[Q] Xperia play-Help! - General Questions and Answers

I've read the entire section of the xda forum about upgrading my phone, Xperia play. Many useful posts about flashing kernel rom and root. I want to get a custom Kernel and Rom in order to overclock the phone but i am very scared of bricking my phone and i still have almost 2 years of guarranty. I really want to overclock my phone cuze it becomes annoyng when my phone lags alot. I don't want to try myself and do foolish things so i make this thread to get the help of experimented users . I already have rooted the phone(Superuser is there) and cwm recovery installed but those won't help me with the kernel. I've found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1854682 which is amazing but still it is not enough. I want to do it nice and clean so if someone can explain what to do step by step from the beginning . I want to install that rom and doomkernel. If this works i'll make a big donation to xda. So can someone help me please?

I guess i am not getting any answer tonight. Tommorrow is a new day, maybe I'll have more luck.

You need to root it, install CWM and flash a kernel that is for stock and has OC. dsb9938 has a good one that I ran at 1.2Ghz.

of course that the root wil be for the stock ROM.
The performance on stock is terrible, installing CM9 worked wonders for my Tab, no need to overclock.

Question about custom Rom

Hello Guys
I have a Samsung S5830i phone with Gingerbread.XXLI1. I have rooted the phone successfully. I want to installed RazerDroid Rom. The link is as follows :- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816611. It says that it can be installed from Stock Rom. Is XXLI1 Stock Rom???
Please advise.
Hello girish78,
as far as I know is this the latest Stock Firmware.
I'm new to this but if I'm not mistaken, it depends on the baseband version the rom is based on. Even though yours XXLI1 and its stock, i think there are many more with stock roms for your phone with different baseband versions. I think you should try to ask the developer of the rom to avoid any problems.
Sorry if this wasnt helpful.

Is your cwm fully working? Check if it can back up and restore, back up your rom then restore it. If it works then i think it will be ok to install the rom because you have a back up incase anything goes wrong. Remember, there are still risks involved. I went to the link and done some reading, theres no baseband info specified. Goodluck buddy:thumbup:

[Q] Best rom for O3D?

Hello. I would Like to know which is the best ROM for O3D. with good battery life , working camera,3D support and less bugs it have its better. I tried NovAndroid It was really fast but The battery discharged in 2-4 hours. Then I tried the CM 7 but it was even worse then NovAndroid and then CM 10 nightly which had too much bugs. Right now Im using JB 4.1.0 but camera doesnt work and what is worst is that if your phone lags just a little bit it freezes and after some seconds the LG logo appear forever until you take the battery out

well said sir.
Cm10 was that bad cause you didn't install wkpark's bootloader v1.25. If you want 3d you have to use ICS e.g. Xbsall's v8.

If i install the bootloader will it work better? The worst problem was that when phone freezed even when trying to play youtube video and I needed to take out battery 4 times a day because of freezes. And If I install all the things which are needed with ROM which would be better xbsall's rom or cm10 / or ThiaiZO3D? I will not act like I know these things I am total noob at this . And Can I brick my phone by changing bootloader or baseband?

I have installed Cyanogenmod on Multiple Devices not once has it ever bricked a device infact you're more likely to brick your device flashing official updates xbsall has a a guide to recover from a brick so its not even an issue. please do some more reading ics has root . it has recovery just not a Custom one (CWM/TWRP)thats why wkparks Bootloader exists.
IF you Ain't Devi'N Don't a Start A thread in Dev Section.
@Mod Close thread or move it to General.
actually the root doesn't work because you can't get into recovery.

Is there any guide to set up dualboot? and can I brick my phone with it and does It make phone slow ? I heard about xbsalls rom but it is saying that I first need to install different kernel but I dont know how to do that because my recovery doesnt have that option. And Which 4.1 or 4.2 would you recommend? I already used jb. but camera doesnt work and It would be really pain if I want to take a quick picture and I would need to reboot my phone for different rom with working camera. And If I install kernel will it be set on both of the roms? or I can set different for both of them?. btw Thanks for reply

I alreaady tried CM both 7.2 and 10 both didnt bricked my phone and I had CWM recovery working with them...and root too...
CyanogenMod works fine - 100%. The reason it get bricked is BECAUSE whoever installed it didn't even pay attention.
And regarding the CWMR in CM10 - it works. I used ADB-flashable version of OMAP4 BIOS (wkpark V1.25a bootloader), and flashed CWMR at the same time as an option.
P.S. I used SuperSU as original Superuser wasn't properly installed in the nightly distro of CM10. Nevertheless, root works fine.
P.S.S. The reason I bricked my LG Thrill 4G was because I was trying too hard.

Atrix 2 ROM questions

I'm wondering what is the benefit to using a custom ROM on the Atrix 2? I've been eyeballing the dirty unicorn ROM, but honestly the stock ROM seems to work well enough. With my kindle fire it was an obvious choice as I hated the stock ROM, but other than a few missing features the Atrix 2 seems just fine. What's you guys thoughts?

more options, less bloatware, runs faster, and more stable, actual suupport that you dont get from motorola.
along with a cleaner look, but thats all opinion.
Basically the same reason for all devices. Stock just sucks.

If you like stock ICS, but are considering a custom ROM then you should try NUMA.
It's still ICS, but it's a huge upgrade from the Motorola ICS, and because it is stock based it's the only custom ROM that has all the hardware features working. That said, since the breakthrough with Kexec, I have flashed every JB ROM here and they're all great in their own respects. My advice to you would be to try them all. You're sure to find one that suits your needs.

Couple of more questions, first up: what's Kexec? Next: if I flash a custom is it possible to go back stock? Last up: does flashing a ROM effect your unlock status? I would hate to lose that.

My knowledge of Kexec is limited but my understanding is that it is a way to load a custom kernel on top of the stock kernel. This is needed because the locked bootloader prevents us from simply overwriting the stock kernel.
Yes you can flash the FXZ via RSD lite to return to stock. You'll need to find the FXZ that is specific to you're phone ESPECIALLY if it is an AT&T branded phone. Just make sure you know your phone's model number and firmware version so you can find the correct FXZ.
No, flashing a ROM will not have any effect on your carrier unlock, and neither will flashing an FXZ.

Just did some looking at numa. Looks good on paper, I like Ics so I don't think I'll upgrade to jellybean anytime soon. So numa it is when I decide to flash. But it looks like I need to do my homework on flashing the Atrix 2. that locked bootloader seems to be a pain. I don't need a bricked device.
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app
Honestly if you follow flashing instructions in the op of rom threads, chances are very slim that you will brick. Soft brick, maybe, but those are easy to recover from. My rule of thumb, titanium backup everything before flashing a rom,

Just flashed numa and I'm very happy with it so far. It seems to be really stable so far, and allot of the extras are nice. Like the toggles in the notification bar. Thank you everyone for taking the time to answer my questions, it really helped.

If you can not answer these types of questions on your own then you have no business flashing anything as you will most likely get yourself in trouble. What you need to do is read, read, read, read, and read and learn the answers to these questions for yourself. All the information you need is readily available and easy to find you just have to look for it. Step by step instructions are listed in the op of every ROM so there is no need to repost them all here. The only short cuts with this phone almost always lead directly to bricked phones. Also, "best ROM" inquiries not allowed because the answers are subject to user experience and therefore varies from user to user. What is good for me may not be good for you.

You can only flash GB ROMs if your stock firmware is GB. If your stock firmware is ICS, you can flash any ICS or jb ROM. That's probably what your issue is. Just reflash your FXZ, root, install Boot Menu Manager and try one of the ICS or JB ROMs. Make sure you read the instructions thoroughly this time to avoid any more problems.

I doubt it. If you're on GB then you probably need this instead:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1606257
And if you are on GB, then you can only flash the ROMs that are meant for GB. They are kind of old, though, and no longer supported.

[Q][Xperia E] How to install recovery ?

I am using Sony Xperia E C1504 Single and facing problem flashing zips and need Recovery badly. I'm using 11.3.A.2.23 Stock Firmware.
I want to install Recovery. How to install Recovery do anyone know for 11.3.A.2.23.
just search forums
Sorry - 2.23 doesn't have a recovery. You need to do either of these:
1. Downgrade to firmware 0.47 use jjm34's stock recovery (slowest Android version in my experience, moderate customization)
2. Downgrade to ICS firmware 0.68 and install hsr0's recovery and/or XboosT ROM (fastest, least customization)
3. Install CM10 kernel and use the included recovery to flash CM10 (moderate performance, most customizable)
Pick one.
