Hey all,
So I have more than 1 Google account on my Galaxy S3 with Jelly Bean 4.1.1 on Verizon. I also have a Facebook account. This is a weird thing that happens, it never happened before. Please see if this happens on your phone. Under Contacts To Display-->Customized List, I make sure only the tick marks for specific groups under 1 Google account is checked off, ALL OTHER accounts and groups within accounts are not checked off. If I select Done, the contact list shows only those contacts. If I hit the Home button, and go back into Contacts, it's fine, however, if I hit the back arrow from that page to the home screen and go back into Contacts, it now shows all contacts, including the #Data #Payment, etc AND the groups I had not checked off to show. When I go into Contacts to Display, "All Contacts" is selected again. Why do my settings keep erasing? I'd like to be able to keep it on my customized settings at all times. I do not recall ICS nor Gingerbread doing this, is this an issue with JB? I have searched many forums, I see nothing about this anywhere.
**Appears to have been caused by Go Launcher. I uninstalled and testing, so far so good, customized settings stay, even after reboots**

Are your contacts synced to google, phone or tmobile?
Go into contacts > hit the menu button > display options
From there you can choose which contacts to display. I save all my contacts to google by default, so i disabled everything that isn't google from showing up. That happens because tmobile backs up your contacts. I wouldn't disable the contacts backup, it's better to have duplicates, but you can disable your phone from showing them.
Or you can join them.

I have an annoying bug with the gmail apk.
When I hit the "sync" button to look for new emails (I have autosync turned off) and I have a new mail, the app would show me "Inbox (1)" in the upper left corner, meaning there should be one new email. However, sometimes/often that one new email just won't appear in the emails list. I can see my old mails but the new one just isn't there, altough the (1) is displayed. When I go to my the "All mails" Category instead of the "inbox", I can see it, also when I look it up on the PC.
This happens sometimes more, sometimes less often (last time yesterday), and I have no Idea why so. Sometimes I would get for example 3 new mails, but only 2 are displayed
Anyone else with that problem?
me too facing this
You don't have to "sync" gmail as it uses push. So just check the "sync" option and emails should get pushed to your phone when they are received. Why did you turn that option off?
Sent from my brain
Do you refer to the "Auto-Sync" option under Accounts & sync? Because I cannot find a "Push" option anywhere...
If you mean that, I deactivated it because it sucks alot of energy as it refreshes all the time in order to fetch your mails. I'd rather just go into the app and check for new mails myself.
And the fact that sometimes I see the mails in my inbox and sometimes I don't (only the number in brackets appears in the upper left corner but no mail) tells me that this is indeed a bug.
How come only 2 people are having this?
That's not how PUSH works

That's not how PUSH works. Resources are NOT used, or used so little to be insignificant when you have GMail set up to Sync. Basically, as long as there are no messages, you will never get a notification, and your phone will not check mail. When a message is sent to you, ONLY THEN will your phone "do something" by displaying the fact that you have a message.
However, if you use HTC's mail function, that's another story. There you have to actually decide how often you want the app to check mail, or do it manually, as you are doing now. So, even if you get no mail, it will still check as often as you have it set up to do so. This uses far more resources.
Again, if you have GMail set up properly, just leave it alone. It will only "do something" when there is mail. Otherwise, nothing.

Thank you for the input, much appreciated. Guess I had the wrong Idea of how Push works. I know people kept saying that it eats battery life like crazy on the iphone back then.
So, is "Auto-Sync on" (Accounts & sync menu) = Push on?
Because I still can't find an entry that says push.
Finally, I still have that bug in gmail....
Anyone know how to stop this from happening? I've played around with the setting in my phone but can't find anyway to get rid of them. I really don't need to be scrolling through hundreds of random-ass G+ contacts to make a phone call lol
go into the People app, hit menu button then choose "contacts to display" or something like that and finally select only the contact sources you wish to see.
Done. Thanks.
Hello all,
Ok - this is really mind boggling and as such I decided to make an account and ask all you experts about it.
I used to have an HTC Thunderbold and with its very poor battery, I had set my 5 emails to synch manually. So, whenever I felt like it, I would just go to settings and click on sync all.
Yesterday I got my Galaxy S3. I rooted it right away, and then plugged in all my email accounts. 5 accounts - 3 gmail, 1 yahoo, and 1 private. I set them up all under the stock app, because I don't like the gmail app and I don't want to download any other apps. That's how I had them set up with my Thunderbolt too.
Now, with the Galaxy S3, the battery is better, so I have set it to check for new emails/sync every few minutes during peak hours and every hour during off-peak hours. But I am just wasting time here - let me just get to the problem:
If I go to Settings -> Email (under Accounts), then all my email accounts are there but the little "loading circles" are greyed out and they all say "Sync disabled". I have a screenshot that I wanted to post but as a new user I am not allowed. So, the button at the bottom of that screen that reads "Sync all" simply doesn't do anything. I click it and it stops loading in a split second.
If I click on each individual account out of that list, then the only option I have is to Sync or Delete the account. If I go to the settings of each email account, then I see that "Sync Email" is checked on all of them, and I have edited the sync schedule for each of them too.... So... how is it that they all say "Sync disabled"??
Moreover, and most importantly, how can I change it so that when I click on Sync all, ALL my email accounts are actually synced?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

. . . at the top of that Accounts & Sync screen is a "switch" to turn "on" or "off" the sync capability . . . should be toggled to a "green" colored ON. . .
Hello there! Here I am again feeling like the only one...
Since the update, none of my accounts sync - except the Verizon backup thing. Dropbox has the sync disabled and I can't enable it. Have looked in the app itself, under data usage, and under accounts, but the sync option is grayed out or not available. Email/Gmail say that they're enabled, but they don't auto sync.
And that new shortcut bar has caused a display issue with Internet and several other apps having a blue-tinted transparent "screen" which makes it difficult to read because it darkens the page.
I've done a lot of searching and fully expected to find a bunch of threads about this, but apparently, I'm using the wrong search terms or I'm the only one experiencing this.
Please help... I'm driving across country in three days and I really need to know my phone is working.

I think I can help you with at least some of your problems.
Your blue tint on your screen is probably due to power save mode being enabled. It's in settings, just make sure it's turned off.
For the auto sync feature, I think you don't have it enabled under accounts in settings. Go into settings again, look for accounts, click on Google, and make sure it's enabled. Click on the auto sync symbol, and make sure everything is checked that you want auto synced. To get Dropbox to auto sync, you have to manually add it it with the + sign in accounts.
This may not be exact, I haven't run a stock rom in a while, my layout may be different.
Thank you for trying to search first.

My Dropbox also displays the grayed out option in my son's since taking the update. I have however still been uploading my pictures. When I go into Dropbox and select the photos tab the second button from top left it will bring up all my uploaded photos.
