Are your contacts synced to google, phone or tmobile?
Go into contacts > hit the menu button > display options
From there you can choose which contacts to display. I save all my contacts to google by default, so i disabled everything that isn't google from showing up. That happens because tmobile backs up your contacts. I wouldn't disable the contacts backup, it's better to have duplicates, but you can disable your phone from showing them.
Or you can join them.

Has anyone noticed that when u go into contacts there is a history tab that saves every email, mms, sms & call sent or recieved by the phone. This is very annoying when u go to erase ur call & sms log as you also have to go into contacts and erase the history log also. Is there anyway to turn this off, is there a change in froyo?
Thanks in advance

Still has never worked for me... i've set it numerous times to just show calls, they all still show back up eventually. Don't know why the settings won't stay?
Thanks i'll try this and report back.

Yup does the same thing to me, thanks anyway.
How do you set contact pix? Whenever I try it brings up a weird list of contacts... I think associated with my gmail. And there is no way to do it from the contacts list
Phoenix has risen
All I do is go to the contacts, click on the contact I want to edit, press the menu button, then press edit. Once in the edit screen I just press the box with the plus and a silhouette of a person. From there just select and crop the pic and save. Hope this works for you.

I think I know whats going on. Im pretty sure your phone is showing you contacts that are on your sim card. When I selected to show sim card contacts thats all I see too. When I select to show contacts on the phone and gmail then it gives the contact picture option.
How can I set it so, in messaging, it shows a picture of myself instead of a grey box? I have myself in the box as a contact, with a picture set, but it hasn't appeared.
I did it on my hd2, but I don't remember how I did it..
If you have your Facebook info syncing, it should filter from that. If you do not, save your phone number into your contacts and then assign a pic for it. When you send a text, it will pull your pic from your contacts.
Oh..I should have specified...I"m running CM7 nightly 12. Facebook is synced and, like I said, I have myself as a contact with a picture associated with it and its still not pulling the picture
Hmm I had that problem with CM7 too. Go into Settings > Call Settings > Additional Settings > My phone number.
I think by default that is blank. Put in your number in the same format you have it saved in your contact list as.
If you have already done that, there's nothing else I got for ya. Hopefully someone else knows.

This has been discussed before so many times :O search=
Just to be clear when you add your phone number save the contact "Me" in Phone and not in Google and add avatar it will stick. For other device like Nexus you have to save # in SIM as "Me" and then apply photo.
I did search..tried messaging and contact icon and saw nothing related to the issue in the results.
Hello all,
Ok - this is really mind boggling and as such I decided to make an account and ask all you experts about it.
I used to have an HTC Thunderbold and with its very poor battery, I had set my 5 emails to synch manually. So, whenever I felt like it, I would just go to settings and click on sync all.
Yesterday I got my Galaxy S3. I rooted it right away, and then plugged in all my email accounts. 5 accounts - 3 gmail, 1 yahoo, and 1 private. I set them up all under the stock app, because I don't like the gmail app and I don't want to download any other apps. That's how I had them set up with my Thunderbolt too.
Now, with the Galaxy S3, the battery is better, so I have set it to check for new emails/sync every few minutes during peak hours and every hour during off-peak hours. But I am just wasting time here - let me just get to the problem:
If I go to Settings -> Email (under Accounts), then all my email accounts are there but the little "loading circles" are greyed out and they all say "Sync disabled". I have a screenshot that I wanted to post but as a new user I am not allowed. So, the button at the bottom of that screen that reads "Sync all" simply doesn't do anything. I click it and it stops loading in a split second.
If I click on each individual account out of that list, then the only option I have is to Sync or Delete the account. If I go to the settings of each email account, then I see that "Sync Email" is checked on all of them, and I have edited the sync schedule for each of them too.... So... how is it that they all say "Sync disabled"??
Moreover, and most importantly, how can I change it so that when I click on Sync all, ALL my email accounts are actually synced?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

. . . at the top of that Accounts & Sync screen is a "switch" to turn "on" or "off" the sync capability . . . should be toggled to a "green" colored ON. . .
Hey all,
So I have more than 1 Google account on my Galaxy S3 with Jelly Bean 4.1.1 on Verizon. I also have a Facebook account. This is a weird thing that happens, it never happened before. Please see if this happens on your phone. Under Contacts To Display-->Customized List, I make sure only the tick marks for specific groups under 1 Google account is checked off, ALL OTHER accounts and groups within accounts are not checked off. If I select Done, the contact list shows only those contacts. If I hit the Home button, and go back into Contacts, it's fine, however, if I hit the back arrow from that page to the home screen and go back into Contacts, it now shows all contacts, including the #Data #Payment, etc AND the groups I had not checked off to show. When I go into Contacts to Display, "All Contacts" is selected again. Why do my settings keep erasing? I'd like to be able to keep it on my customized settings at all times. I do not recall ICS nor Gingerbread doing this, is this an issue with JB? I have searched many forums, I see nothing about this anywhere.
**Appears to have been caused by Go Launcher. I uninstalled and testing, so far so good, customized settings stay, even after reboots**
