Lag - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm on Android JB 4.1.2 on my RAZR HD and I have noticed a LOT of LAG, I was wondering, am I the only one with so much lagging on this version? I don't remember having so much lag on ICS.

all good here man, maybe a factory reset as last resort and see what happens, well yeah besides having to re install your apps

I guess I have no other choice, but fortunately I have all my apps backed up

Try clearing your app cache. Should run smoother.

I had the same issue.
Solved it by installing setCpu and changing governour.
Afterwards using Greenify and Autostarts to Freeze and Hibernate.
My Launcher is Nova Launcher Premium.
Last thing I did, was Installing LagFix Premium and everything was fine.
My Phone runs smooth and everythings fine.

Does this really worked for you? I reseted my phone but still hsve some lag in JB 4.1.2 and I only have used 1GB of the 8GB usable, so I don't understand, no App is causing the issue. I think this is the software, JB 4.2.2 run smoothly. But I'll try this steps, thanks man.

Does it lag anywhere other than the homescreen? The stock launcher on my phone was super laggy.

All of that, when it is more noticeable is when I press the home button to get to the homescreen (it almost takes 10 seconds to show all aps) If I happen to be able to take a screenshot, I will post it here.

I was able to get a screenshot and here it is. You can see the lag on the clock, temperature and battery widget

Wow. Try Nova or Apex launcher and see if you get that same lag.

I'll let you know how it goes

Ok, I tried Apex launcher and is fine, I really like it so far, but the circles widget is not compatible with 3rd party launchers

That's the worst part of the circle widget. I'd be awesome if someone could find out how to make it work with other launchers.

I remember reading another thread and there's a widget in the play store that is fully customizable into looking like the circles widget. I believe it's called uccw.
Make sure you reboot your phone every day or two, this solved a lot of my lag issues. Other launchers never helped me.

I reseted my phone completely, now downloaded Greenify and set some apps to hibernate, I now have more RAM and speed is good, not great, but good.
Sent from my XT925 using xda app-developers app

It's a stock JB? Overall speed and performance improved when I updated from ICS. Did you checked on your batt and cpu temp?

I already fixed it, I make a full reset using the stock rom build. Now its a lot more faster.

Is there any way someone can port touchwiz 4.0 from the T-Mobile galaxy s 2 to work with our kj6 roms? (Valahalla, octane v3, etc). I know about touchwiz 4.5 but its very unstable on my phone for some reason and its app sorting in the app drawer does not work. I love how smooth tw4 is compared to others like launcher pro and adw and I just think it looks soo much better. I appreciate it if anyone can help. I'm sure other memebers would like this as well. Thanks!

Heres the post that he got the zip from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158266
Follow the instructions and it will work.
Furthermore, I'm running Valhalla- it comes with this launcher, the modified touchwiz 4, on there. You do not need this for valhalla.

That's tw4.5 though..... it has made my phone reboot ever since froyo days. Whenever I do something ram intensive on that launcher, my phone reboots. I never experience that with others like launcher pro. And how the app drawer doesn't sort properly is a pain. Thanks for the help though..

Actually I made the cwm zip from an apk I found while googling for touch wiz 4.0 apk lol it worked so I thought it was worth posting. I've never used 4 or 4.5 and I got the wrong one, lol sorry for the confusion. It was mislabeled and I have no experience with the either of them. Sorry for getting confused guys ill try to find 4.0 tonight again lol

The 4.5 comes from the fact that it was a modified version of 4. This launcher automatically comes configured with the stay in ram feature selected- it's been awhile but I am sure that Launcherpro has that feature as well, but it is by default off. Try disabling that and see if it just fc's the launcher (thus resulting in a restart of the launcher) as opposed to your phone crashing. Thats really the only thing that would separate it from other launchers. You can turn the 3d effects off as well to help with the ram. I always make sure to kill passive processes- then again I do not use octane so I am not sure how it runs.
I never had problems with the app drawer. You can change the sorting preferences in the preferences menu of the launcher. It is by default on unrestricted, but you can change it to alphabetical.

I tried turning that off, launcher won't even open anymore so I had to reinstall it. Tried running it for a day but it just doesn't work on my phone which is currently running valahlla final. I have the app drawer set to alphabetical but it still doesn't sort properly. If I install a lot of new apps or delete a lot of apps, there are lots of blank spaces and the only way to get rid of the spaces is to manually move each app one by one which is really a big pain. I just want stock touchwiz 4. I hope someone can get it to work on this phone. After playing with my brother's galaxy s 2, none of the launchers on the market feel anywhere close to that smooth.

Yeah go launcher is pretty good. Still isn't as fast as launcher pro though. I really wish we had a stock touchwiz 4 launcher for this phone. Tw4.5 freezes too much and no other launcher out there really comes close to how fluid tw4 is. I've tried like every launcher in the market too.

Apex performance issue

I bought Apex Launcher because it does everything I want in a launcher but I'm finding sporadic poor performance.
the most noticeable one is when I press the home button sometimes it takes up to 20 seconds to "redraw" the icons on the home screen, and the only icons I have are the 5 in the dock. (no widgets either)
From what I seen about other people praising Apex they don't have similar issues, so does anyone have any idea why my install of the "pro" version is like that?
(otherwise stock ICS LPY with root Note N7000.)
same issue encounter previously ... moved to other ROM now...
compatible issue perhaps?

Why not try convert Apex to system app (using ROM Toolbox for example), it does make a different.

how to resolve this pb ?
I had the same problem (I flashed LPY twice using Mobile Odin Pro and did a factory reset in an attempt to solve the problem ) and it seems like TouchWiz launcher is in the way.
After I froze TouchWiz launcher using Titanium Backup, Apex works just fine.
@tw15tr:
I did that at the time and it didn't solve my problem so I unticked that option (and still is today)
thanks i go to test
To fix the lag issue just go to advanced settings and select "keep in memory"

Home screen lag in cm10

So far every build I have tried of cm10 has started to lag about an hour after every reboot. Only the launcher. This may be a well known issue but I was wondering if there is a fix ? Haven't seen much about it.

In the meanwhile, why not use the Nova launcher? It's pretty similiar to the SG3 one.

[Q] Does JellyBean feel *heavy* to anyone? Especially the notification bar?

Hey guys I have been on Knzo's Chocolate with Marmite for a while and while its certainly a great combo, JellyBean just *feels* heavy. Its not slow or anything but it just feels *heavy* you know? Also, the notification bar REALLY lags when I pull it down and its certainly not as fast as ICS. Is anybody experiencing the same problem? Or questions?
Thanks!
Nope

Really? Hmm I don't know I did a full wipe and everything! I mean its smooth but the notification lag really kills the experience :/
I haven't had any lag either.. Not notification bar..
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
I think the heaviness thing is true for the notification tray.. it must be the fact that its not transparent, and the text on top seems a little crowded to me. However, performance is as good as ever.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
It's not just you. It lags really bad on my phone too, whatever the ROM/Kernel combo.
It becomes a whole lot faster when I disable Google Now, however that kind of defeats the object of running JB instead of ICS.
I'm almost certain that it's a limitation of only having 512mb RAM.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
Oh.. No.. Mine is lighting responsive! I am using ts5 rom.. Which for me is better than others. Including codename..
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
Hmm whats the *ts5* rom? I've tried anything and everything and the notification bar just flat out lags. But everything else is very smooth so it makes going back to ICS kind of hard haha :/
my CM10 is fast and stable
I've tried cm10, aokp jb and slim bean, and while I found slim bean to be the best (by far, the only to not to freeze and reboot with 1.2ghz overclock) of these three, all three of them had the same problem with graphics intensive games (Dead Space, NOVA 3, Modern Combat 3) where they would lag like crazy and the controls would freeze. This NEVER happened with cm9. Games ran incredibly smooth with cm9. BUT...I was so impressed with how far and away better Slim Bean was than the others that I'm going to give Slim ICS a try when I have a chance to flash it.
Other than the graphic intensive games that lag, I think JB is great and loved Google Now, but I can live without it as the ICS roms are (I have found) just as smooth and more usable than the JB roms at this point.

oh sorry about that.. haha.. its actually called "JellyB-TSM 5" but I think around yesterday its already updated to version 6. You can check it out under the nexus s android development section.. For me it is fast.. but some other people might have different experience. So just create a nandroid backup.. and give that ROM a flash.. and see how it turns out.. any problem you can simply revert via nandroid.. hehe.. :good:

New phone, laggy...

Hi everyone, I just got the max HD and my complaint is that it feels very laggy Compared to my wife's s3. Thanks!
I'm running liquidsmooth and I really like it so far..... I ran PAC for a few days but it had quite a few f/c's and lockups. I should mention, I've only installed two roms... So Might not be much help..
I had a lot of lag issues with the stock 4.1.2 firmware then installed slimbean and haven't looked back.
Great ROM, very snappy.

Concur on slimbean. I haven't tried anyone else yet and in no rush actually. At some point I probably will just out of curiosity. Anyway slimbean is super nice and much more fluid than stock. I love the idea of the rom being lightweight, still no real sacrifices made. It is also officially supported and with weekly builds. I recommend real dark slim for totally pure black look.
I'm running off Liquid Smooth on my XT926 and it's really smooth and snappy but I'm experiencing problems such as certain apps not working, random reboots, and apps freezing and crashing as well.
Currently running AOKP_xt925_unofficial_2013-07-26 - very VERY stable, snappy and great options/customization
Imo Carbon and Liquid are the best, im on the 7-31 nightly (Liquid) and there is no lag and none of the reboot/freeze issues most of the previous nightlies had. Haven't had a single crash in 3 days
Sent from my XT926 using Tapatalk 2
I recommend to try out the very new CyanogenMod nightly you now can find on the official homepage. It is not the most feature filled room but I am amazed how smooth everything is. This is exactly how stock should ought to have been. So far no crashes or any problems what so ever. If you want more features I recommend something like slimbean but cm is a really good place to start. Cm has demonstrated to me for good that the hardware in RAZR HD is perfectly adequate, if there is any lack it is only because of software.
I noticed you guys have Slimbean. I highly recommend it. I got it running on both of my devices, and If I get this it'll be running Slimbean.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2288532
It's fast, sexy and it gets the job done.
I'm also back on slimbean again. There is no fault with CM. For some it will be the perfect alternative to stock. It's smooth and simple. Slimbean is perfect for me. It is also smoother than stock and in addition has a ton of customization options to play around with. I'm currently on the last beta or alpha (I'm not sure) that there is a link to in one of the last posts in the slim thread. Despite the status as experimental, it has been completely stabile since I flashed it. For me it took almost I year before I unlocked (fear of loosing warranty etc.) but I'm really happy to have done it now. It's almost like getting a new phone. I think razr HD development is thriving quite well now.
yep the official slimbean build 8 is now out. super easy to install and manage and i am an amateur.

Just take that ish back my friend and get a new one. I had no problems with mine. Use stability test on play to test processor my MFLOPS was 620. Let the test run for an hour or something. If its messing up post the errors on here. I ran it for an hour on LiquidSmooth with no probs.
