For my opinion is the best OS for a smartphone: Android free to mod, open source. Not iphone (too narrow), not windows whatelse, ugly tiles ...
I vote for WP. The most responsive of all because all grafics takes place in GPU.
I vote for android os you can thansfer files on pc even without itunes

+1 on Android for sure!
Windows is pretty horrible for phones and Iphone's are way too restrictive. Android is my vote.
Android is the best, but phone is very important to update android version. Some phones are new, but after 6 months they do not give a support for os.
Hmmm, good question. The iOS is a decent OS since it is all optimized but you do not have the freedom to modify it and all. The Android is a more tech-savvy OS. It has the most freedom to modify and customize with ROMs, launchers, etc.
Android, hands down... anybody that says IOS is a better OS has no idea what they're talking about... here, show the Isheep this, maybe it'll spark a light at the end of the tunnel for them... I myself had no idea ios was this bad until I read this article...

In terms of speed then the QNX (Micro kernel) platform from which BlackBerry 10 is built is unrivaled by Android or iOS6 (Monolithic Kernel). The closest architecture is Windows NT which is a hybrid platform. The drawback is the lack of applications on BB10 though the compatibility layer which allows Android apps to run may strengthen it's base and buy time for developers to develop more native apps.
There is more than one Os (Android) HAHA LOL..... Think Ubuntu phone is going to be dubbed the new king in the near future.....
The best OS can be seen via my avatar.
But truth be told the OS is yet to be created by Google.
I've only used android. There is a lot to like. WP8 seems to catch my eye and has some nice features but haven't used it.
Android all way easy to mod and change. Alot of good apps and easy to transfer files to or from the device without having to use a specific program.

Obviously Android is the best. It is open source and the best to mod. For all the common people the important thing is a great number of apps and you can only choose beetween Android and iOS, but Android devices are cheaper than an iPhone and they are more customizable.
Android hands down!

Android. Even if your phone doesn't get updatet officially there is still a chance of a nice custom mod.
I have to say, as a noob I am hughly suprised of the large variety of OSs for one device.

These days this two devices have the same ram, same processor speeds and in general similar specs.
Now WP7 has such a smoother feel than androids almost in every way. So that makes me think is OS wise and not hardware.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think Google will ever try to optimize their OS?

I would think as we hit 2.4, Android will be at it's best, if not, then 2.5?

The Android UI is not that optimized, i really hope they give the user experience some more love in 2.4...
Android has become the big cheese in operating systems, it will be harder for any other to compete in the same arena. What Apple and Windows will do is create their niche' market and bleed it for all they can get.

Maybe wait for HTC Sensation? It looks like a very nice phone with a updated version of Sense interface which is good and I'm sure it will be pretty.

good..................
Well, if anyone can compete with android I'd say its MS. Windows is still a pretty solid platform and they seem to realize that UI optimization sells phones. We'll see how it develops, I have nothing against WP7 as long as it evolves as an open platform for third party developers the way windows is.

Agreed, I really feel like WP7 is underrated, by the looks of it, it could easily be that solid 3rd behind iOS and Android.
Whats their API situation anyway? Is it managed code for everyone like android and java or do they let you go lower level for the win?
I Jailbroke My Brother iPhone and there is so many more apps on there and seems like there's alot more stuff on a iPhone then on a Rooted Android. They have somthing called Dreamboard theres a theme called Endroid and makes it look just like android i wish Android had All these Apps.

You can do more on Android. But they both have their negatives and positives. Don't listen to the guy under you. When you buy a phone its what the user wants. Android runs fine if you don't buy low budget devices. Battery life and performance is the is subjective on any device. By area you live and network your on. Nothing really works better than the each other. It's easier to make money for developers on ios than android. Because there are hardly any hardware differences on Apple so you will find more apps on Apple app store.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
If you like modify your phone buy something with Android but you must to be ready for this that your phone will not have an every update as in iPhone because on Android market there is a large fragmentation of different phones.
You just need to look..
I have a low budget Android Phone (LGE Optimus One) & my friend with his apple iPhone 4 feels like he wasted money on his apple..
You can customize Android to look like iOS, Windows7, MIUI and many other UI's like Lewa, HTC Sense etc. Even my 600Mhz processor runs ICS..
As for apps distribution, there are lol how can i count apps on Google Play store, and even apps that are incompatible for low end phones like mine get ARMv6 patched versions to download..
So if u spend the amount of money as for iPhone on Android, you can burn the apple..

You said lots of apps exist for jb iphone but only mentioned a theming app. That's not lots of apps, so not sure what you find is missing as even on a standard unrooted android you can do more theming etc than jb iphone.
Is there a specific app you find missing?

I watched, and didn't see anything that isn't available on Android either by default or with an app. Different keyboards, themes, panoramic camera, etc. are all available on Android without jailbreaking and using an alternative market.
Personally, I switched to my Galaxy Nexus in December after four years of using an iPhone and never looked back. The only thing I miss is FaceTime, and there are alternatives for that anyway. If you have any desire at all to change things on your phone, Android is the way to go.
It depends
You asked if you can "do more" on one rather than the other. The answer is not simple, but it comes down to a matter of preference. My preference is Android - it gives me the freedom I want over my device.
Android equals pure freedom on your phone and total control over it

Android has soooo many options it's rediculous. An iphone is the same as my androids app drawer. =P
What you want is a Nokia man. The most robust phones in the world today
android has so many roms and apps, you can choose the fastest rom for yourself.
i owned an iphone before and then went to android OS i have never looked back and all my latest phones run android there is so much more i can do with my android than on my old iphone
Android Its ....
Android, its open source.. so many developers can build many application tha fit my need.. because its open, the price relativelly cheaper than iphone...
Iphone, it seted up in my mind, that device hardlly exclusive, with all aplication exclusive only for iphone user.. not open.. and more expensive..
i prefer android device.. i paid cheaper for most app on google play.. custom rom, custom kernel.. even though i only consume it..
There's no correct answer to this question. It's like asking, "Which is better... a sports car or a speed boat?" They're both great, but are you on a road or a lake?
The real question is which one suits you best and no-one can answer that but yourself.

Now, telling me, which one you can do MORE

Keep using it and just change it whenever Apple release a rev-up iOS, still more amazing
I don't know what is wrong with both android and ios fanboys they all like to spread bull crap about each others devices and give out misinformation. My JB iphone does everything my rooted android phone does. There are tons tons of apps in the cydia store that helps customize your home screen and do all kinds of stuff. What it really comes down to is app qaulity, because you can only do customization so long. Android is badly beat when it comes to amount of apps and the quality of them and that's for both official and non official (cydia apps) apps. I tell you both android and ios fanboys disgust me with the garbage they sprew about each others platform. Its great being part of both worlds and knowing the truth.

If jb iphone can do everything rooted android can where is ios version of app like tasker?
There is none, check any iphone forum and ask if you think I'm mistaken. Its not possible even on a jb iphone because of how ios works.
Again what about capturing your phones activities on video like screencast? Not possible even on jb so no its not being a fanboy to say jb iphone can do all an android can because thanks to ios limitations it really can't.

Hi Guys,
I use both Blackberry (z10) and Android (GS+) for my daily use. I have also a BB Playbook and Nexus 7. Don't get me wrong, I love my android apps and that's why I use it every day, but I also like to use them my BB.
It's very easy to convert android apps, repackage and submit them to AppWorld, why android devs don't do that? I mean, it's good for them, they can earn money and it requires very less time. Is this because most of them are not aware that BB has android runtime or don't they believe that there are many BB users?
Please do not write hateful speeches if you're speaking as a user (not developer) and I use BB because it's my choice. But I really like to use my favorite android apps. I heard BB has a very good dev support these days and I wonder why devs do not take of this advantage.
I know that many BB android apps are crap and I really want to see quality apps being ported to BB10 and Playbook. I personally convert them online and sideload them myself if it works on my device but if devs submit it on AppWorld themselves, I'd love to pay for quality apps and use them.
So, what do you think guys? What's holding android devs from repackaging their apps to BB10 or Playbook?
P.S. They're planning to upgrade Android runtime to Jelly Bean, it should increase app performances and quality, I guess. I just read an article about android apps on BB on zdnet and found it interesting.
Its because most don't develope for an OS they don't use. Add in that BB is not long for the world and there is almost no point. Not to mention android is easier as it open source.

I'm sorry maybe this is out of topic. But is there any chance you would let us know how to convert it?

I just bought the HTC Desire X, but I know nothing about Android. And I am wondering, is it good to start learning about Android operating system? Does it have future, or it is like wm, which will "die" in the future? What is your opinion?
And if I will decide to start learning Android, it is necessary to have linux (Ubuntu - Debian etc) on my desktop or I can work on windows 7 - 8?
Thank you.
Android is like herpes. It's for life!

WM never really hit the mainstream; mostly people who needed the functions of using the computer away from home, to check emails or are just plain geeky.
Android however, is in the hands of even the most technologically illiterate people, it has spread that much. There's a huge chance that android will last for the next few years, provided there is no new competition that takes over. It's going to take something huge to replace the OS that powers most of the world's handsets. Perhaps a revolutionary phone product or even more competition from alternative OSes.
Years ago, the same was thought about Symbian. People thought that it could last for a very long time, it seemed to be the ideal phone OS until the iPhone came by and changed how people used their phones. Now, despite a quick struggle in the touchscreen era with Symbian s60v5 and Symbian Belle, Symbian is pretty much dying.
I hope in fact I'm sure the android IS the future...
Developers keeps Android alive
Yes I think. It would be growing thanks to its open platform.
For the next 10 years or so
Cos it's based on Linux

I think Google will keep Android relevant for years into the future. Firefox and Ubuntu are trying to come up with open source mobile OS's as well but they will have a lot of catching up to do to get to where Android is now as far as market share and apps. WM died because Microsoft let it become outdated. It had basically the same UI for years and didn't adapt in time to newer hardware like capacitive screens, plus it was terribly insecure. Some people complain about android, but its very secure compared to WM where any app basically had admin (the windows equivalent of superuser) privileges.

That's a very subjective, infinitely discussed topic youve got there I dare say they have strengths and weaknesses. Aesthetically iOS is better and is much better vetted, but then a little dull sometimes. Windows is lovely looking as far as I can see, but seems to have very little backing (the best apps barely seem to reach it). Android is IMO good as long as the user understands for a smart device to be excellent, 'customisability' should not outweigh design. Often simple is better.
Android is the best!!! But iOS run smoothness on idevices bc they are optimized for a few devices.
That my opinion; If u want modify all and get all potential of the phone go android, if u dont want worry about anything go iOS
iOS - very good
