I have several apps not working for ICS (PyroIce 1.1.0) and. I'm wanting to figure out if it is bad installs or are others having problems with these apps and other apps as well. So I figured we can all help each other narrow down which are genuine compatibility issues with ICS from the app developer side as opposed to which are custom rom issues as opposed to which are installation (user specific) issues. Please contribute!! If this catches on I will maintain this thread so that those visiting it can add to it but will only have to look at this original post for the updated complete list.
Currently not running:
• Friendcaster Pro (installs but force closes when I attempt to log into facebook)
• Words With Friends (installs but has constant force closes)
• Shadowgun
If you are on ICS and successfully running an app on this list please post saying so. And if you did anything out of the ordinary to make it run please include that info.

The signature of this post lends to believe ICS is in play - maybe the issue?
Other people aren't having issues (noted in the thread) myself on my ROM and someone else on the stock ROM...
Trying to determine if ICS is the issue since it is not stable like our GB roms are. But there wasn't a clearinghouse type thread to determine rom vs user error/bad installation. That is what this is to determine since we may not have official ICS for a minute.

The only app I'm really having trouble running on my phone with ICS is the original freeware version of Pac-Man, and it's a graphics problem.
did you restore them as backups from other roms running gingerbread?
All of my app problems are on fresh installs from the Android market. I would suggest anyone with app problems on ICS do fresh installs as opposed to restores from titanium or other backup apps. That has fixed problems for me before.

I tried ICS and JB as well and I can confirm that, they have the same issue, I got a lot of prog which run and crash after a minuter. Never had this problems with GB.
No good at all.
Currently Crashing or not working:
Rainbow 6, HAWX, Fast 5, SPB TV, Shadowgun, TomTom.
Has anyone else experienced an extreme amount of lag with Swiftkey after upgrading to Ice Cream Sandwich. Swiftkey worked perfectly on Gingerbread, but after installing NexusMod UCLF6 4.0.4 Swiftkey is basically unusable; no settings have been changed and in fact I even updated to Swiftkey 3 afterwards but it still lags like crazy.
Anyone have a suggestion as to how to solve the tremendous amount of lag? Swiftkey is by far my favorite keyboard and I would love to continue using it...

Check to see how many apps you have running at startup.
Is it only swift that's laggy, are you having any freezing, is searching slow?

I haven't noticed any significant lag while searching; it's about the same as Gingerbread. Also I've tried it when there were no active apps and it still lags. I had a few freezes when I first flashed the ROM but I Fixed Permissions and haven't had a freeze yet (might be coincidence?).
The ICS keyboard is a bit laggy as well, just not nearly as much as Swiftkey. For the first 2 or so words Swiftkey/ICS Keyboard are fine, but as the sentence becomes longer it lags even more as it's trying to dictate what I'm typing. Again, this never happened in Gingerbread.
Working fine here,
Have you tried just uninstalling it and reinstalling it?
Heeter
I had the same problem. Everything was generally slower and laggy in an ICS rom. I switched from Seans SkyICS to the Cm9 nightlies and I'm running perfectly fine now.

I'm currently running NexusMod Beta2; maybe it'll be fixed in future iterations?
I haven't tried reflashing it. Would reflashing the same version actually help fix anything? I don't mind doing that as long as I don't have to spend another 4-5 hours setting everything up just how I like it again
I heard that if you freeze the other keyboards like swype and whatever else in titanium backup then it might fix the problem of lag

Also, Illnevertell, explain to me how it's user error when I still experience lag after I wipe everything through CWM (Dalvik, Cache, full wipe), install NexusMod ROM and the first thing I do after it boots (again nothing but the default apps installed) is install Swiftkey 3, go to the default messaging application and try typing. Thanks for your useful insight though.
Regardless I'm just going to live with it for a while until I install CM9.

Mine was good for a while but steadily started freezing up more often. Looking forward to the new effort.
I did roll back to 7/22 with the new gapps (7/26). Found the voice search feature was not working (it comes up and acts like it wants to work, but never returns results unless you type the question). Anyone else experience this? I changed back to the older gapps (7/15) and it's working again.
First thing I would do if any app acts weird or force closes would to go to settings.. Apps ..find the app.. and clear data. If that doesn't work uninstall then reinstall.
For freezing issues I set my background processes to 2 in dev options. I changed vm heap too. Doesn't completely fix problem but helps out alot for me at least. Settings reset to default after a reboot. I read about this in the Captivate forum I believe and applied it here. I think there having the same issues too with freezing.

I am running the 7/23 ROM with 7/26 GAPP. The longer I am using it the better and longer it is going with out freezing.
When it locks up now it feels like when Windows runs out RAM. It will get slow and choppy if I keep pushing it the phone will freeze. If I exit the app and not push the phone it goes back to normal. I went 5 hours with out a lock up today using about a dozen apps. After the reboot I have played 3 games so far and 3 other apps. No lock up. Exited the one game when I got choppy.

Clear and reinstall of both 7/22 ROM and 7/26 gapps took care of it. (** and once again stopped working... something about this combo... went back to 7/22 JB + 7/15 gapps ...and patiently waiting...)
Also I noticed my Beautiful Widgets were not staying on my home screen after each reboot. They just pushed an update and now it's staying.
So this tells me the Swiftkey keyboard problem (mentioned earlier and nobody responded I believe) will probably be alleviated when they push an update. I am sure a lot of apps are pending Jellybean fixes.
I would go back to trying the 7/23 ROM but as Scott said, ultimately the code is the problem, so usage habits only go so far. Not waking up from a screen off was too much for me to stay with though.
Running cm10 7/23 butter with jbgapps 7/26 background processes 2, VM heap 128. No GPS for me though. Maps opens search works.

Can anyone briefly confirm what's working and what's not? That tends to change based on build/gapps combo, but a brief change log/feature list here would enable Scott and all the other great devs stay focused on their more important things to worry about lol
I would flash it myself and do so if I had time to flash Gingerbread boot loaders. Thanks

In summary...
7/22 ROM + 7/15 gapps - Pretty stable, but definitely slower in all ways (missing Youtube).
7/22 ROM + 7/26 gapps - Voice search broken with this combination.
7/23 ROM + 7/26 gapps - Definitely faster in every way (background process 2 - must set again on boot). Still slows down/freezes for many (mostly with maps/web browsing). Personally experienced lock up after screen off on more than one occasion. No GPS.)
Hope that helps.

It has to b something with that combo bc I'm running 7/23 build with 7/26 Gapps and it works perfectly. Really quick at recognizing speech and bringing up the cards.
His summation of the different combos is accurate IMO. 7/23 with 7/26 definitely the best but does still have the occasional freeze. The snappiness of Google Now and that combo in general makes it worth the occasional freeze for me though.
Hoping that Scott's new build that he said is coming soon will have working Voice recognization with the 7/26 Gapps. I'm sure it will bc he seems like a pretty amazing dev from what I've seen.

The release with butter has a bug that freezes your phone, which is being worked on. The butter release was taken down because of this. The release date of the butter version was 7/23. Install the no-butter one that Scott just uploaded and the 7/15 gapps and you'll be good.
Any tricks for getting Play Music to see the MP3s on my SD card? (7/26 build)
Edit: apparently you have to wait a few hours. They're finally showing up this morning .

Every time there is a major software version release, I completely wipe my phone to factory defaults & wipe the cache partition.
That way you can at least rule out a "faulty" upgrade.
This phone really should not have any stutter or lag on JB...
Where is project butter in this upgrade?
Sent from my XT925 using xda app-developers app
My phone was generally wonky and had plenty of stutters after the JB OTA. I held off for a while but finally did a factory reset last week and it made a HUGE difference. I also use Apex rather than the stock launcher and froze a bunch of bloat.
Sent from my Razr HD Maxx
Stock launcher is worst launcher i have seen in a while. Circle widget and Side settings page is awesome ... but what the benefit if it lags as hell!.. JB update on this phone is a fail. Not sure how it helped us to get better performance.
Google now and the launcher are the main problem...generally speaking, most other programs and animations are *usually* OK. Every once in a while animations stutter for some unknown reason, but is not common. That being said, I don't really see the effects of project butter. Coming from a windows phone, this is not as smooth. I do still love my new phone for other reasons, though.
And if Google and Motorola can't push out an update without users having to factory reset, there is a problem. From a consumer standpoint, factory resets are a huge hassle and commitment of time...it shouldn't be necessary.
Sent from my A500 using xda app-developers app
I think the poster before me is correct about the stock launcher and Google Now. In addition to using the Apex launcher I have GNow disabled. I can feel the Project Butter after being stuck on Gingerbread on my old Thunderbolt then starting out with ICS on my Maxx HD.
As far as people having to factory reset after the JB OTA I don't think that's been the case for everyone. It made a big difference for me, but I agree that I should not have needed to do it at all.
Sent from my Razr HD Maxx
Guys, even after a hard reset, stuttering still present for me... Will at least RSD lite flashing help in getting my device to work as it should?

Update - flashed again, using RSD lite, and still stuttering... Will do it again, with another ROM. Any differences between 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 versions of JB?
RAZR HD via Tapatalk 2
This is very strange, mironiko - can you take a video to show us the stutters please? Interested to see on which actions it is stuttering the most.
Don't have a device to make the video... For instance, it stutters in Facebook, during usual scrolling, in Tapatalk, even in Gtalk or other system apps - animations are rather choppy, and I can't really see the Project Butter effect here...
Thinking of flashing Telstra ROM or some other, but don't know if it is gonna make things better... I don't see a reason for O2 Germany ROM not to work as good as the others, or even better, being 4.1.2.
May some app be causing that?
Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
Ah, I've read quite a few times that Google Currents on the Nexus 7 was causing stuttering if background sync is enabled - do you use this application?
No. Not even Google now. When it comes to Google apps, I only have Gmail, Gtalk, Search, Maps, Street view and Earth.
I really don't know what to do. I'll hate myself if I do a new flash (Telstra ROM, for instance) and a hard reset, and it doesn't help...

It is not due to specific apps, it is just apparently poor coding on Motorola behalf, which is a shame I otherwise love the phone.

Does it lag anywhere other than the homescreen? The stock launcher on my phone was super laggy.
All of that, when it is more noticeable is when I press the home button to get to the homescreen (it almost takes 10 seconds to show all aps) If I happen to be able to take a screenshot, I will post it here.
