Desktop file explorer - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hey guys ima try to ask this question best I can lol. I'm looking for some sort of file explorer for a computer. I.E, something equivalent to ES file explorer or solid explorer for mobile...
Thing is, I'm looking to edit scripts and apks on my computer, main reason being to change permissions before I add them to a rom and zip it up.
Ive added certain elements to a rom, and although it showed in system apps it would either force close consistently or just not work at all... Anyone have any ideas to help me out? Thanks!

As long as your device is rooted, 4shared is pretty fantastic

HTC Sense and HTC Widgets !!!!!!!!!!!!

I had an old HTC Droid Eris lying around so I used root explorer and transferee all HTC sense and HTC widgets over to my SD card that I am using on my SGS4G. When I finished and opened up astro file manager and tried to download the files it would say Application not installed. Is this because of the screen resolution difference or because of the different hardware? Any help to get this project working would be fantastic!

i mean...they are COMPLETELY different phones. different manufacturers and isnt the eris running on 1.6? it would have been great if it worked...but what were the chances? lol. this topic has been discussed, though. from what i saw, it cant be done by just taking them and replacing what we have. you can get third party apps, though. like beautiful widgets for the clock
2.2 froyo. But yea, I just thought it was worth a go. I have beautiful widgets but the original would kick
ass. Hahah thanks bro

For sure. no harm in trying!

Why not just use Launcher Pro Plus widgets? Much better than the Sense one as it doesn't have to refresh and reload every time.

It's both the things underlined.
And I'd personally love to have Sense running on my phone, but porting it is both practically impossible (according to many many developers), and not worth the time.
Even hardware-wise, porting a Sense ROM probably wouldn't be possible because of the sheer size of it (from what I know).

Stock ICS Launcher + Messaging App [APK]

This is just the Stock Launcher + Messaging apks. Taken straight off my Galaxy Nexus.
- Before you begin, Make sure that Unknown Sources is checked in Settings > Security. And make sure you have ES File Explorer downloaded.
How to install the launcher:
1. Download the launcher (at the bottom of the post)
2. Open it in ES File Explorer and go through the installation process.
3. Press the home button and it should ask you if you want to use HTC Sense or the Launcher, choose launcher. If you like it you can make it your default one.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to install the Stock ICS Messaging App:
- YOU HAVE TO BE ROOTED TO DO THIS!
1. Download the Mms.apk (at the bottom of the post) Then in ES File Explorer, rename it to Message+CRC_1.apk
2. Go to system/app/ and rename the ORIGINAL Message+CRC_1.apk to Message+CRC_1.apk.bak (this is incase the Stock ICS one messes up)
3. Move the Stock ICS Messaging App that you downloaded and renamed to Message+CRC_1.apk to system/app/
4. Go to your app drawer and open up Messaging and test it out!
Any questions just ask.
Thanks but using the launcher I can not add Widgets to home screen causes fc

If you want tested final products then you should click the check for updates button in your settings menu. This is the XDA, it's well known to back your apps up and be prepared to have to restore when trying new things.
For the record, if you must get rid of the sense launcher (i love it) just download nova or apex launchers from the market. They ran super smooth on my galaxy note.

Thanks. The reason I asked here also was because they didn't show up for this one either.
I have installed this app on the 6/2 CleanRom but for whatever reason, I cannot send a picture message. It loads it, says "converting to mms" and it sticks until I hit send. Then the picture and the message below it disappear into oblivion. Any ideas?

[Q] Looking for custom MMS app

Hey guys I am currently using Clean Rom 3.0 and looking for a better MMS app for my Galaxy S 3. I heard of custom mms apps that have quick reply in them and curious if anyone knows where I can find one. Thanks.

Really?? Do you know how to use the market at all? How to search and download apps? Or did you just want someone to spoonfeed you?
Here comes the airplane, weeeooww(airplane noise), open up! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jb.gosms
That's probably going to be your best free solution. Has quick reply and a ton of theming. Another choice might be handcent, tho I don't remember being impressed with it on my Droid X.
Sorry if I sound like a jerk, I just see a TON of people not use the search option on here at all or even the market.
Brian Gove...wow lol but I understand your energetic response.

You may be unfamiliar with Android but usually there is an app in the Play Store that can do whatever you want whereas in iOS that may not always be the case. Need a new gallery app? Search the Play Store. Need a file manager? Search the Play Store. Need a calendar app? Search the Play Store. You should get my point now.

Handcent is the best hands down IMHO
I would agree with Handcent unless you use group messaging, then your going to want GoSMS. I wish SOMEONE would release a non bloated app with group messaging that does not suck
I guess I should have given more details to my question, yes thanks for the replies and no I dont need to be spoon fed lol I have used all of those sms apps but I was wondering if anyone knew of a a custom mms app like the stock one that had quick reply built in. I remember seeing something about one but dont remember. Thanks anyways guys.

Sorry for earlier, I was at the library dealing with retards. You're looking for a mod then? Like CM10's mod to the messaging?

CM10 is pretty good, I'd still be running it now but I was having issues with battery life. I'd lose about 15-17% or so overnight with my phone in deep sleep. I'm on AOKP now and stop far it's better on my batt with the majority of the same features, more even. It does have the sms mod too.
Paranoid Android has the same features too, as do the majority of AOSP roms. I personally like PA and Liquid Smooth, and on my phone PA is the more stable of the 2. I for some reason just didn't like CM10, even though that's what PA and Liquid are based off of..... anyway, the jist of it is you ought to just test em all out, cause what's stable for one person may be extremely unstable for another.

You can try a AOSP mms apk that will work fine on a touchwiz setup, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1921429 Ive ran it before, works fine.

Turns or I was wrong, AOKP doesn't have the popup, but neither does this one. It did give me an idea to which seemed to work for me. I just extracted the mms.apk file from a CM10 nightly and installed it.
I'll Dropbox it in a minute since Tapatalk doesn't let you attach anything except pictures.
Use a root browser and find system/apps/mms.apk (or secmms.apk if you're on TW) and rename it with a .bak on the end. Put the new file in the same place and make sure it's got the she permissions. Reboot and you should be golden.

Wow thanks so much for the help this is indeed exactly what I was looking for!

I installed it but is keeps saying messaging has stopped will I keep the name Mms or change it to SecMms.apk which is what my original was named also what was the she permissions you were talking about thanks?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
You will re-name it to whatever was originally in that folder. I believe all AOSP ROMs it is called Mms.apk and Touchwiz is SecMms.apk.
Far as the permissions, which it sounds like what might be causing your problem, depending on the root browser you are using(I use the one in ROM Toolbox) the format of the permissions you will want it to have are either "rw-r--r--" or "read" for 'Owner', 'Group' and 'Others' then "write" for 'Owner' only and "execute" for none. Or the final format would be 0644
Those are the three different ways that permissions are displayed.
---------- Post added at 02:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:50 PM ----------
I was just thinking, if the whole permissions thing is still confusing after my last post there, I might have thought of something that will do it for you fairly simply.
Replace the apk file as mentioned. Reboot. Then reboot again, into recovery tho. Then go to advanced and click on fix permissions.
A) Not sure 100% if this will work, B) the two reboots may be unnecessary, you may be able to replace and reboot directly into recovery and have it work.
Thanks man ill give it a shot.

Sounds like paranoid should have it.
What ROM are you trying this on? What file browser are you using? And what steps exactly are you taking that's giving you the errors?
I am using cleanrom 3.0 and esfile as my file manager. I first add. Bak to the original SecMms.apk. Apk and then add the file you gave me and renamed it to SecMms.apk and reboot, the permissions are the same as my original message app. Once the phone boots back up it will get to the loading conversations screen then it tells me that is has stopped working or something like that I am lost and thanks for the help.

Installed fine on mine.
Took me about 10 minutes to realize I didn't want to use it, but it installed and ran fine.
Having this exact same problem on my HOX aswell.
Might I ask what region you're trying to install from? (UK, US, etc?)
And also which region the last poser successfully installed from?
EDIT : It turns out it is only vailable in the US for now, but as a UK user like myself you can actually use the app by downloading it's .APK directly from this site : www (dot) androidpolice.com/2013/04/12/facebook-home-starts-showing-up-on-the-play-store-available-for-select-devices/
It seems to be working fine atm.
I can download and install the app, but Home says that my device is unsupported
I'm using CM 10.1, so that might be related to why it thinks I don't have a One X. Any ideas?

Thanks! It worked =)
I was trying from Mexico (My HOXL is the AT&T version, though)
Running CM 10.1 also and I would imagine thats why it isn't supported. Maybe on a sense based ROM out there it would work.
From what I've seen, it apparently does some checks (build.prop maybe) to ensure it's on an officially supported device. AOSP roms likely interfere with that.
I'm on stock rooted and can't even find it on the store. I have the new play store, so I don't know.

Epically horrible!!!!!! I'm a little surprised how its being received by some as a phenomenal launcher. The reviews in the playstore say it all, though I am glad to see Facebook embracing the Android platform. Too many steps to get to your apps, for me it seems counter productive.

I experimented with it a little yesterday and it really does take away a lot of the android feel -- No Widgets or anything its all Facebook. I do like chat-heads I think thats pretty awesome but you can get that with just Messenger so I just stuck with that. I was a little concerned about my privacy with facebook integrating my SMS as well. Call me paranoid but Facebook has been iffy about their privacy policies in the past...then again, I guess many of the web-based services I use aren't known well for protecting user privacy. In any event, I do think the launcher is smooth and is actually a cool concept, but complete removal of the widgets is what got me.

So this is best for Facebook heavy users, not android. You might just want to stick with the app. Question, can you revert on the flip? Like an on/off switch
