[Resolved] (Q) keeping stock filesystem - General Questions and Answers

I probably have a common question, but for the like of me im stumped
actually its a few questions
The questins are if you deodex a apk do you need to sign the apk
If so will a custom sign work, and if u modify the apk does it need to be signed.
And last but not least if u reodex the apk after modifying the apk does it need to me signed?
I thank you for your time

Kernal extraction, resigning, and one other question

1. How do I sign a .zip so I can flash it?
2. How do I remove a kernal from a rom to be used in another?
3. How do I remove a theme from a rom to be ued in another?
Sorry, I just don't know much about what files go where and such.
Thanks everyone

You simply don't need to sign the zip for it to flash with clockwork, its a completly unnecessary process with clockwork.
Extracting a kernal is easy just ope the rom you want the kernaal from or kernal zip and find the folder called something like kernal_update.
If you want to extract a theme it could be simple or hard depending on the theme, the most basic thme will theme 3 files in /system/framework, being twframework-res.apk, framework-res.apk and services.jar. just pull those and replace them in any other /system/framework folder.
If you are looking to build your own rom and are going to use somebody else's work then ask them first or at least give them credit, okay?

Thank you, I haven't been able to get hardly any info on this, I'm not building, I just like the theme and kernal from other roms but there's one rom I like to stick with. I can't stand people who use others work and claim it as their own. This nfo is to customize something strictly for myself

Ok I switched those files out, I got the notification bar I wanted, but in the theme I had, when I pressed an input box or anything else, the color around it was green instead of blue, how do i change those bars to be green and the color around anything I select to be green?

[MOD] ICS Transition Animations

Hey guys, I'm trying to port over the ICS transition animations over to the CM nightlies via this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342117
I did everything to a T numerous times and every time I push the newly modified framework-res.apk into my system/framework via Root Explorer I'm always hit with FC's and when I reboot I get hit with bootloops.
Anyways I was wondering if anyone else can see how to get this working on the G2x, any help would be great!
just wandering isnt the framework for cm7 different from the framework for ics so that may be the problem. just my thoughts.
You are aware that this is done in the computer, not inside the rom, you have to do this with the zipped rom, and then flash it.

Yes I took the framework, decompiled it, replaced the old animations with the ICS ones. Then I recompiled it, signed it, and then tried to push it into my system and get loops every time. What I'm doing should be working but its not. So was wondering if someone who knows more about this could see why its not working.

im getting boot loop also in cm7 rc1.. i made sure i signed the apk and everything..

Yeah... That's what I'm stuck on. I don't get what we're doing wrong.
Not that it will likely help much, but it is not required to sign system apks. Furthermore, are you making any XML edits? If so did you make sure to remove the edited files and the resources file?

Thanks for the response! Yes, I edited the XML and added two lines. And I deleted the resource.arsc file as well. You think you can give it a shot and see if you can get it to work?
I hope anyone else can chime in this. I'm eager to get this working.

There are way cooler transitions than ics don't waste your time

System files should never be resigned after editing them. That is why APK Manager asks you if it is a system file. It doesn't sign it. Just compile it and then zip align it. Don't sign it and try it again. Also when I recompile system files I never say Yes to the last question about copying everything over to the keep folder. I just recompile from the files in my project folder and I never have problems.
I think the ea asiest way of doing this is deleting the anim folder in the framework-res.apk and drag/drop ics anim folder into that apk. It might ask you if you want to add, just click yes. And then just push the new modded framework-res to your phone with adb. That's what I did from cm6 to cm7. It might be different with ICS....its worth a shot. Hope this helps.

What's with all the interest in porting these animations anyway? They are nothing special.

It's the lure of something new ... there are a couple of places the effect is nice. It also matches well with CRT-OFF.
if someone gets this working please upload your framework file here so i can download it

You have to tell people what rom you are using. The framework files are not the same between the different roms. You just can't use a modified framework meant for another rom.
i have miui 11/18 but ill switch to cm7 if you can get it working on that
I GOT IT !!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342117&page=14
find the patcher by DaxElectro and download it , it works with miui and cm7 , once you make the 2 zips go into recovery mode and go to mounts and storage than mount system than flash the patch zip and enjoy ics transitions , i tested it with miui and it works

gallery apk

would someone mind posting their gallery apk for me please. i did a boo boo. thanks
Stock ICS/GB, Custom ROM, etc? Also, you can find it inside the flashable .zip of the ROM you have flashed. Look in /system/app. You may also need an .odex file along with it if you broke that too.
I'm running oICSv43. I looked in the rom using root explorer and couldn't find it. that was the first thing I tried. I"m not a total noob but dont know what i did to lose it. I wanted to ask for it here before reflashing.

Can this Harbb be applied if I want the GB camera or let's say phone app from GB to ICS ? and what if I rename the .apk file to another name so I would not loose the origianl ICS app ? name the .odex file with the same new name but .odex ?
I don't know enough about Smali or Android's app system to say. However I'm a firm believe in "there's one way to find out"
Just do a backup beforehand and try it out.

I sucessfully did everything right but it forecloses on me.

Make sure the apk is compiled and signed properly first off, I had an issue similar to yours. Also make sure there are no clashing files such as the original Rosie and framework files. No missing files within the Rosie or framework is necessary. I hope you saved all original files in a safe place?

Yes ues i did and i might flash ota update rom with root and everything and try to see if it works or restart the whole thing again which was a pain in the ass to do
Going through every xml file to change it so it can run without replacing the stock rosie.apk and should i just go theme something else i might become a themer i like changing stuff up.

is this a flashable? also, you cant just name the rosie.apk "awesomeness", just doesnt work that way, it must remain rosie.apkfor it to work properly.

Yeah I went through every XML file in the Rosie apk because apktool said there was a problem is Rosie.apk/example/example.XML
And it took awhile because I didn't search for com.HTC.launcher.

Rom with spell checker?

I just got this phone yesterday to discover that the stock rom (rooted) doesn't have the red line show up under a misspelled word. I had this on my evo 4g running cm9 or 10.
Does anyone know of a rom, or roms, that would have this feature.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Or would anyone know of a way to add this feature to the stock ics rom?
Thanks,

I installed LantinIME.apk from a rom I extracted for the evo. The keyboard worked but still no spell checker. Did you happen to notice if any of the roms you've flashed had this feature, preferably an ICS rom?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I also think this is a keyboard feature. Try installing one of the different keyboards from the play store.
I'm using swift 3, no red lines on touchwiz, however my galaxy player 5.0 running cm9 w/swift 3 has it (did not on touchwiz). I assume this is a rom feature.

I have been trying to ilfigure this out for a while. I haven't been able to get it to work with any of the roms. Someone said CM10 might do it but haven't tried.
Edit:
This is a better start: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832126 the changes could be diffed from the stock rom
OR

Would you happen to know if that would work with the stock rom (rooted) for Verizon?
I just got the phone and even though I've been doing a ton of reading, I'm still a noob when it comes to the s3. And the last thing I want to do is mess anything up. Atlest with the evo 4g I didn't have to worry about different carriers and what not.
Thanks,

The changes made should work. So basically if you compared the changes of this to their stock rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1825272 and then applied the same changes to our stock rom, it would work. BUT their files as is will not work.
Basically, it would probably take about 15 minutes for someone to do if they knew what they were doing. I however don't have 15 minutes to spend on this so I can't help right now lol.

so what I would do is download their stock deodex and extract the files that are included in the mod.
Then, decompile the .jars and apks that were modded and the stock version
Run winmerge on them to see exactly what they changed
Then make those exact changes to our stock deodex rom. So you will need to decompile 3 sets of files and recompile 1 set.

I got apktool installed and decompiled framework.jar where it creates a folder called smali. The problem is, I can't view any of the contents from within it. If I go to properties it states contents "nothing" yet shows free space as being 66.7 GB. So I know that there's something in there, I'm just not allowed to view the contents. I read somewhere that you need a text editor?
I did all this on a Linux machine (Mint 13.) I'm gonna try it on a windows PC next just to see what happens.
Edit: I found out that by changing .jar to .apk and then decompiling it allowed me to view the contents. Now I'm sitting at trying to open the TextView.smali. lol
Edit 2: for some reason it's not working for the JellyWiz rom. It's still not showing the contents from within the samli folder.
