this. But still need help on what I need to do. I just bought the phone today second hand for 75 bucks

I cannot tell you the specifics on replacing the button but here is a tool to reboot phone into bootloader. Download. Make sure you have drivers installed from HTC sync. Open folder and press start here. Read the read me, it has the command to reboot into bootloader.
adb reboot
UPDATE. I forgot to mention to enable USB debugging through settings->applications->development
Will try this out asap. Ill be back

Ace hack kit comes with a manual. Open up the folder and click on the "effen manual" and read it entirely. It tells you everything you need to do to make everything work. Make sure your USB drivers are current. Most people have USB issues that can be fixed by merely updating the drivers. It tells you in the manual how to do that as well.

Follow all the prerequisites and read everything down to the last section called FAQs. There is important information throughout the whole thing which attn1 has made this way so that you see the answer to all the questions people ask over and over. I would be going against the wishes of the dev if I told you any more than this. It really is easy though once you soak in all the info. Good luck. You can do it.
Yup reread everything tried downgrading that went bad also. I'll just I've rooted many phones b4 this is the only one giving me trouble ill just sell it.

You should probably stay away from buying damaged used phones. The inspire is incredibley simple to root unless its damaged.

I know you succeeded in rooting your phone, but there is a free app from the market called Quick Boot, which requires root, but allows you to reboot into recovery, bootloader, simply reboot, and power off. It may help you down the road.

No it was that dam code I was using the one on the zip lol I feel mad and dumb at the same time haha. So all I need is a T-Mobile sim card right. Will I have to unroot the phone to set up a T-Mobile account or an at&t account?
Thanks man but does it require the up nd down volume buttons. I'm planning on fixing it maybe next week.

I'm not completely sure if an Att phone will just work on a tmobile network. It would be ideal to activate it on Att or if you already have Att just pop in your sim card. If you are already on tmo, you could pop in your sim in and see if it works. I'm not sure if they need to be unlocked even with custom roms. Does anyone else know the answer to this?
Update: the volume button thing could be an issue if you ever soft brick your phone so you might want to get that fixed asap. It's the only way to fix a softbrick is through hboot.

Dont think so but as long as you won't try too many things you should always have recovery to be able to restore Stock ROM.
Have a look at my thread for a couple of backups
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1680570
By, "too many things" do you mean quantity of flashes or risky development?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
As a fellow samsung owner i know what u are talking about. The answer is no. And in fact, unfortunelty in order for u to restore from most soft bricks, you have to unlock your bootloader by using an app released by asus that unlocks your bootloader and sends your serial number to them in the process which will permenantly void your warranty. Once u unlock then u can install a custom recovery and install custom roms. And even still, if u are bricked to where a custom recovery cant fix it...u are screwed. If you are not unlocked...u are screwed if the default recovery wont fix it.

uh, my heart just sank lol
Yea i feel ya. This is by far the worst measures ive seen to deter unlocking the bootloader. The original transformer tf101 had the ability to nvflash which entails putting the tab in an alternate boot mode, connect it to usb and by adb it would recover from any soft brick u could throw at it. Unfortunetly they got rid of this feature with the 300
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
They didn't get rid of it. It was just recently released by Nvidea. It was posted in the Portal that AndroidRoot.mobi got it working for the Transformer Prime. It requires a modified bootloader, so you can't just use it as-is. I'm sure that either they or someone equally as talented can get it going for us soon. I don't think the Prime and 300 are too different from each other.

I didn't do anything with the IMEI except back it up using the terminal emulator and the "reboot nvbackup" command. Not even sure if it did anything or not. How do you reprovision the phone? What does that even [claim to] do? A google search shows a lot of people complaining about this. I hope someone comes along and helps too.

If you reprovision, it will wipe all your data and such. Idk if you wanna try it. I only tried it because someone suggested it, but it was pointless. So, if you were gonna try that, you would want to nandroid backup first. The way to reprovision if you're interested is dial *2767*3855# that'll do the trick for you. Interesting. I wonder what the reprovisioning actually does. I didn't flash CWM yet since I'm running the stock bootloader, and it is locked. I heard that unlocking the bootloader can cause trouble if an OTA update changes things on it.

About data/signal issue, that's not your IMEI. It more than likely is your sim card. I had to get 2 replacements from Verizon due to a weak signal. Another simple thing to try is to be sure data roaming is ON in the settings menu, and restart. That is known to work. Rooting prob did not cause this to happen, the S3 has signal issues to begin with. Do not start running scripts to attempt to fix without going through the verizon fixes first. Stay on stock rom, hide your root apps and bring in to get sim card. They won't check for root.
Plan B is to call *611 and speak to someone, they can push a signal code through to fix. Don't say your rooted!

Oh but we shall see what happens when I change towers. To compare, and diagnose this issue, how is your phone setup. Mine is as follows:
Purchased at: Small business authorized reseller
Contract: On contract
Purchase date: 9/5/12 (opened a new account, not adding a line)
OS/ROM: Stock 4.0.4
Rooted: Yes
Bootloader: Locked (had it unlocked temporarily to see if I could do it, but I relocked it to diagnose the data issue)
Recovery: CWM
ICS Encryption: Not turned on (I don't think I can use it now that I have CWM installed anyway)
Apps that run at boot: Call Recorder by Skvalex
Root apps installed: SuperUser (duh), Rom Manager, CallRecorder, Terminal Emulator (used it to execute "reboot nvbackup" as a supposed IMEI backup method)

So far all I've done is "reboot nvbackup" to supposedly backup my IMEI, but I have no idea if it did anything. I'll double check data roaming, but I don't want to rack up a roaming bill. Also I don't have to worry about my store finding out if I root. The sales guy helped me root it before I even paid for it.
The guy I dealt with helped with root questions for me too at actually vzw store... Funny! Sim should do the trick. And yes, that script you ran backed your IMEI correctly, so it's not that. Data roaming is to see if it improves issue, if it does, your having network issues that are not phone related. There is no reason to keep that option on unless your lost in the woods and need data!

Thanks was this way tested on Canadian phones as well? Also do I really need to bring the phone back to stock ROM? Will that unlocking method make my phone permanently unlocked or will it disapear once I flash to another ROM? And finally what modem should I flash it to, I saw several in that thread, not sure if that has to do with the service provider or phone type?
You should read more. You have to bring to stock, make a nandroid of where you are now. It will permanently unlock you.

in fact, when my sg3 had that issue ere u had service but couldn't make call or txt, and this was before the fixes were around so i brought to Verizon, and left TWRP recovery on it and she booted into it!, she actually was looking at the CPU screen telling her how to do it, it said to press power button, which obviously locked the TWRP, so lI said just swipe it, go to to wipe and do a factory reset, which to my very surprise she did, and after about 3 hours with the manager on the phone with tech support, they gave me a new phone.
If you are not in a rush. You could always buy and replace the USB port by buying one through eBay. They are like five dollars with free shipping ha
