Protecting my Nexus 4 in a tough industrial workplace? - Nexus 4 Accessories

Since I work in an aluminum cutting facility, and I listen to audiobooks all day on my phone, I wanted to get some serious protection for my new Nexus 4. I've had phones annihilated by this environment before so I'm not taking any chances.
I decided on a two-part solution and ordered XGear's Fantom 4 tempered glass screen, and a Ballistic SG Series case. The Ballistic is sold out in black on their own web site, but I found one on ebay (at a discount, too) .
I'll post some impressions after the gear gets here next week so other people in tough work environments with questions can share notes.

XGear Fantom 4 Tempered Glass Screen Protector For LG Nexus 4
http://www.xgearlive.com/products/android/lg/fantom-4

Keep us updated about each product. I work in a refinery as a Teamster so I'm primarily interested in the tempered glass screen protector. I also keep my N4 in this leather pull tab pouch while at work. It just gives me the extra piece of mind in case I bump into anything or something bumps into me. BTW I got the note 2 sized leather pouch because it fits my N4 with any case including both types of bumpers and my heavy 2 layer protection cases just like the one u bought.

I bought the exact same one but for the gs3, and after a day, it's fitting the naked Nexus 4 perfectly.

Looks good I worry about things pressing against my pockets as I work as well. I'm a little concerned about the tempered glass interfering with the touch sensor, but if it doesn't it'll be a fantastic protector. I use a high quality wet applicator screen protector right now and it's pretty good but it's not as good at preventing marks from granulated hazards like aluminum shavings and the like.

I'm using a case optimised BSE. The leather pouch is perfect at absorbing shock and punishment. Its perfect for people who work on an industrial setting. Its not to bulky either.

I agree just not at work. For those who need extra protection in an industrial setting the pouch is perfect.

Keep all of us updated in general, if it does well in such a harsh environment, it would definitely benefit the end user in a normal environment.

The Ballistic case is exactly what I am seeking. My phone arrives next Thursday so I need the protection.
Unfortunately the EBAY Seller wants $31 shipping to Canada which is insanity.
Otherwise I'd buy the ballistic off of EBAY this second.
If anyone else finds this case please post.
Thanks,

Please do let us know if this combo works. I've ordered the Ballistic case. The Fantom 4 looks like a good solution in the absence of an Otterbox; do you know if the Fantom 4 will interfere with the Ballistic case?
Thanks!

No idea but it's so thin I rolled the dice. I'll keep everyone posted asap when the gear arrives.
It looks like the shipping date of the XGear Fantom screen protector has been pushed out to March 1st, so in the mean time I'll have to order a decent wet-application screen protector.

There is another thread about Clarivue's tempered glass. It's on sale for $29.99 at this moment, might be another glass option for you(ETA is Feb. 7)

Ugh I just saw that earlier today and it looks fine. But I've already committed to the xgear or I'd just jump ship. Hopefully we can get some comparisons going to see what works best and interferes with touch the least.

The ballistic case looks awesome I'm gonna order that as soon as possible, I just ordered the rearth slim to at least protect the back glass but I think the ballistic case will protect in the long run
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app

The ballistic case was shipped and will be here in a few days. My Skintomi full-body front and back protector will be here today or tomorrow. I have an email into XGear and Clarivue asking them both how their tempered glass screens fit the curved bezel of the Nexus 4.

Can anyone recommend a good case and screen protector?

I'm looking for a case and a screen protector for my One s.
the screen protector has to be durable and last,
and the case has to be hard, and not make the phone bulky.
I'm planning on using both at the same time.

You don't mind the top and bottom being exposed then the rock quicksand case or the nillkin super shield.
You want the top and bottom to be covered as well, then the diztronic matte TPU case.
I'm looking for a good cover as well. I just bought this phone and... I'm not going to buy a warranty so I want a good cover lol
I recommend this, Capdase Alumor Jacket, 2 in 1 excellent protection: Soft Jacket & metal outter casing Included screen protector, http://dx-box.com/capdase-alumor-jacket-screen-protector-for-htc-one-s-z520e.html

raybox959 that Capdase Alumor Jacket looks like a great way to go. Looks like its not that bulky and will protect pretty well, alothough the edges dont appear to be very raised... just a bit. Overall a great way to go. I have the Ballistic SG case and love it, it protects very very well.

I bought the D3O case for my One S. I dropped my phone on concrete from the second story balcony and the only thing wrong was the case had a dent on it. T-Mobile told me that it was designed to absorb shock. As for a screen protector, I couldn't say any of them. I personally do not use one.

Ballistic Smooth + cheap eBay screen protectors (I prefer matte)
here you go http://www.capdase.com/en/product5.php?cid=1&bid=5&mid=2961&pid=30214
i`m using it and it fits great on the phone.Also..comes with an included screen protector.Wich i didn`t use it.For screen i use a Momax antiglare screen proector.
Screen protector.
I use Krusell as screen protector. Amazing quality and transparency. Use it without problems for 5 months now. A bit expensive but it's worth in my opinion.
Using the t-mobile OEM D30 case on mine.
Got a black one from the t-mobile store on clearance, and a clear one from amazon.
In fact, aside from my workphones which have heavy duty otterboxes, i am going to start using these d30 cases on all my phones.
doesnt add a lot of bulk, and protects well.
As for screen protector, i pretty much grab whichever wet install i can find on amazon cheapest... zagg, armoursuit, ghost armor, whatever.
AW: Can anyone recommend a good case and screen protector?
As case I am using Otterbox Commuter case. It is not super slim but also not too bulky. It protects the phone really well. I don't know how often I dropped my phone now but thanks to Otterbox it is still in perfect shape.

I have the D30 case and screen protectors also bought from the tmobile store a couple of weeks ago when they were on sale. They may still be there since they've been clearanced. It was $14.99 on clearance and is so much better than the cheapo ebay case. It doesn't add a lot of bulk but feels safer. Also, unlike the HOS cases sold at Walmart, the Tmobile ones actually fit the HOS.
i also have the d30 clear case, really good case, feel really good on my hand and doesnt feel heavy , however i prefer the black snap on case from ebay better, just a personal preferences. if anyone want the d30 case, ill be more then likely to give it away for free, just pay for shipping

As for case, the best case is the one that came with the phone Out Of the Box
I've been using the Diztronic matte black flexible tpu case for a couple months now with no complaints. It keeps the phone pretty slim and provides enough of an opening for all ports and buttons. Some may not like that the matte back part does show a good amount of scuffs when viewed at the right angle but I don't mind. Highly recommended.

I ordered one yesterday because it's probably the best tpu case available at the moment.
I don't want some cheap tpu case that doesn't fit well and looks crappy. Even if it isn't the best looking case, I guarantee its better than anything available on the market right now for tpu cases.

Looking at iPhone 5 review, people seem to be complaining about the aluminum being scratched by the case.
Would that be due to a build-up of dirt inside the case?
I haven't received my Nexus 4 yet, but I really want to protect the delicate aluminum and glass backing, which is why I'm also putting a Skinomi full body guard on it as well as an S-line case.
Please give some feedback for this case when you get it because it looks like a really nice case overall :good:

Its just a build up of dirt and debris. That's why from time to time I always take my phone out of my case and clear out the dust and such inside the case. Solves that problem.

I was looking at the XtremeGuard, and it definitely was a great deal!
However, I decided to get the full body Skinomi off Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Skinomi-TechSkin-Protector-Protective-Lifetime/dp/B009W6C4FW/ref=pd_sim_cps_3
It was a little pricier, and it only came with one, but I figured that with the warranty I only really need one.
Additionally, it provided guards for the edges. It might be difficult to get them on just right, but protecting the chrome is really important to me!
Protecting the super nice back is important too.
I ordered one.

Went ahead and ordered. Really like the Diztronic TPU case for my HTC One S - it's made of high quality plastic and has a premium feel to it.
Here's a link to the Diztronic matte black case for the Optimus G: http://www.amazon.com/Diztronic-Flexible-Optimus-Sprint-Rogers/dp/B00A567462/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1354507077&sr=8-11&keywords=diztronic+tpu
Looks great - simple, clean, thin. I haven't actually seen the back of my phone since I first received it so I'm not too bothered with covering up the disco.
Just ordered mine successfully using the "XDA" coupon code as well.
I guess we'll see how it is. Everyone seems to like their cases for other phones.
Case material?
So I have never owned a TPU case, or anything other than hard plastic.
How "rubbery" is this guy? Would it be a pain taking it out of a pocket? Does it attract lint/etc?
I have the rearth case, but it's a little slick...

Otterbox commuter

I just received my Otterbox commuter case. It seems like a great case made very well. Worth the $42 which includes shipping and tax. It's a two piece case, thick rubber with a hard plastic exoskeleton and it comes with a screen protector. It fits nice and snug, all holes are in the right spot and it will protect that nice camera that sticks out of our phone. I work in a body shop and take my phone with me on my quad so I need something durable but I don't want anything too big. I feel this is the perfect case for me.

The Galaxy S3 case looked great but the buttons were nearly impossible to press with zero feedback. It was also very slippery. How are those items on this version?
The design looks like the buttons should work better.
The buttons work great. No problem. It feels great, slick enough to slide out of the pocket but not too slick to slide out of your hand
Edit: my fingers do hit the lip at the bottom pressing the home button and soft keys but it's not horrible. I prefer the protection nyself. You can still hit those buttons without any problems

IMHO the biggest flaw in the Defender for S4 is the cover for the USB charging port. It creates a bulge in the bottom of the surrounding rubber. The Commuter has hard plastic on the outside, I've always liked that better. The only Commuter case I did not like was for the Note2.
This case is even better than the one for the S3 which had ridiculously hard resistance on button actuation. There is more resistance than say a TPU case or Speck Candyshell, but it's not hateful. The finish on the plastic is also less boutique looking in that you aren't afraid of putting it down and getting it all scratched up and looking like a ragged shop broom in a week. That's my biggest gripe with the Candy Shell cases! Otherwise they are my second favorite.

Hit up the thanks button folks ! :highfive:
I've had the commuter for a week now and love it. I received my Mime screen protector today and have it installed, the commuter fits flawlessly around it.

Just got my White Commuter from Amazon. Was hoping to wait for one of the blue ones but I already managed to get a nice scratch on the side so I didn't want to risk it.
Case feels and looks good. Seems like it could take a pretty good drop without any trouble, and I really like the cover for the USB and headphone jack.

Review: Poetic Atmosphere Case

So i ordered this case on Saturday and received it today. It's made from a hardshell polycarbonate with soft rubberized surface. First off let me say that this case looks amazing, it's pretty thin and it has a decent sized lip for some protection against drops. Still I will be switching to my UAG case anytime I'm going to be drinking. I tested how the speaker sounded when place on its back and it does muffle the sound a bit. The cutouts are very precise so if you are going to be using any kind of headphones/chargers bigger than the Oem ones then this is not the case for you. Also, the power button seems to be a bit stiffer than previous cases I've used on my S4. Not too stiff where you have to press really hard but just a bit stiffer. Volumes are nice and easy to press. Overall very nice case and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a nice thin case with some decent protection. Now if you're going to be like me and turn into Mr. Fumbles when you're drinking then make sure you have a backup case for those times.
EDIT: Just received and installed the Iloome tempered glass screen protector. The phone still fits perfect on this case. Although I'm a little worried if this case will slowly peel off the glass as this case fits the phone pretty tight and it's a little hard to remove the phone from this case.
EDIT 2: Just an update, I decided to use this case today. Well i noticed it was kind of peeling off my Iloome tempered glass. I noticed two bubbles on the top of the screen and immediately took the case off, bubbles disappeared. Installed the case again and bubbles reappeared, seems as if these don't play too nice with tempered glass. And the iloome is one of the thinner ones (.26mm)

Just ordered one!
I've owned this same case for about a month now. I only got the S4 this week though. This case is amazing on it. I have the white GS4, I wanted a clear case with the white lining on it, but the cost is close to 2.5x as much as the tinted case with the grey lip. I chose the tinted case like the OP has. I give it a 9/10, although there is nothing I can complain about with it.
I got one too. I love it. So how is the glass screen protector holding up?

Pretty good, but I am constantly switching from the Poetic case, to my UAG case, to my Slim Armor case. So far no sign of it peeling off the tempered glass.

Poetic do an Atmosphere with a screen flap for the ip5, I'd like one of those for the s4.

USB Cutout
Is the USB cutout large enough for USB cables that are not stock Samsung (i.e. Palm Pre, HTC) I have those for my car and at work and I can't use them while the Neo Hybrid is on my device.

Nope, the cutout is exactly the same size as tbe the charger that came with the phone. So if yours are bigger than the stock it's not gonna fit.

I also just bought this case, and got it in the mail today. So far it seems like a pretty decent case, and I really like the look of it.
I also ordered one of the metal battery covers, and have it installed, with this case over it. The metal battery cover does add a bit of weight and a little more bulk, but this case fits perfect. One thing though, the USB cutout on the case got raised up slightly, so it is a really really tight fit to get the stock USB charger to plug in, but the case stretches just a bit and lets it go in just fine.
Here are a few pics I took earlier.
Does it of metal brush ? not clearly on the photo...
My mine gripe with this case is the clear/frosted look. It looks pretty bad on the blask mist, otherwise it was definitely worth it. You can find the same case for cheaper though. Luvvit, minisuit and boxwave all have it.
Any pics of the Poetic Atmosphere Clear/White case on a white Galaxy S4?

Possible best protective case for curved screen? And screen protector?

First time I am facing having to protect a curved screen so a good protective case will be a must fro me. From the Galaxy s7 edge forums I managed to see Speck Candyshell case had the higestest "edge" on the case and it kind of feels most secure to me because it appears to put the most distance from entire phone screen to anything it might hit. Or do othe people think differently? Which company do you think will make the best portective case?
Also, which company do you reckon wil make the best screen protector?
Rearth Ringke. A Korean company.
I unlocked your mum's bootloader.
Spigen, Always. Note 7 Cases are ready.
Ordered a bunch of VRS cases, tempered glass and regular screen protectors.
Otterbox defender series will offer the best protection of any case pre ordered mine as work in construction so need to protect my phone
They have tempered glass on ebay that's curved for this phone as well.

I went with a spigen case to start with gonna order few more things before the 19th

I usually go with Spigen but this one on Amazon caught my eye: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01I2E9PLK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 if it sucks I'll just get the Spigen version (That wasn't live when I jumped the gun on buying one last week).
I also am giving G-Color a shot with their 3D full coverage screen protector: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HE74V1U/ref=psdc_2407781011_t2_B01HEZ69XU because Skinomi doesn't have curved Tech Glass yet. Skinomi Tech Glass is my usual go-to, but I don't know about having a flat protector bump stopping before the screen edges.

We( myself, wife and two teenage daughters who break everything it seems) have been using with zero casualties I might add, the Supcase Unicorn Beetle cases for several years now. It's like a hard ish polycarbonate case but the entire outside edge has soft rubber over molded. Not expensive. I can't tell you how much those cases have saved me.
I too am looking for a curved tempered glass screen protector option. I skipped the "edge" option in the past models but can't anymore.
Just ordered the unicorn beetle pro for work and spigen neo hybrid crystal for home. The supcase has a built in screen protector to hopefully prevent scratches while at work. Since there aren't any good tempered glass out yet I'll go naked while not at work and hope the gg5 holds up.

The photo on Amazon says the UB Pro does not have a built in screen protector. I ordered mine today, too. Always went Otter, but they have taken too long to release the case in prior years. Need protection day one. Hope this one is similar quality. Now to find a tempered glass that doesn't sacrifice touch sensitivity...

Here is what I was going off of. Not sure. I even saw in the description of one seller that said built in. Guess we'll wait to see. Perhaps two models?
I guess we'll see in a couple days. Amazon said it will be here Sunday. So, I'll let you know.

I'm just going to get my Note 7 insured and use a standard gel/foil protector as I've spent too much on tempered glass protectors that don't fit even non cutved devices like the LG G5 and Microsoft 950xl.
