Returning phone to Verizon, broken USB port, cannot flash stock firmware through Odin - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Help! I can't flash the stock firmware through Odin for returning the phone to Verizon. The USB port on the phone is broken. What do I do? Can I put the stock firmware on my SD and flash it through TWRP?

Yes you can but they can still get into recovery or download one and all but I don't think it'll be a problem.
If not flash an international rom and hard brick your device leaving no trace but a jtag lol jk don't do that

Or you can buy mobile odin and use that...

Verizon doesn't care. As long as your not sending it back because of something you did flashing or rooting you'll be fine

And why do you say that? They will find any reason to not honor the warranty.
Op use mobile Odin. You can buy it or the light version is available to xda members.

not saying do this, but I always send my phones back rooted.
in fact, when my sg3 had that issue ere u had service but couldn't make call or txt, and this was before the fixes were around so i brought to Verizon, and left TWRP recovery on it and she booted into it!, she actually was looking at the CPU screen telling her how to do it, it said to press power button, which obviously locked the TWRP, so lI said just swipe it, go to to wipe and do a factory reset, which to my very surprise she did, and after about 3 hours with the manager on the phone with tech support, they gave me a new phone.

If you are not in a rush. You could always buy and replace the USB port by buying one through eBay. They are like five dollars with free shipping ha

[Q] Help with semi broken Captivate.

My captivate recently stopped working out of the blue. I had rooted using One Click Lag Fix and sideloaded a couple of apps using the Android Central sideloader, but aside from that I haven't done any major modding. I turned it on the other day and it went through the AT&T screen to the Galaxy S screen, but it froze there for about ten minutes. I pulled the battery and tried it again but the same thing happened.
I called AT&T and they sent me a new Captivate. I now have two questions.
1) Is there any way to get my contacts off of my old Captivate? They were NOT synced with Gmail.
2) Should I flash the stock ROM onto my old Captivate that I am sending back to AT&T? I am worried about them saying that it is out-of-warranty because it was rooted.
PLEASE HELP
Yes absolutely put it back to stock or they most likely will charge you for a new phone. You're going to wanna remove all traces of rooting as that is a violation of the warranty and you will not receive any warranty work, repair or
Replacements.
Sad to say but no. Your contacts can't be recovered if you can't boot the phone.
Yes flash stock before you send it back. You should also find that it may boot once you do, if it does then you might be able to get your contacts back.
On a side note. Should always flash stock before calling att as it will normally fix your issue.

Help with skyrocket

So my girl just told me her skyrocket wont turn on and a battery pull. I dont know
anything about the skyrocket but having the GS2 for Tmo i feel like its pretty much the same device to work with. I have not looked at it yet. But my question is, is there any odin file that will give me root access and custom recovery at once? If i can get her phone to go into downloading mode i want to just be able to odin it and bam.
any suggestions?
shes running stock.

Look in the dev, section.... under how to root..
NexusMod 4 and faux123 version 10
If it's not rooted yet and is having problems, then don't root it now... Take it to att

As always, make sure the battery is inserted correctly. You can attempt a factory reset using the stock recovery (you would use the home softkey instead of the power button on the stock recovery) and see if that fixes it. If not, call att or take it to a store.

Dont think so but as long as you won't try too many things you should always have recovery to be able to restore Stock ROM.
Have a look at my thread for a couple of backups

By, "too many things" do you mean quantity of flashes or risky development?

As a fellow samsung owner i know what u are talking about. The answer is no. And in fact, unfortunelty in order for u to restore from most soft bricks, you have to unlock your bootloader by using an app released by asus that unlocks your bootloader and sends your serial number to them in the process which will permenantly void your warranty. Once u unlock then u can install a custom recovery and install custom roms. And even still, if u are bricked to where a custom recovery cant fix it...u are screwed. If you are not unlocked...u are screwed if the default recovery wont fix it.

uh, my heart just sank lol
Yea i feel ya. This is by far the worst measures ive seen to deter unlocking the bootloader. The original transformer tf101 had the ability to nvflash which entails putting the tab in an alternate boot mode, connect it to usb and by adb it would recover from any soft brick u could throw at it. Unfortunetly they got rid of this feature with the 300
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
They didn't get rid of it. It was just recently released by Nvidea. It was posted in the Portal that AndroidRoot.mobi got it working for the Transformer Prime. It requires a modified bootloader, so you can't just use it as-is. I'm sure that either they or someone equally as talented can get it going for us soon. I don't think the Prime and 300 are too different from each other.

Is it this easy to brick this phone?

Hi I have a hard bricked Samsung s2 skyrocket. All I did was erase my data and cache. Then I flashed Clockwork Touch 5.8.1.3 and it worked fine. After that I installed the rooted & debloated stock UCLE5 with a safe replacement kernel on this page via recovery, it wouldn't start. I'll goto radio shack to get some resistor for a usb jig.
If anyone can help me that would be great.
well this suck... so the only way to fix this is via a jtag?

If it does not power on at all, then yes.
So should I pay a guy online or just buy the riff box. Its works with the SGH-I727.

I'm not sure about the riff box. But I think it's much cheaper to pay to have it done. It would probably be wiser to ask these questions in the skyrocket forum..
Moved here to correct Forum...Thank You
Jtag will cost you about $50. See mobiletechvideos.

You flashed a ROM for a different phone. That's a surefire way to gain an expensive paperweight. Next time, please make sure that the ROM you're flashing is for the correct phone. The S2 and S2 Skyrocket are not interchangeable.

Yup, this is your only option (assuming that your phone is out of the warranty period).

Lock Recovery and download mode!!!

What i have to do if i want to lock my phone's recovery and download mode?????
One of my friends found a Galaxy S, and when he tries to det in recovery and download he could not!!!! He tried everything but nothing!!!!!!
Is the phone hard-bricked?
If not, is he doing the procedure correctly?
Is this simply found or "found"?

Its not bricked.. He turned it onand it asked him for lock code.
He did not steal it because he found the owner and gave it back!!!
But I can't find out why he could not achieve R and D mode...

Maybe the owner reported it lost / stolen and the carrier locked it down, because recovery and download would allow a wipe and re-use by the finder.
Maybe he just wasn't doing it correctly. Those things can be pretty picky and easy to mess up. Not sure if you can really "lock down" a hardware function like that, but maybe.

Do you mean that he reported its imei and the carrier locked it down.????
My friend tried everything. He its not noon as he flashes ROMs to his i9100

Well im also not sure what a carrier's capabilities are as far as locking down a lost / stolen phone, but surely they have some method..And dont forget that the carrier's reps scan the imei at the store, or by putting in a sim, it detects the imei, so they have it. Perhaps they can send some kind of temp kill via sim?..
